Wet-process lithium-ion battery separator manufacture uses a high-molecular-weight polyethylene fraction dissolved in paraffin oil. YEV-5201T is introduced as the entanglement-forming component blended with a lower-viscosity HDPE carrier. The compound is metered through a co-rotating twin-screw extruder with an L/D ratio of 48 and segmented mixing elements. Liquid paraffin is injected at a controlled temperature between 160°C and 200°C. The resulting gel is cast through a T-die onto a chill roll maintained at 20–40°C. Gel film thickness is reduced by sequential biaxial stretching. Machine-direction draw ratios are typically 4:1 to 6:1; transverse-direction draw ratios are typically 4:1 to 8:1. The paraffin oil is removed in a counter-current solvent extraction bath. Dichloromethane or n-heptane is used as the extraction medium. The microporous membrane then enters a multi-stage drying section. Heat-setting is performed at 120–130°C with controlled retraction. Pore size distribution is measured by mercury porosimetry according to ISO 15901-1. Air permeability is measured by the Gurley method as specified in ISO 5636-5. Puncture resistance is tested according to ASTM F1306. Process conflict arises from melt memory and gel particle formation. If the UHMWPE component is not fully dissolved, the remaining gel particles produce pinhole defects during transverse stretching. Batch-to-batch variation in average molecular weight, as measured by ISO 1628-3 viscosity number, alters the dissolution rate. Production operators routinely adjust the extruder temperature profile in the range of 160–200°C to avoid excessive shear heating. Shear heating above 220°C initiates thermo-oxidative degradation. A nitrogen blanket is recommended for the extruder feed throat. When stored at RH > 60%, the powder should be dried at 80°C for 2 hours before feeding. Published data for YEV-5201T in this exact separator configuration is limited. Process validation requires gel fraction testing and biaxial stretchability trials at the target thickness.
Gel spinning is the only continuous route capable of orienting ultra-high molecular weight chains into a high-tenacity fibre. YEV-5201T is dissolved in decalin or paraffin oil at a concentration of 5–15 wt% in a jacketed stirred vessel at 140–180°C. The solution is fed by a gear pump through a spinneret. A water or ethanol quench bath freezes the gel fibre. The as-spun fibre contains extractable solvent. Extraction is performed with a volatile solvent. Drying is followed by hot drawing at a total draw ratio up to 60:1 in multiple stages. Tensile properties are measured according to ASTM D2256 for yarn. Linear density is measured by ASTM D1907. Tenacity of UHMWPE gel-spun fibre is typically above 20 cN/dtex, but published grade-specific tenacity for YEV-5201T is limited. Chain entanglement density is controlled by dissolution time and temperature. Incomplete dissolution generates gel specks that break during drawing. Processing conflicts include solvent viscosity shifts and die swell. Melt spinning is not applicable because UHMWPE does not exhibit a measurable melt flow index under ASTM D1238 conditions. Viscosity number measured per ISO 1628-3 is the appropriate chain length indicator. The upper drawing temperature is limited to approximately 150°C. Above 150°C, relaxation reduces chain orientation. A nitrogen atmosphere is required in the dissolution vessel to limit oxidative chain scission. Published data for YEV-5201T gel-spun fibre strength and modulus are limited. Processors should run a designed experiment with 5 wt%, 10 wt%, and 15 wt% solution concentrations.

Food and beverage conveyor lines use UHMWPE wear strips and chain guides because the material resists absorption and maintains low sliding friction in wet environments. YEV-5201T powder is placed into a positive-pressure compression mould heated by platens at 200–220°C. The mould is closed at 10–15 MPa. Holding time is set at 15 minutes per 10 mm of sheet thickness. Cooling is performed under pressure to below 60°C to prevent warpage. The resulting sheet is planed to thickness tolerances of ±0.05 mm on a thicknessing machine. Coefficient of friction against stainless steel is measured according to ASTM D1894. Abrasion resistance is assessed by the sand-slurry method specified in ISO 15527. Hardness is reported as Shore D per ISO 868. Tensile yield stress is measured with ISO 527-2 at 23°C. Impact resistance is checked by Charpy notched test according to ISO 179-1. Food-contact compliance must be verified for the specific lot. FDA 21 CFR 177.1520 covers olefin polymers used in contact with food; EU Regulation 10/2011 requires specific migration testing for the finished article. YEV-5201T is an industrial-grade resin. The moulding facility must confirm food-contact status before using the strip in direct food contact. Processing at platen temperatures above 240°C causes chain degradation and surface yellowing. Unprotected exposure to ultraviolet light during outdoor storage embrittles the surface layer within several months. Published data for this specific grade in bottling line service life is limited.
For sliding abrasion in chute and hopper liners, YEV-5201T sheet is compression-moulded to thicknesses from 10 mm to 50 mm. Wear rate is measured by ISO 15527 sand-slurry abrasion. Published comparative wear indices against carbon steel are site-dependent; end-user validation is required under actual material moisture content and particle velocity.
Sintered porous sheet from YEV-5201T powder is formed by uniaxial compression at 180–200°C under 5–10 MPa. The powder particles fuse at contact points without melting completely. Porosity is maintained in the 30–40% range. Mean pore size is controlled by powder particle size distribution and pressure. Bubble point pressure is measured according to ISO 4003. The sintered sheet is used as a diffuser membrane in wastewater aeration basins and as a filter support plate in plate-and-frame units. The pore network resists biological fouling. Cleaning is performed by backwashing or mild acid washing. Aeration panels must be supported by perforated stainless steel or reinforced plastic frames. Flexural modulus of sintered sheet is lower than solid compression-moulded sheet. Panel deflection under a differential pressure of 0.5 bar should be checked using a three-point bend per ISO 178. Published data for YEV-5201T sintered porosity and air permeability is limited. The processor should run a matrix of 180°C, 190°C, and 200°C sintering temperatures with pressure at 5 MPa and 10 MPa. Pore size distribution is measured by capillary flow porometry per ASTM F316. The process is not suitable for membranes requiring absolute pore sizes below 1 µm.
Synthetic ice panels and recreational skating surfaces are produced from solid UHMWPE sheet. YEV-5201T is compression-moulded into panels with thicknesses from 10 mm to 20 mm. The panels are joined with tongue-and-groove profiles machined to tolerances of ±0.1 mm. Sliding friction against stainless steel skate blades is measured by ASTM D1894. The wear path is monitored by surface roughness change using ISO 4287. Impact resistance is tested with a falling dart per ISO 6603-2 at -20°C and 23°C. Edge fastening requires predrilled holes with oversize diameters to accommodate thermal expansion. Linear thermal expansion coefficient for UHMWPE homopolymer is approximately 1.5 × 10^-4 K^-1 in the 23–60°C range. Published specific expansion data for YEV-5201T is limited. Outdoor use requires UV-stabilized masterbatch. Unprotected outdoor exposure causes surface oxidation and a rise in coefficient of friction. Incoming inspection should include viscosity number per ISO 1628-3 and gel particle count on compression-moulded plaques.
