Application of Qingyuan Jiande ABS HR3600-105

Acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene injection grade HR3600-105 is processed without flame-retardant or glass-fibre modification for consumer network equipment lower shells and power adapter enclosures where nominal wall thickness of 1.2 to 2.2 mm is combined with long runner systems, snap-fit arrays, and screw boss clusters. The resin is designated within the ISO 2580-1 family; the exact designation line for HR3600-105 must be obtained from the supplier certificate. Melt mass-flow rate is characterised under ISO 1133-1:2022 at 220 °C and 10 kg before tool design, and the HR3600-105 lot value should not be inferred from class averages. The resin is dried in a closed-loop desiccant dryer at 80 to 85 °C for 2 to 4 hours to reduce residual moisture below 0.1% by weight; higher moisture content produces silver streaks and gate blisters at mould temperatures below 50 °C. Drying temperature should not exceed 90 °C to prevent granule sticking and surface defects on purging start-up. Melt temperature measured at the nozzle is initially set between 230 and 250 °C, with mould surface temperatures of 40 to 70 °C. Material density is approximately 1.04 to 1.06 g/cm³ under ISO 1183-1:2019, and this value is used for shot-weight calculation, cavity balancing, and runner volume estimation. Published data for this specific configuration is limited; the processing range is based on high-flow ABS injection practice and must be verified against the lot certificate and first-article sampling.

Enclosures placed on the European market and used in information and communication technology equipment are assessed under IEC 62368-1:2023 and restricted-substance controls in RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU as amended by (EU) 2015/863; REACH obligations under Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 also apply to supplied formulations. HR3600-105 is not a flame-retardant ABS grade. Standard ABS of this class typically achieves UL 94 HB at 3.0 mm when tested according to IEC 60695-11-10:2013. Finished enclosures may be subjected to glow-wire testing under IEC 60695-2-11:2021 at 750 °C or 850 °C according to the end-product standard; the test is performed on the finished article and depends on wall thickness, internal clearances, and terminal proximity. Where the product specification requires UL 94 V-0 at 1.5 mm, HR3600-105 should not replace an FR-ABS grade unless a grade-specific yellow card or certificate is available from Qingyuan Jiande for the exact formulation.

Tooling layouts for network equipment lower shells use multi-point valve gates or hot-runner tips to reduce weld-line formation at snap-fit retention lugs and screw bosses. Weld-line toughness is measured on notched Charpy specimens under ISO 179-1:2023; values below 10 kJ/m² at 23 °C usually indicate an unsuitable gate position or excessive residence time at high melt temperature. Filling-to-holding transfer is set by cavity pressure sensors at 60 to 80% of short-shot fill, and holding pressure of 60 to 80 MPa hydraulic is maintained until gate freeze. Clamp force is estimated at 0.3 to 0.5 tonnes per square centimetre of projected area for thin-wall ABS housings, with final machine selection based on measured cavity pressure and part projection. Screw bosses should not exceed 60% of the nominal wall thickness, otherwise sink marks appear after cooling. Ejection should occur below 75 °C to prevent post-mould warpage in asymmetric router bottom housings. Table 1 lists starting-point processing parameters for thin-wall enclosures and heavier structural enclosures.

Thin-wall HVAC vent assemblies and interior trim substrates

Heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning vent assemblies, centre console trim, and steering column shrouds made from ABS HR3600-105 are moulded at wall thicknesses of 1.2 to 1.8 mm for louver vanes and bezels, where flow length-to-wall-thickness ratios above 150:1 demand high-flow melt behaviour. The resin is dried at 80 to 85 °C for 3 to 4 hours before processing to prevent moisture splay at pin bases and louver axle holes. A reverse barrel temperature profile is set to reduce thermal degradation: rear zone 220 to 230 °C, centre zone 240 to 250 °C, front zone 245 to 255 °C, and nozzle 240 to 250 °C at screw rotation speeds below 150 min-1 to avoid excessive shear heating. Mould surface temperature is held at 45 to 65 °C for textured surfaces, which minimises visible flow lines and improves grain replication. Packing pressure is maintained between 60 and 80 MPa to compensate the 0.4 to 0.7% moulding shrinkage measured under ISO 294-4:2018. Clamp force for multi-cavity console trim tools is calculated at 0.4 to 0.6 tonnes per square centimetre of projected area because short injection times below 1.5 seconds generate elevated cavity pressure at the gate.

Automotive interior components are validated for flammability under ISO 3795:1989 or FMVSS 302 with burn rate not exceeding 100 mm/min, and for VOC and FOG emissions under VDA 278:2016 or equivalent OEM-specific methods. Emission testing measures thermal desorption of residual styrene, acrylonitrile dimer, and processing oils; migration kinetics of these low-molecular-weight species from the polymer matrix are diffusion-controlled and are reduced by lot-specific polymerisation controls. The grade is not formulated with paint-friendly surface chemistry; painting or chrome plating requires adhesion testing after thermal ageing because retained gate stress can cause pull-off along flow fronts. UV stabilisation is required for upper instrument panel surfaces exposed to direct sunlight; otherwise yellowing occurs within 1500 to 2500 hours of xenon-arc exposure under ISO 4892-2. Tensile yield stress for high-flow ABS class materials is typically 40 to 50 MPa under ISO 527-2:2012 or ASTM D638-14 Type I specimens, and flexural modulus is 2100 to 2500 MPa under ISO 178:2019; these benchmarks are used for snap-fit deflection calculations rather than grade-specific guarantees. Terminal components include louver fins, HVAC bezels, centre console side covers, and upper steering column shrouds.

When does a high-flow ABS grade replace PP in IEC 60335-1 appliance housings?

High-flow ABS is selected over polypropylene in small appliance housings where surface hardness, dimensional stability at elevated temperatures, and assembled creep resistance are required without painting. Typical components include espresso machine side panels, hand blender body covers, and countertop appliance control enclosures. Because the finished appliance is evaluated under IEC 60335-1:2020, stress-relief performance at maximum use temperature is a relevant end-product test. ABS class materials with Vicat softening temperature of 95 to 105 °C under ISO 306:2022 method B50 are generally acceptable when heated surfaces are shielded; direct contact with steam or local continuous temperature above 70 °C should be avoided. The grade is not suitable for oven door handles, kettle bodies, or surfaces adjacent to exposed heating elements unless the thermal design isolates the polymer below its heat deflection temperature under ISO 75-2:2013 method A at 1.8 MPa. Continuous loaded service above 55 °C should be evaluated for creep because high-flow ABS can exhibit lower creep resistance than medium-impact ABS grades.

Household cleaning agents, ethanol-based sanitisers, and isopropanol wipes can trigger environmental stress cracking at gate tabs and sharp internal corners. A screening test is performed at 23 °C in 70% ethanol for 20 to 30 minutes under a fixed strain of 0.5% using ASTM D543-21 or an equivalent jig method. High-gloss housing surfaces are obtained with an oil-heated mould at 70 to 80 °C, a hard-chrome mould insert, and filling screw speed of 50 to 80 mm/s. Silicone-containing release agents are excluded because they create surface energy differences that impair pad printing, laser marking, UV-cured coatings, and adhesive bonding. Coloured compounds are prepared on a co-rotating twin-screw extruder with an L/D ratio of 36:1 to 48:1 and strand pelletizing before injection moulding; direct dry pigment addition at the press is not recommended for uniform colour in appliance surfaces. Terminal articles include blender base covers, kitchen scale shells, and smart-home hub enclosures with 60° specular gloss readings above 95 when measured under ISO 2813:2014.

Handheld cosmetic device shells and electric toothbrush handle sleeves are moulded from high-flow ABS in opaque colours where wall thickness is 1.0 to 1.6 mm and internal undercuts require forced ejection or collapsible cores. The resin is dried for 3 to 4 hours at 80 °C, and melt temperature is kept between 230 and 245 °C to avoid degradation odour that would be noticeable in personal care products. Battery-powered personal appliances are assessed under IEC 60335-2-8 or IEC 60335-2-23 depending on the device type, while the housing material itself is assessed for restricted substances under RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU and REACH. Mint oil, menthol, flavour esters, and phenolic compounds in toothpaste and mouth rinse can initiate stress cracking of ABS under continuous load, particularly at snap-fit undercuts; cyclic conditioning tests with the actual formulation should be run before tool release. Terminal parts include electric toothbrush handle cladding, LED beauty device enclosures, and magnifying cosmetic mirror housings.

If a non-contact diagnostic housing carries no ISO 10993 claim

ABS HR3600-105 may be specified for enclosures of handheld diagnostic readers, non-contact infrared thermometer shells, and desktop analyser front covers when no direct patient-contact claim is present. The material is not certified under ISO 10993-1:2018, and applications involving prolonged intact skin contact or mucosal contact require a medical-grade ABS with toxicological risk assessment and batch-to-batch change control. Electrical medical devices using such housings are assessed under IEC 60601-1:2005 including AMD1:2012 and AMD2:2020, with the manufacturer’s risk management file controlled under ISO 14971:2019. Disinfection protocols typically use 70% isopropanol or quaternary ammonium compounds; repeated wiping can produce stress cracking at snap-fits and threaded inserts. A fixed-strain exposure test at 0.5 to 1.0% strain using ASTM D543-21 and the intended disinfectant is required before design freeze. Moulding shrinkage of 0.4 to 0.7% under ISO 294-4:2018 must be compensated in sensor aperture and lens holder dimensions; conditioning for dimensional stability is performed at 60 °C and 50% relative humidity for 48 hours under ISO 1110:2019.

Sequential valve gating is used to avoid weld lines across transparent sensor windows or lens recesses. Melt temperature is maintained at 235 to 250 °C with mould temperature of 45 to 65 °C; a two-stage injection profile with an initial slow advance prevents jetting, followed by fast filling to avoid short shots in finger-grip features. The cushion is held at 3 to 5 mm to provide consistent packing and to prevent unmelted material entrapment. Screw bosses are designed at 55 to 60% of nominal wall thickness to avoid sink marks on textured outer surfaces. Surface inspection at 1000 lux angled illumination is used to detect sink depth, distortion around sensor windows, and gate blush. Terminal parts include infrared thermometer body shells, handheld diagnostic reader housings, and non-invasive pulse oximeter upper covers.

General compliance categories for the sectors described above are compiled in Table 2; grade-specific regulatory status must be confirmed with the supplier’s supporting documentation.

Office equipment internal structural brackets, printer paper trays, and document scanner side panels are moulded from ABS HR3600-105 where dimensionally stable flatness is required over large surfaces and where polycarbonate is unnecessary. The melt is processed at a screw speed below 120 min-1 to avoid frictional heat and surface yellowing. Mould temperature is set at 40 to 60 °C for flat panels, and cooling time is extended to 25 to 35 seconds for wall thicknesses above 2.5 mm to maintain flatness within 0.3 mm across 300 mm length. For paper tray applications, flexural modulus under ISO 178:2019 is used to calculate deflection under a 500-sheet stack load; high-flow ABS typically provides 2100 to 2500 MPa modulus, but the grade-specific value should be obtained from the supplier certificate. Long flow ribs must not exceed 50% of nominal wall thickness because thick rib sections extend cooling time and create sink marks on the exposed face. Terminal parts include printer paper trays, scanner chassis covers, and internal mounting brackets.

    Certification & Compliance
    More Introduction

Qingyuan Jiande ABS HR3600-105 is an acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene injection-moulding grade evaluated for technical mouldings requiring controlled melt flow, moderate notched impact retention, and suitability for chromic acid etch plating. The designation follows the resin producer’s internal schedule and is not accompanied by a complete English-language datasheet in every distribution region. Published data for this specific configuration are limited; therefore, the class-level statements that follow are derived from ISO 2580-1:2002 designation-block logic, ISO 2580-2 specimen preparation, and standard ABS processing practice, and are not a substitute for a batch certificate. The numeric suffix 105 in the grade is conventionally interpreted as a nominal melt volume-flow rate of 10.5 cm³/10 min at 220 °C under 10 kg piston load, measured according to ISO 1133-1:2022. This interpretation requires confirmation because resin producers may apply different internal flow-code multipliers.

What differentiates ABS HR3600-105 from general-purpose injection grades during rheological specification?

The principal differentiating feature is the anticipated melt-volume flow rate. General-purpose ABS resins used in sanitary fittings or appliance fascia frequently exhibit an MVR of 4–8 cm³/10 min at 220 °C/10 kg; a grade carrying a nominal suffix of 105 is expected to operate above that band, which supports shorter filling times in thin-wall tools and reduced injection-pressure demand in multi-cavity layouts. Under ISO 2580-1:2002, the designation block for ABS injection grades uses melt volume-flow rate, Vicat softening temperature B/50, notched Charpy impact strength at 23 °C, and tensile modulus as the four designatory properties. A full specification for Qingyuan Jiande ABS HR3600-105 therefore requires the supplier’s data block in the form ABS, I, [MVR], [VST], [Charpy], [E-modulus]. The exact sequence and code letters are normed by ISO 2580-1:2002, clause 4. Without this four-field data block, the trade name alone is insufficient for material release.

Incoming resin should be dried in a desiccant wheel dryer with a supply-air dew point not higher than -30 °C and an air flow of approximately 3.5 m³/h per 1 kg/h of pellet throughput, consistent with standard ABS handling practice. Target pellet moisture should remain below 0.05 % as measured by ISO 15512:2019 or an equivalent loss-on-drying method. At ambient relative humidity above 60 %, exposure of open gaylords or silo transfer lines to plant air should be limited to less than 30 min before drying. Class-level ABS guidance indicates drying at 80–85 °C for 3–4 h in a hopper dryer with sufficient residence time; actual HR3600-105 drying curves may require adjustment if the batch certificate reports higher retained moisture after ocean transport.

When electroplating and high-gloss surface quality are specified simultaneously

ABS electroplating grades rely on selective oxidation of butadiene-rich domains in a chromic-sulfuric acid etch bath to generate mechanical interlock for electroless nickel or copper deposition. The plateable behaviour of HR3600-105 is therefore governed by rubber particle size distribution, butadiene content, and injection-induced orientation near the surface. If the grade is assigned for automotive bezels, door-handle surrounds, or sanitary fittings that are subsequently electroplated, the etch cycle must be validated against the incoming lot. A plateable ABS class with an MVR near 10.5 cm³/10 min may produce lower surface stress than low-flow grades but can also show greater flow-line visibility if cavity fill is not balanced. Gloss measurements are performable under ISO 2813:2014 at 20°, 60°, and 85° geometry on polished plaque tools; values are tool-surface-dependent and should not be transferred from textured moulds.

Melt-cushion control, screw-recovery delay, and back-pressure stability are more influential than barrel setpoint alone when running thin-wall ABS in hot-runner tools. For a high-flow ABS class in the 9–12 cm³/10 min MVR band, a melt temperature of 230–250 °C at the nozzle and a mould-wall temperature of 50–70 °C serve as practical starting conditions on machines with a screw diameter of 40–60 mm and an L/D ratio of 20:1 to 24:1. Back pressure should be limited to 0.5–1.5 MPa to avoid excessive shear heating. Residence time in the barrel and hot runner should be kept below 5 min where possible; prolonged exposure above 260 °C promotes butadiene-phase degradation, yellowing, and surface splay. If a hot-runner system is used, the manifold and nozzle setpoints should be profiled within ±5 °C of the nozzle temperature to prevent cold-slug formation at the gate.

Melt rheology, screw geometry, and short-shot prevention in thin-wall housings

Thin-wall electronic housings and medical-device enclosures with nominal wall sections below 1.5 mm require fast filling with minimum gate freeze delay. The expected MVR of 10.5 cm³/10 min reduces the pressure drop per unit flow length, but it does not eliminate the need for adequate venting or gate geometry. On a hydraulic injection moulding machine with clamp force of 1,200–2,500 kN, the projected-area clamp requirement for ABS is commonly 0.5–0.8 tonnes/cm². Injection velocities should be set to achieve a short-shot-corrected fill time of 0.5–1.5 s for thin-wall components; holding pressure is then applied up to 65–80 % of peak injection pressure. The screw should have a compression ratio of 2.0:1 to 2.5:1 and a metering depth consistent with the manufacturer’s plastication capacity. Weld-line strength in plated parts should be assessed by Izod or Charpy specimens cut perpendicular to the weld line according to ISO 179-1:2010 or ISO 180, because flow-front recombination and vent residue reduce local impact performance.

Tensile yield stress and modulus are determined on Type 1A specimens moulded according to ISO 294-1:2017 and tested under ISO 527-2:2012 at 23 °C and 50 % relative humidity after 40 h conditioning. Notched Charpy impact values are reported according to ISO 179-1/1eA on edgewise specimens of 80 mm × 10 mm × 4 mm, with the notch prepared by a 0.25 mm radius cutter. For batch-to-batch comparison, the same test laboratory and same injection parameters must be used because specimen moulding conditions alter skin orientation and impact values. Flexural modulus is evaluated under ISO 178:2019 at 2 mm/min. Vicat B/50 values under ISO 306:2022 are sensitive to thermal history; if HR3600-105 is moulded at high barrel temperatures, post-mould annealing may elevate the measured Vicat point. These mechanical measurements should form part of incoming inspection only when the supplier certificate does not provide designatory data.

Can HR3600-105 serve as a drop-in alternative to heat-resistant ABS or PC/ABS blends?

No single property equivalence should be assumed. Heat-resistant ABS grades modified with α-methylstyrene or maleimide raise the Vicat B/50 value above standard ABS but usually reduce melt flow and increase processing temperature. PC/ABS blends provide higher notched impact and heat-distortion resistance but require higher melt temperatures and predrying to lower moisture levels because of polyester carbonate hydrolysis. HR3600-105's intended position in an injection-moulding portfolio is that of a high-flow plateable ABS rather than a high-heat or low-temperature impact modifier. If the application is a painted interior component with continuous-use temperature above 85 °C, heat-resistant ABS or PC/ABS should be considered only after testing according to ISO 75-2:2013 at 1.8 MPa and 0.45 MPa. The table below summarises class-level differentiation; adjacent-column values are not HR3600-105 release limits.

For EU and North American compliance documentation, the following verification matrix is applied at incoming inspection. The supplier’s statement of composition is required to demonstrate that the product falls within the ABS polymer family rather than a compounded flame-retardant alloy. The batch certificate should report the four ISO 2580-1:2002 designatory values, and the laboratory release records should include the test method designations below. If the material is sourced through a distributor, the distributor must provide upstream traceability to the original production lot to satisfy ISO 9001:2015 clause 8.4 and EU import requirements.

When high-purity surface finish is required, ABS HR3600-105 should not be combined with amine-based mould-release agents, certain halogenated flame-retardant packages, or high-pH hot-handling coolants without compatibility testing, because these additives can accelerate hydrolysis of the styrene-acrylonitrile phase or induce surface blush. Processors should avoid purging with PVC or acetal residues because cross-contamination at melt temperatures above 230 °C creates acidic decomposition products that reduce surface finish and may degrade impact properties. For applications requiring ultraviolet resistance, carbon black, UV stabilisers, or paint must be added; unfilled ABS grades do not carry weatherability claims under ISO 4892-2:2013. If regrind is used, the proportion should be limited to 20 % by mass unless rheological and notched-impact testing on moulded plaques confirms stable property retention. Storage of opened bags should be controlled to 25 °C and 50 % relative humidity, with first-in-first-out rotation to minimise moisture reabsorption.

During incoming inspection, lots should be moulded into standard test plaques on an injection unit with a screw L/D of 20:1 to 24:1 and a clamp force of at least 1,000 kN, using the same melt and mould temperatures applied in production. Five specimens per lot are tested for MVR, Vicat B/50, and notched Charpy impact; the results are compared with the supplier’s release limits and with the three previous batches using moving-range control charts. This procedure detects lot-to-lot drift in butadiene content, molecular mass distribution, and mould-release additive concentration before production conversion. If the MVR shifts more than ±1.0 cm³/10 min from the optimum processing window, the tooling should be re-qualified for short-shot balance, gate freeze time, and plated adhesion using a peel test in accordance with ASTM B533 or an equivalent thermal cycling method.
