Across high-speed injection lines with clamp force from 1600 kN to 2200 kN and 45 mm general-purpose screws at L/D 22:1, T60-800 is processed at melt temperatures of 215 °C to 240 °C. The nominal melt flow rate of 8.0 g/10 min at 190 °C/2.16 kg per ASTM D1238 or ISO 1133-1 and the nominal density of 0.960 g/cm³ per ASTM D1505 or ISO 1183-1 support wall sections from 0.6 mm to 0.9 mm in dairy cups and deli containers. Cavity fill pressure is sustained between 65 MPa and 90 MPa when injection speed is set at 100 mm/s to 140 mm/s and the sprue bush orifice is 3.2 mm. Hold pressure of 30 MPa to 40 MPa is applied for 0.8 s to 1.5 s before gate freeze. A screw cushion of 4 mm to 8 mm is held to dampen pressure oscillation from the carriage manifold.
Regrind from closed-loop sprues and runners is accepted up to 20 wt% with virgin pellet when melt filtration uses an 80 mesh screen pack. At addition above 30 wt%, gate blush appears on polished cavity surfaces and the melt-pressure trace shows high-frequency instability. The base resin normally requires no pre-drying when warehouse humidity is below 55 %RH. Above 60 %RH, pellet is dried at 80 °C for 2 h with dehumidified air at a dew point of -30 °C to avoid screw surging and inconsistent shot volume. Round cups are gated at four balanced points into the rim; gate vestige height below 0.3 mm prevents lid interference on high-speed filling lines.
Food-contact converters apply a high-density polyethylene carrier colour masterbatch at 1.5 wt% to 2.5 wt% and, where faster crystallisation is required, a nucleating masterbatch at 0.05 wt% to 0.1 wt%. The nucleating package can reduce cooling time by 10 % to 15 % but may increase linear shrinkage variation across the cup wall. Finished articles are tested under EU Regulation (EU) No 10/2011 at overall migration < 10 mg/dm², under GB 4806.6-2016 at total migration < 10 mg/dm², and with the base olefin polymer referenced to FDA 21 CFR §177.1520(c). Additive compliance is verified separately with the masterbatch supplier.
Ventilated logistic crates and agricultural totes from 35 L to 60 L are moulded on toggle presses with clamp force from 4000 kN to 6000 kN and tie-bar spacing above 800 mm. Four to six valve-gated hot runner drops feed the cavity with gate diameters of 3.0 mm to 4.0 mm. Melt temperature is set from 220 °C to 250 °C and mould temperature from 20 °C to 40 °C. When the hold-pressure timer is shorter than the gate freeze time, melt decompression inside the thick wall produces sink marks where base ribs intersect the sidewall. The resulting bottom flatness deviation exceeds 2.0 mm over a 600 mm diagonal in 45 L crates.
For 45 L crates with nominal wall thickness from 2.5 mm to 3.5 mm, hold pressure is held at 28 MPa to 35 MPa for 10 s to 14 s, and cooling time is set to 18 s to 25 s. The valve gate is closed 0.3 s to 0.5 s before final hold-pressure decay to prevent material flow back into the hot runner. Ejection air blast plus eight or ten lifter cores releases the part at mould opening of 200 mm to 250 mm. In freezer loading, T60-800 without impact modification may not meet drop impact requirements at -20 °C. Notched Izod impact per ASTM D256 and environmental stress crack resistance per ASTM D1693 condition B should be requested from the lot certificate when crates are specified for cold-room or outdoor produce supply chains. Lot-specific shrinkage measured per ASTM D955 is used to correct rib layout because published data for this specific configuration is limited.
For open-top pails and tight-head drums from 5 L to 25 L, T60-800 is processed on high-torque reciprocating screw presses with clamp force from 3000 kN to 5000 kN and shot capacity from 1200 g to 2500 g. Wall thickness ranges from 1.8 mm to 2.5 mm. Bottom corner radii are maintained above 3.0 mm to avoid notch-sensitive failure at the transition between base and sidewall. Melt temperature is set from 225 °C to 250 °C, with screw speed from 50 mm/s to 80 mm/s, back pressure from 0.8 MPa to 1.5 MPa, and hold pressure from 35 MPa to 45 MPa for 12 s to 20 s.
Regrind content in UN-certified pails is limited to 15 wt% first-generation internal scrap after the gate and handle flash are ground. Higher regrind loads reduce low-temperature ductility and increase the failure rate in drop testing. The finished pail is conditioned at -18 °C for 24 h and drop-tested under the drop height specified in UN Model Regulations 6.1.5.3 for the declared packing group and liquid density. Pails with visible gate vestige or weld-line displacement around the handle region can pass at 23 °C and fail at -18 °C. Top-load compression is checked per ASTM D642; a 20 L open-top pail typically supports a top-load force above 800 N without sidewall buckling.
T60-800 is not specified for prolonged contact with aromatic hydrocarbons, chlorinated solvents, or concentrated oxidising acids above 40 °C. For mildly acidic and alkaline aqueous formulations, compatibility is confirmed by weight change and tensile retention testing per ISO 175 or customer-specific protocols.
When the same pellet is switched to a 24-cavity hot-runner closure tool, the limiting parameter shifts from injection pressure to gate vestige and holding-pressure stability. Melt temperature is held at 220 °C to 240 °C, mould temperature at 15 °C to 30 °C, and total cycle time from 12 s to 18 s. Valve-gate drops of 1.5 mm to 2.5 mm fill each closure at injection pressures below 90 MPa. The gates close 0.2 s to 0.4 s before hold pressure terminates. Gate-string vestige is maintained below 0.5 mm to avoid interference with the liner sealing surface.
Closures and overcaps for dry powders and non-carbonated liquids are tested for leak integrity at 0.3 bar positive internal pressure and for removal torque from 1.5 N·m to 3.0 N·m after 24 h conditioning. Organoleptic panels follow ASTM E1870 for odour and taste transfer where food contact is declared. The base resin and additive package require clearance under FDA 21 CFR §177.1520, EU Regulation (EU) No 10/2011, and GB 4806.6-2016. T60-800 is not recommended for carbonated drink closures in long-term storage because shelf-life stress cracking may exceed the lot-specific environmental stress crack resistance capability.
In multi-cavity household storage tooling, the main process constraint is ejector pin drag on polished surfaces rather than maximum injection pressure. T60-800 is moulded at melt temperatures from 210 °C to 240 °C and mould temperatures from 20 °C to 35 °C. Draft angles above 1.0 ° on sidewalls and 3.0 ° on ribs allow release with ejection forces below 15 kN per 1000 g of part weight. Cooling time of 12 s to 22 s is adequate for drawer units, storage boxes, and hangers. Regrind loading up to 20 wt% is tolerated without significant process change; above this level, colour shift in pale tones becomes visible.
Distribution pallet components such as snap-in under-blocks, edge protectors, and pallet feet are injection-moulded from T60-800 on machines with clamp force from 2500 kN to 5000 kN. Part weight ranges from 200 g to 600 g with wall sections between 3.0 mm and 6.0 mm. The thick sections allow hold pressure to be reduced to 20 MPa to 30 MPa for 6 s to 12 s and total cycle time from 35 s to 50 s for a 400 g under-block. The grade accepts up to 30 wt% post-industrial regrind when screen packs and magnetic separators are maintained. Above 30 wt%, voiding at rib intersections and melt-pressure trace irregularity become measurable.
Black compounds for outdoor-rated units use 1.5 wt% to 2.0 wt% carbon black masterbatch and are assessed under ISO 4892-2 cycle 1 for UV exposure. Compressive strength is measured per ASTM D642; a single under-block in a 1200 mm × 1000 mm pallet commonly withstands a top-load force above 1500 N before creep deformation becomes visible. Fit tolerances between the under-block snap feature and the deck are held within ±0.3 mm by compensating for post-mould shrinkage over 24 h per ASTM D955.
