Application of Shenzhen Chenyufeng ABS CYF022G

Where CYF022G Replaces Filled PP in Non-Visible Structural Interior Trim

ABS CYF022G from Shenzhen Chenyufeng is directed to lower instrument panel substrates, glove box bins, and console side covers where dimensional tolerance under cabin heat soak is the controlling requirement rather than Class A surface appearance. Pre-drying of the virgin resin is performed in desiccant dryers with a dew point below -40 °C, a drying temperature of 80 °C, and a residence time of 2–4 h to a residual moisture content below 0.1 %; failure to dry produces splay on grained surfaces and weakens knit lines at boss intersections. Injection moulding of CYF022G in this segment uses a melt temperature of 230–250 °C, a mould temperature of 40–60 °C, and cavity pressure above 60 MPa to reproduce grain texture and minimise sink marks at rib-to-boss junctions. The barrel is a three-zone reciprocating screw with L/D 20:1–24:1 and compression ratio 2.0:1–2.5:1; clamp force is selected from 2,500 kN to 6,000 kN according to the projected area of the cavity set. The feedstock formulation uses 100 phr CYF022G, a carbon black masterbatch at 2.0–3.5 wt%, and a closed-loop regrind fraction not exceeding 20 wt%; higher regrind ratios raise melt volume-flow rate and increase the incidence of short shots in thin ribs below 1.5 mm. Combustibility of finished interior trim is assessed according to FMVSS 302 and ISO 3795 with a horizontal burn rate below 100 mm/min for components above the instrument panel scuff line; VOC and FOG emissions are screened using VDA 278 thermal desorption, although published data for CYF022G-specific emissions in full laminate constructions is limited. Terminal part types include glove box inner and outer shells, driver-side knee bolster covers, lower steering column shrouds, and centre console side panels.

Can CYF022G Maintain Gloss Uniformity After Alkaline Cleaning in Domestic Appliance Housings?

In domestic appliance housings such as vacuum cleaner bodies and washing machine top panels, CYF022G is applied where repeated exposure to alkaline cleaning agents and high humidity can alter the micro-texture of the surface. The grade is moulded in high-gloss tools with SPI A-2 to A-3 finish; melt temperature is normally limited to 220–245 °C to reduce yellowing during hot-runner residence times above 6 min, and mould temperature is maintained at 50–70 °C. A drift of more than ±5 °C in mould temperature shifts gloss at flow-front meeting points and produces visible banding on dark colours, so mould temperature control units with flow monitoring are used on the B-side. The formulation uses 100 phr CYF022G, an ABS-compatible colour masterbatch at 2.0–4.0 wt%, and, only where dust accumulation is a known field issue, an internal antistatic package at 0.5–1.5 wt%; the antistatic addition should be validated because it can lower notched Izod impact measured by ISO 180/1A and increase moisture uptake measured under ISO 62 at 85 % RH. Chemical resistance to dilute alkaline cleaners is evaluated by ISO 2812-1 spot tests using 1 wt% sodium carbonate solution for 24 h, with no visible loss of gloss. Safety compliance follows IEC 60335-1 Clause 30.2 for resistance to heat and fire, with glow-wire ignition temperature of 850 °C where specified for unattended appliances, lower-risk components may use 650 °C, and UL 94 HB at the nominal wall thickness of 2.0–2.5 mm; material-level documentation includes RoHS 2011/65/EU and REACH Annex XVII restrictions. Production is carried out on hot-runner injection moulding cells with sequential valve gating to move weld lines to low-visibility regions; gas-vent inserts of 0.02–0.04 mm depth are placed at last-fill areas because ABS volatiles can cause burn marks on high-gloss parts. Terminal products include vacuum cleaner body shells, air purifier front panels, washing machine dispenser fronts, and control panel frames.

Router Bottom Shells, Set-Top Box Enclosures, and the UL 94 HB Wall-Thickness Boundary

Where a balance of rigidity, screw boss retention, and cost below flame-retardant ABS is required, CYF022G enters data and office equipment enclosures. Incoming melt volume-flow rate is tested according to ISO 1133-1:2022 at 220 °C/10 kg for batch control, and tensile modulus is characterised by ISO 527-2. The grade is injection moulded into router bottom shells and printer side panels at melt temperatures between 225 °C and 250 °C, with mould temperature between 40 °C and 65 °C; wall thickness in ribbed areas is held at 2.0–2.5 mm to avoid sink and stay within the UL 94 HB thickness limit used for enclosure evaluation. The formulation ratio is 100 phr CYF022G, with a colorant masterbatch at 2.0–3.0 wt%; if internal electrostatic discharge protection is specified, a conductive carbon black concentrate is added as a separate compounded material rather than dry blended, because inconsistent let-down ratios can shift surface resistivity by several orders of magnitude. CYF022G itself is not an inherently static-dissipative grade. Regulatory coverage includes IEC 62368-1 for information technology and audio/video equipment, UL 94 HB at the finished part thickness, and RoHS 2011/65/EU plus REACH SVHC screening. Where UL 94 V-0 at 1.5 mm is specified, unfilled CYF022G is normally not used; a pre-compounded flame-retardant ABS is selected instead. The manufacturing process is multi-cavity cold-runner injection moulding; hot-tip gating from the rear face prevents gate blush on the visible top surface, and clamp force is selected from 1,500 kN to 4,000 kN depending on projected area. Terminal finished part types include set-top box lower shells, router base housings, printer side panels, and office automation cover elements.

In toy construction elements and board game components, CYF022G is selected because melt flow stability across multi-cavity tools determines whether interlocking blocks maintain consistent snap force after repeated assembly. The material is processed near the low end of the ABS melt range, 210–240 °C, to minimise polymer degradation in hot-runner systems with long residence time; mould temperature is maintained at 30–50 °C because high gloss and low residual stress are both required for parts with thin snap-fit beams of 0.8–1.2 mm nominal thickness. The formulation consists of 100 phr CYF022G and an organic or inorganic pigment masterbatch at 2.0–3.0 wt%; plasticisers are excluded because they can raise the migration risk under EN 71-3 and ASTM F963 extraction tests. Migration testing under EN 71-3 uses 0.07 M hydrochloric acid at 37 °C for 2 h to simulate gastric extraction, with limits for antimony, arsenic, barium, cadmium, chromium, lead, mercury, and selenium. Compliance for children's articles also includes EU 2009/48/EC Toy Safety Directive and REACH Annex XVII restrictions for phthalates and heavy metals; finished parts are subjected to small-parts and use-and-abuse requirements under EN 71-1 and ASTM F963. The production process uses multi-cavity injection moulding with hot-tip gates located on non-functional surfaces; after demoulding, degating and tumbling remove sharp edges that would fail the EN 71-1 edge requirement. Finished components include building bricks, toy vehicle bodies, game tokens, and construction-set connectors.

When Etch Duration Controls Plate Adhesion More Than Impact Strength in Decorative Plating

When decorative bezels and badge carriers are electroplated on a general-purpose ABS rather than a dedicated plating grade, CYF022G is used only after plating-line validation; the controlling variable is etch duration rather than impact strength. The feedstock ratio is 100 phr CYF022G with no regrind or a maximum of 15 wt% clean in-house regrind; higher regrind fractions produce variable surface morphology and reduce peel strength after electroless deposition. Injection moulding before plating uses melt temperatures of 230–250 °C and mould temperatures of 50–65 °C to minimise internal stress that causes plating blisters in thermal cycling; gate location is placed opposite the highest visual surface to avoid gate-induced orientation at the plated face. The plating process chain includes chromic acid-sulphuric acid etching at 60–70 °C for 5–15 min, tin-palladium activation, electroless nickel or copper strike, then electrolytic copper, semi-bright nickel, bright nickel, and chromium topcoats; adhesion is tested by ASTM B533 with a minimum thermal cycling requirement of -40 °C to 80 °C for exterior-grade components. Published data for CYF022G-specific peel strength on production etchant baths is limited; substrate adhesion must be qualified on the actual plating line because butadiene phase distribution, mould surface finish, and etch bath age interact with adhesion more strongly than melt flow index. Environmental compliance for interior decorative parts includes RoHS 2011/65/EU for hexavalent chromium and REACH Annex XVII for chromium trioxide surface residues; plating shops are required to manage chromic acid under local air emission limits. Terminal outputs include automotive interior bezels, cosmetic packaging collars, small appliance trim rings, and badge carriers.

For power tool and bench appliance housings, CYF022G is used only where load transmission travels through screw bosses and surrounding ribs rather than continuous shell surfaces. The material is processed at 230–250 °C with mould temperature between 40 °C and 60 °C; boss outer diameters are specified at 2.0–2.5 times the screw diameter to limit hoop stress, and weld lines around core pins are moved away from high-torque regions by sequential valve gating. The formulation adds 100 phr CYF022G and a colour masterbatch at 2.0–3.0 wt%; if the tool casing requires improved stiffness, a short glass fibre concentrate is compounded at 10–15 wt% glass loading on a co-rotating twin-screw extruder with L/D 36:1–40:1 and separate side feeding to preserve fibre length. Dry blending glass fibre at the injection machine is not recommended because fibre segregation in the hopper creates variable shrinkage and warpage across the cavity set. Safety conformance is evaluated under IEC 62841 for motor-operated hand-held tools and IEC 60335-1 for bench appliances, with UL 94 HB at the final wall thickness and creep resistance validated over 1,000 h at 60 °C using ISO 899-2. The downstream process is injection moulding with clamp force from 2,000 kN to 8,000 kN depending on the tool; parts are assembled with self-tapping screws, so boss geometry and pre-drill diameter are controlled to avoid split-out, but published CYF022G-specific boss pull-out data is limited. Finished components include drill housing halves, bench grinder casings, palm sander bodies, and cable connector shells.

    Certification & Compliance
    More Introduction

Shenzhen Chenyufeng supplies ABS CYF022G as an acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene copolymer grade. The model designation CYF022G identifies the supplier-grade series and should not be interpreted as a specification without lot-specific test data. Published data for this specific configuration is limited; therefore the screening values presented in Table 1 are representative ranges for unfilled medium-flow ABS grades, not guaranteed values for CYF022G. A certificate of analysis from the producer is required before tooling release or production qualification.

The copolymer architecture consists of a styrene-acrylonitrile matrix with dispersed polybutadiene rubber domains. Rheological behaviour and impact performance depend on rubber particle-size distribution, graft efficiency, gel content, and molecular weight of the SAN phase. A grade with melt mass-flow rate near 10 g/10 min will normally show higher low-temperature notched Izod impact than a grade at 25 g/10 min, but will require higher injection pressure and may exhibit greater moulded-in stress. CYF022G should be evaluated by capillary rheometry before processing parameters are fixed.

Table 1. Representative screening values for unfilled medium-flow ABS grades; lot-specific CYF022G values require supplier confirmation.

The ranges above are screening inputs only. Dimensional stability, weld-line strength, gloss, and post-mould shrinkage are influenced by gate design, holding pressure, mould temperature, and regrind fraction. For critical parts, testing should be repeated on moulded specimens from the actual production lot.

How Does CYF022G Compare with HIPS, ASA, and PC/ABS?

When compared with high-impact polystyrene, an unfilled ABS grade of the CYF022G class normally exhibits higher notched Izod impact, better resistance to environmental stress cracking, and higher heat deflection temperature. HIPS economics remain lower, but its impact range is commonly below 10 kJ/m² at room temperature under ISO 180, which limits it for snap-fit housings and load-bearing enclosures. Against ASA, the principal difference is ultraviolet and weathering resistance. ASA replaces the polybutadiene rubber with an acrylic ester elastomer, which reduces yellowing and loss of impact after outdoor exposure; ABS grades including CYF022G should not be used for extended exterior exposure unless protected by paint, capstock, or ultraviolet stabilizer masterbatch.

PC/ABS offers a higher mechanical and thermal envelope. Notched Izod impact values for commercial PC/ABS grades frequently range from 40 kJ/m² to 60 kJ/m² at 23°C, with heat deflection temperature under 1.82 MPa of 110–130°C depending on polycarbonate content. Density also rises to 1.12–1.20 g/cm³, and melt temperature rises above 260°C. CYF022G, if it follows the general unfilled ABS profile, will process at lower melt temperatures and lower cost, but will not match PC/ABS for low-temperature energy management or heat resistance. Against high-heat ABS grades containing alpha-methylstyrene or maleimide comonomer, a standard unfilled ABS typically exhibits heat deflection temperature roughly 10–20°C lower. Without supplier comparative data, exact differences between CYF022G and high-heat or flame-retardant ABS grades cannot be quantified.

For electroplating ABS, the butadiene content and particle distribution are deliberately altered to permit chromic acid etching and electroless nickel adhesion. CYF022G is not specified for electroplating unless validated by the supplier or a plating house using the intended etchant chemistry. Flame-retardant ABS grades formulated to achieve UL 94 V-0 often carry higher density and reduced melt flow because of halogen or phosphorus additive loading; CYF022G should be considered a general-purpose unfilled grade unless supplier documentation indicates otherwise.

When the material is evaluated on an electric reciprocating-screw injection moulding machine of 1200 kN clamp force with a general-purpose screw of 20:1 to 22:1 L/D, the processing behaviour should be mapped before production. Failures observed on such machines with unfilled ABS frequently include silver streaking from wet resin, jetting from undersized gates, burn marks from trapped air, and warpage from non-uniform mould temperature. CYF022G is expected to follow the same failure pattern if mould and melt conditions are not controlled.

Melt Residence Time, Desiccant Drying, and Gate Freeze-Off in Production

Moisture control is the first critical boundary. Unfilled ABS should be dried to a moisture content below 0.03% for injection moulding; extrusion and filament compounding often require below 0.02%. A desiccant dryer with a dew point of -40°C is recommended, with inlet air temperature set at 80–90°C and residence time of 2–4 h for virgin pellet in closed containers. When relative humidity exceeds 60%, pre-drying should be retained even when the material is supplied in moisture-barrier packaging. Insufficient drying produces splay, surface defects, lower weld-line strength, and inconsistent filling pressure.

Barrel settings are normally profiled from rear to nozzle within 200–240°C, with nozzle temperature held between 220–250°C. Melt temperature measured with an immersion probe should remain in the 210–250°C window for general-purpose unfilled ABS. Injection pressure is typically 70–140 MPa, with holding pressure 50–80% of peak injection pressure. Screw back pressure of 0.5–1.5 MPa and screw surface speed of 0.2–0.5 m/s are common starting points. Mould temperature should be controlled at 40–80°C; higher mould temperatures improve gloss and reduce moulded-in stress but increase cycle time and shrinkage variation across ribs.

Gate freeze-off should be confirmed by melt pressure measurement inside the cavity. For a part wall section of 2.5 mm, an edge gate diameter below 50% of the wall thickness may freeze before packing is complete, leading to sink marks and elevated shrinkage. The effective holding time should be longer than the gate freeze time, which is determined by mould temperature and gate thickness. A gate-freeze study using cavity pressure transducers is required before reducing hold time on CYF022G tooling.

For sheet extrusion or compounding into filament feedstock, a single-screw extruder with 24:1 to 30:1 L/D and a compression ratio of 2.0–2.5 is appropriate. Melt pump control is recommended for filament diameter stability. Barrel temperatures should be stacked from 180°C at the feed throat to 230°C at the die. Melt filtration through a 40–60 mesh breaker plate reduces gels and unmelted particles. Regrind should be limited to 20–30% with virgin material and should not contain heat-degraded scrap.

When Barrel Temperatures Exceed 250°C, Degradation Pathways Accelerate

Above 250°C melt temperature, the polybutadiene rubber phase begins to oxidize and crosslink, producing yellowing, brown streaks, and reduced notched Izod impact. At 270°C and above, styrene-acrylonitrile depolymerization and rubber degradation produce volatile by-products, surface splay, and lower melt viscosity. Production equipment should be shut down or purged if melt residence time exceeds 5–6 min at temperatures above 250°C. A melt residence time study should be performed by injecting coloured tracer pellets and tracking purge time to confirm that the entire shot weight corresponds to fresh material.

Heat history is cumulative. Regrind generated from nozzle drool, hot-runner stagnation zones, or repeated drying cycles may already carry advanced degradation. The material should be purged from the barrel when changing from polycarbonate, nylon, or flame-retardant resin to ABS; incompatible residues can produce delamination and nozzle blockage. A cast acrylic or commercial purging compound should be used, followed by the CYF022G production feed. Nozzle temperature should be reduced during extended interruptions to avoid idle degradation.

For regulatory screening, unfilled ABS grades in this class are commonly evaluated under RoHS 2011/65/EU Annex II for lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls, and selected polybrominated diphenyl ethers; under REACH EC 1907/2006 for substances of very high concern; and under UL 94 for surface flammability. The compliance status of CYF022G requires a supplier declaration. Table 2 summarizes the screening categories that should be closed before use in consumer electronics, toys, or appliance housings.

Table 2. Regulatory screening checklist for unfilled ABS grades; supplier declaration for CYF022G is required.
Regulation or standard Evaluation basis Typical status for unfilled ABS
RoHS 2011/65/EU Annex II Restricted heavy metals and brominated flame retardants Compliant in typical unfilled ABS; lot-specific certificate required
REACH EC 1907/2006 SVHC Candidate List screening Supplier declaration required
UL 94 HB Horizontal burn test, 1.5–3.0 mm specimen Typical unfilled ABS passes HB; V-0 requires flame-retardant grade

Handling and storage should follow industrial plastics practice. Store unopened bags indoors at 5–35°C and avoid direct ground contact. Once a liner is opened, unused material should be resealed and re-dried before processing if ambient relative humidity remains above 60%. Waste streams containing CYF022G should not be incinerated at uncontrolled temperatures because styrenic decomposition products require appropriate abatement equipment. Material dried at 90°C for more than 8 h may discolour; the recommendation is to dry only the quantity consumed within the next production window.
