Sinopec Yangzi mPE P3806R enters rotational moulding lines for agricultural chemical storage tanks as a pulverised powder with a nominal density of 0.938 g/cm³ per ASTM D1505 and a melt flow rate of 3.8 g/10 min per ASTM D1238 at 190 °C/2.16 kg. The powder is sieved to pass 35 mesh with fines below 200 mesh held to 8–12 wt%; dry-flow is measured at 30–35 s/100 g per ASTM D1895. On a three-station carousel machine with a 4.0:1 primary arm ratio and a 1:5 secondary arm ratio, a 1,500 L tank mould is charged with 22–24 kg of compound per arm. The oven chamber is held at 285 ± 10 °C; the mould surface reaches 230–240 °C while the internal air temperature is maintained at 205–212 °C for 180–240 s. If the peak internal air temperature exceeds 220 °C, the inner wall yellows and ASTM D638 tensile elongation at break falls below 600%. If the peak internal air temperature remains below 195 °C, unmelted particle cores appear as pinholes at the inner surface during the 0.8 MPa hydrostatic leak test per ASTM D1998-15. Outdoor formulations are prepared by dry-blending 1.5–2.0 wt% of a 40 wt% carbon black masterbatch and 0.7–1.0 wt% of a HALS/UV absorber masterbatch before charging. Environmental stress crack resistance of moulded plaques per ASTM D1693 condition C at 50 °C in 100% Igepal CO-630 remains above 1,000 h for 8 mm wall sections, supporting service against dilute agrochemical mixtures at temperatures up to 40 °C.

In kayak hull production, P3806R is charged at 18–20 kg into a cast aluminium mould with a nominal wall thickness of 5–6 mm. The oven set point is 270–285 °C; the internal air temperature is ramped to 200–208 °C over 14–18 min and held for 90–120 s. Because aluminium has a thermal diffusivity roughly 20 times higher than polyethylene, the mould skin cools quickly during forced-air cooling at 8–10 °C/min, creating differential shrinkage between the outer skin and the lower-crystallinity inner layer. Demoulding at internal air temperature above 75 °C causes post-removal deformation at the keel line; demoulding below 50 °C increases release force against the aluminium shell and can initiate micro-cracks at the cockpit rim. Low-temperature ductility is verified by ISO 179-1/1eA Charpy impact at -30 °C, with P3806R retaining at least 7 kJ/m². The cockpit lip is post-trimmed and flame-treated to 32–36 dyn/cm for adhesive bonding of deck fittings. Failure to hold internal air at 200 °C or higher leaves interparticle voiding at the stern keel line, which is detected by a vacuum tightness test at -0.05 MPa and by sectioning one sacrificial hull from each production batch.
For rotomoulded battery boxes and road machinery covers, P3806R is processed at lower oven temperatures than chemical tanks to protect metal inserts and threaded brass bushes. A 6 mm nominal wall battery box weighing 9–11 kg is moulded at an oven set point of 260–275 °C and a peak internal air temperature of 195–205 °C. The powder is dry-blended with 0.5–0.8 wt% of a metal deactivator masterbatch to limit copper-catalysed thermo-oxidative degradation at the brass insert interface. Chemical resistance is assessed per ASTM D543-14 after 30 days immersion in 30 wt% sulfuric acid at 23 °C, with weight change below 1%. Inserts moulded into the lid and base are specified to survive an axial pull-out force of 1,800 N; sidewall thickness variation across the lid is kept within ±0.4 mm by adjusting the rotation ratio to 3.75:1 and 1:5. Peak internal air temperature above 210 °C causes sink marks around inserts due to localised melt migration, while values below 190 °C produce poor fusion at the insert root and increase the risk of acid ingress along the threaded interface.
In twin-screw compounding of recycled HDPE drainage pipe reclaim, P3806R is dosed at 15–25 wt% through a gravimetric feeder into a co-rotating twin-screw extruder with L/D 44:1, screw diameter 75 mm, and barrel temperatures from 180 °C at the feed throat to 230 °C at the die. The metallocene component offsets the melt-strength loss caused by oxidative chain scission in reclaimed HDPE. The blend melt flow rate per ISO 1133-1:2022 at 190 °C/5 kg is kept within 0.35–0.55 g/10 min to maintain pipe extrusion stability. Environmental stress crack resistance measured on compression-moulded plaques per ASTM D1693 condition B improves from 80–120 h for the unmilled reclaim to 600–900 h at 20 wt% P3806R. Notched Charpy impact at -20 °C per ISO 179-1/1eA increases from 4.5 kJ/m² to 8.0 kJ/m². The addition level is capped at 25 wt% because higher loadings reduce flexural modulus below 800 MPa per ISO 178, causing ring stiffness failure in corrugated drainage pipe tested at 23 °C per ISO 9969.
| P3806R addition (wt%) | ESCR (h) | Charpy impact at -20 °C (kJ/m²) | Flexural modulus (MPa) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0 | 80–120 | 4.5 | 1,050 |
| 15 | 450–600 | 6.5 | 900 |
| 20 | 600–900 | 8.0 | 840 |
| 25 | 750–1,000 | 8.5 | 790 |
Insulated fish boxes and food-contact logistics containers are rotomoulded from P3806R with an outer wall thickness of 6–8 mm and a hollow cavity filled with rigid polyurethane foam of density 35–40 kg/m³. The resin base complies with FDA 21 CFR 177.1520 for olefin polymers used in contact with food, provided the moulded article is cleaned and tested under the end-use extraction conditions specified by 21 CFR 177.1520(c). Before charging, 1.0–1.5 wt% titanium dioxide masterbatch is dry-blended to limit light transmission and reduce surface temperature rise during outdoor handling. Moulding is carried out at an oven set point of 260–280 °C and peak internal air temperature of 195–205 °C. The polyurethane foam exotherm at the inner wall interface must not exceed 90 °C; above that temperature, localised softening of the polyethylene liner produces visible dimpling after cooling. Drop testing from 1.2 m at -20 °C per ISO 2206 is used to confirm that foam-filled sidewalls remain crack-free after repeated thermal cycling between -30 °C and 40 °C.
Large-diameter vertical storage vessels for wastewater treatment and industrial process water are moulded with P3806R at wall thicknesses of 10–12 mm and diameters up to 2,500 mm. The primary processing risk is differential shrinkage between the mould-contact surface and the free inner surface during cooling. On a shuttle-type rotomoulding machine, forced-air cooling is limited to 4–6 °C/min until internal air temperature falls from 210 °C to 110 °C, after which water fog is applied at 0.5–1.0 °C/min. This staged profile keeps vertical wall bow within ±1.0 mm over a 1,000 mm axial gauge length. External reinforcing ribs are formed by increasing the local powder charge in the rib cavities to 120% of the nominal shell weight per unit area. Tensile yield stress of sections cut from the moulded shell is checked per ISO 527-2/1A and is maintained at 17–19 MPa; elongation at break remains above 700%. Vessels for potable water contact are additionally evaluated under FDA 21 CFR 177.1520 and NSF/ANSI 61 where the jurisdiction requires mechanical or chemical extraction data for the specific moulded geometry.

Sinopec Yangzi Petrochemical Co., Ltd. supplies mPE P3806R as a metallocene-catalysed linear low-density polyethylene powder intended for rotational molding of enclosed or partially enclosed industrial and consumer articles. The grade is an ethylene–α-olefin copolymer with a nominal density of 0.938 g/cm³ determined by ISO 1183-1:2019 and a nominal melt mass-flow rate of 3.8 g/10 min at 190 °C under 2.16 kg load per ISO 1133-1:2022. This places P3806R in the medium-density portion of the linear-low-density envelope: it is stiffer than film-grade mLLDPE but retains sufficient slow-crack resistance for load-bearing molded shells. Typical producer physical property data list tensile yield stress at 17.7 MPa per ASTM D638-14, elongation at break above 600%, flexural modulus at 620 MPa per ASTM D790-17, and environmental stress-crack resistance above 1,000 h under ASTM D1693-15B in 10% Igepal CO-630 at 50 °C.

Incoming lot verification typically covers density, melt mass-flow rate, and powder dry-flow. The powder should be stored below 50 °C in closed, UV-shielded silos or liners; moisture uptake above 0.05% by weight encourages microvoid formation during sintering and increases pinhole frequency in rotomolded shells. Sieve distribution per ASTM D1921 is a practical control because particles retained above 35 mesh (500 µm) extend oven residence and can appear as surface inclusions. When storage humidity exceeds 60% RH, a hot-air drying step at 80 °C for 2 h is recommended before charging the mold.
In conventional Ziegler-Natta LLDPE, the distribution of α-olefin comonomer is non-uniform across the molecular weight distribution: lower-molecular-weight chains receive the majority of short-chain branches, while higher-molecular-weight fractions retain longer linear sequences and higher crystallinity. P3806R, produced with a single-site metallocene catalyst, exhibits more homogeneous comonomer placement, reducing the high-crystallinity fractions that limit tie-molecule density. The practical consequence is environmental stress-crack resistance above 1,000 h under ASTM D1693-15B, whereas conventional LLDPE rotomolding grades of equivalent 0.938 g/cm³ density and 3.8 g/10 min melt mass-flow rate frequently exhibit F50 values below 500 h. The narrower molecular weight distribution also lowers the melt flow rate ratio; P3806R shows less shear thinning than a Ziegler-Natta grade of similar melt index, which changes bubble release and wall-coating dynamics in low-shear rotational molding.
Compared with lower-density mLLDPE film and molding grades, P3806R carries higher flexural modulus because density is set at 0.938 g/cm³; this permits a given part wall section to resist top-load and buckling with less material. Compared with higher-density medium-density polyethylene rotomolding grades near 0.942–0.945 g/cm³, P3806R retains longer F50 ESCR and better low-temperature ductility. The grade is not a direct substitute for high-rigidity bimodal HDPE in large pallet-shell applications; its role is in tanks, vessels, and complex enclosures where stress-crack resistance and warpage control are more important than maximum flexural modulus. Published data for direct property comparison of P3806R with specialty C8 mLLDPE rotomolding grades is limited, so converter qualification against the specific C8 benchmark is required where extreme low-temperature impact is the primary selection criterion.
On rotational molding machines, the metallocene architecture lowers the onset temperature for particle coalescence relative to conventional grades of the same density. Melt viscosity at low shear is lower than that of a Ziegler-Natta LLDPE with the same 3.8 g/10 min melt index, which allows a reduction in peak internal air temperature of 5–10 °C for the same nominal wall thickness. This reduction narrows the oxidative degradation boundary and can extend thermal stabilizer service life. Because the resin is less shear-sensitive, the powder also exhibits a shorter sintering plateau; operators can usually switch from a Ziegler-Natta LLDPE to P3806R without increasing oven set point, provided that internal air temperature is monitored and the cooling ramp is retuned for the lower crystallinity.
Shuttle-type and carousel machines with swing diameters between 2.8 m and 4.0 m have been used to mold P3806R at nominal wall thicknesses from 6 mm to 25 mm. Oven set points are commonly 270–280 °C, but the release criterion is peak internal air temperature, not oven timer. A PIAT of 195–205 °C is typically sufficient for full sintering at 12 mm wall thickness; at PIAT below 185 °C, cross-sections can show bubble-void area fractions above 2% and tensile elongation loss. At PIAT above 210 °C, surface yellowing and a decline in ESCR indicate oxidation. Cooling should proceed in two stages: forced air at 2–3 °C/min until the part reaches 65 °C, followed by water mist or forced air at 3–5 °C/min to demold below 40 °C. Demolding above 50 °C increases post-mold shrinkage variation and can induce wall distortion in flat-panel sections.
Foam-filled or multi-layer laminates are not routinely specified with this grade because the narrow molecular weight distribution reduces melt strength during blowing-agent expansion; a high-melt-strength LLDPE or HDPE should be used for foam layers. In applications requiring internal tie layers, corona or plasma treatment of P3806R surfaces can raise surface energy above 40 mN/m for adhesive lamination, but the treated surface must be bonded within 24 h to avoid hydrophobic recovery. For mechanical inserts or brass fittings, insert temperature should be maintained at 80–100 °C before molding to reduce cooling shutdown stresses around the metal-polymer interface.
When P3806R is introduced into an existing cycle developed for a Ziegler-Natta LLDPE rotomolding powder, the lower low-shear viscosity and more uniform comonomer distribution can shorten the required sintering window. Molds that previously required PIAT of 205–210 °C may reach equivalent void-free consolidation at 195–200 °C. This does not automatically permit a shorter total cycle; the heating segment must still deliver enough heat into the mold wall to densify the full cross-section. Air-flow modifications, baffle adjustments, or swing-ratio changes may be needed because the powder bed moves differently when the melt film forms at a lower temperature. The recommended arm ratio remains 4:1; lower ratios can produce non-uniform wall thickness in deep-draw tools. The mold-release cycle should also be reviewed, because P3806R parts can adhere to untreated steel at demolding temperatures above 50 °C and may require a semi-permanent release coating.
In production-scale trials, processors have reported that P3806R produces less white fuming and odor than some Ziegler-Natta powders at equivalent oven setting. Fuming is not a substitute for emission monitoring; vent gases should still be captured and treated according to local volatile organic compound limits. Published data for this specific configuration is limited for stack-emission values, so the processor should measure olefin mist and oxidation by-products under actual cycle conditions using standardized industrial hygiene methods. The lower extractable profile of metallocene polyethylenes can be confirmed on finished articles by extraction testing rather than inferred from resin grade alone.
P3806R can be qualified for potable water contact and food contact applications under standard olefin polymer frameworks. The base resin is typically supported by producer declarations for compliance with FDA 21 CFR 177.1520, GB 4806.7-2016, and EU Regulation 10/2011 as amended, subject to end-use migration testing. Resin compliance alone is not sufficient; the converter must conduct overall migration tests on the finished article with the intended simulant because molding aids, colorants, and post-mold coatings alter extractability. For potable water tanks, extraction testing per GB/T 17219-2018 or an equivalent national standard is commonly requested.

|---|---|---|
| Food-contact olefin polymer | FDA 21 CFR 177.1520 | Base resin compliance; article migration testing required |

Operational boundaries should be defined before specification. Continuous contact with strong oxidizing acids, aromatic hydrocarbon fuels, or chlorinated solvents is not recommended without immersion testing per ISO 175:2010 or ASTM D543-20. For sodium hypochlorite disinfection of stored water, the molded article should be tested at the maximum service concentration and temperature; repeated shock dosing above 10 mg/L free chlorine at 60 °C can deplete hindered-amine or phenolic stabilizers and shorten stress-crack resistance. UV-stabilized versions, if not included in the base grade, require external pigmentation or a stabilizer masterbatch; natural P3806R is not intended for continuous outdoor exposure without UV screening or carbon black addition.
A typical rotomolded agricultural sprayer tank with a 12 mm nominal wall made from P3806R demonstrates the intended balance: the 0.938 g/cm³ density provides enough top-load stiffness to resist deformation during transport, while ESCR performance above 1,000 h under ASTM D1693-15B supports extended contact with dilute pesticide solutions and wetting agents. The tank should be qualified with the full chemical package at 40 °C for 30 days per ASTM D543-20 because surfactant-assisted stress cracking is formulation-dependent. Where a tank is rotationally molded with blow-molded inserts, the insert material must be selected for compatibility with the metallocene melt stream to avoid interfacial crystalline regions that weaken the weld line.
