Shenzhen Fuheng ABS FH-ABS-R610HG is an acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene copolymer supplied for injection moulding of high-surface-quality appearance components. The suffix HG in the manufacturer’s designation is interpreted within the supplier’s nomenclature as a high-gloss, controlled-viscosity variant; however, because the public datasheet for this specific configuration is limited, any acceptance envelope cited below must be verified against the lot-specific certificate of analysis. The grade is evaluated for applications in which surface uniformity, dimensional stability under moderate heat, and reproducible gloss are controlling. On production lines, the material is processed on conventional three-zone reciprocating-screw injection moulding machines with screw L/D ratios of 20:1 to 22:1 and a compression ratio of 2.4:1 to 2.8:1. These values are compiled from high-gloss ABS injection-moulding grades of similar melt-flow class and are not a substitute for the producer’s approved processing sheet.
For incoming inspection, density and melt volume-flow rate are the most cost-effective screening parameters. Typical density for high-gloss ABS in this viscosity band falls between 1.03 g/cm³ and 1.06 g/cm³ in accordance with ISO 1183-1:2019. Melt volume-flow rate at 220 °C and 10 kg is expected in the range of 18 cm³/10 min to 30 cm³/10 min when evaluated according to ISO 1133-1:2022. A narrow MVR spread across shipments is more important than the absolute value for maintaining shot-to-shot consistency in appearance parts; drift greater than ±2 cm³/10 min against the reference lot may require adjustment of melt temperature and injection velocity. Tensile properties remain necessary for snap-fit design and finite element modelling. Representative high-gloss ABS grades in this flow category show tensile yield stress of 38 MPa to 48 MPa, elongation at yield of 2.2 % to 3.5 %, and tensile modulus of 2,000 MPa to 2,600 MPa under ISO 527-2:2012. Notched Izod impact at 23 °C commonly ranges from 10 kJ/m² to 22 kJ/m² under ISO 180:2023; at −30 °C the value may drop to 4 kJ/m² to 8 kJ/m², which restricts cold-impact applications. The following table consolidates the typical class-level envelope for screening; it is not product-specific published data.
| Property | Test standard | Typical high-gloss ABS window | Use in acceptance |
|---|---|---|---|
| Density | ISO 1183-1:2019 | 1.03 g/cm³–1.06 g/cm³ | Material identification and filler screening |
| Melt volume-flow rate | ISO 1133-1:2022 | 18 cm³/10 min–30 cm³/10 min | Processing consistency and lot drift |
| Tensile yield stress | ISO 527-2:2012 | 38 MPa–48 MPa | Snap-fit and structural screening |
| Notched Izod impact, 23 °C | ISO 180:2023 | 10 kJ/m²–22 kJ/m² | Impact and abuse-load assessment |
| Vicat softening temperature, B50 | ISO 306:2022 | 94 °C–104 °C | Short-term heat exposure |
| Heat deflection temperature, 1.8 MPa | ISO 75-2:2013 | 78 °C–88 °C | Structural performance under load |
The grade code places the material in a different rheology and surface gloss band than general-purpose ABS resins used in extrusion or basic injection moulding. General-purpose ABS often balances flow and impact at lower melt temperatures and may use broader butadiene particle-size distributions. High-gloss grades such as the R610HG designation typically exhibit a narrower molar-mass distribution, a more controlled rubber particle size, and friction-reducing internal lubricants that improve replication of the cavity surface. The shift appears as higher melt flow, lower intrinsic viscosity, and improved mould-surface transfer; the trade-off is usually lower notched impact strength and reduced resistance to UV-initiated oxidative degradation when compared with extrusion or high-impact ABS. The use of the letter R in the manufacturer’s code should be clarified with Shenzhen Fuheng; if R denotes recycled feedstock or recycled-content resin, the product will differ from virgin prime ABS in traceability, colour consistency, and possible volatile residues. A user must request the recycled content declaration and the melt viscosity curve generated under ISO 11443:2021 if the mould incorporates long hot-runner channels or shear-sensitive gate geometries.
Pre-drying is mandatory at relative humidity above 60 %. The granulate should be dried in a desiccant dryer at 80 °C for 2 h to 4 h until the residual moisture measured by loss-on-drying is below 0.05 %. Melt temperature at the nozzle should be maintained between 210 °C and 250 °C; for high-gloss surfaces, the upper half of the range is preferred to reduce flow marks and improve knit-line gloss, but sustained processing above 260 °C may thermally degrade the butadiene phase and release odorous volatiles. Mould temperature is a strong determinant of gloss and weldline appearance; polished cavity surfaces should be held at 40 °C to 80 °C. Higher mould surface temperature improves melt-front coalescence but prolongs cooling time. Injection velocity should be moderate to high, with short fill time and adequate pack pressure; a pressure-velocity phase profile with maximum injection pressure of 80 MPa to 120 MPa at the screw tip and holding pressure of 40 MPa to 70 MPa is commonly used. Back pressure during screw recovery should be low to moderate, typically 0.5 MPa to 2.0 MPa, to limit colour shift and screw wear. Hot-runner systems should be equipped with externally heated nozzles and no dead spots; residence time at melt temperature should not exceed 10 min. When the machine is stopped, the barrel should be purged with a commercial ABS purging compound. Combination with polycarbonate in the same barrel without adequate purging can cause visible delamination; the grade should not be blended with low-molecular-weight brominated flame retardants unless the stabilizer package is verified.
When the selected grade must fill thin-wall sections below 1.5 mm without increasing melt temperature beyond 250 °C, the melt’s pseudoplastic response becomes the controlling variable. High-gloss ABS resins in this viscosity band are shear-thinning; apparent viscosity may decrease from 1,200 Pa·s at 100 s⁻¹ to 250 Pa·s at 1,000 s⁻¹ at 230 °C, according to capillary rheometry data typical of this class. Published data for this specific configuration is limited; therefore, injection moulders should request a capillary viscosity curve generated according to ISO 11443:2021 and a spiral flow length measured at 230 °C and 80 MPa. For thin-wall applications, gate geometry should be optimized for a shear rate below 50,000 s⁻¹ to avoid surface degradation and splay. Pinpoint gates of 0.8 mm to 1.2 mm with a land length of 0.5 mm to 1.0 mm are appropriate for this material class. The resulting flow length-to-wall-thickness ratio for a 1.0 mm wall is generally in the range of 120:1 to 180:1; above this ratio, a high-flow ABS or an ABS/polycarbonate blend may be required. External mould release should be avoided because it interferes with surface gloss and paint adhesion.
Applications for FH-ABS-R610HG are centered on high-gloss appearance parts where dimensional accuracy and moderate toughness are required. Candidate components include appliance front panels, vacuum cleaner housings, trim rings, cosmetic packaging, display bezels, and consumer electronics enclosures. The material is selected when the design requires a 60° gloss value above 90 GU on a polished mould surface as measured by ASTM D2457-21; however, gloss retention depends on cavity finish, packing profile, and cooling uniformity. It is not suited for continuous outdoor exposure unless the moulder verifies UV stabilization and accelerated weathering performance under ISO 4892-2:2013 or ASTM D4329-21. It is also not recommended for direct contact with ketones, esters, or aromatic hydrocarbons; stress cracking may occur under tensile stress above 10 MPa when exposed to such solvents. For decorative plating, adhesion of subsequent metal layers should be validated according to ISO 2819:2018, because the high-gloss additive package may alter etchability.

On production-scale injection moulding machines with clamp force between 1,000 kN and 8,000 kN, three failure modes are commonly observed with high-gloss ABS grades of this type. Silver streaking appears when moisture or volatiles exceed the residence-time limit; the corrective action is to verify the dryer dew point below −30 °C and purge the barrel. Jetting occurs when the melt enters the cavity through an undersized gate at excessive injection speed; reducing the initial injection velocity or adding a tab gate resolves the surface defect. Gloss variation across the part often correlates with non-uniform mould temperature or insufficient packing time. The packing phase should be maintained until gate freeze; for a 2.0 mm wall, this usually requires 4 s to 8 s of holding time. Mould deposit on polished surfaces may require periodic cleaning with a non-abrasive alkaline cleaner; solvent-based mould cleaners should be avoided because they leave a residue that transfers to the part.
