SHANDONG DAWN ABS WG-75 is introduced as an acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene terpolymer supplied in pellet form for melt processing. The trade designation does not itself provide a complete specification block under ISO 2580-1; independent technical data sheets for this exact WG-75 grade are limited in public repositories. Grade-specific viscosity, impact, and thermal values must therefore be obtained from the supplier’s certificate of analysis. Where numerical ranges appear below, they are identified as class-typical ABS data drawn from commercial literature and standard test methods, not as certificate values for WG-75.
ABS moulding and extrusion materials are designated under ISO 2580-1 and tested according to ISO 2580-2. A complete specification block includes processing type, Vicat temperature, melt volume-flow rate, notched impact strength, and compositional details. For WG-75, the following matrix is a minimum data-sheet structure rather than a set of measured values. The absence of a published grade-specific number does not imply non-compliance; it indicates that third-party verification is required before release into production.
| Parameter | Test method | Grade-specific value source |
|---|---|---|
| Melt volume-flow rate | ISO 1133-1 at 220 °C/10 kg | Supplier certificate of analysis |
| Tensile yield stress | ISO 527-2 or ASTM D638-14 | Supplier certificate of analysis |
| Flexural modulus | ISO 178 | Supplier certificate of analysis |
| Charpy notched impact | ISO 179-1/1eA at 23 °C | Supplier certificate of analysis |
| Vicat softening temperature | ISO 306/B50 | Supplier certificate of analysis |
| Density | ISO 1183-1 | Supplier certificate of analysis |
| Residual moisture | ISO 15512 | Process control before melt processing |
| Food-contact status | FDA 21 CFR 177.1020 | Supplier lot declaration |
Desiccant drying of ABS-class terpolymers prior to extrusion is not optional at ambient relative humidity above 60%. Generic ABS sheet grades are dried at 80 °C for 2 h to 4 h to a moisture target below 0.1%; drying-air dew point should be -40 °C or lower. Production experience on single-screw extruders with L/D 24:1 to 30:1 and a barrier-type screw indicates that residual moisture produces splay, bubble defects, and embrittlement in extruded sheet. WG-75-specific drying time should be adjusted only after measuring residual moisture by ISO 15512 method A or B. Oven-drying without desiccant airflow may leave moisture in pellet cores even when surface moisture appears acceptable.
Regrind reintroduction is typically permitted at 10 wt% to 30 wt% for sheet extrusion of class-typical ABS, but WG-75-specific regrind tolerance must be established by measuring melt flow shift and notched impact retention under ISO 179-1/1eA. Closed-loop regrind above 50 wt% can lower impact strength and reduce draw-down uniformity. A gravimetric blender with a dosing accuracy of ±1% is standard on production lines when tight pellet-to-regrind ratios are required.
In sheet extrusion, barrel set points for generic ABS sheet grades are typically set in a flat-to-reverse profile from 210 °C at feed to 230 °C at metering, with die zones at 230 °C to 250 °C. For WG-75, published data for this specific configuration is limited; the operator should recover the supplier’s thermal degradation curve before locking a processing window. Processing above 260 °C accelerates release of styrene and acrylonitrile monomers and shifts colour toward yellow. At these temperatures, residence time in the adapter and die should be minimized; class-typical ABS begins to exhibit gel formation and gloss loss under prolonged exposure above 260 °C.
Feed-throat temperature is maintained below 50 °C to prevent pellet bridging. The screw cooling core through the feed section is often set at 60 °C to avoid premature softening. Melt temperature measured by an infrared pyrometer at the die exit should be recorded; if melt temperature exceeds 250 °C, screw speed should be reduced or the barrel profile lowered. Local overheating from high-shear screw elements can create gel flecks even when the average barrel set points remain moderate.
For food-contact applications, compliance is route-specific and not inherent to the polymer class. ABS resins may be formulated to meet FDA 21 CFR 177.1020 for acrylonitrile/butadiene/styrene copolymers and EU Regulation (EU) No 10/2011, including the overall migration limit of 10 mg/dm² and applicable specific migration limits for acrylonitrile and butadiene. Processors must request a food-contact declaration for the specific WG-75 production campaign, because external lubricants, antistats, or color concentrates can alter migration behaviour. A high-gloss thermoformed liner made from WG-75 should be tested for environmental stress cracking in a simulated service medium according to ISO 22088-3; without such data, the material cannot be released for refrigeration applications.
Butter, vegetable oil, and terpene-containing cleaners can act as stress-cracking agents in ABS liners; substitution from HIPS to WG-75 is not justified solely by thermal properties. The forming window for ABS is narrower than for HIPS, and tool plug-assist temperatures usually require adjustment to control wall thickness distribution.
Potential application routes for an extrusion/thermoforming ABS grade of this class include refrigerator inner liners, appliance door panels, luggage shells, and sanitary-ware sheet. These routes require not only the property data above but also line-specific forming tests. For refrigerator liners, the thermoformed sheet is evaluated for thickness distribution, environmental stress cracking resistance, odour transfer, and surface gloss retention. Automotive interior trim applications require fogging data under DIN 75201; no WG-75-specific fogging value can be inferred from the ABS class.
Compared with a high-impact polystyrene sheet grade, class-typical ABS grades show higher notched impact strength under ISO 179-1/1eA, typically in the range 15 kJ/m² to 35 kJ/m² at 23 °C, and higher Vicat softening temperature under ISO 306/B50, typically 95 °C to 105 °C. HIPS sheet grades, by contrast, usually fall between 8 kJ/m² and 15 kJ/m² notched Charpy and between 85 °C and 95 °C Vicat. Against injection-moulding ABS grades, an extrusion/thermoforming grade of this type tends to have lower melt volume-flow rate under ISO 1133-1, frequently below 10 cm³/10 min at 220 °C/10 kg, whereas high-flow injection grades often exceed 20 cm³/10 min. These are comparative material-class ranges from published literature, not measured values for WG-75, and they identify processing route rather than absolute performance.
Against a high-flow ABS injection grade, the difference is not visible in tensile modulus, which typically remains between 2200 MPa and 2600 MPa for both grades under ISO 527-2, but it appears in sag resistance during sheet heating and in die swell stability.
The following table places WG-75 within the surrounding material-class landscape; none of the values are WG-75 certificate values.

Storage should be in sealed silos or moisture-barrier packaging at 10 °C to 30 °C. Extended storage in high-humidity environments above 70% RH requires re-drying before use. Mechanical conveying systems with high-speed bends can generate fines and dust; dilute-phase pneumatic conveying of ABS pellets should keep conveying velocities below 25 m/s to limit angel hair and static charge accumulation. The dust fraction may form an ignitable mixture and requires grounding and deflagration protection under local mechanical codes. Regulatory assessments for WG-75 should include REACH (EC) No 1907/2006 SVHC declarations and RoHS 2011/65/EU restricted-substance screening when the finished article is placed on the electrical or electronic equipment market.
