Application of Versalis Clearflex VLDPE CH G0

Cast film lines running at 450 m/min with three-layer feedblocks and 800-mm chill rolls have shown that Clearflex CH G0 at 25–35 wt% in the cling layer, 30–40 wt% in the core, and 5–15 wt% in the release layer suppresses melt fracture while retaining a low-density amorphous fraction that contributes surface tack and low-temperature adhesion. The grade has a nominal density of 0.900 g/cm³ (ISO 1183-1:2019) and a nominal melt flow rate of 0.8 g/10 min (ISO 1133-1:2022). Compliance for industrial pallet wrap is reviewed under REACH Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 and Directive 94/62/EC; where the film is coextruded with a food-contact layer for wrapped produce, the overall migration limit of 10 mg/dm² under EU Regulation 10/2011 applies to the finished film, not to the resin in isolation. The resin is fed without pre-drying at silo relative humidity below 60%, but at relative humidity above 75% hopper drying at 60°C for 2 h is specified to prevent microvoiding. On a three-layer cast coextrusion line with grooved-feed extruders of L/D 30, die width 3,200 mm, and die gap 0.8 mm, the die melt temperature is held between 195°C and 210°C; sustained operation above 225°C produces gel formation and die lip build-up after approximately 6 h. Die head temperature variation greater than ±5°C creates visible gauge bands on the finished roll. Chill roll temperature is maintained at 18–24°C, and post-industrial edge trim is recycled at up to 20 wt% without measurable viscosity shift. Film tensile properties are measured according to ISO 527-3, cling force according to ASTM D5458, and puncture resistance according to ASTM D5748. The end product is machine and hand applied industrial pallet wrap in thicknesses from 12 µm to 23 µm, typically used at 150–250% pre-stretch on power pre-stretch equipment.

Across silage baling lines where pre-stretch ratios exceed 65% and field temperatures drop below 5°C, Clearflex CH G0 is incorporated at 30–45 wt% with a C4 LLDPE or LDPE carrier and 6–8 wt% white masterbatch to maintain puncture resistance and cling after 12-month outdoor exposure. White masterbatch addition above 8 wt% is avoided because screw slippage occurs on single-screw extruders of L/D 25 when low melt pressure coincides with surface slip in the feed zone. The compliance reference is EN 14930:2007 for thermoplastic stretch films used to wrap bales of forage, supplemented by REACH Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006; no substances of very high concern are intentionally added above the 0.1 wt% reporting threshold. Blown film conversion on a three-layer spiral mandrel line with die diameter 400 mm, die gap 2.0 mm, and blow-up ratio 2.5–3.5 produces film of 25–40 µm, with melt temperature at the die head between 185°C and 200°C. Frost line height is controlled at 500–800 mm; when frost line height drops below 400 mm, the low-density amorphous fraction is quenched and dart impact measured by ISO 7765-2 falls below the harvest-season requirement. Pre-stretching applies 60–70% elongation before wrapping, and cling force under tension is verified according to ASTM D5458 against baler manufacturer minimums. End product types are 750-mm and 1,500-mm silage wrap rolls, haylage bale wrap, and round bale wrap for high-moisture forage storage.

What Limits Seal Initiation Temperature in Multilayer Barrier Structures?

To reach stable hot tack in a nine-layer barrier blown film, Clearflex CH G0 is included at 20–35 wt% with mLLDPE and polybutene-1, thereby reducing seal initiation temperature below 95°C and maintaining seal strength through fold areas. Polybutene-1 addition at 3–5 wt% lowers seal initiation further, but hot tack decay becomes measurable when dwell time exceeds 0.8 s. EU Regulation 10/2011 governs the total migration limit of 10 mg/dm² under OM2 conditions for fatty food simulants, and FDA 21 CFR 177.1520(c) covers olefin polymers for food contact applications; converters must verify the finished film against the end-test requirement because resin compliance alone does not guarantee final article compliance. The sealant film is produced on a seven-layer or nine-layer blown film line with a die diameter of 350–500 mm, die gap 1.8–2.2 mm, and blow-up ratio 2.0–2.8; the CH G0-containing sealant layer is positioned on the inside of the bubble to minimize heat loss and maintain hot tack during high-speed vertical form-fill-seal operations. Sealing occurs at 105–125°C jaw temperature and 0.3–0.6 s dwell time, with hot tack measured according to ASTM F1921. End products include vacuum pouches, modified atmosphere packaging lidding film, and frozen food bags, where low-temperature seal integrity is the critical failure boundary.

When Collation Shrink Force Must Stay Below 1.8 N per 25 mm

On double-bubble collation shrink lines, converters monitor TD orientation and low-density amorphous content to prevent thin-walled PET bottle crushing. The bound for PET panel deformation is typically 1.8 N/25 mm at 130°C; Clearflex CH G0 is added at 15–25 wt% to a LDPE/LLDPE blend in the outer layers of a three-layer shrink film to stay below that threshold while retaining shrink recovery. Compliance is assessed under Directive 94/62/EC and ISO 18602:2013; no specific food-contact migration testing is required unless the film contacts food directly, in which case EU Regulation 10/2011 applies. The heavy-wall blown tube is extruded at a die gap of 2.4–3.2 mm and melt temperature 190–210°C, then quenched and reheated to 110–125°C for biaxial orientation at MD/TD ratios between 1:4 and 1:6 using a double-bubble process. Above an MD/TD ratio of 1:6, gauge variation exceeds 5% on thin-walled bottle bundles. Free shrink is measured according to ASTM D2732; shrink force is determined on a 25-mm specimen at 130°C under ISO 14616. The final film thickness ranges from 45 µm to 75 µm, and end products include multi-pack collation wraps for bottled water, canned beverages, and household care bundles.

Flexible Geomembrane Welding Parameters and Resin Design

Because exposed geomembrane installations are welded at 350–420°C, the resin must retain thermal stability over long seam residence times while providing low-temperature layflat. Clearflex CH G0 is incorporated at 40–60 wt% in flat-die extruded sheet with an LLDPE or LDPE carrier to increase multiaxial strain and reduce stress cracking at fold lines. The performance specification is GRI-GM17 for LLDPE/VLDPE smooth geomembranes, supplemented by ISO 11963 for dimensional stability and ASTM D5885 for oxidative induction time; REACH Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 applies to all resin components and additive packages. Extrusion on a flat-die sheet line with L/D 33 and die width 5,000–7,000 mm produces 1.0–2.5 mm sheet at melt temperatures between 200°C and 230°C; calender roll temperatures are set at 70–90°C to prevent surface blocking. Calender roll temperatures above 90°C induce surface blocking on 1.0 mm sheet, while temperatures below 65°C produce stress whitening. Wedge welding and hot-air welding at 350–420°C with seam overlap 80–100 mm are used for installation; peel and shear tests according to ASTM D6392 verify weld strength before service. Published data for this exact grade in exposed geomembrane service is limited, so the addition range is derived from industrial sheet formulations using 0.900–0.905 g/cm³ VLDPE resins. The end product categories are flexible geomembrane liners, landfill cap and pond liner sheets, and tunnel waterproofing membrane layers.

Within FIBC liner conversion where sub-zero filling and discharge occur, a three-layer blown film structure containing 20–35 wt% Clearflex CH G0 in the inner ply is used to maintain low-temperature dart impact and flex-crack resistance. The line operates with a 250–350 mm die diameter, die gap 2.0–2.4 mm, blow-up ratio 2.5–3.2, and die head temperature 185–200°C; internal bubble cooling is typically required above 2.0 mm die gap to stabilize the low-melt-strength resin fraction. Compliance is anchored to ISO 21898:2004 for flexible intermediate bulk containers for non-dangerous goods, with the inner liner film checked for puncture resistance under ISO 6603-2, tensile properties under ISO 527-3, and flex crack resistance at -20°C under ASTM F392; if used for food-grade powder transport, EU Regulation 10/2011 and FDA 21 CFR 177.1520(c) apply. The finished liner thickness ranges from 80 µm to 200 µm, gusseted or tubular, and the end product types are FIBC liners, heavy-duty sack film, and dunnage airbag film, where flex crack resistance at -20°C is the governing performance limit.
