KUMHO ASA XC263 is processed in this segment as a 100.0 wt% base resin where the acrylate rubber phase reduces double-bond degradation pathways present in butadiene-modified ABS. Weathering programs align with ISO 4892-2:2013, Method A, Cycle 1, using a xenon arc instrument at 0.51 W/(m²·nm) at 340 nm, black-standard temperature 65 °C, and alternating water spray. Color shift is measured with ASTM D2244-16 as CIELAB ΔE*ab; gloss on grained and smooth surfaces is measured with ASTM D523-14 at 60°. Owing to OEM divergences, some platforms request SAE J2527 or proprietary variants; published data for every specific OEM configuration is limited.
The standard formulation is 100.0 wt% ASA XC263. Color concentrates in an ASA/SAN carrier are dosed at 2.0–3.0 wt%; mold release or process aid at 0.2–0.5 wt%; black masterbatch at 1.5–2.5 wt% when a high-jetness appearance is not required. Regrind from runners and sprues is re-introduced at 10–15 wt% only after drying to ≤0.03% residual moisture and screening through a 6 mm granulator mesh. Carriers based on PE or EVA are not permitted because immiscible domains form surface defects and lower Charpy impact.
Molding is performed on three-zone injection screws with an L/D ratio of 20:1–22:1 and non-return valves. Drying is mandatory at 80–85 °C for 3–4 h, targeting residual moisture ≤0.02%. Nozzle temperature is held at 245–260 °C; barrel temperatures are profiled from 230 °C in the feed zone to 250 °C in the metering zone. Mold temperature is maintained at 60–80 °C to replicate VDI 3400 grained cavity surfaces; below 60 °C, gloss increases unpredictably and weld lines become visible; above 85 °C, mold fouling and part sticking occur. Injection velocity is profiled to fill 80–95% of cavity volume before switchover, with holding pressure at 800–1200 bar and holding time set to gate freeze. Hot-runner valve-gated systems are preferred for large trim parts because cold sprues increase regrind and gate blush.
Batch-to-batch variance in moisture level is the main rejection source; insufficient drying produces splay, while over-drying above 90 °C causes pellet bridging in the hopper. At melt temperatures above 270 °C, surface hazing and loss of notched impact resistance appear. Finished components include mirror housings, cowl vent grilles, roof drip rail covers, side garnishes, wheel arch claddings, and tailgate spoilers.
Outdoor antenna housings molded from ASA XC263 enter service with a dual requirement: UV-stable surface integrity without unnecessary signal attenuation in adjacent non-metallic zones. Compliance is anchored to UL 746C F1 outdoor suitability, IEC 60529 IP65 for dust and water-jet protection, IEC 60243-1:2013 for electric strength of solid insulating materials, and RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU Annex II. If the enclosure is installed in the EU and carries live telecommunication circuits, EN 62208:2011 for empty enclosures and IEC 60664-1 for insulation coordination may also apply.
The resin is processed neat at 100.0 wt% ASA XC263. Carbon black masterbatch is limited to 1.5–2.5 wt% because carbon black loadings above this level can reduce insulation resistance and increase RF absorption. If light colors are specified, titanium dioxide-bearing colorants at 2.0–3.0 wt% in ASA/SAN carrier are used; the resulting parts are opaque and UV-stable. Metallic inserts are allowed only when wall thickness around the insert exceeds 2.0 mm; otherwise differential shrinkage produces stress cracks. No flame-retardant additives are introduced because the base grade is not designed to meet V-0; if the final wall thickness requires V-0, a flame-retardant ASA or blend should replace the neat grade.
Insert molding and two-shot processes are common. Inserts are preheated to 90–110 °C, and mold temperature is held at 70–80 °C. Melt temperature is maintained at 240–250 °C; higher temperatures reduce melt viscosity but accelerate local surface oxidation around hot-runner gates. Valve-gated hot runners sequence fill to move weld lines away from seal compression surfaces and screw bosses. The packing phase is deliberately short to avoid over-packing at seal edges, which can leave residual stress and reduce IP65 gasket compression retention. Screw recovery speed is set to avoid air entrapment; screw decompression of 2–4 mm prevents nozzle drool.
Finished parts are base station antenna housings, small cell concealment covers, telemetry enclosures, distribution box covers, and weatherproof cable entry boxes. Published dielectric data for this resin across all frequencies is limited; validation is required for radome-transparent surfaces.

On coastal and high-irradiance installations, the outdoor condenser fan ring and louver guides are exposed to salt aerosols, condensing humidity, and high UV loading. Material acceptance is based on ISO 4892-2:2013 Method A, Cycle 1 for xenon arc weathering; ASTM D638-14 for tensile yield and elongation; ASTM D256-10 for notched Izod impact; and UL 94 HB at 3.0 mm as the typical minimum combustion classification for non-flame-retardant ASA in this segment. Some HVAC manufacturers impose their own cyclic salt-spray and thermal shock tests, but published data for salt-fog exposure across all proprietary protocols is limited.
The compound is processed at 100.0 wt% ASA XC263. A UV-stable grey masterbatch in ASA/SAN carrier is dosed at 2.0–3.5 wt%; no external plasticizer or mineral filler is used because plasticizer migration at high surface temperature increases shrinkage and lowers tensile retention. Regrind is limited to 10–15 wt%, and any reground fan ring that has already been exposed to UV should not be re-introduced because cumulative oxidation reduces weld-line strength.
Fan rings with outer diameters above 300 mm require sequential valve-gated hot runners to displace weld lines from the hub-to-blade transition. Melt temperature is set at 245–255 °C; mold temperature is maintained at 70–85 °C to obtain adequate flow length without excessive residual stress. Packing pressure is stepped in two stages to reduce sink marks at rib bases and louver intersections; screw decompression is controlled at 2–4 mm to prevent nozzle drool. Cooling time is based on wall thickness squared, with demolding temperature below 85 °C. A mold with conformal cooling channels in the hub region is used because the hub section is thicker than the blades and tends to retain heat.
Finished products include condenser fan rings, louver guides, side panels, motor support covers, and drainage baffles. The absence of butadiene unsaturation in the acrylate phase delays surface chalking compared with ABS under identical exposure.
In agricultural and horticultural power equipment, the crankshaft cover and blower housing are molded from ASA XC263 where sunlight, fuel vapor, and mechanical vibration act simultaneously. Impact acceptance is tested at cold temperatures by ASTM D256-10 notched Izod with specimens conditioned at -30 °C; weathering is validated against ISO 4892-2:2013 Method A, Cycle 1, with color change assessed by ASTM D2244-16; machine safety standard ISO 5395-1:2013 does not prescribe polymer grade but requires that plastic guards not shatter under impact and not degrade from fuel or oil exposure. The processing formulation is 100.0 wt% ASA XC263 with color concentrates at 2.0–3.0 wt% in ASA/SAN carrier; no impact modifier is added because the acrylate rubber phase provides low-temperature ductility. Injection molding uses melt temperatures between 240 °C and 255 °C and mold temperatures between 40 °C and 60 °C, sufficient to fill thick wall sections while avoiding long cycle times. The gate is positioned in a non-appearance area between boss and wall junction; gas-assisted packing may be used for box-like housings with thick bosses to reduce sink marks. Finished parts are mower engine covers, trimmer guard hoods, blower housing halves, and tractor hood side panels.

When substitution of powder-coated aluminum or glass-reinforced polyester is evaluated for marine deck hardware, ASA XC263 offers a UV-stable, moldable alternative for covers and ventilation components. The relevant material standards are ISO 4892-2:2013 Method A, Cycle 1 for xenon arc weathering, ASTM D256-10 for notched Izod impact at -40 °C, and ASTM D570-22 for 24 h water absorption; typical ASA water absorption is 0.30–0.40%. For recreational craft components, CE marking under the Recreational Craft Directive 2013/53/EU is the responsibility of the integrator; the polymer housing itself is not a harmonized sub-component but must satisfy material acceptance requirements set by the boat constructor.
Formulation ratio is 100.0 wt% ASA XC263 with a marine-grade color concentrate at 2.0–3.0 wt%; UV screening is already provided by the acrylate elastomer phase, and no carbon black is added in white or light-gray parts. Molding uses low-shear screw recovery and a back pressure of 5–10 bar; melt temperature is held at 240–250 °C, and mold temperature at 80 °C is necessary to minimize residual stress in flanges and through-hole bosses. Ultrasonic welding is used to join two-part hatches; weld joints require uniform melt depth of 0.4–0.6 mm. Finished product types include deck hatch covers, ventilation louvers, instrument console visors, rub strake sections, and weatherproof cable glands.
For exterior electrical junction boxes and photovoltaic cable glands, the selection of ASA XC263 rests on outdoor weather resistance, dimensional stability at elevated service temperature, and machinability of threaded assemblies. Compliance is verified under IEC 60529 for IP65/IP67 enclosure protection, EN 62208:2011 for empty enclosures, UL 746C F1 for outdoor suitability, and RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU Annex II restricted substances in homogeneous material. If the final assembly contains live terminals, the electrical insulation coordination follows IEC 60664-1; the plastic housing itself must pass the relevant glow-wire test only when specified by the end-product standard.
The processing formulation uses 100.0 wt% ASA XC263, with a black or dark gray masterbatch in ASA/SAN carrier at 1.5–2.5 wt% to avoid excessive carbon black loading that lowers insulation resistance. Wall thickness is kept at 2.5–4.0 mm; screw bosses for cover fixation are designed with outer diameter twice the screw major diameter and depth equal to 2.0–2.5 times the screw diameter to prevent boss cracking during torqueing. Injection molding is executed with melt temperature 240–255 °C and mold temperature 65–80 °C; unscrewing cores are required for internal threads to maintain ±0.05 mm pitch diameter tolerance. A two-stage packing profile reduces sink marks at the gland entry and weld lines at the cable entry ports. If UL 94 V-0 is required at the final wall thickness, neat ASA XC263 is not rated for that classification; a flame-retardant grade must be selected. Finished components are outdoor junction boxes, photovoltaic combiner box bases, cable gland bodies, and weatherproof enclosure covers.
