Designation AS706 in the Nanjing Delong PA/ABS series identifies a thermoplastic alloy compounded from a polyamide 6 continuous phase and an acrylonitrile–butadiene–styrene dispersed phase. The material is supplied as compounded pellets for injection moulding of components in which the heat and chemical resistance of polyamide 6 is required, but the moisture-driven dimensional instability of neat PA6 is unacceptable. Manufacturer disclosure for the exact PA6/ABS ratio is limited, and independent published data for this specific configuration is limited. Where quantitative values are stated below, they are class-typical ranges for unfilled PA/ABS alloys cited from public ISO/ASTM test literature, not lot-specific certificate of analysis values for AS706 unless explicitly attributed.
Prior to any melt processing, AS706-class material is dried in a desiccant-bed dryer at 80 °C for 4–6 h to a residual moisture content below 0.1% by weight. Conditioning below 0.1% is critical because molten PA6 undergoes hydrolytic chain scission when water exceeds that threshold. In class-equivalent PA/ABS compounds processed at 270 °C with 0.15% moisture, a loss in relative viscosity exceeding 5% is observable. The melt is typically maintained between 240 °C and 270 °C at the nozzle. The upper boundary is governed by the ABS dispersed phase: polybutadiene segments undergo thermo-oxidative degradation and generate yellow chromophores. The lower boundary reflects the high viscosity of the PA6 continuous phase.
For reciprocating-screw injection moulding machines, a three-zone screw with an L/D ratio of 20:1 and a compression ratio of 2.0–2.5 is commonly specified. Injection pressures of 70–120 MPa are typical, while clamp force is selected from component projected area. Mould temperatures are held at 60–90 °C. Temperatures below 60 °C freeze orientation near the cavity wall and can reduce weld-line burst strength by 25–40% in unreinforced PA/ABS class materials. Temperatures above 90 °C extend cycle time without proportional tensile improvement. Total residence time above 250 °C should not exceed 6 min per shot cycle. If the machine is stopped, the barrel is purged with a thermally stable purge compound and held at 200 °C or below. Flow classification under ISO 1133-1:2022 at 260 °C/5 kg is used for lot acceptance; class-typical PA/ABS grades of this viscosity bracket fall between 8 g/10 min and 25 g/10 min.
The manufacturer certificate for AS706 should be consulted for lot-specific values. A comparative matrix of class-typical PA/ABS alloy values is shown in Table 1. The standards named are the applicable test protocols.

| Moisture equilibrium at 23 °C/50% RH | ISO 62:2008 | 1.0–2.0% |

Compared with dry-as-moulded PA6, which typically exhibits tensile stress at yield of 70–80 MPa but notched Charpy impact at 23 °C of 4–6 kJ/m² in the dry state, the AS706 class exchanges tensile strength for a 5- to 12-fold higher notched impact energy. The trade-off is attributable to the ABS dispersed phase, which acts as an internal impact modifier within the polyamide 6 continuous phase. Moisture absorption is reduced by approximately 40–60% relative to neat PA6, but remains at 1.0–2.0% at 23 °C/50% RH under ISO 62:2008. ABS typically reaches only 0.2–0.6% moisture equilibrium under the same conditions. This explains why AS706 is positioned where PA6 would creep or warp from moisture cycling, while ABS would fail under heat or oil exposure.
Against 30% glass-fibre-reinforced PA6, the AS706 class produces lower anisotropy and lower warpage in flat plate mouldings. A 30% glass-filled PA6 can show flow-direction shrinkage below 0.2% and transverse shrinkage above 0.8%, whereas unreinforced PA/ABS class materials typically show less differential shrinkage. The compromise is flexural modulus: 1700–2300 MPa for the AS706 class versus 7000–9000 MPa for 30% glass-filled PA6 according to ISO 178:2019.
In automotive HVAC flap housings, power tool clamshells, centre console air-vent louvres, and electrical terminal covers, AS706 is evaluated against cyclic temperature exposure from −40 °C to 85 °C, contact with low-volatility silicone oils, and moulded-in snap-fit deflection. The material must retain snap-fit load after 500 h at 80 °C and 50% RH; class-typical PA/ABS compounds show tensile creep strain below 1.5% at 20 MPa and 80 °C under ISO 899-1:2017, but published data for this specific configuration is limited. The ABS phase reduces notch sensitivity at sub-zero temperatures, while the PA6 phase delays creep under load. In power tool housings, the material is typically moulded with wall thickness between 2.0 mm and 3.5 mm. Below 2.0 mm, flow hesitation at rib roots can increase short-shot frequency in cold-runner tools unless gate diameter is enlarged to 1.0–1.5 mm. For electrical terminal covers, comparative tracking index and glow-wire performance are specified by IEC 60112:2020 and IEC 60695-2-11:2021. AS706 lot-specific values require measurement because tracking index is influenced by PA6 continuous-phase moisture content and additive package.
Replacement of PC/ABS with AS706 is considered only after assessment of notch sensitivity and heat distortion reserve. PC/ABS class materials typically exhibit heat deflection temperature at 1.82 MPa of 95–125 °C and notched Izod impact values above 40 kJ/m² at 23 °C, while AS706 class materials occupy the lower portion of that heat range. The trade-off is lower melt viscosity: class-typical PA/ABS compounds exhibit melt volume-flow rates of 8–25 g/10 min at 260 °C/5 kg, whereas PC/ABS grades often fall below 10 g/10 min at the same condition, allowing higher flow-length-to-thickness ratios in thin-wall covers.
Chemical exposure to gasoline splash, skin oils, and common industrial cutting fluids may favour the PA/ABS class because PC/ABS can be susceptible to environmental stress cracking under certain phthalate or aromatic hydrocarbon contacts. No substitution should proceed without stress-crack testing to ISO 22088-3:2021 on final geometry. Against ABS, AS706 raises heat deflection temperature by 10–35 °C and reduces tensile yield strength sensitivity to temperature above 60 °C. Against PA6, AS706 lowers dry tensile yield by 30–45% but raises notched impact by 5–12 times. Published data for this specific configuration is limited.
At the compounding level, AS706-class materials are produced on twin-screw extruders with an L/D ratio of 40:1 and side-fed impact modifiers. Dispersed-phase domain size is controlled by screw speed and barrel residence time. Poor dispersion of the ABS phase produces a decline in notched impact strength and surface streaking. A typical lot-to-lot requirement is Charpy notched impact variation below 10% coefficient of variation across three batches. Quality assurance also monitors PA6 relative viscosity by solution viscometry, residual moisture by Karl Fischer titration to ISO 15512:2019, and ash content according to ISO 3451-1:2019. Regulatory documentation for AS706 should verify REACH SVHC status under Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006, RoHS 2011/65/EU as amended by (EU) 2015/863, and flammability classification to UL 94 HB or V-0 if required. Automotive interior parts may be assessed to FMVSS 302 or ISO 3795:1989; halogen-free status is not equivalent to flammability class without third-party certification. AS706 should not be blended with acetal or PVC regrind streams because acidic decomposition by-products can accelerate polyamide 6 hydrolysis. Pre-drying is required at RH above 60%, and storage in moisture-barrier packaging until use is mandatory.
