Prior to injection moulding or extrusion, PetroChina Daqing ABS 750 pellets are dried in a closed-loop desiccant dryer with supply-air dew point at or below -40°C. The moisture endpoint target is ≤0.05% by weight when measured by Karl Fischer titration or a calibrated moisture analyser. Drying residence time is set between 2 h and 4 h at 80±5°C. Hopper capacity above the feed throat is limited to 20–30 min of machine throughput at ambient relative humidity above 60%. Dried pellets must not remain exposed to open plant air for longer than 1 h. The material is conditioned in a general-purpose screw with L/D ratio between 20:1 and 24:1. The compression ratio is maintained between 2.0:1 and 2.5:1. Melt-temperature setpoint is held between 220°C and 245°C. The nozzle zone is biased slightly below the metering zone to limit long-residence thermal degradation at the check ring. Back pressure is set from 0.5 MPa to 1.5 MPa. Excessive back pressure with high-flow ABS can generate shear heating and shift the melt mass-flow rate outside the lot-certified band. Melt residence time above 245°C is held below 5 min. In hot-runner systems, manifold and drop temperatures are profiled separately from the barrel. A drop-tip over-temperature condition above 260°C triggers feed interruption on production-scale equipment. This boundary reflects butadiene-phase degradation that causes yellowing, acrid odour, and loss of notched Izod impact. Incoming lots are verified by ISO 1133-1:2022 melt flow-rate inspection. Daqing 750 is classified as a high-flow general-purpose ABS injection moulding grade. These conditions are industrial start-points for general-purpose ABS grades and are to be corrected against the specific lot certificate for Daqing 750.
Flash-frame, battery-door, and scanner-housing tools use ABS 750 in wall sections between 0.9 mm and 1.2 mm. The material is selected when flow-length-to-wall-thickness ratios must reach 150:1 or greater without gas-assisted packing. Processing on a 1,000 kN to 2,500 kN hydraulic or hybrid injection machine is typical for multi-cavity tools. Gate geometry is a direct edge gate or pin gate with land length between 0.8 mm and 1.5 mm. The nozzle temperature is held at the upper melt-window boundary, between 240°C and 250°C, to increase fluidity. Melt temperature above 250°C narrows the cosmetic process window because the butadiene phase begins degrading and surface streaking appears after short residence time. Injection velocity is set to fill the cavity in 0.15–0.35 s. The velocity/pressure switchover point is placed at 97–99% of shot volume to prevent overpacking thin ribs. Pack pressure is applied from 30 MPa to 50 MPa and held for 1.5–3.0 s before gate freeze. The mould temperature is maintained at 50–60°C using a pressurized water unit. A higher surface temperature degrades high-flow ABS surface replication in textured cavities. Pressure-drop measurement across a hot-runner manifold is benchmarked at ≤35 MPa using the viscosity curve supplied with the material lot. With a needle-valve gate, valve-pin actuation timing is confirmed against cavity-pressure sensors sampled at 2 kHz. Cavity-pressure imbalance across multi-cavity tools is held below ±8% of the peak value. Imbalance beyond this value produces short shots in the furthest drop and flash in the nearest. The process alarm for cavity-pressure peak is set between 60 MPa and 80 MPa for thin-wall housings. Parts such as handheld scanner shells, mobile-data terminal covers, remote-control back shells, and electronic stylus bodies are produced under this profile. Compliance testing uses ISO 294-1:2017 moulded plaques and ASTM D638-14 Type I specimens. Tensile yield and elongation at break are measured after conditioning at 23±2°C and 50±5% RH. Because Daqing 750 carries no UL yellow card for thin-wall ignition resistance, the application is restricted to low-energy DC accessory housings.
Automotive interior brackets are moulded with mount bosses, snap features, and rib intersections that create weld lines in polycarbonate-free ABS. Weld-line impact reduction in unmodified ABS routinely exceeds 30% relative to un-welded material when melt fronts meet at angles below 60°. This reduction is measured by ASTM D256-10 Izod impact on notched specimens cut across the weld plane. Daqing 750 has sufficient flow character to fill map-pocket retainers, A-pillar trim clips, seat side trim brackets, and defroster grille reinforcement frames. Tool design places the gate at the thickest section and positions flow leaders to shift weld lines into low-stress zones. Mould temperature is raised to 60–70°C where structural parts require improved weld strength. A higher mould temperature delays frozen-layer growth at the melt front and increases interdiffusion of the styrene-acrylonitrile phase across the weld interface. Cycle time increases by 8–15% compared with an unheated mould at 30°C. Pack pressure at the weld zone is raised by 10–15 MPa above the nominal packing profile for 2–4 s after switchover. This modification compresses the melt front and reduces knit-line notching. Venting must be placed within 4 mm of the expected weld line. Inadequate venting traps air and expands into microvoids at the knit line. Melt temperature is not raised beyond 240°C because weld-line impact ceases to improve above this point and the butadiene phase risks chemical alteration. High-shear screw recovery offers no advantage in this geometry; screw speed is set between 60 rpm and 120 rpm on a 35–50 mm screw. Automotive interior compliance is evaluated under ISO 3795 with a maximum burn rate of 100 mm/min. Long-term heat ageing is screened by ISO 75-2:2013 HDT at 1.8 MPa. Daqing 750 does not replace a heat-resistant ABS or PC/ABS for surfaces above 85°C continuous air temperature. Instrument-panel centre-console trim requires painting or vacuum forming of a UV-cured topcoat to offset gloss loss under UV exposure.
In appliance control-panel production, high-gloss mould surfaces are specified as SPI A-2 or A-3. The resin is injected through a sprue or hot drop at 235–245°C with a fill time of 0.3–0.6 s. Rapid fill and sufficient melt temperature prevent flow lines on vertical control-panel surfaces. The tool is cooled with water at 25–30°C and held under pack pressure until the gate freezes. Sink marks around display windows are controlled by reducing the rib root thickness to 0.5–0.6 mm of the adjacent wall. The substrate is overmoulded with a clear PMMA or polycarbonate display window in a second shot. Adhesion is mechanical rather than molecular, so undercuts and plasma or corona pre-treatment at 1.5–2.5 kW are applied before overmoulding. ABS 750 is suitable for vacuum cleaner floor tools, handgrip shells, air vents, and detergent-drawer fronts because of its stiffness and dimensional stability. Stiffness is measured by ASTM D790-17 flexural modulus. Typical flexural modulus for high-flow ABS injection grades lies between 2,000 MPa and 2,600 MPa. This supports unsupported panel spans up to 120 mm at 2.5 mm wall thickness without creep distortion under indoor ambient load. The material must not be exposed to ketones, esters, or aromatic solvents commonly found in appliance cleaning agents. Contact with diethyl phthalate or butyl cellosolve leads to stress cracking and should be excluded by design review. Household appliance safety testing follows IEC 60335-1. Ball pressure testing is conducted according to IEC 60695-10-2; the test clamp applies 20 N on a 5 mm diameter steel sphere. Daqing 750 does not possess a UL 94 V-0 listing and is not used for parts adjacent to uninsulated supply terminals.

Decorative chromium plating onto ABS 750 follows a pre-plate sequence of alkaline soak, mild acid neutralization, chromic-sulfuric or chromic-acid etch, palladium-tin activation, electroless nickel or copper deposition, and electrolytic copper/nickel/chromium layering. The etch stage creates microcavities on the polybutadiene-rich surface. Over-etching degrades the SAN matrix and reduces peel adhesion. Under-etching leaves the surface too smooth to form mechanical interlocks. Etchant concentration is maintained at 350–420 g/L chromic acid and 180–220 g/L sulphuric acid at 60–70°C for 5–10 min. These values represent widely published industrial etch baths for general-purpose ABS, not a specific chemical recommendation for Daqing 750. The lot-specific butadiene particle size and dispersion control the etch-response window. Plating peel strength is evaluated by ASTM B533 using a 90° peel fixture. Typical decorative automotive-grade ABS peel-strength targets are in the range 0.8–1.2 N/mm. Daqing 750 has a suitable general-purpose ABS morphology when received from the manufacturer, but no independent peel-strength certificate should be assumed. Each incoming lot is evaluated on a test plaque with the same etch bath and plated layer stack as production parts. Process drift in the etch bath is monitored by titration every 4 h. Surface roughness after etching is held between 0.4 µm and 0.8 µm Ra. Higher roughness values indicate excessive butadiene extraction and produce dull low-gloss plated surfaces. Lower roughness values produce bright surfaces that blister after thermal cycling. Plated ABS parts produced from 750 include interior door handles, badge substrates, steering-wheel trim caps, cosmetic ring surrounds, and bathroom accessory plates. Thermal cycle testing for plated ABS is conducted between -40°C and 85°C for 10 cycles with 1 h dwell. Microcracking and plate adhesion loss are inspected after each cycle. Hexavalent chromium etch systems are constrained under EU REACH authorization requirements; platers must document the specific authorization or move to trivalent chromium or sulphonated etching alternatives. Trivalent systems require longer etch times or high-velocity solution impingement and may reduce the peel-strength window compared with chromic-sulphuric etch on ABS. The manufacturer of Daqing 750 does not guarantee plating performance because final adhesion depends on the customized etch chemistry.
Consumer AC/DC adapter housings and charger bodies are thin-wall enclosures with snap-fit sealing joints and internal standoffs. These enclosures are produced from ABS 750 only when the product electrical design uses an already insulated power converter and no direct access to live parts. The grade is not rated for use as a fire enclosure shielding mains terminals unless a certified flame-retardant ABS is used. IEC 62368-1 fire enclosure requirements invoke needle-flame testing or acceptance through material classification. ABS 750 cannot be substituted for a UL 94 V-0 ABS without re-testing the completed enclosure. For low-power DC accessory shells, the enclosure is designed with wall thickness between 1.5 mm and 2.5 mm and venting openings limited to ≤2 mm in the smallest dimension. The injection process uses a cold-runner valve gate with screw recovery speed between 60 rpm and 100 rpm. A flame-retardant-free compound retains the high flow and surface gloss of the base resin. However, contact with flexible power-cord insulation containing migrating plasticizers can cause long-term stress cracking. Cable strain-relief channels are designed with generous radii and overmoulded with thermoplastic elastomer at a lower clamp temperature. RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU restricts heavy metals and brominated flame retardants; Daqing ABS 750 is supplied without polybrominated diphenyl ethers. REACH SVHC compliance is verified from the product SDS and lot certification for each shipment. The end-use charger shell is not subject to food-contact migration testing. For the European market, low-voltage electrical safety is confirmed under EN 62368-1:2020 rather than the withdrawn EN 60950-1. Ball pressure testing is performed at 125°C for accessible insulating parts under abnormal heat. ABS 750 typically passes at this temperature when wall thickness exceeds 1.5 mm. If wall thickness drops below 1.0 mm, ball-pressure and glow-wire performance must be re-validated on finished parts because thermal mass decreases and local softening occurs earlier. Published data for Daqing 750 specifically in mains-terminal fire-enclosure configurations is limited; the product is not specified for that duty without additional certification.
For flat furniture edge banding and thin decor profiles, a single-screw extruder with L/D ratio between 25:1 and 30:1 is used. The screw includes a barrier mixing section and a melt pump. Melt temperature is controlled at 200–230°C, lower than injection-moulding temperature, to retain melt strength in the free web between die and embossing roll. The die is a flat sheet die with adjustable restrictor bar and die gap between 0.8 mm and 2.5 mm. The web is drawn through a three-roll polishing stack with roll temperatures set between 80°C and 95°C. A high-flow ABS such as 750 is less suited to heavy-gauge extruded sheet than to thin-gauge edge banding because melt strength is limited. Melt pump suction pressure is kept at 2–4 MPa to minimize pulsation. Haul-off speed is set so that the drawn sheet reaches target thickness before the embossing station. The banding is embossed with a wood-grain or solid-colour texture and cut to widths between 16 mm and 54 mm. Profile coextrusion with a PMMA cap layer is applied when high gloss and scratch resistance are required. ABS 750 bonds mechanically or through an acrylic tie layer in coextrusion. Cap layer thickness is maintained between 60 µm and 120 µm. Long-term colour stability under indoor UV is acceptable, but outdoor exposure leads to chalking and loss of impact. A UV-stabilized acrylic cap is not a substitute for full outdoor weatherability. The terminal edge banding is checked for width tolerance at ±0.2 mm and thickness tolerance at ±0.05 mm using calibrated optical gauges. Applications include furniture edge banding, drawer trim, picture frame profiles, and low-stress decorative strips.

PetroChina Daqing ABS 750 is a general-purpose acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene resin supplied in pelletized form for injection molding, sheet extrusion, and extrusion compounding. The grade designation ABS 750 places the material within the Daqing ABS 750 series, which is distinguished from high-flow and high-impact ABS grades by its balanced melt viscosity, notched Izod impact, and tensile modulus. Conditioning of test specimens follows ISO 291:2008 or ASTM D618-21; specimens are held at 23 °C and 50 % RH for not less than 40 h before measurement. The resin is an unfilled, non-flame-retardant composition; flame classification cannot be assumed unless the finished part is tested under IEC 60695-11-10 or UL 94. In production, pellets are dried before processing because ABS is hygroscopic and residual moisture above approximately 0.1 % by mass generates splay, silver streaks, and melt hydrolysis. The grade is typically used in appliance housings, electrical enclosures, business machine covers, and interior automotive trim where a balance of impact, flow, and surface finish is required.
Drying is the first process constraint observed on production lines. In a dehumidifying hopper dryer with a dew point of -30 °C or lower, Daqing ABS 750 is typically dried at 80 °C for 2 h to 4 h. At ambient relative humidity above 60 % RH, residence time is extended to 4 h or more because moisture uptake follows Fickian diffusion through the pellet surface. Acceptable residual moisture is below 0.1 % by mass, measured by ISO 15512:2019 Method A or ASTM D6869-17. Processors that skip drying observe surface splay on mirror-polished cavities and a measurable reduction in notched Izod impact due to hydrolytic scission in the styrene-acrylonitrile phase.
Melt temperature for injection molding is maintained between 220 °C and 250 °C; for thick sections, the lower half of this range is selected to minimize thermal history, while thin-wall parts below 1.5 mm nominal wall thickness may require the upper half to achieve complete filling. Barrel residence time at maximum temperature should not exceed 5 min; above 260 °C, the polybutadiene rubber phase undergoes oxidative and thermal degradation leading to crosslinking, yellowing, and a rapid fall in notched Izod impact. On a reciprocating screw injection machine, a general-purpose screw with an L/D ratio of 20:1 to 24:1 and compression ratio of 2.5:1 to 3.0:1 provides homogeneous melt without excessive shear heating. Back pressure is set between 0.5 MPa and 1.0 MPa to avoid excessive energy input.
Mold surface temperature affects weld-line strength and gloss. A mold temperature of 40 °C to 80 °C is used; lower temperatures reduce cycle time but produce higher molded-in stress and lower weld-line impact. When a hot runner is used, the manifold and nozzle temperatures are held 5 °C to 10 °C above the melt temperature to prevent cold slugs without degrading the melt. Gate freeze time is treated as a processing boundary because premature screw retraction before gate sealing causes sink marks in ribbed sections. Injection speed is adjusted by short-shot studies; excessive shear at the gate is avoided because narrow gates can generate melt fracture and rubber-phase scission.
In sheet extrusion and thermoforming, Daqing ABS 750 is processed on single-screw extruders with L/D ratios of 24:1 to 30:1 and polished chrome roll stacks set between 80 °C and 100 °C. The resin is used for bathtub surrounds, luggage shells, refrigerator liners, and automotive trim panels where thermoformability and consistent draw depth are required. Finished parts exhibit a balance of stiffness and impact; tensile stress at yield for general-purpose ABS of this class is typically reported in the range 40 MPa to 50 MPa under ISO 527-2:2012, while notched Izod impact at 23 °C is usually between 15 kJ/m² and 25 kJ/m² under ISO 180:2023. Published data specifically for Daqing ABS 750 is limited; these values are therefore provided as the typical industrial window for unfilled general-purpose ABS and should not be substituted for a supplier certificate of analysis. The material is also extrusion-compounded with colorants, antistatic packages, or processing aids where the base resin molecular weight distribution permits additive dispersion without excessive torque rise.
The position of ABS 750 within the Daqing product family is defined by its intermediate melt viscosity and balanced impact-stiffness profile. High-flow ABS grades in the same product family are produced with lower molecular weight or modified SAN chain length to achieve higher melt volume-flow rates for thin-wall injection molding; this shift can reduce notched Izod impact and chemical stress-crack resistance. High-impact ABS grades contain a higher polybutadiene content or larger rubber particle size distribution; the resulting notched Izod impact may exceed 30 kJ/m², but tensile modulus and Vicat softening temperature decline. Daqing ABS 750 is therefore selected when a part requires an unfilled material that can be injection molded at moderate pressures while retaining sufficient rigidity for structural ribs and snap-fit features.
The table below compiles typical property windows for three unfilled ABS classes under standard test conditions. Values are literature ranges for general-purpose, high-flow, and high-impact ABS, not lot-specific Daqing ABS 750 certifications.
| Property | Test method | General-purpose ABS 750 class | High-flow ABS | High-impact ABS |
| Melt volume-flow rate at 220 °C/10 kg | ISO 1133-1:2022 | 10–25 cm³/10 min | 30–40 cm³/10 min | 5–15 cm³/10 min |
| Notched Izod impact at 23 °C | ISO 180:2023 | 15–25 kJ/m² | 10–15 kJ/m² | 30–45 kJ/m² |
| Tensile stress at yield | ISO 527-2:2012 | 40–50 MPa | 40–45 MPa | 30–40 MPa |
| Vicat softening temperature B50 | ISO 306:2022 | 95–105 °C | 92–100 °C | 90–98 °C |
| Heat deflection temperature at 1.8 MPa | ISO 75-2:2013 | 85–95 °C | 80–90 °C | 75–88 °C |
The classification is based on unfilled, unpainted samples; actual Daqing ABS 750 values may differ by production lot, colorant loading, and specimen preparation. No direct substitution should be made without comparing the supplier certificate of analysis against the part drawing tolerances.
Compared with high-heat ABS grades, Daqing ABS 750 generally has a lower Vicat softening temperature and lower resistance to creep under load; high-heat grades are produced by incorporating alpha-methylstyrene or maleimide comonomers into the SAN phase. This modification raises the Vicat softening temperature above 105 °C, but it also increases melt viscosity and can reduce impact at low temperatures. Extrusion-grade ABS resins may have broader molecular weight distribution to maintain melt strength during sheet formation; Daqing ABS 750 is acceptable for sheet extrusion, but processors requiring high sag resistance for deep-draw thermoforming often select a dedicated extrusion grade with lower melt flow.
In electroplating operations, ABS grades are etched in a chromic-sulfuric acid solution to dissolve surface polybutadiene particles and create mechanical anchoring sites for electroless nickel or copper deposition. Emulsion-polymerized ABS grades with controlled rubber particle sizes are typically preferred because the etch produces a dense, uniform microporous surface. When Daqing ABS 750 is considered as a substitute, the etch bath concentration, temperature, and immersion time must be revalidated; published data for this specific configuration is limited. Surface roughness after etching should be measured according to ISO 21920-2:2021, and plated-part adhesion and thermal cycling should be evaluated under ISO 2819 or the applicable OEM specification. A part passes only if the plated layer exhibits no visible blistering after thermal cycling between -40 °C and 85 °C for a minimum of 20 cycles.
Painting and bonding of ABS surfaces are influenced by surface polarity and internal stress. Daqing ABS 750 may be coated with solvent-borne or waterborne acrylic, polyurethane, or UV-cured coatings after surface cleaning with isopropanol or naphtha and, where necessary, corona or plasma pretreatment. The cleaning solvent should not include ketones, esters, or chlorinated hydrocarbons because these can cause environmental stress cracking in the SAN phase. Adhesion of coatings is evaluated by cross-cut testing under ISO 2409:2020; acceptable results are typically class 0 or 1 on unpigmented rigid substrates. When the finished part is used in an automotive interior, emission testing under VDA 275 or ISO 12219-3:2012 may be required depending on the OEM specification.
Chemical compatibility of Daqing ABS 750 follows the general solvent resistance of ABS. The material resists dilute acids, alkalis, and aqueous salt solutions at ambient temperature, but it is incompatible with concentrated oxidizing acids, aromatic hydrocarbons, and short-chain ketones. Stress-crack testing is performed by exposing a fixed-strain specimen to the target chemical under ISO 22088-3:2007 or ASTM D543-21; parts that show cracking or a tensile strength reduction greater than 15 % after exposure are rejected. These limitations are important when the product is substituted for polycarbonate or polycarbonate/ABS blends, which offer better chemical resistance in some cases but are more sensitive to alkaline hydrolysis.
During incoming inspection, lots of Daqing ABS 750 are tested for melt volume-flow rate according to ISO 1133-1:2022, density according to ISO 1183-1:2019, and notched Izod impact according to ISO 180:2023. A single-lot certificate of analysis should report values that fall within the supplier’s specification window for that production campaign. Batch-to-batch variance is monitored because small shifts in rubber particle size distribution or SAN molecular weight can alter both flow and impact. The material is supplied in 25 kg multiwall bags or bulk containers, and storage should be in dry, covered conditions below 40 °C to minimize moisture pickup and oxidative aging.
