    More Introduction

Shenzhen Chenyufeng PC/ABS CYF6410G is an injection-molding compound based on a polycarbonate and acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene alloy. The grade is specified for structural enclosures, interior frames, and thin-wall housings where the low-temperature ductility of polycarbonate is needed but the processing viscosity of unmodified polycarbonate is undesirable. Published data for CYF6410G-specific configurations is limited; the technical values presented here are representative of unfilled PC/ABS injection-molding grades in the same melt-flow band and must be verified against the supplier’s lot certificate before tool release or production qualification.

Where CYF6410G Falls Between Polycarbonate and ABS in Practical Terms

Unmodified polycarbonate offers higher heat resistance and tensile strength than ABS, but it is notch-sensitive and requires elevated melt and mold temperatures. General-purpose ABS provides lower melt viscosity and easier molding, but its heat deflection temperature and low-temperature impact resistance are lower. CYF6410G occupies the intermediate processing envelope: the melt viscosity at 260 °C is below that of unfilled polycarbonate, while the tensile modulus and heat deflection temperature exceed those of standard ABS. This position makes the grade suitable for enclosures exposed to internal heat from power supplies or passive thermal loads, where ABS can soften, but where the injection pressure and drying demands of polycarbonate are unacceptable. The property envelope is routinely assessed by ISO 527-2 tensile testing on type 1A specimens and ISO 180/1A notched Izod impact testing at 23 °C and −30 °C.

Before molding, CYF6410G must be dried in a desiccant dryer with a supply air dew point of −30 °C to −40 °C. Typical drying conditions for unfilled PC/ABS in this processing band are 80–100 °C for 3–4 h, producing residual moisture below 0.02 % when measured by ISO 15512-1:2019 method A. On a production-scale desiccant hopper dryer rated near 90 kg/h dry-air throughput, a common failure mode is short-circuiting of air flow through the material bed. The dryer outlet dew point may remain within specification while localized moisture pockets persist in the granulate. Molded parts from under-dried material exhibit splay, silver streaks, and reduced weld-line strength. At shop-floor relative humidity above 60 %, open storage of regrind or virgin granulate should be limited to 30 min or less before drying. Regrind from sprues and runners can be reintroduced at a maximum ratio of 20 % by weight for non-appearance components; higher regrind fractions lower notched impact strength and increase color shift. Injection screws with L/D from 20:1 to 22:1 and compression ratios between 2.0:1 and 2.5:1 are used for unfilled PC/ABS, while glass-reinforced variants require wear-resistant barrel and screw coatings.

What Is the Difference in Flow, Impact, and Heat Performance Against ABS and Polycarbonate?

The following matrix summarizes the representative property envelope for an unfilled PC/ABS injection-molding grade of the CYF6410G class, compared with general-purpose ABS and unfilled polycarbonate. The ranges are not lot-specific guarantees for CYF6410G; they represent the normal band for compounds of the same polymer class when tested according to the cited methods. Release decisions require the Shenzhen Chenyufeng certificate of analysis.

Runner and gate design for CYF6410G should follow PC/ABS-specific practices rather than ABS practices. Gates should be located in thicker sections and oriented to avoid jetting. For thin-wall parts below 2.0 mm nominal wall thickness, gate land length should not exceed 1.0 mm. Hot-runner manifolds with externally heated nozzles and no dead spots are preferred because melt residence time at 250–270 °C longer than 6 min can initiate polycarbonate chain scission, surface splay, and loss of notched impact. On an injection molding machine with clamp force near 1,200 kN, barrel shot-size utilization is typically maintained between 50 % and 70 % to limit thermal history. Melt temperature is normally set at 240–270 °C, with the rear zone reduced to 230–250 °C and the nozzle held at 250–260 °C. Mold temperature is typically 60–80 °C for unfilled PC/ABS; lower mold temperatures reduce cycle time but also diminish weld-line strength and gloss. Excessive shear above approximately 1,000 s⁻¹ can raise melt temperature locally and produce surface haze. Where the suffix G indicates glass-fiber reinforcement, the molding window shifts upward: melt temperature increases by 10–20 °C, mold temperature rises to 80–100 °C, and notched impact decreases while flexural modulus increases. The filler system should be confirmed from the supplier’s technical data sheet.

Compared with flame-retardant PC/ABS grades containing phosphate ester or silicone-based additives, CYF6410G should not be assumed to carry a UL 94 V-0 classification unless the yellow card specifies the exact production thickness. Flame-retardant packages commonly reduce heat deflection temperature and tensile strength relative to non-FR PC/ABS. Compared with high-flow PC/ABS grades with melt volume-flow rates above 25 cm³/10 min, CYF6410G-class materials retain higher notched Izod impact at −30 °C but require higher fill pressure for thin-wall parts. Compared with low-flow PC/ABS sheet extrusion grades, the injection-molding-oriented flow band of CYF6410G reduces molded-in stress in complex multi-gate tools but may require narrower residence-time control.

When CYF6410G Is Exposed to Chemical and Thermal Stress in Service

PC/ABS moldings under external stress are susceptible to environmental stress cracking when exposed to aromatic hydrocarbons, ketones, esters, and low-molecular-weight amines. Molded-in stress in CYF6410G components should be evaluated by ASTM D543 immersion testing or solvent-screening with n-propyl acetate before release for applications involving industrial cleaners or assembly lubricants. Continuous service temperature under mechanical load should not exceed 60–70 °C for unfilled PC/ABS without a supplementary thermal aging program; short-term excursions to 90–100 °C are possible in unstressed parts when the heat deflection limit is not exceeded. For outdoor applications, UV stabilization must be specified separately because polycarbonate surface gloss and impact resistance deteriorate under ISO 4892-2 accelerated weathering when no UV absorber package is present.

CYF6410G is used in thin-wall electronic enclosures, internal brackets for office automation equipment, appliance control-panel surrounds, and automotive interior trim substrates. In information technology equipment, enclosure compatibility is assessed under IEC 62368-1 for fire enclosure requirements, creepage, and clearance; the final wall thickness used for UL 94 classification must match the production part. For automotive interior applications, the grade may require low volatile organic compound and fogging performance, evaluated by VDA 278 and DIN 75201. Published data for CYF6410G under those specific protocols should be requested from the supplier. In power tool housings, the alloy is selected over ABS for low-temperature impact at −20 °C and over polycarbonate for lower injection clamp-force requirements during molding.
