Automotive exterior cowl-vent grille validation programmes use LG Chem ASA LI923 at a base-resin loading of 100 phr. The resin is combined with a carbon-black masterbatch proportioned from 2.0 wt% to 4.0 wt% and a UV stabiliser masterbatch containing hindered amine light stabiliser at 0.4–1.2 phr; external mould-release agent is held at 0.1–0.3 phr to avoid interference with in-mould grained surface reproducibility. Regrind recovered from hot-runner sprues and short shots is restricted to ≤25 wt% because higher regrind fractions in multi-cavity automotive tools reduce Charpy notched impact measured to ISO 179-1:2010. Injection moulding cells with 1,300–1,800 t hydraulic clamping units and valve-gated hot runners pre-dry the pellets at 80–85°C to residual moisture below 0.05 wt%; barrel temperature zones are staged from 230°C at the feed throat to 245°C at the nozzle, with screw L/D maintained at 20:1 to 24:1. Melt temperature is not allowed to exceed 270°C because yellowing of the styrene-acrylonitrile phase becomes detectable to ISO 7724. As-moulded plaques cut from the grille lattice are tested for tensile modulus under ISO 527-2:2012, Charpy impact under ISO 179-1, Vicat softening under ISO 306 method A120, and heat deflection temperature under ISO 75-2. Exterior weathering acceptance follows SAE J2527 xenon arc exposure at a target of 2,500 kJ/m² at 340 nm, with ΔE measured to ISO 11664-4. Terminal parts include cowl-vent grilles, mirror scallop shells, B-pillar appliqués, and roof-mounted antenna cover bases.
For outdoor solar inverter shells and combiner-box bases, LI923 is process-selected for ultraviolet-stable dimensional retention without post-mould coating. The dry-blend formulation starts at 100 phr LI923, with 2.0–3.0 wt% carbon-black masterbatch to meet outdoor carbon-black loading practice and 0.4–0.8 phr high-molecular-weight HALS. Where the enclosure is specified for electronics access panels in dry outdoor compartments, an antistatic masterbatch at 1.5–2.5 wt% is added, but surface resistivity is verified under IEC 60093 because LI923 is not an inherently conductive grade. Enclosures are injected at wall thicknesses of 3.0–4.0 mm with gusset-supported bosses around threaded inserts. Moulding trials on 350 t electric toggle presses show that dual-gate weld lines with a melt-front meeting angle below 135° reduce Charpy notched impact under ISO 179-1/1eA; the correction is to move gates to enclosure corners and use sequential valve timing in the hot-runner system rather than elevate melt temperature. The compliance set includes UL 746C outdoor suitability with F1 weather resistance, UL 94 HB at minimum wall thickness, IEC 60529 IP65 gasket-plane flatness, ISO 4892-2 method A cycle 1 for UV/humidity, and RoHS recast 2011/65/EU Annex II substance restrictions assessed through IEC 62321 methods. Terminal parts produced from LI923 in this segment are solar inverter lower shells, DC combiner boxes, junction-box covers, and EV charger internal mounting plates.
Unfilled LI923 is used in injection-moulded outdoor HVAC condenser guard frames and louvre assemblies because the absence of glass-fibre reinforcement maintains a smooth low-gloss surface that resists dust adhesion. The blend consists of 100 phr LI923, a metal-oxide grey masterbatch at 2.0–3.0 wt%, and a hindered phenol/phosphite antioxidant package at 0.2–0.5 phr; a separately dosed black masterbatch at 1.5–2.0 wt% is added where roof-level UV resistance is required. Screw-recovery plasticating is set to maintain melt temperature at 235–250°C. This is critical because hot-runner shear heating in louvre rib tools can produce local melt-temperature overshoot; any zone above 270°C creates yellowing measured by ISO 7724 and gloss deviation across the louvre tips. A deeper processing conflict emerges in multi-louvre geometries with flow-length-to-wall-thickness ratios above 180:1. The pressure drop to the last louvre tip at 240°C can consume the available packing window, causing sink near louvre base bosses. Sequential valve gating is used to maintain flow-front velocity above 180 mm/s during the first 60% of fill; this is confirmed with cavity-pressure rise profiles rather than screw-position data. The compliance framework includes UL 94 HB, flexural modulus under ISO 178:2019, puncture energy under ISO 6603-1 for hail-impact simulation, and flexural creep modulus under ISO 899-2 where elevated ambient service loads are present. Terminal products are condenser side guards, louvre panels, fan grilles, and compressor inspection lids.

| Melt temperature | 230–245°C | >270°C | yellowing detectable under ISO 7724, gloss deviation |
| Mould temperature | 60–80°C | <40°C | cold-surface jetting, low weld-line strength |
| Packing pressure | 45–65 MPa | <30 MPa | sink marks at bosses and rib bases |
| Regrind fraction | ≤25 wt% | >35 wt% | Charpy impact reduction under ISO 179-1 |
Mullion end caps and glazing bead retainers injection-moulded from LI923 are dimensionally locked by a mould-shrinkage range of 0.5%–0.7% in the machine direction and 0.6%–0.8% transverse when processed at a mould temperature of 65°C; specimens for these values are prepared according to ISO 294-4. The white and beige fenestration component formulation uses 100 phr LI923, a titanium dioxide masterbatch at 3.0–5.0 wt%, and a UV absorber/HALS package at 0.5–1.0 phr; light-fastness qualification follows ISO 4892-2 method A cycle 1. The processing route is differentiated by high reproducibility of overmoulded snap-fit geometries rather than long-flow filling: 8–16-cavity tools are fed from cold split-runner systems, with screw forward time held between 4 s and 6 s to avoid overpacking hinge points. Compliance for fenestration hardware includes ISO 527-2 tensile modulus, ISO 179-1 Charpy impact at 23°C, and ISO 75-2 heat deflection temperature at 1.8 MPa; water-absorption checks are carried out to ISO 62 method 1 where the mullion cap operates as a drainage track. Terminal products are mullion end caps, screen-track close-out strips, glazing bead retainers, and transom covers.
Where recreational vehicle exterior accessory blanks are gated cavitation-balanced in four-cavity tools, LI923 is run at 100 phr with custom low-gloss or metallic colour masterbatch at 3.0–5.0 wt% and a UV package at 0.4–1.0 phr. The colour concentrates are formulated with light-stable pigments because automotive interior pigment packages are not automatically qualified for exterior exposure under SAE J2527. Published data specific to LI923 in matte RV trim is limited; the operating window described here is derived from ASA processing standards and should be confirmed with cavity-pressure trials on the specific tool. Processing uses 300–500 t injection presses with two-stage plunger injection to maintain melt homogeneity at 235–245°C; hot-runner gates are avoided on patterned low-gloss surfaces because gate vestige and blush are more visible than on grained automotive trims. Mould temperatures below 55°C produce flow lines in matte black components, while temperatures above 80°C extend cycle time without improving gloss control. The compliance set includes ISO 4892-2 for UV/humidity, ISO 527-2 tensile properties, ISO 179-1 Charpy impact at -30°C, and FMVSS 302 burn rate only for interior-mounted trim. Terminal parts are exterior storage-access hatch frames, roof air conditioner shrouds, side marker housings, and step-well outer trims.
Agricultural irrigation control boxes and valve enclosures moulded from LI923 are specified where PA6-GF30 grades fail outdoor tests due to fibre bloom and moisture-induced dimensional change. The substitution is made at 100 phr LI923, with carbon-black masterbatch at 2.5–3.5 wt%, a hindered phenol antioxidant at 0.2–0.4 phr, and internal mould release at 0.1–0.3 phr; no glass-fibre reinforcement is used, so the mould shrinkage is higher than PA6-GF30 and requires tool recutting from 0.3% to 0.6%. The recutting range should be validated on the production tool because gate size and part geometry dominate final shrinkage. Processing runs on 200–400 t injection presses with cold split-runner systems; production volumes rarely justify hot-runner investment. Desiccant drying at 80°C for 3–4 h is mandatory before feeding, and screw rotation is slowed to 80–100 rpm to prevent frictional heating. Compliance testing follows ISO 4892-2 UV exposure, ISO 179-1/1eA Charpy impact at -20°C, ISO 178 flexural modulus, and IEC 60529 IP65 flatness for gasket sealing. Terminal products are irrigation controller boxes, solenoid-valve lids, pump starter housings, and soil-moisture sensor enclosures.
