SABIC ABS GDT2510 is an amorphous acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene injection-moulding grade supplied as cylindrical pellets. The grade is formulated around a grafted polybutadiene rubber phase dispersed in a styrene-acrylonitrile copolymer matrix, giving measurable shear-thinning behaviour without the use of low-molecular-weight plasticising additives. Representative values from supplier technical data place the density at 1.03 g/cm³ according to ISO 1183-1, the melt volume-flow rate at 24 cm³/10 min when measured at 220°C under a 10 kg load according to ISO 1133-1, and the tensile stress at yield at 37 MPa according to ISO 527-2/50. The flexural modulus is reported as 1900 MPa under ISO 178, and the notched Izod impact strength is reported as 29 kJ/m² at 23°C and 10 kJ/m² at -30°C using ISO 180/1A type A notches. These values are typical rather than specification limits and should be confirmed against the latest supplier certificate for the production batch.
Thermal resistance data separate the grade from heat-resistant ABS modifications. The Vicat softening temperature, measured with the B/120 method under ISO 306, is 96°C; the heat deflection temperature under a 1.80 MPa flexural load is 80°C per ISO 75-2/A. These values place GDT2510 below high-heat ABS grades that may exceed 110°C Vicat but above low-flow, general-purpose ABS resins with Vicat values near 90°C. Because the heat deflection temperature is below 100°C, post-mould painting cycles and powder-coating bake schedules above 90°C should be avoided unless dimensional measurements confirm that the part can tolerate thermal relaxation without warp or loss of fit.
For melt processing, desiccant drying at 80°C for 2 h to 4 h is required to reduce pellet moisture below 0.1%. Open pellet containers at relative humidity above 60% allow moisture regain, and surface splay, silver streaking, or gate-area porosity can appear in moulded parts. On reciprocating screw machines, a general-purpose screw with an L/D ratio of 20:1 to 25:1 and a compression ratio of 2.0:1 to 2.5:1 is acceptable; a reverse barrel temperature profile is not necessary. The nozzle melt temperature should be controlled between 220°C and 260°C, and the mould-wall temperature should be held between 40°C and 70°C to promote sufficient surface gloss without excessive ejection force. Injection pressure at the transfer point is geometry-dependent, but thin-wall tools with flow-length-to-thickness ratios above 200:1 generally require packing pressures above 80 MPa and injection speeds above 100 mm/s; published data for GDT2510 across all tool configurations is limited.
Thermal degradation of the polybutadiene phase becomes visible as brown streaks when melt residence time above 260°C is prolonged. A maximum hot-runner manifold temperature of 260°C and a total residence time below 5 min are recommended. When hot-runner volume exceeds 30% of shot weight, a thermal gate shutoff sequence should be used to prevent stagnant melt accumulation. Excessive shear heating in sub 0.5 mm gates may generate local melt temperatures above the degradation threshold even when the barrel set-point remains within the recommended window.
The distinguishing feature of GDT2510 is the retention of ambient notched impact strength at a melt volume-flow rate sufficiently high for thin-wall filling. Low-viscosity plating ABS grades are often formulated with lower polybutadiene content to maximise etching uniformity and flow, and their notched Izod impact values at 23°C may fall below 20 kJ/m²; GDT2510 retains a reported 29 kJ/m². General-purpose ABS grades with MVR values below 10 cm³/10 min may offer higher flexural modulus and creep resistance but require higher injection pressure and produce higher shear heating in thin sections. The lower melt viscosity of GDT2510 also reduces weld-line depth in multi-gate tools because melt fronts maintain temperature for a longer flow interval.
In electroplating and chemical metallisation, adhesion depends on selective etching of the butadiene phase by a chromic-acid or equivalent etch bath to create micro-pores. The high melt flow of GDT2510 does not by itself guarantee sufficient etch pit density; surface skin orientation from high injection speed can alter the etch rate. Peeling of the plated layer should be tested per ISO 19095 or the relevant automotive plating specification. Published data for the etch-rate window of GDT2510 in specific commercial etch chemistries is limited, so production validation on the actual moulded part is required before batch release.

Typical applications include small appliance housings, vacuum-cleaner fascia panels, consumer electronics enclosures, and automotive interior trim that require a Class A surface but do not require a V-0 flammability rating. Surface gloss and distinctness of image are assessed according to ISO 2813 and the relevant OEM appearance specification. For automotive interior parts, odour, fogging, and total volatile organic compound emissions are often specified under VDA 270, DIN 75201, and VDA 277. Published data for GDT2510 specific to these test conditions is limited; therefore, the moulder must generate emission results on the actual production tool and melt-temperature profile.
Mould shrinkage for GDT2510 is reported in the range of 0.5% to 0.8% according to ISO 294-4, with the lower value typically associated with parallel-to-flow measurement and the upper value associated with transverse-to-flow measurement. Shrinkage is anisotropic because the grafted rubber phase relaxes differently from the oriented styrene-acrylonitrile matrix. Tool designers should apply separate cavity scaling factors for flow and cross-flow directions, especially when the part contains ribs, bosses, and abrupt wall-thickness changes. Post-mould annealing below 80°C for 30 min can reduce residual stress but may alter dimensions by an additional 0.1% to 0.3%; published data for the exact dimensional shift in GDT2510 is limited.
Chemical resistance is typical for an ABS terpolymer. Continuous contact with aromatic hydrocarbons, chlorinated solvents, esters, or ketones should be avoided because these media can swell the polybutadiene phase and induce environmental stress cracking. The grade is not a UV-stabilised weatherable resin; outdoor exposure without a UV-protective capstock or coating will cause yellowing and loss of impact within months. When regrind is used, the maximum addition is typically 20% by weight with the remainder being virgin pellets; higher regrind fractions increase viscosity variability and can shift the notched impact value downward. If the material must meet food-contact or medical requirements, the moulder must obtain grade-specific documentation because this product is not represented here as complying with FDA 21 CFR or USP Class VI. REACH and RoHS statements are supplier-specific and should be requested for the shipped batch; published data for GDT2510 alone does not replace a compliance declaration.
