As an accredited Pulite ASA factory, we enforce strict quality protocols—every batch undergoes rigorous testing to ensure consistent efficacy and safety standards.
| Packing | Pulite ASA is typically supplied in 200 kg chemical-resistant drums, securely sealed and labelled for safe transport and storage. |
| Container Loading (20′ FCL) | Pulite ASA is palletized, shrink-wrapped, and securely loaded in a 20-foot FCL container for ocean shipment. |
| Shipping | Pulite ASA is usually supplied in sealed, moisture-resistant drums, IBCs, or bulk tanks and must be kept dry and protected from temperature extremes. For shipment, follow the current SDS; if classified as corrosive, use UN3265, Class 8, PG III, with proper labels and paperwork. |
| Storage | Store Pulite ASA in a cool, dry, well-ventilated, fire-resistant area away from heat, ignition sources, sunlight, and oxidizing agents. Keep containers tightly closed and protected from moisture/water, as ASA hydrolyzes on contact. Avoid freezing and excessive heat; maintain the supplier-recommended temperature. Use secondary containment and keep away from acids, bases, alcohols, and amines. |
| Shelf Life | Pulite ASA has a shelf life of about six months when stored dry in its original, unopened container at recommended temperatures. |
In injection molding plants running clamping forces from 2,000 kN to 15,000 kN, Pulite ASA is processed into cowl vent grilles, side mirror housings, A-pillar covers, and tailgate trim without in-mold painting. Drying in a desiccant dryer at 80–90 °C for 4–6 h reduces residual moisture below 0.02 wt% as determined by ISO 15512 Method A. Melt temperature is maintained at 240–260 °C, while mold surface temperature is held at 60–80 °C using pressurized water or oil thermolators. On a 100 mm single screw with L/D 30:1 and compression ratio 2.5:1, barrel temperatures from rear to front are 210, 220, 230, 240 °C; hot runner manifold and nozzle are kept at 235–245 °C. Injection velocity is set to 80–120 mm/s with hydraulic pressure from 80 MPa to 120 MPa, holding pressure from 50 MPa to 70 MPa, and back pressure from 1 MPa to 2 MPa. Dimensional stability after molding is controlled by gate location and post-mold shrinkage of 0.4–0.6% along flow and 0.5–0.7% across flow, measured according to ISO 294-4. For cowl vent grilles, wall thickness is 2.0–3.0 mm; ribs are designed to 0.6–0.8 times nominal wall to suppress sink marks. Mold draft angle is 1.0–1.5° on textured surfaces to prevent ejection drag. Weld lines at openings reduce notched Charpy impact by 40–60% relative to neat resin, so gates are placed to relocate knit lines away from high-load mounting bosses.
Conformity for automotive exterior trim is verified with SAE J2527 exposure at 2500 kJ/m² at 340 nm or ISO 4892-2 Cycle 1 for 3000 h with 0.35 W/m² at 340 nm and black panel temperature 65 °C; acceptable color shift per ASTM D2244 is typically ΔE ≤ 3.0 with 60° gloss retention at or above 70%. Tensile yield strength under ISO 527-2 at 50 mm/min is 40–50 MPa, elongation at break is 10–25%, flexural modulus under ISO 178 at 2 mm/min is 2000–2500 MPa, notched Charpy impact under ISO 179-1/1eA is 10–25 kJ/m² at 23 °C and 4–8 kJ/m² at -30 °C. Automotive grades typically incorporate 0.2–1.0 wt% UV absorber, 0.3–1.5 wt% pigment, and 0.1–0.5 wt% process stabilizer. Terminal products include cowl vent grilles that must tolerate intermittent under-hood temperatures up to 95 °C and outdoor UV exposure without primer or topcoat. The operational boundary is narrow: melt temperatures above 265 °C for more than 10 min produce visible yellowing and a notched impact drop below 6 kJ/m²; barrel residence time should remain below 8 min, and drying above 90 °C should not exceed 4 h.
Coextrusion of ASA capstock over rigid PVC window profiles, siding, and fascia boards is constrained by interfacial melt viscosity mismatch and die pressure fluctuations. The ASA layer is typically 0.15–0.25 mm on profiles and 0.10–0.15 mm on siding, with total profile wall thickness between 1.5 mm and 3.0 mm. ASA capstock is dried at 80–90 °C for 4–6 h to below 0.02 wt% moisture, then fed to a dedicated extruder with L/D 30:1, barrier screw, melt pump, and screen pack. Melt temperature for ASA is set at 210–230 °C for low-shear coextrusion; the rigid PVC substrate is processed at 180–200 °C with a stabilizer package appropriate for the selected profile line. Melt viscosity mismatch is managed by selecting an ASA grade with melt volume-flow rate of 3–7 cm³/10 min at 220 °C/10 kg per ISO 1133-1:2022; MVR above 10 cm³/10 min reduces melt strength and causes layer thickness oscillation below 0.12 mm. Die geometry uses a coextrusion feedblock or multi-manifold coat-hanger die with land length 20–30 times lip gap; the ASA layer gap is 0.3–0.6 mm to account for drawdown. Vacuum calibration with gauge accuracy of ±0.05 mm holds profile dimensions at line speeds of 1.5–5.0 m/min. The limiting factor is draw resonance and edge thinning: above 5.0 m/min, thickness variation exceeds ±0.05 mm and local ASA thickness drops below 0.08 mm, causing gloss streaks and reduced impact.
Outdoor retention is validated under ISO 4892-2 Cycle 1 with 0.35 W/m² at 340 nm, black panel temperature 65 °C, and 18 min water spray per 102 min cycle. After 3000 h, color shift per ASTM D2244 should remain at ΔE ≤ 2.5, and 60° gloss retention should exceed 70%. Impact after weathering is checked by falling weight per ISO 6603-2; profile must retain at least 60% of initial energy absorption. Raw material formulation includes 95.0–98.5 wt% ASA, 1.0–3.0 wt% UV stabilizer package, 0.5–1.5 wt% titanium dioxide or inorganic pigment, and 0.2–0.8 wt% process lubricant. Terminal products are window profiles and exterior cladding evaluated for impact and weathering under EN 12608-1 for PVC-U profile systems, or siding under ASTM D3679 for rigid PVC siding substrates. Published data for specific ASA/PVC interfacial adhesion beyond 10-year natural weathering is limited; accelerated tests are used to establish capstock adhesion and layer continuity after thermal cycling from -20 °C to 60 °C at 50 cycles.
Processing boundaries include a maximum ASA melt stock temperature of 250 °C to avoid pre-crosslinking at the PVC interface; the rigid PVC melt must not exceed 200 °C, and dwell time in the coextrusion adaptor should be less than 4 min. Moisture regain above 0.03 wt% after drying, especially at relative humidity above 60%, produces surface splay and pinholes in the capstock. The coextruded profile is cooled in calibration tools with water temperature held at 15–25 °C; higher cooling water temperature causes matte patches, while lower temperature increases freeze-off risk at the die lip.
Electrical enclosures installed at coastal or high-UV sites are injection molded from Pulite ASA when painted ABS fails under combined ultraviolet and wet exposure. Enclosure bodies are molded at melt temperature 240–260 °C, mold temperature 60–80 °C, and wall thickness 2.5–4.0 mm. Ribs are held to 0.6–0.8 times nominal wall, corner radii are at least 0.5 mm, and draft angle is 1.0–1.5° on hidden faces. Gates are placed close to thick sections to reduce sink marks, and projected area clamp force is calculated at 50–120 kN/m². Screw L/D is 20:1 to 24:1 with compression ratio 2.0–2.5:1; shot size should fill 40–70% of barrel capacity to hold residence time below 6 min. Post-mold shrinkage is 0.4–0.7% per ISO 294-4, and flatness on sealing surfaces is checked with a granite plate and feeler gauge limit of 0.3 mm over 300 mm. Gasket grooves are machined or molded with depth tolerance ±0.1 mm to maintain ingress protection.
| Standard/Test | Conditions | Acceptance Limit |
|---|---|---|
| UL 746C F1 | 1000 h UV/condensation, 7 d water immersion at 70 °C | Minimum impact and flame retention per standard clause |
| UL 94 HB | 3.0 mm specimen | Burn rate ≤ 40 mm/min and no glowing to clamp |
| IEC 60529 IP65 | Dust tight, water jet 12.5 L/min at 30 kPa from 3 m | No dust deposit, no water ingress |
| IEC 62208 | Empty enclosure tests, mechanical impact | IK rating specified by assembly |
| ISO 4892-2 Cycle 1 | 3000 h, 0.35 W/m² at 340 nm, 65 °C BPT | ΔE ≤ 3.0, gloss retention ≥ 70% |
The outdoor electrical enclosure compound may leave the base ASA formulation unmodified for UL 94 HB end-use, or it may contain 10–20 wt% flame-retardant package for UL 94 V-0 at 3.0 mm; flame-retardant loadings generally reduce ultraviolet stability and require separate UL 746C F1 testing in the final color and wall thickness. Black and dark gray enclosures achieve outdoor listings more readily than bright reds or yellows because stabilizer loading and pigment absorption interact. Terminal products include distribution boxes, disconnect switch enclosures, outdoor low-voltage switchgear shells, and traffic control cabinets. The process boundary is long holding pressure time at thick bosses: holding times above 12 s can increase sink depth beyond 0.02 mm on flat sealing surfaces, while early pressure release produces voids at boss-to-wall junctions.
Replacing painted ABS in pool pump housings, spa cabinet side panels, filter housings, and skimmer covers with Pulite ASA changes the environmental stress cracking resistance profile in chlorinated water. The resin is dried at 80–90 °C for 4–6 h; melt temperature is 230–250 °C, mold temperature is 60–80 °C, and injection speed is 60–100 mm/s. Components are designed with wall thickness 2.0–3.5 mm and no sharp internal corners below 0.5 mm to avoid stress concentrations. Chemical resistance is checked according to ISO 175 by immersion at 23 ± 2 °C for 7 days in water containing 3 mg/L free chlorine at pH 7.2–7.6. Retention of tensile strength after immersion should be at least 90% of the original ISO 527-2 value; notched Charpy impact under ISO 179-1/1eA should remain at least 8 kJ/m². Pool and spa components are also exposed to UV and heat; testing under ISO 4892-2 Cycle 1 for 2000 h is used for dark gray and black spa panels, with ΔE ≤ 3.0 per ASTM D2244 and no surface blooming.
During production, hot runner systems with thermal gates are preferred over valve gates because ASA has a relatively narrow processing window: melt temperature above 260 °C increases the risk of surface silver streaking, while below 225 °C mold filling of thin ribs below 2.0 mm leads to short shots. The amorphous polymer exhibits shrinkage of 0.4–0.7% per ISO 294-4, and spa panels with 800 mm × 300 mm projected area require 2,000–3,000 kN clamp force. Gas counterpressure is not required. Post-molded parts are annealed at 80 °C for 2 h only when machining or ultrasonic welding is planned, to relax molded-in stress. Ultrasonic welding parameters for ASA spa panels require amplitude of 20–30 µm, frequency 20 kHz, and trigger force 0.3–0.5 kN; insufficient amplitude produces cold welds at energy director apex. Snap-fit brackets are designed with deflection length above 5 mm and strain below 1.5% to prevent stress whitening after repeated assembly.
Terminal parts include spa skirt sections with snap-fit brackets and pump covers with gasket grooves. The published data for long-term exposure to shock chlorination above 10 mg/L free chlorine is limited; the resin is not recommended for continuous immersion in chlorinated water above 5 mg/L at 60 °C without part-specific validation. Avoid ketone or aromatic hydrocarbon cleaning agents because they cause softening and stress cracking; use only dilute soap solution or isopropanol at room temperature for surface cleaning.
Outdoor power equipment used in gardening and landscaping, such as battery-operated hedge trimmer housings, electric leaf blower shrouds, and charging station enclosures, places simultaneous demands on UV stability, low-temperature impact, and dimensional accuracy. With ASA, the injection molding cell runs a melt temperature of 240–255 °C, a mold temperature of 70–80 °C, and a clamp force calculated from 60 MPa cavity pressure multiplied by projected area, with minimum bed size sufficient for 1.5 mm/m flatness deviation control. The material is pre-dried to below 0.02 wt% moisture. Screws with L/D 24:1 and a non-return valve are used; shot size should fill 40–70% of barrel capacity to limit residence time to less than 6 min. The housing walls are 2.5–3.5 mm thick; bosses for self-tapping screws are cored to 0.6 times wall with 1.5° draft. Mold temperature uniformity must be within ±5 °C across the cavity to prevent differential shrinkage of 0.4–0.6% and warping of long housing halves beyond 0.3 mm per 100 mm length.
Low-temperature ductility is measured by ISO 179-1/1eA notched Charpy at -30 °C with acceptance ≥6 kJ/m² for housings used in northern climates. UV resistance is evaluated using ISO 4892-2 Cycle 1 for 2000 h; ΔE per ASTM D2244 should remain ≤3.0, and the surface should not exhibit microcracking at 10× magnification. Chemical exposure to horticultural chemicals, sunscreen, and DEET is screened by ISO 175 Method A at 23 °C for 24 h using cotton swab contact; the housing must retain at least 90% of tensile strength and show no visible crazing. Formulation for outdoor power equipment includes 0.5–1.5 wt% UV stabilizer, 1.0–2.0 wt% pigment, and 0.2–0.5 wt% lubricant. Terminal products include electric blower fan shrouds, line trimmer motor housings, battery pack cradles, and outdoor charging docks.
Pulite ASA is not recommended for fuel tank or fuel line components because aromatic hydrocarbons and ketones cause softening and stress cracking; gasoline-powered equipment fuel contacting parts should be made from fuel-resistant polyamide or POM grades. For electric equipment, operational temperature is limited to 80 °C continuous and 95 °C short term under load. Drop testing of complete housings is performed per IEC 60068-2-31 at -20 °C from 0.8 m; the housing must not crack at bosses or snap-fit features.
Sheet extrusion and thermoforming of Pulite ASA into recreational vehicle exterior trim, road signage shells, and traffic control cabinet covers begins with drying at 80–90 °C for 4–6 h and sheet extrusion through a 100 mm barrier screw with L/D 33:1. Melt temperature is 225–245 °C; die temperature is 220–235 °C; polished rolls are set at 80–90 °C with roll gap 0.8–3.0 mm. Thermoforming requires sheet temperature 140–170 °C and mold temperature 90–110 °C; female mold radii must not be below 2.0 mm. The sheets are often capped or laminated with acrylic or fluoropolymer films to increase chemical resistance. Impact strength for RV exterior compartment doors is checked by ISO 6603-2 at -20 °C, with at least 60% of room-temperature energy retention; tensile at yield ISO 527-3 for sheet is 35–45 MPa; weathering under ISO 4892-2 Cycle 1 for 3000 h yields ΔE ≤ 3.0 and gloss retention ≥70%. Road signage shells must meet chromaticity requirements for specific colors, with pigments at 1.0–2.5 wt% and opacity confirmed over black substrate.
The process boundary is thermoforming thickness nonuniformity: ASA sheet thins by 30–50% at draw ratio 1:1, and localized thickness below 1.2 mm reduces UV resistance and impact. For coextruded sheet, cap-layer thickness after forming should be at least 0.08 mm at the thinnest corner; below that level, chalking may appear after 1000 h of accelerated weathering. Terminal products are RV compartment doors, front cap skirt panels, traffic signal housing shells, and road sign back plates. Secondary assembly by adhesive bonding uses two-part acrylic structural adhesive with bond-line thickness 0.3–0.5 mm; surface preparation is limited to isopropanol wipe because sanding can break the weatherable surface layer. The material is not recommended for structural load-bearing members without metal reinforcement because creep modulus under ISO 899-2 at 60 °C drops to approximately 55–65% of the short-term modulus.
