In low-pressure injection moulding of instrument panel lower carriers and glove box structural frames, the processing window for Guangzhou Keyuan New Material PC/ABS 9300LC is set by three independently verified limits: melt temperature within 245–270°C, cooling gallery temperature between 50°C and 70°C, and residual moisture below 0.02 wt% after desiccant drying at 90–105°C for 4–6 h with a desiccant bed exposing the pellet stream to air at -35°C dew point or lower. Moisture verification follows ISO 15512:2019 Method A. The moulder-controlled composition ratio is maintained at 85 wt% virgin 9300LC pellet, 15 wt% closed-loop regrind from sprues and post-gate trimming, and 0.5–1.5 wt% demoulding masterbatch selected to reduce ejection force without transferring to class-A skin surfaces. The 15 wt% regrind cap is conservative for PC/ABS because repeated heat history can shift melt volume-flow rate and low-temperature Izod distribution; exact change for 9300LC must be confirmed by ISO 1133-1:2022 and ISO 180:2023 because published data for this specific compound in instrument panel carrier geometry is limited. Injection is carried out on a hydraulic clamp machine with a clamp force of at least 6,000 kN for a projected area of approximately 1,850 cm², using a 22:1 L/D general-purpose screw with a 90 mm diameter. Cavity pressure at velocity-to-pressure switch-over is 65–75 MPa, achieved by a filling time of 2.5–3.5 s; holding pressure is then maintained at 45–55 MPa for 4–6 s. Process engineers monitor screw recovery time and cushion position because PC/ABS degrades when total residence time exceeds 8 min at 270°C, producing acrid odour and brown streaks at the gate. Compliance for automotive interior installations includes FMVSS 302 horizontal burn rate, VDA 278:2011 for volatile and semi-volatile organic compound emission, and VDA 270:2016 for odour at 80°C. The terminal component, a demoulded instrument panel lower carrier with HVAC duct bosses, receives M6 threaded inserts that must resist pull-out above 1,200 N; boss design uses an outer diameter-to-hole ratio of 2.0:1 to limit hoop stress cracking. After insert installation, the part is checked for surface gloss variation and weld-line depth at the airbag chute boundary, where weld-line strength is measured by ISO 527-2:2012 tensile bars cut across the flow front.
Medical diagnostic monitor enclosures and point-of-care cart housings use PC/ABS 9300LC where impact resistance, flame propagation resistance, and disinfectant compatibility must be balanced within a single moulded wall. The moulder-controlled ratio in cleanroom production is held at 95 wt% virgin pellet to 5 wt% in-line regrind, and external release spray is excluded because transfer can change surface energy and compromise adhesive bonding of EMI shielding tape. The melt is plasticated through a 35 mm barrier screw at 255 ±5°C, with a back pressure of 0.6 MPa and a dosing speed of 0.08 m/s; these settings maintain shot-to-shot weight variation below 0.15%. The mould uses 0.8 mm valve gates and is held at 70°C with turbulent water channels sized to maintain a temperature deviation of less than 2°C across the cavity. Because PC/ABS is notch sensitive below 0°C, corner radii are held to 2.5 mm minimum unless drop testing demonstrates otherwise. Compliance for medical enclosures includes IEC 60601-1:2005/AMD2:2020 for medical electrical equipment, ISO 10993-5:2009 for cytotoxicity, and ISO 10993-10:2021 for intracutaneous reactivity when skin contact exceeds 24 h. Where the housing is wiped with quaternary ammonium disinfectant, environmental stress cracking resistance is benchmarked by ISO 22088-3:2006 using 0.6% strain and 0.5% active quaternary ammonium solution; published data for 9300LC in this exact disinfectant-loaded configuration is limited, so a patch test under production clamp force is required. The finished point-of-care cart housing is subjected to 5,000 cycles of lid opening at 45 N load and must survive a 1.0 m drop test after conditioning at -20°C for 4 h per IEC 60068-2-31:2008 procedural guidance. Brass inserts are ultrasonically installed at 20 kHz, and pull-out strength is specified above 800 N. The processing bottleneck observed on production lines is gate blush behind valve gates; delaying valve-gate open by 0.3 s reduces the defect but increases cavity pressure variation, so process capability is verified by measuring 30 consecutive shots against a 0.15% shot-weight warning limit.
Power tool clamshell moulding for 18 V lithium-ion impact drivers introduces a processing conflict: wall thickness between 2.0 mm and 2.5 mm demands low melt viscosity to fill long ribs and screw bosses, but excessive shear heating can exceed the 280°C degradation threshold of PC/ABS. Production-scale data from injection moulding lines with 3,500 kN clamping force and 14,000 mm/s injection velocity indicate that nozzle melt temperature is maintained at 260 ±5°C, while an eight-drop hot runner manifold is set 5–10°C below the nozzle temperature to avoid stagnation in corner drops. The mould temperature upper limit is 75°C; above this value rib ejection becomes difficult, and sink depth at screw bosses deepens by 0.05–0.15 mm. The downstream formulation ratio is 90 wt% natural 9300LC, 8 wt% pulverised post-industrial regrind, and 2 wt% pigment masterbatch with a melt volume-flow rate not exceeding 10 cm³/10 min at 260°C and 2.16 kg per ISO 1133-1:2022, which prevents lubricant-type masterbatches from lowering service modulus. Drying is carried out in a hopper dryer with air flow of 3.5 m³/h per kg/h throughput for 4 h at 95°C; pellets above 0.03 wt% water produce silver streaks on textured surfaces. Flame retardance is verified by UL 94 HB or V-1 at 1.5 mm depending on colour, with UL 746C outdoor suitability evaluated when the tool is specified for weather-exposed service. Mechanical compliance anchors include ISO 180:2023 unnotched Izod at 23°C and -30°C for gearbox seat impact, and IEC 60745-1 / EN 62841-1 drop test for hand-held motor-operated tools. The finished clamshell halves are assembled with 6–8 mm ultrasonically welded joints at 30 kHz, and parting-line weld strength must exceed 25 N/mm² in tensile lap shear. The observed process bottleneck is gate blush on high-gloss surfaces from valve-gate timing; adjusting valve-gate open delay to 0.3 s and pack delay to 0.8 s reduces blush but narrows the packing window by 0.2 s, requiring real-time cavity pressure monitoring on a minimum of 20 shots after each tooling change.
Low-voltage switchgear and terminal box enclosures are evaluated for PC/ABS 9300LC when the designer must replace painted steel without sacrificing structural stiffness or electrical tracking resistance. If the LC designation is interpreted as a low-chlorine variant, the restrictive acceptance criterion is total chlorine below 900 mg/kg by oxygen bomb digestion and ion chromatography per EN 14582:2016; without a low-chlorine claim, the grade is treated as standard PC/ABS under IEC 61439-1:2020 insulation requirements. The moulder-controlled ratio is 92 wt% virgin 9300LC, 6 wt% reground sprues from glow-wire tested plaques, and 2 wt% UV-stabilised carbon black masterbatch for outdoor cabinet platforms. Melt temperature is set at 250–265°C, mould temperature at 65°C, and injection speed is reduced to 80–120 mm/s to prevent jetting in deep terminal barrier walls. For terminal boxes with wall thickness from 2.0 mm to 3.0 mm, cooling time after fill is 18–24 s and is confirmed by dimensional stability using ISO 294-4:2018 shrinkage measurements after 48 h at 23°C. The finished enclosure is tested for glow-wire ignition temperature, comparative tracking index, and impact at low temperature; the relevant standard matrix is shown below.
| Standard | Method/Clause | Parameter | Acceptance criterion |
|---|---|---|---|
| IEC 60695-2-11:2021 | Glow-wire | Ignition temperature | 960°C at 2.0 mm |
| IEC 60112:2020 | Tracking index | CTI classification | Must meet 250 V unless the part is unconditioned |
| IEC 61439-1:2020 | Mechanical impact | Enclosure integrity | No crack after 2 J impact at -25°C |
| EN 14582:2016 | Combustion/IC | Total chlorine | Below 900 mg/kg if low-chlorine claim is made |
| RoHS 2011/65/EU | XRF screening | Pb/Cd/Hg | 100/100/100 mg/kg homogeneous material |
The production bottleneck in switchgear enclosure moulding is gate blush at thick terminal bosses combined with class-A visual requirements for the front face. This is managed by moving the gate to the non-visible rear wall and increasing the land length to 1.5 mm; the trade-off is a 5–10% increase in injection pressure. Terminal insert retention is validated by pull-out testing above 450 N for M4 brass inserts, and creep resistance at 80°C is monitored by ISO 899-1:2020 tensile creep testing because enclosure covers are under continuous latch stress. Published data for 9300LC in specific 61439 terminal box geometries is limited, so prototype validation with glow-wire and CTI specimens is required before production release.
When a thin-wall tablet rear housing moves from aluminium substrate to PC/ABS 9300LC, the grade is selected for heat resistance, paint-free texture replication, and post-mould dimensional stability. The required wall thickness is 1.0–1.4 mm, so the material is processed at the high end of its melt temperature window, 265–275°C, with a fast injection speed of 180–250 mm/s and a mould temperature of 80°C. The moulder-controlled ratio is 100 wt% virgin pellet for first-surface parts; any regrind is segregated to internal standoffs and antenna carrier subcomponents, where the same material is used at 85 wt% virgin to 15 wt% regrind. This segregation is necessary because the visible surface is textured with a chemical etch equivalent to VDI 24–27, and regrind-induced gel particles create crater defects above 0.02 mm. The mould is a 4-cavity hot runner tool with valve gates placed at the centre of the flat rear surface, and the tool is run on a high-speed injection machine with a clamp force of 4,500 kN. Packing pressure is limited to 40–50 MPa for 1.2 s because excessive packing increases flatness deviation beyond the 0.3 mm gap-and-step allowance tested per ISO 1101:2017. Compliance for the finished consumer electronics housing includes IEC 62368-1:2023 for audio/video and ICT equipment safety, RoHS 2011/65/EU Annex II via XRF screening, and REACH Annex XVII restriction 72 for phthalates where flexible overmoulded gaskets are used. The finished tablet rear housing receives adhesive-bonded battery brackets and must withstand a 0.5 m drop onto concrete after 24 h at 60% relative humidity without cracking at the antenna window. Mechanical properties are verified by ISO 527-2:2012 tensile testing at 50 mm/min and ISO 178:2019 flexural testing at 2 mm/min; published data for 9300LC in this exact thin-wall tablet configuration is limited, so process capability is established by measuring 50 consecutive shots for flatness and gate blush before design freeze.
Washing machine control panel frames and detergent dispenser mounting plates are moulded in PC/ABS 9300LC because the alloy offers better low-temperature ductility than mineral-filled polypropylene and better flow than high-viscosity polycarbonate. The control panel frame is a high-gloss black part with wall thickness between 2.0 mm and 2.8 mm; the mould is run at 75°C with a melt temperature of 255–265°C. The downstream composition ratio is 88 wt% virgin 9300LC, 10 wt% in-house regrind from rejected control panel frames, and 2 wt% high-gloss black masterbatch; the regrind fraction is limited because three heat cycles on the same material reduce Izod notched impact measured by ISO 180:2023 at -20°C. Drying is conducted for 5 h at 95°C in a closed-loop desiccant system, and the hopper is purged with dry air at -40°C dew point. The process uses sequential valve gating to eliminate weld lines in the detergent drawer opening; valve gate delay is set to 0.4 s and the packing pressure is 50 MPa for 3 s. Because detergent spills and household cleaners contact the panel, resistance is tested by ISO 22088-3:2006 environmental stress cracking with 1.0% sodium alkylbenzene sulfonate solution at 60°C for 24 h. Scratch resistance is benchmarked by ISO 1518-1:2019 using a 1.0 mm scratch tip under progressive load; high-gloss PC/ABS can show stress whitening at loads above 10 N, so a clear hardcoat may be required for premium front panels. Compliance for unattended white-good enclosures includes IEC 60335-1:2020. The finished washer control panel must survive 50,000 cycles of detergent drawer opening at 25 N load and 2,000 cycles of button actuation; the button bosses are film-gated to minimise sink and are validated by cross-section microscopy against a 0.02 mm maximum sink threshold. Published data for 9300LC in this exact detergent dispenser configuration is limited, so chemical resistance under hot alkaline detergent and scratch resistance under the target front-panel texture should be confirmed on production tools before series approval.

Guangzhou Keyuan New Material PC/ABS 9300LC is supplied as an unfilled polycarbonate/acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene alloy intended for injection-molded structural components. The designation 9300LC is a manufacturer-specific grade code; the suffix LC should not be read as a low-chlorine or lot-controlled claim unless it appears on the certificate of analysis. Published lot-specific data for this exact designation are limited, so incoming lots should be qualified against the current technical datasheet, retained sample, and the reference values in ISO 1133-1:2022 and ISO 15512:2019.
The material-class reference envelope for unfilled PC/ABS injection-molding grades is given below. The values are not certified lot-specific minima for 9300LC; they are provided as a qualification framework until the manufacturer’s current datasheet is available.

Thermal history is the limiting variable. In PC/ABS alloys, the ABS phase retains butadiene-derived unsaturated sites that degrade under repeated melt exposure, while the polycarbonate phase hydrolyzes when wet feedstock enters the barrel. In production-scale injection molding of thin-wall parts below 1.5 mm, shear heating raises actual melt temperature 10–15 °C above the rear-barrel set point. A barrel profile ending at 260 °C can deliver melt at 272–275 °C, leaving a narrow margin below the 280 °C threshold at which discoloration and impact loss accelerate. This is a processing conflict: the high melt temperature required for thin-wall filling conflicts with the low residence time required to prevent chain scission.
Regrind fraction therefore functions as a stress concentrator and viscosity modifier. Regrind particles from thick sprues can have molecular weight reduced by one or more heat histories. A 20 wt% addition of in-house regrind may lower notched Izod at 23 °C by 10–25% relative to virgin pellets, depending on the number of heat histories and residual moisture. The effect is measured by ISO 180:2023. For impact-critical moldings, regrind content should be limited to 10 wt% unless each lot is validated; for nonstructural appearance parts, 20 wt% may be acceptable only after weld-line tensile testing under ISO 527-2:2012.
Weld-line performance is especially sensitive. In a 1.2 mm housing with a hole or slot, the fountain-flow fronts meet at a low-temperature boundary; regrind containing degraded rubber particles reduces entanglement density at that boundary. Fractographic comparison of virgin and regrind-containing moldings often shows a transition from ductile tearing to brittle crack propagation at the weld line. The notched Izod value may remain within specification while weld-line tensile strength falls below 40 MPa. This divergence is why lot acceptance should include a cavity-pressure sensor trace and a weld-line location check rather than reliance on bulk mechanical data alone.
Residence time control uses shot-size discipline. For a 35 mm diameter screw on a 1000 kN machine, a shot weight below 25% of barrel capacity increases the average residence time and the risk of stagnation in the compression zone. Processors should use a screw with L/D of 20:1 to 22:1, non-return valve clearance below 0.2 mm, and no dead spots in the nozzle. A barrel-temperature profile of 230–250 °C in the rear zones and 255–265 °C in the front zones, with the nozzle held at 260 °C, is a conservative starting point for 9300LC. If the mold requires melt temperature above 270 °C to fill thin sections, the regrind fraction should be reduced to zero until capillary rheometry under ISO 11443:2021 confirms viscosity retention.
In twin-screw compounding of PC/ABS alloys, the polycarbonate phase is melted in the first 10–12 D of a 40–52 L/D co-rotating extruder, while the ABS phase may be introduced downstream to limit exposure to the high-temperature polycarbonate melt zone. Vacuum devolatilization at −0.08 to −0.09 MPa is applied after the kneading blocks to remove residual styrene and moisture. Screw speed and throughput are balanced to keep specific mechanical energy input in the range of 0.15–0.25 kWh/kg; higher energy input raises melt temperature and degrades the rubber phase. The compounded strand is cooled, pelletized, and dried to a moisture content below 0.02 wt% before packaging.
Batch-to-batch variation in melt volume-flow rate is a measurable processing risk. If the MVR at 260 °C/5 kg shifts more than ±10% from the certified value, cavity-pressure curves in a thin-wall mold will shift correspondingly, producing short shots or flash. A standardized incoming inspection protocol should record MVR under ISO 1133-1:2022, residual moisture under ISO 15512:2019, and notched Izod under ISO 180:2023 on a dried, color-stable sampling lot. The compounder’s certificate of analysis alone does not capture moisture uptake during transport or warehouse storage at relative humidity above 60%.
PC/ABS 9300LC is moisture-sensitive because the polycarbonate phase undergoes hydrolysis at melt temperatures above 240 °C when residual moisture exceeds 0.02 wt%. The drying specification should require a desiccant dryer with dew point at −30 °C or lower, an air temperature of 80 °C ±5 °C, and a residence time of 3–4 h for virgin pellets. If the material has been stored in an open hopper at relative humidity above 60%, drying should extend to 4–6 h; an insulated hopper and return-air temperature monitoring prevent condensation in the feedstock. The residual moisture limit should be verified by ISO 15512:2019 method B or equivalent coulometric Karl Fischer method, because weight-loss methods may mistake volatile loss for moisture.
Moisture-induced hydrolysis manifests as silver streaks and splay at the gate, not only on the surface. In a 2.0 mm tensile bar, residual moisture of 0.04 wt% can reduce tensile elongation at break from 50% to below 20% and lower notched Izod by 20–30%. The molecular weight of the polycarbonate phase decreases by cleavage at carbonate linkages; the ABS phase is less affected, so the material may still fill the mold while the part fails in impact or chemical stress-crack testing. This selective degradation makes visual acceptance insufficient for 9300LC parts used in load-bearing clips or snap fits.
If the drying system cannot hold the return-air dew point below −20 °C in continuous operation, the hopper residence time should be reduced and the material feeder should be purged before startup. A cold hopper inlet below 60 °C does not dry effectively; heated air must reach the pellet bed with sufficient pressure drop. For thin-wall 9300LC parts, deviations from the drying specification shift the processing window because hydrolyzed polycarbonate produces lower viscosity in the melt, false short-shot mitigation, and a brittle part that passes visual inspection.
Application environments for 9300LC include indoor electronics housings, appliance structural frames, and automotive interior trim where unpainted surfaces and moderate chemical exposure are required. The material is not a direct substitute for neat polycarbonate when transparency, continuous service above 120 °C, or extreme dimensional stability under load are required. The lower melt viscosity of PC/ABS permits filling of 0.8–1.2 mm walls with lower injection pressure than neat polycarbonate, but the heat deflection temperature under 1.8 MPa is generally 10–20 °C lower. Selection should compare Vicat softening temperature by ISO 306:2022 and HDT by ISO 75-2:2013 to the application’s upper service temperature.
Compared with general-purpose ABS, 9300LC is expected to have higher tensile stress at yield and notched Izod at 23 °C. Compared with PC/ASA, 9300LC is not recommended for unpainted exterior parts because the ABS butadiene phase is more sensitive to ultraviolet oxidation. If the application includes continuous outdoor UV exposure, a PC/ASA or painted PC/ABS alternative should be qualified using ISO 4892-2:2021 exposure cycling. Direct numerical differentiation between 9300LC and other Keyuan PC/ABS grades is not publicly available; material selectors should request side-by-side data for MVR under ISO 1133-1:2022, notched Izod under ISO 180:2023, and Vicat B50 under ISO 306:2022 rather than relying on grade numbering. The primary practical differences observed in the field are flow class, low-temperature impact retention, and the presence or absence of flame-retardant additives.
For flame-retardant applications, 9300LC should not be assumed to meet UL 94 V-0 unless the specific compound has a yellow card listing. Some PC/ABS grades can achieve V-0 at 1.5 mm with phosphate-based flame-retardant packages, but these packages reduce notched Izod and Vicat softening temperature relative to non-FR PC/ABS. Request the UL yellow card and measure after flame time according to UL 94 vertical burn test at the end-use thickness, not at a generic 3.0 mm coupon.
Chemical compatibility testing matters for housings exposed to hand creams, cleaning agents, and isopropanol. PC/ABS is prone to environmental stress cracking under molded-in stress when a chemical agent contacts a high-tension boss or weld line. A screening test under ASTM D543-21 at constant strain should be followed by full-part testing at the maximum assembly strain. For a snap-fit feature, a 0.5% outer-fiber strain may be sufficient to reduce time to crack in the presence of isopropanol; the same feature may tolerate 1% strain indoors with no solvent contact. This stress/chemical coupling is a primary difference between 9300LC and neat ABS or polypropylene, which may be less notch-sensitive but lack the same heat resistance.
The following release checks are applicable when 9300LC is used in indoor housings with mechanical assembly loads.

When the housing includes thermal cycling, qualification should include 500 cycles from −40 °C to 85 °C with a 1.0 °C/min ramp and 30 min soak. Cracking at bosses or weld lines during this sequence indicates that the material, gate location, or regrind fraction has not been validated for the application. The test record should include the mold temperature, injection velocity, and peak cavity pressure for each lot because these variables interact with the PC/ABS phase morphology.
