The following table aggregates publicly reported mid-range datasheet values for LG Chem ABS SH-600. The figures are not contractual specification limits and should be read as typical laboratory values with batch-to-batch variation. They are influenced by specimen preparation, gate design, and colour concentration. For design data, the supplier should be requested to provide a full ISO 10350:2015 property sheet rather than a truncated technical datasheet.

Pre-drying is the critical step before injection moulding. LG Chem ABS SH-600 absorbs atmospheric moisture; if the pellet moisture content exceeds 0.05 %, surface splay, silver streaking, and loss of gloss become visible after barrel plastication. A closed-loop dehumidifying hopper dryer with a dew point of −40 °C or lower is preferred; drying at 80 °C for 2 h to 4 h is common. On production-scale toggle-clamp machines of 80 t to 120 t clamp force, the barrel temperature profile is generally set from 200 °C at the feed zone to 230–250 °C at the nozzle, with the exact profile adjusted to screw recovery time and part mass. A general-purpose screw with L/D ≥ 20:1 and a compression ratio near 2.5:1 is adequate; compression ratios above 3.0:1 may generate excessive shear heat and trigger yellowing at high screw speeds. The mould temperature should be held between 30 °C and 60 °C. Higher mould temperatures aid surface replication and knit-line strength but increase cycle time and may produce sticking in untextured cores.
Material substitution from a high-impact ABS such as LG Chem HI-121H to SH-600 is not a drop-in change; the property difference is concentrated in the notched Izod and multi-axial impact response. If the housing has snap-fits, screw bosses, or cantilever latches, the part designer must evaluate the lower notched Izod value in the range of 20–25 kJ/m² against the actual assembly requirement rather than rely on a nominal flow advantage. At a wall thickness below 1.5 mm, the higher melt volume-flow rate of SH-600 reduces injection pressure and short-shot occurrence, but the reduced rubber content simultaneously decreases crack propagation resistance around gate vestiges and weld lines. Production experience with hydraulic injection machines suggests that moving from high-impact ABS to SH-600 can lower the required injection pressure for equivalent thin-wall fill length, but the benefit is partly offset by the need for more generous fillet radii at bosses and for higher melt temperatures at the last hold-pressure phase.
Design verification should follow tensile and impact tests according to ISO 527-2:2012 and ISO 180/A:2023 on specimens cut from actual mouldings, not only on standard multipurpose bars. If the target notched impact requirement exceeds 30 kJ/m², SH-600 is outside the substitution boundary. In short-duration, low-energy assembly impacts below 20 J, the notched Izod difference may not govern the failure mode; the part often fails at stress-concentrated bosses or weld lines before the intrinsic impact plateau of the material is reached. The tool design therefore exerts more influence than the choice between SH-600 and a high-impact grade for some office-automation housings.
Runners and sprues from SH-600 can be reground and reincorporated into the feedstock. The recommended regrind ratio is typically 20 % to 30 % by weight, provided that the regrind is clean, dry, and free of degraded material. If the moulded article is used in a colour-critical or tight-tolerance application, current lot documentation should be consulted because regrind shifts the hue, broadens shrinkage distribution, and reduces notched impact after repeated heat histories. Melt residence time should be limited to 300 s at melt temperatures below 250 °C; above that, free-radical degradation of the butadiene phase accelerates, increasing crosslinking and reducing flow consistency. In hot-runner systems, thermally isolated drops should be balanced within ±5 °C to avoid local decomposition and black speck formation.
Application selection for SH-600 typically favours indoor electronic enclosures, desk accessory parts, small appliance covers, and consumer housings where surface gloss is valued. In such applications, the material’s difference from high-impact ABS is less a limitation than a property trade-off: the specification load case is often a drop test or simple support bending during assembly. For short-duration impacts below 20 J, the part’s failure mode is frequently controlled by boss geometry, gate size, and weld-line position rather than by the material’s notched impact plateau. The grade should not be specified for load-bearing structural elements, glazing, or components requiring continuous ductile deformation.
ABS SH-600 is an amorphous styrenic terpolymer and is not recommended for continuous outdoor UV exposure. Without a UV stabiliser package or an applied capstock, discolouration and gloss loss occur after relatively short exposure; however, published accelerated weathering data for this specific grade are limited. Chemical resistance is moderate to dilute acids, alkalis, and aliphatic hydrocarbons, but the material is attacked by ketones, esters, aromatic hydrocarbons, and certain chlorinated solvents. Stress-cracking tests should be performed under the expected contact condition rather than extrapolated from immersion coupons. The material is typically electrically insulating, with volume resistivity near 10¹⁶ Ω·cm for unfilled ABS; surface resistivity and dielectric strength should be confirmed for the specific colour and thickness using IEC 62631-3-1:2016 or equivalent.
Flammability classification must be verified on the actual product and thickness; a general-purpose ABS such as SH-600 may be classified as UL 94 HB at a standard thickness, but no V-0 claim should be assumed without the current UL Yellow Card. Restriction of Hazardous Substances compliance is dependent on the supplier’s additive package; requests should reference Directive 2011/65/EU and its delegated Directive (EU) 2015/863. The material may be free of intentionally added substances of very high concern above the concentration threshold in REACH Article 33, but the final processor must confirm downstream substances of very high concern for the specific colour concentrate and production lot. Tool steel corrosion and wear are not exceptional with SH-600; standard P20 or hardened H13 cavities are sufficient. Venting depth should not exceed 0.03 mm to avoid flash, and general-purpose ABS requires venting at the melt front periphery and at the end-of-fill regions. If the design requires notched Izod above 30 kJ/m², continuous outdoor exposure, or food-contact certification, the grade is outside its operational boundary.
