On multi-cavity tools producing exterior mirror housings and cowl grilles, DIALAC® AVR300 is metered at a melt-temperature set point between 235 °C and 250 °C. Hot-runner manifolds are held within ±5 °C because excursions above 255 °C produce gas-check defects on chemical-etched grain depths of 0.06–0.12 mm from low-molecular-weight styrene-acrylonitrile volatiles. Pre-drying is performed at 80 °C for 3–4 h in a desiccant dryer with dew point ≤ −30 °C; when plant relative humidity exceeds 60%, drying time is extended to 4 h and the hopper is blanketed with dried air. The injection press uses a screw L/D of 20:1–24:1, back pressure of 5–8 bar, injection speed profiled to keep melt-front shear rate below 1,500 s−1, and sequential valve gating to position weld lines outside grained appearance zones. Mold temperature is maintained at 60–80 °C to avoid cold-flow marks and to replicate grain texture on vertical walls.
| Standard designation | Set point | OEM acceptance criterion |
|---|---|---|
| ISO 4892-2:2013 cycle 1 | 0.51 W/m² at 340 nm, black-panel 65 °C | ΔE ≤ 2.0 after OEM-defined radiant exposure |
| SAE J2527 | 0.55 W/m² at 340 nm, black-panel 70 °C | Gloss retention ≥ 70% at 1,500 kJ/m² |
For unpainted exterior trim, the formulation reference is 100 parts AVR300 with 2.0–4.0 wt% weatherable color concentrate and 0.2–0.4 wt% internal lubricant. Regrind is introduced at 15–25 wt% only after notched impact validation on weld-line specimens; field-scale observations show weld lines near mirror mounting bosses lose 35–50% of virgin Charpy value when regrind exceeds 25 wt%. Compliance is anchored to ISO 179-1/1eA:2010 for notched Charpy at 23 °C and −30 °C, ISO 180/1A for Izod, and SAE J2527 xenon-arc exposure for molded-in-color exterior trim. Finished part types include exterior mirror housings, A-pillar covers, cowl grilles, and radiator grille surrounds.
In capstock coextrusion for window lineal and facade cladding, the weathering layer is 0.8–1.5 mm thick and is run on conical twin-screw extruders with metering-section temperature of 195–215 °C. The substrate is normally rigid PVC or mineral-filled PVC. On production lines, the same desiccant-drying discipline applies as for injection molding; capstock regrind containing rigid PVC dust above 0.1 wt% causes interfacial delamination and pinholes at the die lip. Weathering qualification uses ISO 4892-2:2013 cycle 1 at 0.51 W/m² and 340 nm with black-panel temperature 65 °C; target Δb is ≤ 3.0 after 8,000 h depending on substrate and color system, while EN 12608-1 and EN 12608-2 govern profile dimensions and impact behavior of the finished window. RAL-GZ 716/1 provides the quality-assurance framework for PVC window profiles with ASA capstock. The formulation addition ratio is 70–85 wt% AVR300, 10–20 wt% weatherable acrylic-styrene-acrylonitrile modifier or PMMA, 3–5 wt% titanium dioxide-based color concentrate, and 0.1–0.3 wt% process stabilizer. The layer is fed through a feedblock and coat-hanger manifold die with die-lip gaps of 0.4–1.0 mm, then vacuum-sized at −0.06 to −0.08 MPa with cooling-water inlet at 15–20 °C; line speed is adjusted so the capstock remains 10–15% of total wall thickness. Terminal profiles include coextruded window lineals, door outer frames, rain cladding planks, and fascia boards.
Under UL 746C f1 recognition, the AVR300-based compound is evaluated for UV weathering and water immersion followed by dielectric strength retention. For enclosures specified to IEC 60529 IP65, gasket-seating bosses are dimensionally checked after 1,000 h of ISO 4892-2:2013 cycle 1 because flow-direction shrinkage anisotropy above 0.7% opens lip gaps around polyurethane gaskets. The formulation uses 88–92 wt% AVR300, 5–8 wt% surface-treated talc or wollastonite to reduce thermal expansion to 60–70 × 10−6 K−1, 2–4 wt% color masterbatch, and 0.2–0.3 wt% antioxidant. Glass fiber is omitted below 10 wt% because anisotropic orientation around threaded bosses increases cold-impact stress-cracking risk. Where UL 94 V-0 is required, AVR300 alone is not suitable; halogen-free intumescent loadings above 20 wt% reduce UV retention and notched impact and must be revalidated. Injection molding uses a reciprocating-screw press with shut-off nozzle, melt temperature 240–260 °C, mold temperature 70–85 °C, fill time 1.2–2.0 s for 2.5–4.0 mm walls, and gate diameters of 1.0–1.5 mm per 0.8 mm nominal wall to avoid jetting at bosses. EU conformity screens the base resin against REACH SVHC and RoHS 2011/65/EU Annex II. Terminal parts include outdoor telecommunication base-station housings, solar combiner boxes, EV charging station fascia covers, and weatherproof circuit-breaker enclosures.
Agricultural cowlings and sprayer covers are injection-molded from AVR300 at 100 parts resin with 1.5–3.0 wt% carbon black masterbatch, 0.2–0.5 wt% UV stabilizer, and 5–15 wt% clean in-house regrind; compliance is tested under ISO 4892-2:2013, ISO 179-1/1eA:2010 at −20 °C, and ISO 175:2010 diesel immersion for 7 days at 23 °C with maximum tensile strength loss ≤ 15%; processing uses medium-tonnage injection presses with melt temperature 230–245 °C, mold temperature 45–60 °C, and screw L/D 20:1–24:1; finished parts include tractor fender extensions, combine side panels, zero-turn mower engine shrouds, and sprayer tank covers.
Marine and recreational-vehicle exterior parts require low-gloss surface stability and resistance to salt, bilge cleaning agents, and thermal moisture cycling. AVR300 is coextruded as a 0.6–1.2 mm cap layer over ABS or high-impact polystyrene for RV laminated sidewalls, using a textured roll stack at 70–85 °C to imprint grain depths of 0.03–0.07 mm. Compliance references include ASTM D4329-13 for UV-condensation cycling, ISO 846:2019 method B for fungal resistance, ISO 4892-2:2013 with ΔE ≤ 2.5 after 2,000 h, and ASTM D256-10 Izod impact at −20 °C. The formulation is 75–85 wt% AVR300, 10–20 wt% ASA-based regrind or impact modifier, 3–5 wt% pigment masterbatch, and 0.2–0.4 wt% hindered amine light stabilizer; silicone-based mold release is limited to 0.1 wt% because higher concentrations create pinholes after thermoforming. Sheet extrusion uses a single-screw extruder with L/D 32:1 and melt temperature 220–240 °C; thermoforming is conducted at sheet surface temperature 160–180 °C. Injection-molded bezels use mold temperature 50–70 °C and holding pressure 60–80 MPa. Published multi-year salt-spray data for this specific AVR300 marine-bezel configuration is limited; pre-production validation therefore includes ISO 9227:2022 neutral salt spray at 240 h followed by ISO 179-1/1eA:2010 impact at −20 °C, with retention ≥ 80% of the unexposed value. Terminal parts include RV cargo door skins, marine instrument bezels, GPS housing covers, and personal watercraft glovebox lids.
In outdoor seating, seat and back slats are injection-molded with hot-runner valve gates that create a weld line at the central rib. AVR300 is used neat with 2–4 wt% UV-stabilized color concentrate, but annual ambient swings from −15 °C to 65 °C require mold-filling analysis to reduce flow-induced internal stress. Compliance uses ISO 4892-2:2013 for color change, ISO 179-1/1eA:2010 for notched Charpy at −20 °C, and EN 16139:2013 for non-domestic seating loads; relevant static-load clauses require seat tests at 2,000 N and back tests at 1,000 N depending on seat width. The formulation ratio is 94–97 wt% AVR300 with 3–4 wt% masterbatch and 0.3–0.5 wt% processing aid; post-consumer recycled ABS is not added above 5 wt% because butadiene-phase oxidation lowers notched impact below the 8 kJ/m² acceptance threshold after weathering. Injection molding uses melt temperature 240–255 °C, mold temperature 60–80 °C, and a two-stage fill profile with initial screw speed of 30–50 mm/s to avoid air traps in textured grain. Terminal parts include park benches, stadium seats, street-furniture armrests, and bus-stop seat slats.
