Shenzhen Fuheng ABS FH-ABS-R610NR is an acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene copolymer supplied in pellet form for injection moulding and selected extrusion work. The grade belongs to the styrenic moulding-material family described by ISO 2580-2:2019, but the producer’s lot certificate of analysis is the binding release document. The designation string does not independently certify post-consumer recyclate content; procurement requiring recycled-content claims should demand a mass-balance statement conforming to ISO 14021 or EN 15343. The material is positioned for thin-wall technical parts requiring flow-length capability and moderate impact retention without the formulation cost of flame-retardant or electroplating packages. Because manufacturer-published data for this specific configuration is limited, the numerical property windows below are class-typical incoming-QC ranges for high-flow ABS and must be superseded by the current supplier datasheet.
Drying is mandatory for ABS exposed to ambient humidity. Moisture above 0.02 wt% produces silver streaks, splay, and viscosity variation during filling. The material is dried in a desiccant-wheel hopper dryer at 80–85 °C for 2–4 h, with supply-air dew point at or below −30 °C and minimum airflow of 0.8 m³/h per kg/h throughput. When ambient relative humidity exceeds 60 %, the residence time is extended to 4–6 h, and feed lines are sealed. Storage before processing is maintained below 50 °C and below 70 % relative humidity; opened packaging is consumed within 24 h or re-dried.
Injection-moulding barrel settings follow a flat-reverse temperature profile. Set points from rear to nozzle are 210 °C, 225 °C, 235 °C, and 240 °C, producing an air-shot melt temperature of 230–250 °C. A general-purpose screw with 20:1–25:1 L/D and compression ratio 2.2:1–2.8:1 is sufficient for unreinforced ABS; back pressure is held at 3–8 bar and screw decompression at 2–5 mm. The mold is held at 40–80 °C, with the upper half preferred when knit-line strength is critical. Residence time at melt temperature should not exceed 5 min. For interruptions, the barrel is purged with general-purpose ABS or SAN; polycarbonate/ABS purge is not used for this grade unless full screw and barrel cleaning is performed.
Fill speed is set between 50 mm/s and 120 mm/s across production tools, with first-stage packing pressure 60–100 MPa and second-stage hold 40–60 MPa until gate freeze. For thin-wall sections below 1.5 mm, high injection velocity and increased mold temperature are used, but weld-line impact is degraded. Mold venting at 0.01–0.02 mm depth across the parting line prevents diesel burns. If regrind is allowed by the part specification, add up to 20 wt% for non-appearance parts and 10 wt% for cosmetic surfaces, after independent drying to 0.03 wt% or less. Polyethylene-carrier masterbatch is excluded because carrier incompatibility generates weld-line delamination and inconsistent pigment dispersion; SAN-carrier masterbatch at 2–4 wt% is used instead.
Melt viscosity under shear is not constant. Capillary rheometry according to ISO 11443:2021 on similar high-flow ABS lots shows apparent shear viscosity decreasing from approximately 300 Pa·s at 100 s-1 to 80 Pa·s at 1000 s-1 at 240 °C. That shear-thinning response permits thin-wall filling at high screw velocity, but local viscosity near the frozen layer differs from the melt pool; short-shot trials must be combined with simulation rather than MVR alone. Published data for this specific configuration is limited, so the curve should be generated from the actual lot using capillary rheometry or slit-die inline rheometry.
Shrinkage compensation in holding pressure is based on pVT behavior. At holding-pressure transition from 60 MPa to 40 MPa, the part cools from 240 °C to mold temperature and undergoes specific volume reduction. For unfilled ABS, in-mold shrinkage in a 60 mm × 60 mm × 2 mm plaque is 0.4–0.7 % along flow and 0.3–0.6 % transverse. The difference is due to orientation and should be used for tool steel sizing. Warpage in large flat parts is controlled by mold temperature uniformity within ±5 °C, not by increasing packing pressure alone.
Incoming material qualification and cross-lot benchmarking are performed on specimens injection-moulded according to ISO 294-1:2017 and ISO 294-3:2020. The property window in Table 1 is a screening framework; each lot is released only against the supplier certificate of analysis.

| Melt volume-flow rate | ISO 1133-1:2022 | 18–25 cm³/10 min | 220 °C, 10 kg load |

| Tensile strain at yield | ISO 527-2:2012 | 2.0–3.0 % | Type 1A |
| Flexural modulus | ISO 178:2019 | 2100–2600 MPa | 2 mm/min |
| Charpy notched impact | ISO 179-1:2010 | 15–25 kJ/m² | 1eA, 23 °C |
| Vicat softening temperature | ISO 306:2022 | 95–110 °C | B50 method |

For falling-dart impact comparisons, Charpy notched data alone does not capture puncture failure when a housing is struck at a rib intersection. Data generated under ISO 6603-2:2023 on similar high-flow ABS shows puncture energy between 5 J and 12 J at 23 °C, while the lower bound drops to 2 J or below at −20 °C. This thermal transition is a known constraint for outdoor equipment housings. Published data for this specific configuration is limited, so pilot-tool specimens should be tested before release.
Replacement of standard high-impact ABS with FH-ABS-R610NR is not a direct drop-in. The product fills 1.5 mm nominal walls at 240–250 °C melt and 100 mm/s injection speed more reliably than a standard high-impact grade with MVR below 12 cm³/10 min, but the lower butadiene-rubber content reduces Charpy notched impact from the 25–35 kJ/m² typical of high-impact ABS to a 15–25 kJ/m² inspection window. For enclosure drop resistance, testing under IEC 60068-2-31 should be performed at −10 °C because ABS reaches brittle fracture earlier in thinner sections. Failure usually initiates at cold-runner gate vestiges or knit lines; gate geometry and valve-gate hot runners with positive shut-off reduce this risk more than increasing wall thickness alone.
When knit-line impact is critical, mold temperature is raised to 70–80 °C and melt temperature to the upper 250 °C window, but cycle time increases by approximately 10–15 %. A mold-temperature control unit capable of 0.5 kW per °C above ambient for a 500 kg tool avoids transient cold spots. The upper mold-temperature limit for unfilled ABS without rapid heat-cycle molding is 85 °C; above this, sink marks and longer cooling time exceed the toughness benefit.
If the part contacts disinfectants such as isopropanol at 5–10 % concentration, visual change and microcracking are possible because ABS of this class is not resistant to ketones, aromatic hydrocarbons, concentrated acids, or methylene chloride. For chemical-exposed housings, compatibility testing under ISO 22088-3 or in-house tensile-stress relaxation should be used. A polyurethane topcoat may shield the surface but adds flammability and recycling complexity.
Unless the supplier’s yellow-card documentation specifies a rating, unfilled ABS of this class is processed as an UL 94 HB material. Applications requiring glow-wire ignition temperature under IEC 60695-2-11 at 750 °C or comparative tracking index above 250 V should be evaluated with a flame-retardant ABS or a PC/ABS blend rather than relying on this grade. The product should not be mixed with polyacetal, halogenated flame-retardant purge, or molded from barrels containing acidic PVC residues because these combinations degrade the butadiene phase and cause surface plate-out. Regulatory compliance with RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU Annex II and REACH SVHC is confirmed only through the current supplier declaration for the specific color batch; additive packages change between production campaigns.
The grade differs from standard high-impact ABS in molecular architecture, not just viscosity. High-flow behavior is generally obtained by adjusting molecular weight distribution and butadiene-rubber particle size, which narrows the impact window and reduces environmental stress-cracking resistance under solvents. Against flame-retardant ABS, it provides lower melt temperature and better color stability; against PC/ABS, it provides lower density and lower drying temperature but lower heat resistance and toughness. Against recycled ABS grades, the difference is not defined by resin chemistry but by contamination control: the supplier should document ash content below 1 wt% and mesh filtration for non-plastic inclusions. Published data for this specific configuration is limited; direct comparative trials under ISO 2580-2 specimen preparation are required for final selection.
Process differentiation relative to adjacent ABS types is shown in Table 2. The comparison identifies standard reference points used during material review, not a substitution guide.
| Material class | Typical flow window via ISO 1133-1:2022 | Typical Charpy notched impact via ISO 179-1:2010 | Dominant limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| FH-ABS-R610NR high-flow ABS | 18–25 cm³/10 min | 15–25 kJ/m² | Weld-line impact and low-temperature brittleness |
| Standard high-impact ABS | 6–12 cm³/10 min | 25–35 kJ/m² | Higher injection pressure and thin-wall short shots |
| Flame-retardant ABS | 10–20 cm³/10 min | 10–20 kJ/m² | Thermal instability and mold plate-out |
| PC/ABS blend | 12–22 cm³/10 min | 40–60 kJ/m² | Melt temperature 250–270 °C and higher density |
| Electroplating ABS | 15–25 cm³/10 min | 20–30 kJ/m² | Etching adhesion window and high-gloss surface demands |
The substitution boundary occurs where the part’s thermal or impact requirement exceeds the grade’s Charpy notched window of 15–25 kJ/m² or where the end-product standard mandates flame-retardant ratings beyond UL 94 HB. In those cases, the flow advantage of FH-ABS-R610NR is subordinate to high-impact or flame-retardant compound selection.
