Qingyuan Jiande ABS FR3600-J057 is evaluated for injection-moulded electrical distribution enclosure components in which fire containment, dimensional stability after damp conditioning, and creepage-distance retention define the acceptance window. The compound is pre-dried to residual moisture at or below 0.05 wt% in a desiccant dryer with supply dew point not higher than -30 °C, typically for 3 h to 4 h at 80 °C to 85 °C. When moulding miniature circuit breaker covers, terminal shrouds, and DIN-rail enclosure bases, a nominal wall thickness of 2.0 mm to 2.5 mm is maintained because thinner sections increase flame-drip probability in vertical burn testing. Rib-to-wall ratio is held at 0.5:1 to 0.6:1 to reduce sink marks and localised high-shear hot spots that may degrade brominated flame-retardant packages. Melt flow rate is measured under 220 °C and 10 kg load according to ISO 1133-1:2022 for batch release; lot-to-lot variation above ±15% has been associated with fill imbalance in multi-cavity tools. Production experience on 120-tonne to 180-tonne hydraulic injection machines indicates that screw L/D above 20:1 with low-compression feed zones reduces accumulated frictional heat at the screw tip. Melt temperature is confined to 210 °C to 230 °C, and mould temperature is maintained between 50 °C and 70 °C; the lower end of the range is preferred for dimensioned apertures, while the upper end improves knit-line strength. These components fall under IEC 60898-1 or IEC 61008-1 end-product constructions, and non-metallic insulating parts that support live metal parts are routinely evaluated by the glow-wire method of IEC 60695-2-11 at 850 °C. A flame rating of UL 94 V-0 at 1.5 mm thickness is the usual material-certification basis, although specific yellow-card data for FR3600-J057 should be taken from the supplier. Regrind levels above 15 wt% are avoided in this application because repeat extrusion heat history shifts the afterflame time during subsequent batch qualification. The terminal products are breaker covers, terminal supports, and distribution-box bases that require both fire containment and the ability to bear screw clamp loads after thermal ageing at 70 °C.
Power adapter and battery-charger enclosures of small geometry often push wall sections to 1.2 mm around the plug face while maintaining boss heights above 6 mm for threaded inserts. The limiting electrical property is not flame rating alone; comparative tracking index under IEC 60112 determines creepage-distance acceptance when terminals are separated by less than 3 mm on the printed circuit board. Flame-retardant ABS with CTI classified as PLC 2 (250–399 V) in UL 746C supports compact designs, while a PLC 3 material may force larger creepage distances and reduce packaging density. In thin-wall charger housings, the gate land thickness is dimensioned at 0.7 to 0.9 times the adjacent wall, and valve-gated hot-drop entry is preferred to avoid cold-slug burnout from flame-retardant decomposition gases. Amine-based antistatic masterbatches are avoided because they can destabilise the halogen synergist and increase afterflame time. Melt temperature is held at 220 °C to 240 °C; barrel residence time is measured from plastication to injection, and every rejected shot above 5 min is purged to avoid streaking from halogen donor degradation. Colour masterbatch is limited to 2 wt% to 3 wt% because titanium dioxide in white grades can alter burn performance and should be re-qualified by the vertical burn method on moulded plaques at the minimum wall. Fire enclosure compliance follows IEC 62368-1:2023 and Underwriters Laboratories end-product audit requirements, and the material certification file is maintained with UL 94 V-0 at 1.0 mm or 1.2 mm depending on the housing class. Regrind is capped at 20 wt% for non-fire-critical trim, with recovered sprues and runners granulated below 10 mm sieve size and verified for no cross-contamination from high-density polyethylene packaging. The terminal components are wall-mounted USB chargers, AC adapter shells, and small portable power-supply enclosures.

In washing machines, refrigerators, and air-handling units, flame-retardant ABS is used for terminal blocks, motor start capacitor housings, and control-board standoffs where accidental ignition from loose electrical connections must remain localised. The end-product standard IEC 60335-1:2020 Clause 30.2.2 drives the test programme: parts of non-metallic material that retain live connections may be subjected to glow wire at 750 °C, while attended high-current interfaces can be raised to 850 °C. The material should demonstrate glow-wire ignitability temperature above 775 °C under IEC 60695-2-13 and glow-wire flammability index at 850 °C under IEC 60695-2-12 when the design contains current-carrying parts. A UL 94 V-0 classification alone does not replace glow-wire testing because the heating source differs from the open flame of the vertical burn. Processing ratios in this sector are defined by mechanical load, not cosmetic surface: bosses for self-tapping screws are designed with outside diameter at 2.0 times screw nominal diameter, and insert bosses maintain a wall thickness of 3.0 mm around brass inserts to prevent cracking during insertion. Glass reinforcement is not typically blended; the moulder instead relies on the unfilled halogenated ABS package to retain ductility after exposure to plasticiser residues and detergent vapour. The moulder does not independently adjust the halogen donor to antimony trioxide ratio; the compounded package is supplied with the synergist already dispersed, and unapproved masterbatches that alter oxide distribution are rejected on incoming inspection. Regrind is permitted up to 10 wt% only from internal sprues, because unknown post-consumer ABS feedstock may dilute the halogen–antimony synergist ratio and lower the GWIT below the appliance standard threshold. Moulding conditions use a melt temperature of 200 °C to 215 °C to minimise thermal decomposition; mould temperature is 40 °C to 60 °C to enable early ejection without distorting long thin cable guides. The terminal products include control-panel housings, motor-cover brackets, and capacitor enclosures.
Enterprise printer chassis and scanner base frames moulded from flame-retardant ABS require a quality plan that links fire-enclosure output to regrind history, because the end product is regulated under IEC 62368-1 rather than through a simple component-level flame test alone. Production lines for multifunction printers use 350-tonne to 450-tonne hydraulic presses with hot-runner multi-cavity tools that may exceed 8-drop manifolds. In these tools, the material sees variable residence time across drops; manifold channels are sized to maintain shear rate below 1,000 s-1 to avoid local decomposition of the flame-retardant system. The recommended regrind ratio is fixed at 15 wt% to 20 wt% by gravimetric dosing, with lot-specific correlation of regrind percentage to UL 94 vertical burn results on 1.5 mm plaques. Increasing regrind beyond 20 wt% has been shown in production trials to raise the coefficient of variation of afterflame time, making the batch reject rate unacceptable for IEC 62368-1 fire enclosure certification. The selected mould temperature of 45 °C to 55 °C balances flatness across A3 paper-path frames against visible weld lines; sequential valve gating is used to move the weld line away from latch bosses. Drying uses a twin-tower desiccant system at 85 °C for 4 h with air flow not less than 3.75 m³/h per kg/h pellet throughput, because moisture above 0.05 wt% produces splay at the gate and also increases hydrolysis of antimony trioxide carrier resin. Non-flame-rated ABS regrind must not be introduced into the closed-loop system, and amine-based mould releases are excluded because they can increase afterflame time in subsequent burns. The terminal products are scanner base frames, internal power-supply baffles, and paper output trays with fire enclosure status.
For indoor electric vehicle supply equipment, the wall-mounted enclosure and front cover may be moulded from FR ABS where the installation environment is not exposed to direct UV or impact below 0 °C. The material is evaluated for relative thermal index via UL 746B, comparative tracking index via IEC 60112, high-current arc ignition and hot-wire ignition via UL 746A, because terminal blocks inside the enclosure can generate arcs during contactor switching. A CTI of at least 175 V is commonly used as the design floor for printed-circuit standoffs adjacent to live conductors; higher pollution degree 2 paths may require PLC 2 performance. The flame rating is stated at UL 94 V-0 at 1.5 mm or 2.0 mm depending on the manufacturer's yellow card, and no visual flame-out criteria are applied without the standard test plaque thickness. Process settings differ from thin-wall charger moulding because the front cover has ribs and snap-fit features with nominal wall of 2.5 mm; the melt temperature is held at 215 °C to 230 °C, and mould temperature at 60 °C to 80 °C to improve knot-line strength around display window openings. Regrind is limited to 10 wt% because any shift in tracking resistance or arc-ignition behaviour is not acceptable within the product's safety file. No external paint is applied; if colour is required, pre-coloured FR ABS is used to avoid masking the burn behaviour with a flammable coating. Water-soluble coolant contamination must be excluded from regrind because ionic residues can lower CTI below the 175 V design floor. The terminal products are indoor AC wallbox enclosures, charging-controller covers, and cable-entry terminal shrouds.
Power strip and socket faceplate production runs in multi-cavity hot-runner tools expose FR ABS to longer melt residence times, making nozzle and manifold temperature control the primary operational variable. The electrical accessory sector tests socket outlets and integrated power strips under IEC 60884-1; insulating parts retaining current-carrying components are generally submitted to the 850 °C glow-wire test of IEC 60695-2-11. FR ABS selected for this application must also maintain UL 94 V-0 at the finished wall thickness, which in multi-socket strips is often 2.0 mm to 2.5 mm to survive drop and cord-strain mechanical tests. In production, the ratio of regrind is controlled at 10 wt% to 15 wt%, and the runner system is designed as a cold runner instead of a hot runner when colour changes are frequent, because flushing a hot manifold above 230 °C generates black spec from degraded brominated flame retardant. Tool temperature is set to 55 °C to 65 °C; higher settings produce gloss variation on the faceplate and increase cycle time beyond 45 s without improving fire performance. Back pressure is limited to 0.3 MPa to 0.5 MPa to avoid excessive frictional heating of the melt, and injection velocity is profiled to keep flow-front velocity constant through the switch openings. Splay at the gate is controlled by verifying moisture at the hopper is below 0.05 wt% and by maintaining hopper throat temperature below 60 °C. The terminal products are 4-way and 6-way power strips, flush-mount socket covers, and switch plates used in residential and commercial installations.
Cosmetic front bezels for monitors, audio equipment, and set-top boxes still require fire-enclosure performance under IEC 62368-1, but the surface is not painted because thin solvent-borne coatings can act as a secondary fuel load and alter vertical burn results. To obtain a high-gloss finish on flame-retardant ABS without paint, the mould surface temperature must be raised to 80 °C to 90 °C, which is near the upper processing boundary for the brominated package; exceeding 90 °C can increase mould deposit from antimony trioxide and cause surface blush. The moulding ratio in this application is adjusted by the toolmaker rather than the compounder: gate diameter is set at 0.8 to 1.0 times the nominal wall, and the land length is kept below 1.0 mm to reduce shear heating at the gate. Regrind is limited to 5 wt% to 10 wt% because black spec and colour shift become visible on unpainted gloss surfaces before mechanical or flame properties are affected. The end-product colour is achieved with pre-coloured compound rather than masterbatch at the press, since uneven distribution of carrier resin changes local surface gloss and may create visual streaks. Mould temperature is cycled using variothermal regulation: the surface is heated to 85 °C during filling, then cooled to 55 °C for ejection; this increases cycle time but prevents visible weld-line haze. Injection speed is set to produce a flow-front velocity of 200 mm/s to 300 mm/s through the bezel frame, and gas-venting depth does not exceed 0.02 mm to avoid flash on the visible edge. Terminal products are high-gloss display bezels, audio receiver faces, and remote-control bodies that meet the fire-enclosure requirements of IEC 62368-1:2023.

Qingyuan Jiande ABS FR3600-J057 is a flame-retardant acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene injection molding compound intended for electrical and electronic enclosures. The alphanumeric code separates the product family from the variant: the FR3600 segment identifies the brominated flame-retardant ABS platform, while J057 is the manufacturer’s internal suffix covering the stabilizer package, pellet geometry, and base colour. The J057 suffix does not appear in ISO 1043-1:2011 and should not be interpreted as a standardized material symbol. Because publicly accessible third-party test data for this exact J057 configuration are limited, lot-specific values should be verified against the supplier’s current certificate of analysis and the applicable UL yellow-card file controlling minimum flame-rating thickness.
The material is compounded from a styrene-acrylonitrile copolymer matrix modified with a polybutadiene rubber phase. The flame-retardant mechanism depends on a brominated package combined with an antimony-based synergist. During forced burning, the system releases gas-phase radical scavengers that interrupt free-radical propagation, while a partially intumescent char layer reduces heat and oxygen transfer to the underlying polymer. This shifts the material from the UL 94 HB behaviour typical of unmodified ABS to V-0 at the approved wall thickness. The same additive system increases melt density, elevates low-shear melt viscosity, and creates acidic decomposition species if the melt is overheated or held for excessive residence time.
Unmodified ABS is normally classified UL 94 HB at enclosure thicknesses, whereas the FR3600 series is formulated for V-0 at the supplier-certified minimum thickness, commonly 1.5 mm or 2.0 mm depending on the current yellow-card listing. The flame-retardant solids produce a measurable trade-off in tensile yield stress and notched impact. Supplier class values for the FR3600 series place tensile yield stress between 36 MPa and 42 MPa under ISO 527-2:2012, and Charpy notched impact strength between 8 kJ/m² and 14 kJ/m² under ISO 179-1:2010. Melt volume-flow rate is typically in the 18 cm³/10 min to 26 cm³/10 min band at 220 °C and 10 kg load according to ISO 1133-1:2022. Density under ISO 1183-1:2019 is classed at 1.17 g/cm³ to 1.21 g/cm³. These are class-level values and are not substitutes for lot-specific certification.
Compared with halogen-free flame-retardant ABS grades using phosphorus-nitrogen or mineral-based synergists, the brominated-antimony route in FR3600-J057 typically provides a wider injection molding window and better stiffness retention. The principal disadvantages are higher smoke density under forced combustion, more stringent purge discipline because of acidic decomposition products, and potential tool corrosion if melt temperature or barrel residence time is not controlled. Halogen-free alternatives may be selected when end-use specifications require reduced halogen content or lower smoke opacity, but they can exhibit lower flow, lower impact strength, and greater moisture sensitivity.
Desiccant drying at 80 °C to 85 °C for 3 h to 4 h is required before molding. Target pellet moisture before processing is below 0.05 %. When handling-area relative humidity exceeds 60 % RH, drying time should be extended to 4 h to 6 h. Wet feed produces splay, silver streaks, and localised polymer degradation because moisture accelerates hydrolysis of the flame-retardant package at processing temperature. A closed-loop desiccant-bed dryer with dew point at or below −35 °C is preferred over hot-air tray drying.
Melt temperature measured at the nozzle is normally maintained between 200 °C and 230 °C. Above 240 °C, the brominated flame-retardant system begins to liberate hydrogen bromide, which generates black specks, plate-out, and tool corrosion. Total screw residence time should not exceed 5 min at 230 °C. If the cycle stops, the barrel should be purged with high-impact polystyrene or general-purpose polystyrene within 3 min to 5 min. Back pressure of 0.3 MPa to 0.7 MPa and screw speed of 60 min⁻¹ to 120 min⁻¹ assist flame-retardant dispersion without excessive shear heating. A general-purpose screw with L/D 20:1 to 24:1 and compression ratio of 2.2:1 to 2.6:1 is typical for this viscosity class.
Mold temperature should be maintained from 40 °C to 70 °C. Lower mold temperatures may increase weld-line visibility and reduce surface gloss, while higher temperatures reduce residual stress but extend cycle time. In production-scale injection molding, the most frequent defect is not flame-test failure but gas-flame marking at the gate and weld lines caused by insufficient venting and elevated melt temperature. Vent depth should be held between 0.015 mm and 0.025 mm, and parting-line vents should be cleaned every 8 h to 12 h of continuous operation because flame-retardant plate-out progressively seals the vent channels.
In thin-wall parts with wall stock below 1.2 mm, the combined effect of flame-retardant solids and the styrene-acrylonitrile matrix on flow length must be evaluated separately from melt-flow index alone. Flow-path thickness-to-length calculations should use supplier spiral-flow data rather than assumptions from a general-purpose ABS. Molds originally designed for unmodified ABS often require larger gates, additional end-of-fill vents, and a faster injection velocity profile to avoid short shots, burn marks, and excessive gas generation at the flow front. If the mold has a direct edge gate, land length should not exceed 1.0 mm, and the gate should be located away from visible surfaces where gas-flame marking is unacceptable.
PC/ABS blends are selected where impact strength and heat-deflection temperature exceed the capabilities of ABS. FR3600-J057 is intended for applications where V-0 performance at a moderate wall thickness is mandatory, but the continuous load temperature remains below 75 °C to 85 °C at 1.82 MPa when measured under ISO 75-2:2013. Compared with medium-flow PC/ABS, the ABS grade gives lower melt pressure in thin-wall sections, easier paint or adhesive bonding, and better flow in long, flat housings, but it has lower notched impact and lower resistance to aggressive cleaning agents.
If the enclosure includes snap-fit hooks with maximum fiber stress near the yield point, PC/ABS may be safer because of its higher elongation at yield. For screw-boss and ultrasonic-welding designs, the lower heat-deflection temperature of FR ABS is usually acceptable if the heat-stake or welding fixture does not apply continuous load at temperatures above 70 °C. The grade should not be selected solely on the basis of equal UL 94 V-0 rating; mechanical load history, peak service temperature, and chemical exposure determine whether the replacement is technically valid.
Representative class-level values are shown for selection screening and are not a substitute for lot-specific certificates or yellow-card verification.

In power-supply adapter shells, router housings, and appliance control panels, the material is usually molded with wall thickness from 1.5 mm to 2.5 mm. Holding pressure should be maintained until the gate freezes, with typical holding pressure between 40 MPa and 60 MPa and packing time of 3 s to 6 s for a 2.0 mm wall. Flow-direction shrinkage is normally 0.4 % to 0.7 %, and cross-flow shrinkage is normally 0.5 % to 0.8 %. Mold designers should confirm shrinkage with prototype or cavity-pressure data because the flame-retardant additive changes cavity pressure decay compared with base ABS.
When replacing an established ABS grade in an existing mold, verification of pressure drop from the nozzle to the last cavity is necessary. The FR3600-J057 grade may require a 10 °C to 15 °C higher barrel temperature or a 10 % to 15 % increase in injection velocity to match the pressure signature of a non-FR ABS. If the molding machine has a hydraulic clamp below 80 t and the cavity is a multi-gate appliance panel, flash can still occur if the tool is not adequately supported because the high-shear melt viscosity is low; clamp force calculations should be based on projected cavity area and actual peak cavity pressure measured with a cavity-pressure transducer.
The grade is supplied for electrical and electronic enclosure use under end-product standards, not as a standalone flame-rated article. A molded part must be evaluated in the final thickness and colour against UL 94 vertical burning, and the end product should be assessed to IEC 62368-1:2018 fire enclosure clauses where applicable. RoHS compliance should be documented under Directive 2011/65/EU Annex II with respect to restricted polybrominated biphenyls and polybrominated diphenyl ethers. Because the product uses a brominated chemistry, the supplier’s certificate should be retained to demonstrate that non-restricted flame retardants are used. REACH obligations under Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 include SVHC communication under Article 33 and, where candidate-list substances exceed threshold, Article 7 notification.
Material substitution from a general-purpose ABS or a halogen-free FR grade should trigger a formal change-control review. The minimum check list includes melt-flow ratio, tensile yield, notched impact, density, mold shrinkage, flame rating at the thinnest wall, and plate-out behaviour during a 500-cycle trial. Without this step, differences in low-shear viscosity and char formation can appear only during production or after field failures. Published data for this specific J057 configuration remain limited; therefore, each incoming lot should be verified for melt flow, moisture content, and flame-rating consistency before release.
Post-mold moisture regain in FR ABS can reduce the reliability of ultrasonic welding, heat staking, and painting. If parts are removed from the molding cell and stored at 23 °C and 50 % RH, they may regain 0.08 % to 0.12 % moisture within 24 h to 48 h. Parts intended for ultrasonic welding or lacquering should be packaged in sealed polyethylene bags or conditioned in a dry atmosphere below 30 % RH until the secondary operation. The grade is not recommended for continuous exposure to hot water above 60 °C, strong alkaline cleaners, or outdoor ultraviolet exposure without UV-stabilisation because the butadiene rubber phase undergoes embrittlement and the flame-retardant system can be extracted by aggressive media.
Thermal aging in the dark at 70 °C for 7 days typically produces minor surface yellowing but no loss of V-0 performance if part thickness remains unchanged. Above 85 °C continuous service, creep and modulus loss should be evaluated before selecting this ABS grade; heat-resistant FR ABS or PC/ABS grades may be required.
The grade is used for power adapter shells, home-network equipment, consumer appliance control enclosures, and small electrical junction boxes where the fire-rating request is UL 94 V-0 at 1.5 mm and the mechanical load is dominated by static assembly rather than repeated drop impact. In drop-test programmes, parts molded from FR ABS typically show brittle fracture at corners if the wall thickness is below 1.5 mm; adding corner radii of at least 1.5 mm and avoiding sharp gate vestiges reduces failure frequency. The processing window is narrower than that of unmodified ABS, but with proper drying, venting, and residence-time control the material can be converted on standard injection molding equipment for low- to medium-load enclosure applications.
