    Certification & Compliance
    More Introduction

Shenzhen Qinfeng PC/ABS AM 1125 is a polycarbonate/acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene alloy grade supplied as a compounded pellet for injection moulding and, where flow-length requirements permit, profile or sheet extrusion. The grade identifier AM 1125 is supplier-specific and does not by itself encode melt viscosity, impact modification, or flame-retardant package; those parameters are resolved through the lot-specific certificate of analysis and the supplier’s current technical datasheet. Published data for this specific configuration is limited in consolidated public repositories, so specification comparisons in this document use platform-typical PC/ABS reference ranges. The product is typically selected where a manufacturing constraint requires lower melt viscosity than unmodified polycarbonate and higher heat resistance than standard ABS, with notched impact retention above the levels achievable in general-purpose styrenics.

Which process variables control moisture-induced degradation and splay in AM 1125?

Moisture control is the first processing constraint. PC/ABS blends are hydrolytically sensitive at melt temperatures because residual water reacts with polycarbonate carbonate linkages, reducing molar mass and producing surface splay, silver streaks, and lowered weld-line strength. For general-purpose PC/ABS, production-scale dehumidifying dryers are typically operated with a drying air dew point of −40 °C or lower and a pellet-bed temperature of 80 °C for 3 h to 4 h; the controlling target is residual moisture of ≤0.02 % by weight. For AM 1125, the supplier’s drying specification is the binding requirement, and if the supplier has not published a value, a maximum residual moisture level of 0.02 % should not be assumed; moisture analyser verification is required before release to the hopper.

On single-screw or reciprocating-screw injection machines, barrel temperature profiles for medium-flow PC/ABS typically range from 230 °C at the feed throat through 260 °C at the metering zone to 270 °C at the nozzle, with deviations permitted only to control short shots or delamination. For AM 1125, these values are not supplier-certified; if the melt temperature exceeds 280 °C, unacceptable degradation is likely in most PC/ABS chemistries, while below 230 °C melt homogeneity suffers. A melt-temperature pyrometer inserted into an air-shot is a standard reference under process documentation aligned with ISO 294-4. Back pressure in the range of 0.5 MPa to 1.5 MPa is used on typical 25 mm to 45 mm screws to maintain homogeneous dispersion; higher backpressure may increase melt temperature and reduce throughput.

Thermal, mechanical, and flame performance must be read against standard method designations

The following reference intervals are platform-typological, not AM 1125 certified. They are compiled from published generic PC/ABS, PC, and ABS datasheets. Lot-specific values are controlling for purchase specification and incoming quality control.

Since AM 1125-specific test data are not uniformly consolidated, qualification should rely on a differential scanning calorimetry trace to confirm the glass transition and any low-temperature secondary transitions relevant to dimensional stability. The combined effect of the polycarbonate phase is to shift the continuous-use thermal plateau above that of ABS, but the presence of the styrenic phase lowers melt viscosity compared with polycarbonate and reduces the pressure drop across multi-cavity hot-runner systems.

When PC/ABS AM 1125 is substituted for unmodified ABS or polycarbonate in structural housings

Substitution from ABS to PC/ABS is accompanied by an upward shift in processing temperature, higher melt strength, and improved ductile failure behavior in thick sections. Production trials on all-electric injection machines with clamp forces between 1,200 kN and 1,800 kN typically require a reduction in injection velocity relative to ABS because the PC/ABS melt exhibits a more pronounced viscoelastic response at the gate. The resulting flow-front temperature must be kept above 240 °C to avoid surface delamination and below 280 °C to prevent carbonate chain scission.

Substitution from unmodified PC to PC/ABS reduces the melt temperature required for filling by 20 °C to 40 °C in similar geometry, but sacrifices resistance to ketones, esters, and aromatic hydrocarbons. Flame performance remains grade-dependent. Unfilled PC/ABS without flame-retardant additives often carries UL 94 HB at 3.0 mm; V-0 at 1.5 mm is available only in specific flame-retardant formulations. If AM 1125 is not explicitly classified by the supplier, no flame class can be assumed. Unfilled PC/ABS typically displays mould shrinkage of 0.5 % to 0.8 % under ISO 294-4; glass-fiber or mineral-modified grades may show 0.1 % to 0.4 % depending on orientation. If AM 1125 is unfilled, specifying shrinkage across flow and cross-flow directions is mandatory for tool compensation.

No regulatory statement for AM 1125 can be inferred from the polymer class alone. The supplier must document REACH registration status under Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 and, where relevant, RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU Annex II restrictions for electrical and electronic equipment. Food-contact compliance cannot be assumed unless the supplier has issued a declaration under EU 2023/2006 GMP or U.S. FDA 21 CFR 177.1660, depending on jurisdiction. For applications requiring volatile organic compound or fogging limits, such as automotive interior components, a VDA 278 or DIN 75201 test report is required.

Drying, Moisture Uptake, and Screw Recovery Limits in Production

For post-consumer or in-line regrind, moisture uptake after drying is a process risk. PC/ABS surface moisture can exceed 0.03 % within 30 min at relative humidity above 60 %, which is why closed hopper systems with dry-air purge are used on production lines. Screw recovery on all-electric machines should be monitored for cushion drift exceeding 0.5 mm to 1.5 mm; check-ring wear alters effective shot volume and can push melt residence time beyond 10 min, at which point thermal degradation in PC/ABS becomes visible as brown streaks and a reduction in notched impact performance measured under ISO 180/A.

Pre-colouring of AM 1125 requires a PC-compatible carrier resin; masterbatches using PE- or PP-based carriers can cause delamination at part surfaces.
