In thin-walled injection molding of opaque dairy tubs and lids, H6030 is processed at melt temperature 190–220°C and mold temperature 10–20°C on a 120–180 t toggle-clamp machine. The screw diameter is 30–35 mm, L/D ratio 20:1, and compression ratio 2.0:1–2.5:1. The selected resin has a density of 0.960 g/cm³ under ISO 1183 and a melt flow rate of 30 g/10 min under ISO 1133-1. For a 500 mL tub with average wall thickness 0.8 mm, the fill time is set at 0.4–0.8 s. Pack pressure is maintained at 40–60 MPa for 2–4 s. Cooling time is 6–12 s in a mold with high-conductivity aluminium or steel cores. The formulation is 100 parts H6030 natural resin, 2–3 phr titanium dioxide white masterbatch, and 0.2–0.5 phr slip/antiblock masterbatch using an LLDPE carrier. The carrier melt flow rate should be within ±10 g/10 min of the base resin to prevent flow-front disruption. Drying is not normally required. If condensation is present after outdoor storage above 60% RH, a 60–80°C dry-air drying step for 1–2 h is sufficient.
Food-contact status is controlled under FDA 21 CFR 177.1520(c) and Regulation (EU) No 10/2011. Overall migration for EU dairy contact is validated below 10 mg/dm² using EN 1186-1. The molded tub is tested for tensile yield strength under ASTM D638, with expected values 27–30 MPa, and flexural modulus under ASTM D790, expected 1250–1600 MPa. The terminal product is an opaque chilled dairy tub and snap-on lid rated for light stacking at 4°C.
Rectangular storage totes molded from H6030 develop warp when cavity pressure at gate freeze-off is uneven between center and end-flow regions. Tools for totes with wall thickness 1.8–3.0 mm use a hot runner with 4–6 valve gates or a cold runner with three-edge fan gates. Melt temperature is reduced to 190–210°C because the high 30 g/10 min melt flow rate already provides sufficient filling pressure. Mold temperature is held at 15–30°C. Injection velocity is profiled: first stage 60–80 mm/s fills the base, second stage 30–50 mm/s fills ribs and rim. Hold pressure is 25–40 MPa until the gate freezes. Cooling time is 18–30 s before ejection at part temperature below 60°C. Flow-direction shrinkage under ASTM D955 is 1.5–2.5%; transverse shrinkage is 1.8–2.5%. Warpage is measured as out-of-flat gap after 24 h at 23°C. Maximum acceptable gap for a 30 L tote is usually 2–4 mm depending on lid fit.
The formulation uses 100 parts H6030, 1–2 phr beige or grey pigment masterbatch, and 0.1–0.3 phr antistatic masterbatch. Calcium carbonate fillers are avoided above 5 phr because they increase post-mold shrinkage anisotropy. The terminal product is a stackable rectangular storage tote with molded-in label panels. Compliance is verified under REACH for SVHC content below 0.1 wt% per article and under RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU for lead 1000 mg/kg, cadmium 100 mg/kg, and mercury 1000 mg/kg.
On a 200–350 t hydraulic clamp machine, 10–20 L open-top paint pails are molded with wall thickness 1.5–2.5 mm and a three-stage injection velocity profile. The first stage fills the bottom and lower sidewall at 80–100 mm/s. The second stage fills the handle ear region at 40–60 mm/s. The third stage packs the rim at 20–30 mm/s. Melt temperature is 200–220°C, mold temperature 10–20°C, and cooling time 12–20 s. Pack/hold pressure is 30–50 MPa applied for 3–6 s. The gate system is a hot runner with 3–5 drops into the pail bottom. The formulation is 100 parts H6030, 0.5–1.5 phr UV stabilizer masterbatch, 1–4 phr pigment masterbatch, and 0.05–0.10 phr calcium stearate acid scavenger. Regrind from trimmed flash is added at 10–20 wt% only when the scrap stream is dry and free from lid gasket contamination.
The pail is tested for drop impact under ASTM D5276. A 20 L pail filled with water is conditioned at −18°C for 24 h and dropped from 1.2 m onto a concrete surface. The acceptance criterion is no crack in the sidewall or handle ear. Stack load is evaluated under ASTM D642 for compression resistance. The terminal product is a gasketed open-top pail for water-based paints, adhesives, and construction chemicals.

For laboratory consumables, H6030 is processed at the lower end of the melt-temperature window, 180–200°C, to limit degradation and plate-out in polished cavities. Wall thickness is 0.8–1.2 mm for specimen transport cups and Petri dish lids. The gate is a pin gate with diameter 0.6–1.0 mm and land length 0.5–0.8 mm. A shutoff nozzle is required to prevent stringing from the high 30 g/10 min melt flow rate. Injection speed is 60–100 mm/s. Pack pressure is 50–70 MPa for 2–4 s, then hold pressure 25–40 MPa for 1–3 s. Post-mold shrinkage at 24 h under ASTM D955 is 1.5–2.0% in flow direction. Parts are ejected at 45–55°C and allowed to stabilize on a flat cooling jig for 30–60 min.
The formulation is 100 parts H6030 and 0.2–0.6 phr antistatic masterbatch. Slip and antiblock additives are avoided because they can alter surface wettability and interfere with aqueous reagent contact. Compliance is verified under REACH and RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU. The terminal product is non-sterile laboratory plasticware. Published data for gamma-sterilized H6030 consumables is limited; dose tolerance must be validated under ISO 11137 before use in sterile clinical workflows.
When H6030 is molded into tamper-evident lids, the critical geometry is the hinge membrane with thickness 0.25–0.40 mm. The high melt flow rate of 30 g/10 min fills 16–32 cavities at an injection pressure of 60–80 MPa. Mold temperature is 10–15°C. Fill time is 0.3–0.6 s. The gate freezes in 0.5–1.0 s. Cooling time is 5–9 s. The formulation uses 100 parts H6030, 0.5–1.5 phr nucleating masterbatch with an HDPE carrier, and 1–2 phr pigment masterbatch. Nucleation increases crystallization rate but reduces impact at the hinge; loadings above 1.5 phr are not used for tamper-evident lids that must survive 20 manual open-close cycles.
Food-contact status is governed by FDA 21 CFR 177.1520(c) and Regulation (EU) No 10/2011. Tensile yield strength is checked under ASTM D638 at 27–30 MPa. The terminal product is a hinged tamper-evident lid for dairy spreads and dry grocery powders. HDPE hinge life is lower than polypropylene; applications requiring more than 50 flex cycles per lid should be rejected unless the hinge thickness is increased by at least 0.10 mm and tool steel surface roughness is held below Ra 0.4 µm.
