Application of Shantou Xin Yongfa ABS PC 011

For painted interior substrate applications requiring low condensation fogging and stable dimensional tolerance across −30 °C to 80 °C climatic cycling, Shantou Xin Yongfa ABS PC 011 is processed as the unfilled base resin against validated OEM material specifications. Compliance is anchored to VDA 278:2011 for VOC and FOG emission limits, DIN 75201-B for gravimetric fogging condensate below 2.0 mg on a 100 cm² aluminium foil, and the EU ELV Directive 2000/53/EC for cadmium, lead, mercury and hexavalent chromium restrictions; halogenated flame-retardant additives are excluded from the formulation to avoid corrosive condensation on harness contacts. Formulation addition is kept at 100 wt% spray-dried virgin pellets for Class A visible surfaces, while internal non-visible rib structures may incorporate 15–20 wt% plant regrind if the rebound notch impact tested by ASTM D256-23 at 23 °C does not fall below 45 kJ/m². The downstream injection process uses a two-stage reciprocating screw with L/D 20:1 to 24:1 and compression ratio 2.0:1 to 2.5:1, pre-drying at 80 °C for 4.0 h to target residual moisture below 0.02 wt% per ISO 15512:2019, barrel set-points from rear to nozzle of 230–250–260–265 °C, and tool temperature 60–80 °C through segregated water circuits. Severely ribbed tool blocks with clamp force 600–1,200 t require sequential valve gating to eliminate hesitation marks at flow-front convergence; packing pressure 55–65 MPa for 4.0–6.0 s stabilises sink before gate freeze. Terminal products manufactured from this grade in this segment include instrument panel carrier substrates, centre console armrest bases, glove box cassettes, HVAC vent housings, door panel upper trim panels and seat side garnish frames, each post-moulded within 0.15 mm total tolerance before primer and topcoat adhesion. In non-visible regions, elimination of bulk cold slugs is critical because paint cure at 80 °C for 30 min can liberate entrapped volatiles and generate blister defects.

How does outdoor charging infrastructure expose ABS PC 011 to combined UV, thermal cycling and flame-retardant requirements?

Outdoor EV AC wallbox and DC pile peripheral components place conflicting demands on the alloy: the finished part must survive UL 94 V-0 at 1.5 mm without sacrificing processability in large gas-assisted panels. Relevant compliance includes IEC 61851-1:2017 for charging equipment enclosures, UL 746C for outdoor polymeric materials with f1 weatherability rating when not coated, IEC 60529 for system-level IP rating, and REACH Annex XVII restrictions on brominated diphenyl ethers; grade-specific certification for ABS PC 011 should be confirmed on each batch certificate. For non-FR unfilled ABS PC 011, formulation is typically adjusted through a phosphorus-based FR masterbatch at 10–15 wt% and a hindered amine/benzotriazole UV stabilizer masterbatch at 0.3–0.5 wt%, with 1.0–2.0 wt% black carbon masterbatch for outdoor colour retention; if painted or coated surfaces are used, UV masterbatch addition can be reduced after confirming adhesion per ISO 2409:2020 cross-cut class 0 or 1. The production line uses pre-drying at 80 °C for 4.0 h to 0.02 wt% residual moisture, barrel temperatures of 260–280 °C with hot runner manifold set at 250–270 °C, and steel tool temperature 80–90 °C; for a 600 mm × 800 mm panel, valve gate sequencing must maintain fill time below 2.5 s to prevent freeze-off before gas injection at 8.0–12.0 MPa nitrogen and delay time 0.8–1.5 s after end of fill. Peak injection pressure is limited to 140 MPa to prevent flashing at parting line gaps above 0.03 mm. Downstream terminal products include AC wallbox front housings, DC charging pillar inner frames, charge connector shells and cable retainer brackets; each requires post-mould dimensional audit by CMM and ultrasonic weld boss integrity after damp heat conditioning per IEC 60068-2-30. The processing boundary is continuous service above 70 °C; PC/ABS does not provide long-term UV stability at 1.5 mm without coating or adequate stabiliser.

Typical compounding data for outdoor charging enclosure PC/ABS alloys; batch-specific ABS PC 011 values should be confirmed against the mill certificate.

High-gloss diagnostic enclosures under repeated quaternary ammonium disinfection

High-gloss diagnostic enclosures under repeated quaternary ammonium disinfection demand a polymer that resists environmental stress cracking without releasing plasticizer into the clinical environment. ABS PC 011 in this scenario is limited to non-invasive device enclosures, bezels and cart shells that do not contact the patient's mucosa or open wounds; biocompatibility is evaluated on the final moulded plaque according to ISO 10993-5:2009 for cytotoxicity and ISO 10993-10:2010 for irritation where incidental skin contact occurs, while electrical safety of the assembled device follows IEC 60601-1:2005+A1:2012+A2:2020. The formulation is normally processed at 100 wt% virgin resin with 0.5–1.0 wt% medical-grade colorant masterbatch based on a PC/ABS carrier and no external plasticiser or impact modifier, which avoids migration conflict with disinfectant wipes containing 70% v/v isopropanol or 0.1% v/v quaternary ammonium; prolonged exposure at 50 °C and 90% relative humidity must be validated by ASTM D543-21 immersion test for surface crazing. Production is performed in an ISO Class 8 cleanroom injection environment using electric injection units with L/D 20:1 and low-shear screw design; pre-drying at 80 °C for 4.0 h targets residual moisture below 0.02 wt% per ISO 15512:2019, barrel set-points are 250–270 °C, tool temperature is 70–85 °C via pressurised water, injection speed 35–55 mm/s for polished cavity surfaces, and holding pressure 50–65 MPa for 3.5–5.5 s to avoid jetting and gate blush. Mould release should not use silicone-based sprays unless validated for post-mould adhesion to disinfectant-repellent coatings. Terminal finished products include patient monitor front bezels, ultrasound cart exterior panels, infusion pump outer shells, laboratory analyser covers and point-of-care reader enclosures, each with no sharp edge failures under IEC 60601-1 mechanical strength tests. The process boundary is the absence of autoclave suitability: repeated steam exposure above 121 °C causes hydrolytic degradation and surface whitening in this PC/ABS class.

When low-voltage switchgear enclosures require creepage-distance stability and reduced deflection under continuous current heating, ABS PC 011 is processed in thin-wall thicknesses from 1.5 mm to 2.5 mm as a replacement for glass-filled polycarbonate in non-arcing compartments. Compliance references IEC 61439-1:2020 for low-voltage switchgear and controlgear assemblies, IEC 60695-2-11:2021 glow-wire end-product testing at 750 °C for unattended appliances above 0.2 A, UL 94 V-0 at 2.0 mm when the part is classified as a fire enclosure in the end-product standard, and IEC 60068-2-30 for damp heat cyclic exposure. The blending protocol for this segment often uses 100 wt% ABS PC 011 for the main structural body, but for electrostatic dissipative rear covers a 2.0–5.0 wt% antistatic masterbatch is added, taking care not to exceed 8.0 wt% carbon-filled additive because Izod impact at 23 °C measured by ASTM D256-23 declines below 30 kJ/m² and screw plasticising torque rises sharply. Pre-drying is fixed at 80 °C for 4.0 h to residual moisture below 0.02 wt%; injection moulding uses barrel temperatures of 255–275 °C, tool temperature 75–85 °C, peak hydraulic pressure 90–120 MPa and fill time 0.8–1.4 s, because longer fill times at wall stock 1.5 mm produce premature freeze and weld line opening. Gate locations must place flow fronts to merge at low-stress ribs rather than in snap-fit undercuts; gate freeze is achieved at 2.0–3.0 s of hold time to prevent sink opposite bosses. Terminal products are miniature circuit breaker enclosure shells, motor drive covers, HMI bezels, busbar access covers and DIN-rail mounted enclosure bases, all of which are torque-tested at 0.8 N·m to 1.2 N·m on brass inserts without circumferential cracking. The known limitation is that interior air temperatures above 85 °C under continuous current derating may exceed the material's practical heat deflection threshold, and end-product glow wire testing is mandatory even when the raw pellet UL 94 rating passes.

When high-gloss and depth-of-color appearance are specified for robotic vacuum top covers and garment steamer shells

Rapid heat cycle injection moulding of high-gloss appliance surfaces exposes ABS PC 011 to repeated tool-surface oscillation and demands flow-length capability beyond standard ABS while retaining resistance to motor radiant heat. Compliance for this segment is driven by IEC 60335-1:2010+A1:2011+A2:2016 household appliance safety, with UL 94 HB at 1.5 mm accepted for non-fire-enclosure appliance housings, RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU Annex II restrictions, and REACH SVHC candidate list screening for moulded parts exported to the EU. In formulation, 100 wt% virgin ABS PC 011 is common for high-gloss visible shells, while 10–15 wt% internal post-industrial regrind is admissible in non-visible side panels only if tensile stress at yield per ISO 527-2:2012 stays ≥55 MPa and melt-volume rate per ISO 1133-1:2022 shifts by no more than 15% from the virgin lot. The downstream process often uses rapid heat cycle injection moulding with tool surface temperature cycled between 80 °C and 110 °C, which erases flow marks at gloss levels above 95 GU at 60° gloss meter; pre-drying at 80 °C for 4.0 h to <0.02 wt% moisture is mandatory. Barrel temperatures are set at 250–270 °C, injection speed above 120 mm/s for filling 1.2–1.6 mm wall sections, holding pressure 45–55 MPa for 3.0–4.5 s, and valve gates in the centre of visually critical surfaces should be avoided or re-located to hidden boss backs. Terminal products include robotic vacuum top covers, handheld vacuum dust cup assemblies, garment steamer body shells and air purifier front panels; each moulded part undergoes post-cure dimensional audit at 24 h after moulding because PC/ABS contraction continues at up to 0.05% additional shrinkage when exposed to 50 °C packaging storage. The noted constraint is that high-gloss surfaces are more susceptible to sink marks above bosses and wall intersections, so nominal wall transition below 1.5 mm is not recommended.

Thin-wall ICT housings demonstrate the shear-rate limit of ABS PC 011 at 0.8 mm wall stock

Thin-wall ICT housings demonstrate the shear-rate limit of ABS PC 011 at 0.8 mm wall stock, where end-of-fill pressure drop and vitrification define the practical moulding boundary. Compliance in this segment is governed by IEC 62368-1:2018 for audio/video and ICT equipment safety, UL 94 V-0 at 1.5 mm for fire enclosure applications, ASTM D648-18 for heat deflection temperature at 1.82 MPa, and RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU for restricted substances; for telecommunication infrastructure, the final assembly usually requires UL 746C f1 only when the rear cover is exposed to outdoor indirect sunlight. Formulation for ABS PC 011 in this geometry normally uses 100 wt% base resin, but when a halogen-free flame-retardant rating is needed, a phosphorus-based masterbatch at 12–15 wt% is introduced with an accompanying 0.5–1.0 wt% processing aid to compensate for reduced melt stability; low-temperature notched impact after conditioning at −20 °C per ISO 179-1:2020 must exceed 12 kJ/m² to prevent cold-weather shipping fractures. The moulding process is anchored on high-speed injection units with accumulator-assisted fill time 0.5–0.9 s, barrel temperatures 265–285 °C, tool temperature 85–95 °C, and peak melt pressure 150–180 MPa at the gate to sustain thin-wall filling; pre-drying at 80 °C for 4.0 h to <0.02 wt% moisture remains mandatory. Rib-to-wall ratio is held at 0.4–0.5 to avoid sink marks on Class A outer faces, and gate location is moved toward the side edge to prevent jetting in visible grain-retention areas. Terminal products include large-format router bases, 5G small cell back covers, network attached storage housings and server rack bezels. At wall stock below 0.8 mm, short-shot consistency becomes tool-specific and published data for this specific configuration is limited; tool trials should be based on pre-production flow simulation rather than extrapolated resin data alone.

    Certification & Compliance
    More Introduction

Shantou Xin Yongfa ABS PC 011 is a compounded acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene/polycarbonate alloy supplied in pellet form for injection moulding and profile extrusion. The grade combines an ABS phase for processability and a dispersed polycarbonate phase for higher heat deflection and reduced notch sensitivity. Publicly accessible lot-specific documentation for this commercial designation is limited; the numerical values given below are representative ranges for unfilled ABS/PC alloys measured under the cited standards and must be confirmed against a current certificate of analysis before tooling or compliance approval.

Representative density under ASTM D792-20 is 1.10 g/cm³ to 1.16 g/cm³. Melt flow rate at 260 °C with a 5 kg mass under ISO 1133-1:2022 typically falls between 10 g/10 min and 25 g/10 min. Tensile yield strength measured at 23 °C on 4 mm specimens per ISO 527-2 is commonly 50 MPa to 60 MPa, with elongation at break from 20% to 80% depending on polycarbonate content and rubber particle morphology. Notched Izod impact strength per ASTM D256-10 at 23 °C is generally 450 J/m to 650 J/m, whereas general-purpose ABS grades usually fall between 150 J/m and 350 J/m. Heat deflection temperature under ISO 75-2:2013 at 1.82 MPa is typically 100 °C to 120 °C.

The trade name is entered as model ABS PC 011; the “PC” segment indicates polycarbonate modification, and the numerical suffix 011 is a supplier identifier, not an ISO classification. The material is usually packed in 25 kg multilayer sacks, with incoming inspection recommended by Karl Fischer titration or loss-on-drying at 120 °C for 10 min to reject moisture-affected lots. Production batches may vary in melt flow rate by approximately ±2 g/10 min at 260 °C/5 kg; a larger shift should trigger review of polycarbonate feed ratio and screw wear on the compounding line.

What Distinguishes ABS PC 011 from Standard ABS and Polycarbonate Homopolymers?

The practical differences appear in notch sensitivity, heat resistance, and solvent-stress behavior. Neat polycarbonate provides higher continuous-use temperature and ductility, but is susceptible to environmental stress cracking from alkaline mold releases, plasticizers, and certain hydrocarbons. General-purpose ABS provides lower melt temperature and easier color matching, but yields lower heat deflection and reduced low-temperature toughness. ABS PC 011 occupies the intermediate position: it requires a higher barrel temperature than ABS but less severe drying than polycarbonate, and it retains much of the polycarbonate impact signature with reduced solvent sensitivity. Comparative ranges are summarized in the table below.

These ranges are comparative and do not constitute a vendor specification. The actual polycarbonate fraction in ABS PC 011 determines which side of the ranges the lot occupies, and the shift is non-linear. When polycarbonate content exceeds 50 wt%, melt viscosity at 260 °C rises sharply and injection pressure demand increases; when it is below 20 wt%, heat deflection drops toward the ABS side of the range. A mid-range alloy is normally selected when the part must exceed 100 °C under 1.82 MPa but does not require polycarbonate homopolymer.

Drying, Melt Tempering, and Barrel Residence Constraints on Production Equipment

Moisture control is the primary process variable. The polycarbonate fraction undergoes hydrolysis at melt temperature when free moisture exceeds 0.02 wt%. Production-scale desiccant dryers should deliver air at a dew point of −40 °C or lower and pellet residence of 3 h to 4 h at 80 °C to 100 °C. Hopper dryers without desiccant beds are inadequate when relative humidity exceeds 60%. Melt temperature measured at the nozzle should be maintained between 240 °C and 280 °C. For reciprocating screw injection machines in the 80 t to 500 t clamp force range, a typical barrel profile from feed to nozzle is 230 °C, 245 °C, 255 °C, 260 °C, and 265 °C, with reverse-profile adjustment for screws longer than 20:1 L/D. The plasticating screw should have an L/D of 20:1 to 25:1 and a compression ratio of 2.0:1 to 2.5:1. Back pressure of 0.3 MPa to 0.7 MPa is used to homogenize the two phases. Injection pressure demand is normally 80 MPa to 140 MPa depending on flow length and gate freeze time. Mold temperature is held at 60 °C to 90 °C; below 60 °C, molded-in stress and weld-line weakness increase, and above 90 °C, sink marks and cycle-time penalties become measurable. Residence time at 270 °C should not exceed 10 min; longer residence accelerates polycarbonate chain scission and generates surface splay.

Extrusion operations for sheet or profile should use screen packs of 60/80/100 mesh and a gear-pump melt temperature of 250 °C to 270 °C. The melt strength of ABS/PC alloys is lower than that of high-molecular-weight polycarbonate, so drawdown ratios above 5:1 can produce sheet thickness variation. Published data for this specific configuration is limited; line trials are required to set vacuum calibration and roll-stack temperatures.

When ABS PC 011 Replaces FR-ABS or Mineral-Filled ABS in Electrical and Automotive Components

ABS PC 011 is typically positioned for structural enclosures, appliance control panels, electrical housing frames, and interior automotive trim where heat deflection and impact retention after baking are required. In electrical enclosures, the alloy is selected over standard ABS when the part must exceed 100 °C under 1.82 MPa but polycarbonate homopolymer cost cannot be justified. The product is not automatically flame-retardant; if a UL 94 V-0 rating at 1.5 mm or 3.0 mm is required, the current UL yellow card must be obtained from Shantou Xin Yongfa, because no public listing was identifiable for this specific grade. For low-voltage enclosures requiring glow-wire resistance, testing under IEC 60695-2-11 at 750 °C or 850 °C should be conducted on molded plaques rather than inferred from generic ABS/PC behavior.

In automotive interior trim, burn-rate compliance is frequently assessed under ISO 3795 or FMVSS 302; ABS/PC alloys can achieve a self-extinguishing rate below 100 mm/min at a 2 mm thickness when formulated with appropriate additives, but lot-specific validation is mandatory. Odor and fogging requirements should be evaluated under VDA 278 or ISO 12219-9 if the part enters the passenger cabin. Paint-bake resistance at 120 °C for 30 min should be confirmed on corner radii and rib intersections, where molded-in stress accelerates thermal distortion.

Compared with flame-retardant ABS grades, ABS PC 011 generally offers higher ductility and lower density, but requires a higher melt temperature and is more sensitive to alkaline cleaning agents. Compared with mineral-filled ABS, the alloy provides lower density and improved surface gloss retention after 300 h of weathering under ISO 4892-2 cycle A, but lower flexural modulus. The mineral-filled system remains preferable when flatness and creep resistance dominate, while ABS PC 011 is preferable when the design includes snap fits or living hinges requiring high elongation.

Chemical resistance is process-dependent. Molders should avoid direct contact with ketones, esters, aromatic hydrocarbons, and concentrated glycol ethers because these solvents attack the polycarbonate phase and create environmental stress cracks under load. Resistance is typically screened by applying 0.5% strain to a flexural bar and exposing the bar for 24 h to the candidate chemical under ASTM D543-21; cracks longer than 1 mm indicate incompatibility. Alkaline mold-release agents with pH above 9 should be avoided on hot tools because polycarbonate hydrolysis can occur at the part surface.

Paint adhesion is evaluated by cross-cut test ISO 2409:2021; without surface activation, adhesion can fall below grade 3 on a 0 to 5 scale. Flame treatment or low-pressure plasma increases surface energy from approximately 30 mN/m to above 42 mN/m. For in-mold decoration, film carrier resins must be compatible with both phases; polycarbonate-compatible films typically bond better than SAN-only films.

At the compounding stage, co-rotating twin-screw extruders with L/D 40:1 to 48:1 and temperature profile from 230 °C to 260 °C are used to disperse the polycarbonate phase. Poor dispersion appears as irregular gloss bands and variable notched impact across the sheet. The compound should be filtered through a 100 mesh screen pack to remove carburized residues and unmelted PC gels; pressure rise above 2 MPa per 8 h indicates screen blockage or thermal degradation.

Tooling for ABS PC 011 should use direct or fan gates at 60% to 80% of the wall thickness; tunnel gates can produce excessive shear heating and localized phase separation in the polycarbonate. Vent depths of 0.02 mm to 0.03 mm are used at the parting line to prevent burn marks without generating flash. Draft angles of 1° to 2° are recommended for release because the alloy has a higher coefficient of thermal expansion than neat PC. Mold shrinkage under ISO 294-4 is generally 0.4% to 0.7% in flow and 0.5% to 0.8% in cross-flow, depending on wall thickness and packing pressure.

On production-scale lines, the most frequent defects are surface splay from wet pellets, delamination at weld lines from excessive use of external release agents, and color shift in light-colored parts after prolonged barrel residence. Each defect is traceable to a process boundary described above; corrective action is to verify dew point and melt temperature rather than raise injection speed alone.

Food-contact status is not automatic for the compounded alloy; compliance with FDA 21 CFR 177.1020 for ABS or 21 CFR 177.1580 for polycarbonate must be established for the specific colorant and additive package used in the lot. Regulatory status should be confirmed with the supplier against RoHS 2011/65/EU Annex II lead, mercury, cadmium, and chromium VI limits, and the current REACH candidate list. Recycled content, if present, must be disclosed because it affects both food-contact suitability and REACH traceability. The product should be stored in sealed containers at 15 °C to 40 °C and processed within 12 months of manufacture; opened sacks should be re-dried before use.
