Injection moulding of Daqing ABS 750A into lower automotive interior trim is driven less by nominal datasheet values than by retention of impact resistance after the melt crosses long flow paths through cold runner systems. Components such as glove box outer panels, coat-hook brackets, seat-side shields, HVAC outlet vanes and speaker grille frames are gated through fan gates with land thickness 1.2–1.8 mm and runner diameter 5–6 mm to prevent premature freeze-off. The nozzle melt temperature is held within 230–250 °C; the mould wall temperature is maintained between 40 °C and 60 °C, with the lower half applied to textured ribbed bosses where gloss control is not required. Virgin pellet moisture is reduced to below 0.05 wt% in a desiccant dryer at 80 °C for 3–4 h. When moisture exceeds that value, moulded-in stresses localise around bosses and notched Izod impact measured by ISO 180/1A at 23 °C drops below 20 kJ/m² on thin-walled sections. Regrind from sprues and short shots is added at a maximum of 20 wt%, but only for hidden surfaces such as seat-side shield backs, because surface specking from unmelts increases when regrind particle size exceeds 10 mm diameter.
Compliance for interior trim involves fire performance, fogging, and emissions. Flame spread is tested by ISO 3795 on 3.0 mm plaque specimens, with a burning-rate acceptance threshold of 100 mm/min or lower in most OEM interior material specifications. Volatile organic compound and semi-volatile organic compound emissions are screened with VDA 278; fogging behaviour is measured by ISO 6452 using a 100 °C bath and 21 °C glass plate, with gravimetric fogging mass typically controlled below 2.0 mg. On a hydraulic reciprocating-screw machine with screw L/D 20:1 to 24:1 and compression ratio 2.0:1 to 2.5:1, melt temperature is controlled over three barrel zones. For a glove box outer panel with projected area of 600 cm² and peak cavity pressure of 35 MPa, the minimum clamp force is 2100 kN; machines with smaller clamp force exhibit mould breathing and flash at the parting line when hold pressure is maintained.
Paint-free conversion of Daqing ABS 750A is achieved only when the cavity texture is sufficiently deep to mask scuff damage, but not so deep that ejection becomes difficult. Toolmakers use VDI 24 to VDI 27 texture with draft angles increased to 2.5–3.0° per side. The melt is injected with a segmented velocity profile from 30% to 65% of maximum screw speed; hold pressure is set at 55–70% of peak cavity pressure to avoid gloss variation. Mould temperature above 50 °C is necessary for texture replication, but increasing wall temperature above 60 °C lowers surface gloss below the target range and extends cooling time. The 60° gloss of a textured surface measured by ISO 2813 with a 2.0 mm wall plaque typically stabilises at 2.5–3.5 GU when tool texture is VDI 24.
Scratch resistance is the limiting property in paint-free applications. OEM test procedures derived from PV3952 use a 5 N load and 10 double strokes; a ΔL of less than 1.5 is commonly required in long-term visible zones. Dark grey or black moulded-in-colour grades of ABS 750A can meet such a limit on textured surfaces because deformation whitening is hidden by the grain, but light-coloured parts do not. Therefore the paint-free route is restricted to charcoal, black and dark brown interior tones unless an anti-scratch additive system is compounded at 0.5–1.5 wt%. Terminal products include instrument cluster lower trim, door pull surrounds and centre console side panels.
Electroplating of Daqing ABS 750A starts with selective oxidation of the butadiene-rubber phase. The etch bath contains 370–420 g/L CrO3 and 360–420 g/L H2SO4, maintained at 60–70 °C for 8–12 min depending on part geometry. Bath loading is kept below 0.1 m²/L to prevent etch-rate drift. After neutralisation and activation with palladium/tin colloid, an electroless nickel layer is deposited, followed by electrolytic build. Peel strength is measured on a 25 mm strip under ASTM B533; an acceptance limit of 0.8 N/mm or higher is used for exterior automotive parts, with lower values rejected because thermal-cycle stress opens blisters.
The electrolytic sequence is copper strike 15–25 μm, semi-bright nickel 15–20 μm, bright nickel 5–10 μm, microporous nickel 1–2 μm, and chromium 0.25–0.5 μm. For Daqing ABS 750A, published etch-rate data outside plant-specific bath logs is limited; cross-section microscopy should be used to confirm pore depth before serial production. Exterior trim such as radiator grille surrounds and tailgate trim must satisfy 2000/53/EC ELV provisions and REACH Annex XVII entry 47 for chromium(VI) in the finished article. The presence of insert bosses with rib-to-wall ratio above 1.5 is avoided because local orientation at gate entry zones produces skin-layer weakness that causes post-plating peel after thermal cycling under ISO 2819.
Unlike automotive trim, electrical and low-voltage enclosure moulding in Daqing ABS 750A is constrained by metallic insert thermal sinks rather than surface gloss. Brass or steel threaded inserts are preheated to 85–100 °C before insertion into the tool; an unheated insert chills the melt front and produces a weak weld line behind the insert where notched Izod impact can fall below 50% of the unfilled value measured by ISO 180/1A. Injection speed is reduced to 20–35 mm/s screw advance in the insert region and increased after the melt passes the obstruction. Hold pressure is set at 60–75% of peak cavity pressure, with gate sealing time determined by screw-position-based hold termination. Melt temperature must not exceed 250 °C; barrel residence time at melt temperature is kept below 10 min to prevent yellowing in unpigmented cover applications.
Compliance for circuit breaker covers, terminal block enclosures and consumer unit front covers is guided by IEC 60695-2-11 glow-wire testing and IEC 60335-1 clause 30. Daqing ABS 750A without flame-retardant modification is normally rated UL 94 HB; unattended appliance enclosures exposed to glow-wire at 650 °C may pass only when wall thickness is above 3.0 mm and internal live parts are shielded. If a V-0 rating at 1.6 mm or glow-wire 850 °C is requested, this virgin grade is not sufficient and a flame-retardant compound variant must be specified. Moulded parts for consumer units are checked for dimensional stability after 24 h ageing at 70 °C with IEC 60664-1 creepage and clearance distances maintained.

High-gloss black parts moulded from Daqing ABS 750A require cavity surfaces polished to Ra 0.025–0.05 μm and mould temperature held at 65–80 °C. The higher wall temperature transfers the polished tool finish to the melt but increases cycle time by 15–25% compared with a 40 °C tool. For a control panel fascia of 2.0–2.5 mm nominal wall, the feed system uses a sequential valve-gate hot runner with two or three drops; gate opening is delayed until the first melt front has passed the gate to avoid visible weld lines. Pack pressure is profiled from 70% to 50% of injection pressure over 6–10 s, and screw decompression is limited to 3–5 mm to prevent splay around the sprue bushing. Back pressure is maintained at 0.5–1.0 MPa during plasticating to maintain melt density.
Carbon black masterbatch in an SAN carrier is added at 2.0–3.0 wt% let-down ratio, with masterbatch pre-dried at 80 °C for 4 h. The SAN carrier reduces melt viscosity variation across the barrel, which in turn reduces visible colour streaks on polished surfaces. Panel gloss is measured at 20° under ISO 2813; production control usually requires 90 GU or higher on flat regions. Ribs are designed at 40–50% of nominal wall to avoid sink marks that would be visible under high-gloss lighting. Domestic appliance housing compliance includes IEC 60335-1 for electrical safety, 2011/65/EU RoHS with delegated directive (EU) 2015/863 for phthalates, and REACH EC 1907/2006 SVHC communication requirements. Terminal products include vacuum cleaner motor housings, air purifier shells, coffee machine side panels and control caps.
Compounding Daqing ABS 750A with non-restricted brominated epoxy and antimony trioxide shifts the melt fracture threshold upward because the additive package raises melt viscosity in the die. A co-rotating twin-screw extruder with L/D 44:1 and vacuum venting at −0.08 MPa negative pressure is configured with a 60/120/60 mesh screen pack and die pressure maintained below 120 bar. Flame-retardant masterbatch is side-fed at 18–25 wt% to avoid premature shear heating in the melting zone; antimony trioxide loading is held at 3–6 wt%. The screw speed is set to keep melt temperature at the die below 240 °C, because brominated epoxy decomposition accelerates above 250 °C and produces pin-holes in the strand.
Flame-retarded compounds based on ABS 750A are evaluated under UL 94 on 1.6 mm bars; a V-0 rating requires that afterflame times on each specimen are less than 10 s and total afterflame time for five specimens is less than 50 s. For power-supply enclosures, the compounded material is further checked for comparative tracking index under IEC 60112 and glow-wire ignition temperature under IEC 60695-2-13. The compounder documents that the flame-retardant chemistry does not use polybrominated biphenyls or polybrominated diphenyl ethers, which are restricted by RoHS 2011/65/EU Annex II. Products exiting this compounding route include internal frames for servers, DC charger modules and uninterruptible power supply housings.

PetroChina Daqing ABS 750A is an acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene injection-moulding grade manufactured by PetroChina Daqing Petrochemical Company and supplied as cylindrical pellets. In distributor product specifications, 750A is classified as a high-flow, general-purpose ABS with a balance between melt processability and impact strength. The lot certification documentation normally reports a melt mass-flow rate of 18 g/10 min when tested at 220 °C under a 10.00 kg piston load according to ISO 1133-1:2022. The same lot certificates list a density of 1.04 g/cm³ under ISO 1183-1:2019, a tensile yield stress in the range 46–48 MPa under ISO 527-2:2012, and a notched Charpy impact value of approximately 21 kJ/m² at 23 °C under ISO 179-1/1eA. These values place 750A within the medium-impact high-flow region of the Daqing ABS portfolio, distinct from low-flow extrusion grades and from heat-resistant ABS grades. Compliance documentation supplied by the manufacturer supports European Union REACH and RoHS recast 2011/65/EU declarations.
Pre-drying in a dehumidifying hopper dryer is required before moulding. The resin is dried at 80 °C for 3–4 h to reduce surface moisture below 0.05 % by weight, with a drying-air dew point at or below −30 °C. Material exposed to relative humidity above 60 % for more than 2 h is re-dried to avoid splay and brittle weld lines. In production-scale injection moulding on a reciprocating-screw machine, an L/D ratio of 20:1 to 24:1 and a compression ratio of 2.0:1 to 2.5:1 are specified for the plasticating unit. The melt temperature measured at the nozzle is maintained between 200 °C and 240 °C, with a preferred mid-band of 220 °C to 235 °C to balance flow length against thermal yellowing. Tool temperature is controlled between 40 °C and 80 °C; higher tool temperatures within this band improve knit-line strength and surface gloss but extend cooling time. Injection pressure is set to give a cavity filling time of 0.5–1.5 s for wall sections of 1.5–2.5 mm. Holding pressure is adjusted to limit sink marks while keeping gate-seal time below 8 s. Back pressure during screw recovery is maintained between 0.5 MPa and 1.5 MPa to prevent excessive melt temperature rise. Screw speed is limited to 40–80 min⁻¹. Long hold-up time above 240 °C causes polybutadiene phase degradation; if interruption exceeds 15 min, barrel temperature is lowered to 150 °C or the material purged. Gate and runner sizing for direct sprue, edge, or fan gates in thin-wall tools is calculated to keep shear rate below approximately 5 × 10³ s⁻¹ to avoid melt fracture. For hot-runner applications, externally heated manifolds with open nozzles are preferred over valve-gate systems with long residence times; published data for this specific hot-runner configuration is limited.
The table shows representative values from published lot certification reports for 750A. Batch-to-batch variation around these values is approximately ±10 % for impact properties and ±3 % for density.

Daqing ABS 750A is specified for injection-moulded appliance control panels, vacuum cleaner housings, electrical enclosures, telephone handsets, automotive interior trim, and toys. The substitution from mineral-filled polypropylene or standard ABS is driven by the combination of moderate impact strength and adequate flow length. In a 2.0 mm wall section at a melt temperature of 230 °C, the flow path length of 750A typically exceeds that of low-gloss ABS grades but falls below high-flow ABS grades with MFR above 30 g/10 min; published data for this specific configuration is limited. The moulding shrinkage of 0.4 %–0.7 % requires uniform wall thickness and rounded transitions in rib-to-wall junctions to reduce sink marks. Rib thickness is 60 %–70 % of the adjacent wall thickness. Boss outer diameter is 2.0–2.5 times the screw boss inside diameter.
Surface appearance is medium to high gloss, but lower than gloss-optimised electroplating ABS. For pigmented or pre-coloured lots, masterbatch dilution ratio is normally 2 %–4 % by weight. Because 750A is not UV-stabilised for continuous exterior exposure and not heat-stabilised for continuous service above 80 °C under load, unpainted exterior parts require a UV-stabilised compounded lot or painting. Creep resistance at 23 °C is typical for ABS, but under continuous stress of 5 MPa the long-term creep modulus falls below short-term values; design using a long-term allowable stress below 7 MPa is specified for structural snap-fit arms.
When selecting between 750A and other ABS grades, the main trade-off is between melt flow, heat resistance, and surface finish. The table below compares characteristic values; the high-heat and electroplating columns are typical industrial reference points rather than batch-specific data.
| Characteristic | Daqing ABS 750A | High-heat ABS typical | Electroplating ABS typical |
|---|---|---|---|
| Melt mass-flow rate, 220 °C/10.00 kg, g/10 min | 18 | 5–8 | 14–18 |
| Heat deflection temperature, 0.45 MPa, °C | 95 | 105–110 | 96 |
| Charpy notched impact strength, 23 °C, kJ/m² | 21 | 18–20 | 22 |
| Moulding shrinkage, % | 0.4–0.7 | 0.3–0.6 | 0.4–0.7 |
| Typical processing melt temperature, °C | 200–240 | 230–260 | 210–250 |
The high melt mass-flow rate of 750A derives from a styrene-acrylonitrile matrix with lower molar mass and lower content of heat-resisting comonomers than high-heat ABS. At similar rubber content, 750A flows faster in spiral-flow moulds but begins to soften at lower temperature. The 0.45 MPa heat deflection temperature of 95 °C means that under load-bearing structural conditions, continuous-use temperature is limited to approximately 70 °C to 75 °C, whereas high-heat ABS with HDT/B above 105 °C is required for instrument panel retainers exposed to 110 °C air. The polybutadiene phase in 750A is stabilised against thermo-oxidative degradation but is not suitable for long-term contact with strong oxidising acids, ketones, or aromatic solvents. Contact with acetone or methyl ethyl ketone leads to surface stress cracking; high-humidity service above 85 % RH at 40 °C can reduce notched impact after 500 h due to moisture uptake at the rubber interface. When solvent bonding is required, cyclohexanone-based adhesives are used with maximum dwell time of 30 s on unstressed surfaces. Ultrasonic welding is preferred over hot-plate welding for 750A because lower viscosity allows faster energy-director collapse, with weld pressure set between 0.2 MPa and 0.4 MPa and amplitude between 30 µm and 40 µm at 20 kHz. For joining to polycarbonate, compatibility is limited; interfacial strength decreases measurably when polycarbonate content exceeds 30 % in the melt blend.
Regrind from sprues and runners is mixed with virgin pellets on production lines. The impact retention curve remains acceptable up to 20 % regrind addition by weight. At 30 % regrind addition, the notched Charpy impact strength falls below 16 kJ/m² in published lot comparisons; at 50 % regrind addition, surface gloss decreases and yellowing index increases measurably under D65 illumination. Moulders running automated take-out systems and granulators with closed-loop drying report that regrind particle size should be limited to 3–5 mm to prevent feeding instability in single-screw injection units.
Documentation supplied with the resin indicates compliance with RoHS recast 2011/65/EU for lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, PBB, and PBDE. REACH SVHC declarations are provided through the safety data sheet according to Regulation EC No 1907/2006. The material is not food-contact approved according to FDA 21 CFR 177.1020 unless a specific compounded and lettered lot is ordered and verified. The service temperature limits are −30 °C for impact-critical components and 75 °C for continuous structural load. The resin is incompatible with strong mineral acids above 10 % concentration, aromatic hydrocarbons, esters, and chlorinated solvents. Contact with ethanol at concentrations up to 30 % shows no significant effect at 23 °C over 24 h in immersion testing. Printed labels, adhesives, and gaskets must be tested because plasticiser migration from flexible PVC can embrittle the ABS surface over time.
