On a three-layer cast film line with a 2,500 mm slot die, 0.8 mm die gap, 180 mm air gap, and chill roll polished to 0.15 µm Ra, Versalis Clearflex VLDPE CQ D0 is incorporated into the outer cling layers at 70 wt% with 18 wt% hexene LLDPE and 12 wt% polyisobutylene tack concentrate. The core layer is a 100 wt% LLDPE with 3.0 g/10 min melt-flow rate to maintain dart impact. Extruder exit melt temperature is held at 238–242 °C, extruder back pressure at 240–260 bar, chill-roll inlet temperature at 18 °C, and line speed at 380 m/min. The resulting 23 µm machine stretch film exhibits transverse-direction elongation at break of 550% per ISO 527-3:2018, dart drop of 560 g per ASTM D1709-22 method B, and film-to-film coefficient of friction of 0.35 per ASTM D1894-21. Pre-stretch on powered wrapper is limited to 230% because higher elongation initiates localized necking when the CQ D0 fraction in cling layers exceeds 75 wt%. The film complies with EU 10/2011 for fatty and aqueous food contact where overall migration remains below 10 mg/dm² and with FDA 21 CFR 177.1520(c) 3.2 for the polyethylene component. End-product: pallet unitization film for beverage and consumer-goods distribution.
Heat-seal continuity is governed by seal initiation temperature, hot-tack plateau, and die-lip pressure stability. In a three-layer blown line with 200 mm die diameter, 1.8 mm die gap, blow-up ratio 2.4, frost-line height 520 mm, melt temperature 215 °C, and output 170 kg/h, the sealant layer is a 30 µm web of 100 wt% CQ D0 inside an 80 µm reverse-printed lamination. Seal strength measured per ASTM F88/F88M-23 on 25 mm specimens at 0.5 s dwell and 3 bar jaw pressure reaches 18 N/25 mm at 105 °C. Hot tack per ASTM F1921-18 remains above 2 N/25 mm from 92 °C to 118 °C. Below 88 °C seal continuity fails because chain diffusion across the seal interface is incomplete; above 122 °C edge thinning of the sealant reduces rupture resistance. Die-lip pressure is maintained between 210 bar and 230 bar; pressure excursions of ±10 bar generate thickness bands of ±2.5 µm, which shift seal failure from peel to tear on vertical form-fill-seal lines. The end-product is a stand-up pouch lamination for liquid condiments, where the sealant layer must pass EU 10/2011 Annex I and FDA 21 CFR 177.1520(c) 3.1/3.2.

A 20 µm monolayer film of 90 wt% CQ D0, 8 wt% glycerol monooleate anti-fog masterbatch, and 2 wt% silica anti-block/slip masterbatch is produced on a high-stalk blown line with 150 mm die, blow-up ratio 3.2, stalk height 6 die diameters, and frost-line at 340 mm. Melt temperature is 205 °C and die gap is 1.6 mm. Haze after anti-fog internal stabilisation is below 4% per ASTM D1003-21. Water vapour transmission rate at 23 °C and 85% RH for the 20 µm film is approximately 22 g/m²·d per ISO 15106-3, allowing moisture discharge from cut leafy produce after laser microperforation. The film is slit to 320 mm reels and converted on flow-wrapping machines equipped with electrostatic pinning. Maximum line speed is 70 m/min. Compliance is based on EU 10/2011; the anti-fog additive must be positive-listed in Annex I. Published data for this specific CQ D0 and additive formulation at 20 µm are limited; the WVTR value is representative of metallocene VLDPE in the 0.900–0.910 g/cm³ density band. End-product: flow-wrapped salad and herb packs with clear film optics and anti-fog performance.
Replacement of EVA in deep-chill packaging lamination is evaluated on a 90 mm barrier single-screw extruder with 32:1 L/D, 1,200 mm slot die, and 90 mm air gap. The CQ D0 fraction is fixed at 80 wt% with 20 wt% high-pressure LDPE to raise melt tension and suppress draw resonance. The blend is coextruded as a 25 µm seal layer against 12 µm aluminium foil and 38 µm BOPET, producing a flat lamination for frozen vegetable and seafood pouches. Seal strength after 1 s dwell at 115 °C is 15 N/25 mm per ASTM F88/F88M-23. After 72 h conditioning at −40 °C, the seal remains ductile under 50 flex cycles per ASTM F392/F392M-21, while peak elongation drops to 320% from 580% at 23 °C per ISO 527-3:2018. If CQ D0 is run at 100 wt%, extruder head pressure falls to 180 bar and web flutter increases below 30 µm; the 20 wt% LDPE addition is required for stable operation. Compliance for food contact is FDA 21 CFR 177.1520(c) 3.2 and EU 10/2011. End-product: 65 µm lamination for individually quick-frozen pouch stock.
Extrusion coating of a 25 µm seal layer onto 60 g/m² medical kraft paper with 12 µm BOPET interlayer is run on a 120 mm extruder with 30:1 L/D, 1,200 mm slot die, and 100 mm air gap. The CQ D0 is let down at 70 wt% with 30 wt% medical-grade LDPE to maintain neck-in below 40 mm and prevent draw resonance. Chill roll is polished to 0.12 µm Ra and held at 14 °C. The coated web is used as lidding for rigid PETG trays sealed at 130 °C and 0.8 s dwell. Seal strength to PETG is 8 N/25 mm per ASTM F88/F88M-23; after ethylene oxide sterilisation and 7 days at 50 °C, peel remains cohesive within the PE layer. The lidding is validated under ISO 11607-1:2019 for terminally sterilised medical device packaging; the polymer layer meets FDA 21 CFR 177.1520(c) 3.2 and cytocompatibility is verified on the final package under ISO 10993-5:2009 when direct or indirect patient contact is evaluated. End-product: peelable lidding for rigid medical device trays.
A 55 wt% CQ D0 blend with 25 wt% EVA (18% vinyl acetate) and 20 wt% hexene LLDPE is extruded through a four-circuit die of 250 mm diameter, blow-up ratio 3.8, frost-line height 700 mm, melt temperature 190 °C. The 60 µm film achieves elongation at break of 550% in machine and transverse directions per ISO 527-3:2018; elastic recovery after 50% strain is 78% transverse and 82% machine direction per ASTM D5459-21. The film is gusseted to 1,000 mm layflat and wound on automatic stretch-hood machines with 60 °C pre-stretch chambers. The principal failure mode in beverage palletization is transverse tear at gusset creases when film thickness drops below 45 µm or when CQ D0 content exceeds 65 wt%, which lowers dart impact to 420 g per ASTM D1709-22 method A. Compliance is REACH Annex XVII; no food-contact migration limit applies to the pallet hood as long as direct beverage contact is excluded. End-product: stretch hood film for appliance and beverage logistics.
