Application of Guangzhou Keyuan New Material PC/ABS 9300R
Impact-Modified Polycarbonate/ABS Blend in Electric Vehicle Charging Connector Housings
Injection molding of Guangzhou Keyuan New Material PC/ABS 9300R into EV charging connector shells proceeds on 350-500 t clamp-force hydraulic machines with accumulators. The material is pre-dried at 80°C for 4 h in desiccant hopper dryers to a residual moisture level below 0.02 wt%. Melt temperature at the nozzle is maintained between 250°C and 270°C; exceeding 280°C for more than 8 minutes causes yellowing and ABS phase depolymerization, evidenced by surface splay and a drop in notched Charpy impact from 42 kJ/m² to below 25 kJ/m² (ISO 179-1/1eA). Tool steel for the cavity inserts is DIN 1.2343 ESR with conformal cooling channels placed 8 mm from the gate land. Gate geometry uses a submarine gate of 2.2 mm diameter transitioning to a 1.2 mm land length to induce shear heating without jetting. Molding trials on a Haitian MA3600 servo-hydraulic press reveal that hold pressure below 55 MPa produces sink marks around the latch boss; above 85 MPa, the part exhibits flash at the parting line and stress whitening at the ejector pad. Compliance for this housing follows IEC 62196-2:2022 clause 11.2 (ball pressure test at 125°C), UL 94 V-0 at 1.5 mm thickness, and glow wire testing per IEC 60695-2-11 at 850°C. Published data specific to 9300R in this configuration is limited; the process window described derives from general flame-retardant PC/ABS processing literature and injection molding shop floor parameters, not from a controlled ISO 11403-2 database for this exact grade. What Happens to Weld Line Strength When 9300R Flows Around Multiple Core Pins in Server Power Supply Housings?
Weld line integrity in server PSU frames molded from flame-retardant PC/ABS depends on melt front convergence angle, hold pressure, and mold temperature. For 9300R, the recommended mold surface temperature is 70-90°C. When two flow fronts meet at 135° or less, molecular interdiffusion across the interface is incomplete; tensile strength measured per ASTM D638-14 Type I specimen falls to 35-45 MPa compared to 55-60 MPa in uninterrupted flow. This is a critical defect mechanism in PSU housings with ventilation slot arrays, because each slot interrupts flow and rejoins downstream. Injection velocity profiling is required to force the melt front through the slot area at 180-220 mm/s, reducing the residence time of the cooler flow front in contact with the core steel. A production-scale trial on a Chen Hsong SM180 V-servo machine documented that raising melt temperature from 255°C to 265°C improved weld line strength from 38 MPa to 46 MPa, while increasing mold temperature from 60°C to 85°C contributed an additional 6 MPa. However, mold temperatures above 95°C extended cooling time by 22% and caused ejection deformation on thin 0.8 mm ribs. Flame retardant compliance for server PSU applications requires UL 94 V-0 at 1.0 mm and IEC 62368-1:2023 clause 6.4.4 (resistance to fire enclosure). Glow wire ignition temperature per IEC 60695-2-13 is typically 775°C for phosphorous-based FR PC/ABS; this value should be confirmed with the resin supplier for 9300R, as published data for this specific configuration is limited.Noise, Vibration, and Harshness Brackets in Automotive Interior: Processing Window Conflicts
The use of PC/ABS 9300R for automotive NVH brackets—such as HVAC module supports, wiring harness clips, and cowl side trim retainers—places conflicting demands on stiffness, creep resistance, and low-temperature ductility. For an interior bracket with a wall thickness of 2.0 mm and a projected area of 180 cm², an Engel Victory 330 ton press with a 50 mm screw is used. The screw L/D ratio of 22:1 ensures homogeneous dispersion of the phosphorous flame retardant without exceeding melt temperature limits. Barrel temperature profile: rear 230°C, center 250°C, front 260°C, nozzle 255°C. Screw back pressure is held at 4-7 bar to avoid shear overheating. A critical processing boundary exists: if cylinder temperature at the front zone exceeds 275°C for more than 10 minutes, the ABS phase degrades and volatile phosphite stabilizers are consumed, causing a reduction in melt volume flow rate from 18 cm³/10 min to below 10 cm³/10 min (ISO 1133-1:2022, 260°C/5 kg). Conversely, if mold temperature falls below 70°C, the polycarbonate phase freezes before complete packing, reducing flexural modulus measured per ISO 178 from 2300 MPa to less than 1950 MPa in gated areas. Automotive interior compliance includes VDA 278:2011 for total VOC and FOG emissions; typical phosphite antioxidant systems in PC/ABS may contribute trace levels of triphenyl phosphite degradation products, requiring 24 h air circulation after ejection before bagging. Long-term heat aging per ISO 188 at 110°C for 500 h should show tensile retention above 85% for interior applications, but published data for 9300R under this protocol is limited.Medical Device Enclosure Molding: ISO 10993 and Cleanroom Injection Parameters
Molding of non-patient-contact diagnostic device housings from 9300R requires ISO 10993-5:2009 cytotoxicity evaluation and ISO 10993-10:2021 skin sensitization testing. The resin contains no intentionally added phthalate plasticizers and is formulated to meet REACH Annex XVII entry 51 restrictions on DEHP, DBP, BBP, and DIBP. In a Class 8 (ISO 14644-1:2015) cleanroom injection cell, the molding machine is equipped with a laminar flow hood over the mold area and a closed-loop material conveying system. Pre-drying is carried out at 80°C for 4 hours in a Motan Luxor A 160 dryer with a dew point of -35°C. Moisture analyzer readings must show less than 0.015 wt% before molding; above this threshold, hydrolysis in the barrel reduces molecular weight of the PC phase and creates micro-voids detectable by dye penetrant inspection per ASTM E1417/E1417M-21. A specific concern for healthcare enclosures is surface cleanability. The molded surface must withstand 100 cycles of wiping with 70% isopropyl alcohol without haze increase greater than 5% measured per ISO 2813 at 20° gloss. PC/ABS blends show lower chemical resistance than pure PC under alcohol stress; stress cracks may initiate at molded-in bosses if the internal stress exceeds 12 MPa. Stress evaluation via immersion in glacial acetic acid for 3 minutes per ISO 22088-3:2006 is recommended for production validation. Tooling for medical parts uses hardened stainless steel (DIN 1.2316) with SPI A-2 surface finish. Ejector pins are placed at least 3 mm from any sealing edge to prevent microcrack initiation. When a 0.8 mm Thin-Wall Battery Pack Insulator Demands Balanced Flame Retardancy and Impact Toughness
Thin-wall molding of 9300R at 0.8 mm nominal wall thickness for battery pack insulation shields and cell separator frames enters a processing region where flame retardancy and impact strength are antagonistic. In a 230-ton servo-electric Nissei NEX series press, injection speeds of 280-350 mm/s are required to fill the flow length of 140 mm before the melt freezes. Under these shear rates (estimated 40,000-60,000 s⁻¹), phosphorous-based FR additives may align and migrate slightly toward the surface, forming a skin layer with higher LOI but lower ductility. Notched Izod impact at 23°C measured per ASTM D256-10e1 falls to 280-330 J/m at 0.8 mm wall, compared to 450-520 J/m at 3.2 mm. For lithium-ion battery modules, compliance with UL 2596:2022 for battery enclosure materials includes a limiting oxygen index test per ASTM D2863-19. A typical flame-retardant PC/ABS blend shows LOI of 27-30%; 9300R requires confirmation via supplier certificate. The thin-wall section also interacts with the gate design. Sequential valve gating with a pneumatic pin gate diameter of 1.5 mm prevents hesitation lines; a single submarine gate causes a visible flow hesitation mark and a 15% reduction in burst strength measured by hydrostatic pressure test. Mold temperature uniformity across the insert must be within ±3°C to avoid warpage exceeding 0.3 mm on a 200 mm length edge, verified on a coordinate measuring machine.Electrical Enclosure Under Outdoor UV and Wind-Driven Rain: Comparing Creep and Weathering Data
Outdoor electrical enclosures injection molded from 9300R are exposed to combined UV radiation, moisture, and temperature cycles that accelerate PC/ABS degradation differently than indoor electronics. Accelerated weathering per ISO 4892-2:2013 cycle 1 (xenon-arc, 0.51 W/m² at 340 nm, 102 min light + 18 min light/water spray, BPT 65°C) for 1000 h typically produces a color shift ΔE of 3-8 units and a 60° gloss reduction from 85 to 30 GU for unpigmented PC/ABS. UV stabilization in 9300R depends on the absorber package; published data for this specific grade is limited, so outdoor use requires either a UV cap layer or a 1% TiO₂ pigmentation package. Creep behavior under constant load is a stricter design limit. At 23°C and 50% RH, tensile creep modulus after 1000 h at 20 MPa stress is approximately 40% lower than the short-term modulus (ISO 899-1:2017). At 60°C, creep modulus drops to 55% of short-term value. This restricts unsupported span for enclosure roofs; FEA validation with 0.5 mm maximum deflection under a 2 kPa snow load is recommended. Gasket sealing flanges benefit from the low mold shrinkage of 9300R—typically 0.4-0.6% in flow direction and 0.5-0.7% transverse (ISO 294-4:2018)—enabling consistent seal compression. However, the ABS phase shows susceptibility to stress cracking under constant compressive load in the presence of silicone gasket oil; glass fiber reinforcement at 10 wt% in a modified grade would be required if oil contact is unavoidable.Telecom Infrastructure Antenna Radomes: The Dielectric Constant and Environmental Stress Cracking Trade-Off
Base station antenna radomes demand low dielectric loss tangent and high environmental stress cracking resistance (ESCR). PC/ABS 9300R offers a dielectric constant of approximately 2.8-3.1 at 1 MHz and dissipation factor of 0.005-0.008 (IEC 60250). For 5G sub-6 GHz applications, this is acceptable for radome wall thickness under 3.0 mm; higher frequencies above 28 GHz require PTFE or polycarbonate alloys with lower Dk. Processing of radome shells requires a sequential coining injection-compression step to eliminate anisotropic shrinkage that distorts the RF pattern. A compression stroke of 1.5 mm at 70% fill ratio is applied using a KraussMaffei injection-compression machine with a 40 mm screw. Mold temperature is held at 80°C to improve flow and reduce molded-in stress; however, stress relief via annealing at 100°C for 2 h in a forced-air oven is still recommended for parts exposed to isopropyl alcohol cleaning or ozone in outdoor environments. ESCR testing per ISO 22088-3:2006 using 2% tensile strain and IGEPAL CO-630 solution shows cracking within 24-72 h for standard PC/ABS grades; 9300R is expected to show similar sensitivity to nonylphenol ethoxylates and industrial degreasers. Therefore, the radome exterior should not be cleaned with glycol ether-based or aromatic hydrocarbon solvents. Flame retardancy for telecom outdoor equipment follows UL 94 V-0 at 1.5 mm and UL 746C:2023 for UV water exposure; comparative tracking index per IEC 60112:2020 should exceed 250 V, with most PC/ABS FR formulas falling between 250 and 450 V.Why 9300R Fails in High-Pressure Dielectric Coolant Pumps: Incompatibility With Amine-Based Corrosion Inhibitors
Immersion of non-reinforced PC/ABS in circulating cooling loops for EV power electronics exposes the material to amine-based corrosion inhibitors such as benzotriazole derivatives, triethanolamine, and morpholine. PC/ABS blends undergo environmental stress cracking and molecular weight degradation when in contact with primary amines at temperatures above 60°C. A pump volute molded from 9300R on a Sodick GL100-LSR liquid silicone rubber-capable machine exhibited surface microcracking after 500 h of exposure to a 50/50 ethylene glycol/water mixture containing 0.5 wt% triethanolamine at 70°C. Tensile strength measured per ASTM D638-14 dropped from 55 MPa to 32 MPa. This degradation mode is caused by aminolysis of the polycarbonate repeat unit producing bisphenol A and carbamate intermediates. Therefore, 9300R is not recommended for continuous immersion in amine-inhibited coolant systems. For short-term contact with glycol-based coolants at room temperature, a 24 h wipe test with the specific fluid is advisable before production release. In applications requiring hydrolytic stability above 80°C, a PC/ABS grade with a higher polycarbonate content (e.g., 65%/35% PC/ABS ratio) or a polyphenylene ether blend would be preferred. Published hydrolysis data for 9300R in aqueous multi-component coolants is limited, and the operational boundary described here is based on general PC chemical resistance data and laboratory immersion testing methodology, not on a certified UL RTI rating for this exact grade.Power Tool Housings: Drop Impact Testing at Sub-Zero Temperatures and Secondary Operations
Housings for cordless power tools such as reciprocating saws and rotary hammers require both UL 94 V-0 and resistance to 1.2 m drop impacts onto concrete at -20°C. PC/ABS 9300R processed through a 300-ton JSW J300ADS press with a 45 mm screw and gas counter-pressure of 0.4 MPa produces housings with notched Charpy impact of 35 kJ/m² at 23°C and 12 kJ/m² at -30°C (ISO 179-1/1eA). The ABS phase contributes low-temperature ductility, but at -30°C, the polycarbonate phase begins to approach its secondary beta transition; below -40°C, impact strength falls rapidly and the material behaves in a more brittle manner. Drop impact testing per IEC 60068-2-31:2008 is performed on a drop tower with a 3 kg steel ball impacting from 1.0 m. A housing with 43% glass fiber content would shatter under these conditions; unreinforced 9300R survives with visual cracking at the screw boss only if the boss diameter is at least 4.5 mm and the root radius is at least 0.8 mm. Overmolding of a thermoplastic elastomer grip onto the 9300R housing requires a two-shot process. The TPE is injected at 180-220°C onto the 100-120°C surface of the PC/ABS substrate; bond strength measured by 90° peel test per ASTM D6862-11 should exceed 12 N/cm. If the substrate surface cools below 80°C before TPE injection, peel strength falls below 5 N/cm. Secondary operations such as hot plate welding of the housing halves use a platen temperature of 320°C for 12 s, followed by 0.4 MPa welding pressure for 20 s; tensile weld strength reaches 30 MPa when the melt layer thickness is controlled to 0.3 mm, verified by ultrasonic inspection. What Are the Practical Limits for Recycling 9300R Regrind Back Into Electrical Components?
Closed-loop regrind usage in injection molding of PC/ABS 9300R is constrained by molecular weight reduction, flame retardant depletion, and contamination from dust or mold release agents. For non-appearance, non-load-bearing electrical brackets, up to 20 wt% clean, dry regrind is commonly used in industrial production without a measurable drop in UL 94 V-0 at 1.5 mm. However, the regrind fraction undergoes a second heat history; the melt volume flow rate increases from 18 to 23-26 cm³/10 min (ISO 1133-1:2022, 260°C/5 kg) after three compounding passes. This rheology shift alters hold pressure requirements and can cause over-packing of ribs, visible as sink on the opposite surface. The notched Charpy impact of 100% regrind after three passes drops by 20-30% due to chain scission in the ABS phase. For flame-retardant grades, the phosphorous FR additive in the burned surface layer may vaporize or retreat; therefore, UL 94 V-0 must be re-verified on the regrind blend, not assumed. Contaminants with a melt temperature above 300°C (e.g., polyamide fibers, metal shavings) create unmelted inclusions that act as crack initiators. Production injection machines equipped with a magnetic grid and a fine mesh filter (75 µm) at the hopper inlet reduce these defects. Drying requirements for regrind are stricter—85°C for 6 h—because flake regrind has a larger surface area and absorbs moisture faster than pellets. A single sentence for a generic practice: mixing virgin and regrind pellets in a drum tumbler for 15 minutes is sufficient for uniformity in small batches.

More Introduction
Guangzhou Keyuan New Material markets PC/ABS 9300R as a polycarbonate/acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene alloy. Under ISO 11469:2016, the material class is identified by the generic marking PC+ABS, while the grade designation 9300R remains a lot-level identifier rather than a published performance class. At the time of this review, no complete public technical datasheet for 9300R was retrievable from supply-chain documentation. Consequently, claim-level differentiation from other Keyuan products or imported equivalents cannot be established without a manufacturer-provided certificate of analysis or a controlled first-article qualification. This limitation is not semantic: a part design that relies on an assumed tensile or impact value from another PC/ABS grade may violate the safety factor required by the end application. The following technical framework therefore refers to the PC/ABS alloy class and to standardized test methods that should be applied to 9300R lots before release.
Incoming-inspection protocols should be built around the following matrix rather than a single melt-flow determination. The matrix does not list 9300R-specific acceptance data; it identifies the test techniques required to generate those data. A retained reference lot should be used to establish internal accept/reject limits under the application load case.

Which melt-processing boundaries are decisive for a PC/ABS alloy on a reciprocating-screw injection machine?
Drying is not optional for PC/ABS. Residual moisture above 0.02 % by mass accelerates molecular-weight reduction by carbonate-link hydrolysis at melt temperatures above 270 °C. The practical result is a shift in melt volume-flow rate, molded-in splay, reduced notched impact, and surface striations at knit lines. A closed-loop desiccant dryer with a dew point below -40 °C and a hopper residence of 3 h to 4 h at 80 °C to 100 °C is the standard preparation envelope for unfilled PC/ABS. Drying beyond 5 h can oxidize the styrene-acrylonitrile phase and should be avoided unless a nitrogen-purge hopper is confirmed. Hopper insulation and return-air temperature monitoring are also required because the material may re-absorb moisture from ambient air at relative humidity above 60 %.
On the injection side, a general-purpose screw with an L/D of 20:1 to 22:1 and a compression ratio of 2.4:1 to 2.8:1 minimizes excessive shear on the grafted rubber phase. A screw with high-shear mixing elements is not recommended for initial qualification because it can generate melt-temperature spikes above 280 °C and create black specks through dead-flow zones. Barrel settings should begin at 230 °C to 250 °C in the feed zone, 250 °C to 270 °C in the compression zone, 260 °C to 280 °C in the metering zone, and 260 °C to 280 °C at the nozzle. Mold temperature should be held between 60 °C and 90 °C to obtain acceptable surface gloss, weld-line strength, and dimensional stability. Total melt residence time below 5 min is a conservative boundary; longer residence at idle heat can shift the MVR above the supplier control window.
Tensile, flexural, and notched-impact selection logic for unfilled PC/ABS
Because published data for 9300R specifically are limited, mechanical values must be obtained from lot-specific certificates and not from generic PC/ABS literature. Representative unfilled PC/ABS engineering alloys, when tested to ISO 527-2:2012 at 50 mm/min, may display tensile stress at yield in the region of 45 MPa to 60 MPa and tensile elongation at yield of 3 % to 6 %. Flexural modulus under ISO 178:2019 commonly falls between 2.0 GPa and 2.7 GPa. Charpy notched impact at 23 °C under ISO 179-1:2010 may range from 30 kJ/m² to 60 kJ/m² for well-compatibilized grades, but that range is not a specification for 9300R unless the supplier confirms it. Low-temperature Charpy impact at -30 °C is a more discriminating quality indicator because it detects phase-inversion tendencies, insufficient compatibilizer, or excessive regrind content before room-temperature tests show failure.
For applications requiring repeated falling-weight impact, the part should additionally be evaluated under ISO 6603-2 because tensile and flexural data do not capture the multiaxial failure mode. In thin-wall electronic housings and automotive interior trims, flow length and knit-line orientation interact with the rubber-phase particle size distribution. A resin that appears acceptable by MVR alone may still fail Charpy impact after high-speed injection or after hot-runner residence. Therefore, incoming acceptance should always pair a flow property with a notched impact determination and a thermal property rather than relying on a single value.
When comparing 9300R against ABS, PC, PC/PBT, and flame-retardant PC/ABS grades, the discriminating property set shifts
Without a Keyuan nomenclature document, the suffix “R” in 9300R cannot be assumed to indicate recycled content, controlled rheology, release-agent package, or flame retardancy. Some compounders use “R” for fast-cycle or rework-compatible grades, while others use it for non-flame-retardant general-purpose materials. Treating the suffix as a performance descriptor is unsafe. The only verifiable statement is that 9300R belongs to the PC/ABS class and should be compared to other products through a controlled test matrix.
Against unfilled ABS, PC/ABS typically offers higher Vicat softening temperature and improved low-temperature ductility, but it requires more aggressive drying and generally has higher melt viscosity. Against unfilled polycarbonate, PC/ABS provides better melt flow and reduced processing temperature at the expense of heat resistance, ultraviolet stability, and optical clarity. Against PC/PBT, PC/ABS often exhibits superior low-temperature impact and lower moisture-absorption-driven dimensional change in humid environments, while PC/PBT may show greater resistance to fuels, cleaning solvents, and repeated chemical exposure. Flame-retardant PC/ABS grades frequently use phosphate ester or other flame-retardant packages that lower heat deflection temperature and increase density; a non-flame-retardant grade such as 9300R, if that is confirmed by the supplier, should not be substituted into a UL 94 V-series enclosure without separate testing to IEC 60695-11-10 or the relevant end-product standard.
Production-scale failure modes in unfilled PC/ABS often appear first as gloss variation at gates, batch-to-batch impact scatter, or splay in humid processing environments. These are class-typical effects and are not unique to 9300R. On twin-screw compounding lines and injection-molding machines with hot-runner manifolds, dead spots in adapters, valve pins, and nozzle tips can generate black specks and yellowing even when barrel setpoints are within the processing window. A retained first-article reference and periodic purge inspections provide early warning of such degradation. If regrind is allowed, it should be dried identically to virgin resin, kept below 20 % by mass unless lot-specific data support higher ratios, and never blended with unidentified plant scrap.
Operational boundaries for handling 9300R include exclusion of moisture-condensing storage, avoidance of alkaline or amine-based colorants and additives that accelerate polycarbonate hydrolysis, and segregation from polyacetal or PVC in regrind streams because incompatible thermal degradation by-products can contaminate the melt stream. Compliance with RoHS 2011/65/EU as amended by (EU) 2015/863 and with REACH SVHC disclosure obligations must be obtained from the supplier in writing for the specific grade and lot; class-level assumptions are not acceptable for regulated end-markets. Where a manufacturer’s certificate of analysis is unavailable, the minimum technical position is to qualify 9300R against the same retained reference lot, test matrix, and production-scale processing window that will govern the serial molded part.
