Application of Guangzhou Keyuan New Material ABS 810K

Processing Windows at Wall Sections Below 2.0mm in Consumer Electronics Enclosure Production

At nominal wall sections of 1.2–2.0 mm, the filling behavior of ABS 810K within multi-cavity router and set-top box tools is governed by viscosity-shear relationships measurable under ISO 1133-1:2022, which positions the grade within a melt flow rate band of 20–35 g/10 min at 220°C/10 kg. Production-scale injection molding operations running four-drop hot-runner systems with manifold temperatures maintained at 240–255°C and thermal uniformity within ±2°C have demonstrated that gate freeze-off time at a 2.0 mm wall section falls in the 1.8–2.5 second range, establishing a practical minimum cycle time of 28–32 seconds regardless of cooling capacity. Compliance for enclosures in this category is anchored to IEC 62368-1:2023, specifically Clause 6.4 governing fire enclosure requirements for information technology equipment, with UL 94 HB accepted as the baseline flammability classification; where end-equipment specifications require UL 94 V-0, a brominated flame retardant masterbatch is compounded at 18–22 wt% alongside antimony trioxide synergist at 5–7 wt%, though published data for this specific configuration is limited and compatibility validation is mandatory. Formulation addition ratios for non-flame-rated enclosures typically hold ABS 810K neat at 97.5–100 wt% of the final compound, with pigment masterbatch at 0.5–2.5 wt%, internal lubricant such as ethylene bis-stearamide at 0.1–0.3 wt%, and optionally 10–15 wt% of documented post-industrial regrind generated from the same tooling family. The downstream production process employs reciprocating-screw injection molding machines with screw L/D ratios of 20:1–24:1, compression ratios of 2.0:1–2.5:1, and non-return check rings of three-piece construction; injection velocities exceeding 120 mm/s at melt temperatures above 260°C have been associated with gate blush and localized material degradation manifesting as silver streaking at the gate perimeter. Terminal product types produced under this processing envelope include WiFi router housings, set-top box enclosures, monitor bezels, keyboard frames, and smart speaker housings. Thermal degradation onset becomes detectable via color shift and melt pressure instability when cumulative residence time at temperatures above 250°C exceeds 10 minutes; pre-drying at 80–90°C for 2–4 hours to a moisture content below 0.05% is required whenever ambient relative humidity exceeds 60%. Tests conducted according to ISO 527-2:2012 on molded test plaques from this grade yield tensile yield stress in the 38–48 MPa range, flexural modulus between 2000–2600 MPa under ISO 178:2019, and notched Charpy impact strength of 15–30 kJ/m² at 23°C under ISO 179-1eA. Post-molding dimensional inspection of enclosure halves produced at 450-tonne clamp force reveals that gate-zone sink mark depth exceeding 0.03 mm is eliminated by applying packing pressure decay rates of 8–12 MPa/s over a 4–6 second packing phase.

Production-field observations from high-volume lines molding thin-wall enclosure components indicate that the primary processing bottleneck is not cooling capacity but the thermal gate seal time described above, with inter-cavity part weight variation remaining below 0.8% when hot-runner manifold temperature drift is held within ±3°C. Use of ABS 810K in tools with flow length-to-thickness ratios above 150:1 requires mold temperatures at the upper end of the 50–80°C band; below 50°C, surface flow marks localized at the gate zone and part weight variance exceeding ±0.35% have been documented. Chlorinated hydrocarbon solvent contact must be avoided because stress crazing in the amorphous ABS matrix initiates within 30 minutes at room temperature after exposure to ketone- or ester-based cleaning agents.

Air conditioner front panels produced at scale from high-flow ABS for fixed-frequency and inverter-driven residential systems are molded in clamp-force ranges of 350–800 tonnes, with mold temperatures held at 40–60°C to balance surface gloss reproduction against warpage control on panels exceeding 1200 mm in length. The compliance framework applicable to these components includes IEC 60335-1:2020 Clause 30.2 governing glow wire testing, with pass thresholds of 550°C for non-current-carrying decorative parts and 650°C for parts supporting electrical connections; tracking index requirements are assessed under IEC 60112:2020 with a CTI minimum of 400 V for insulation purpose classification. Formulation practice for washing machine control panel housings holds ABS 810K at 96–100 wt% of the final compound, incorporating color masterbatch at 2–4 wt%, antioxidant masterbatch at 0.1–0.3 wt%, and post-industrial regrind at 10–20 wt% where cost-optimization protocols permit closed-loop reuse from the same part family; gas-assisted injection molding has been applied to hollow handle frames with nitrogen injection pressure of 20–35 MPa after 50–65% of the polymer melt volume has filled the cavity. The downstream production process for large-surface flat parts employs sequential valve-gated hot-runner systems with 4–12 drop sequencing, achieving flatness deviation below 0.5 mm on a 1200 mm × 600 mm panel; terminal product types include air conditioner front panels, washing machine top covers, refrigerator door end caps, and dishwasher control panel surrounds. Post-molding annealing at 80–90°C for 2 hours is specified where residual stress release would otherwise produce warp evolution exceeding 0.4 mm during the first 48 hours of ambient storage.

What Heat Distortion Temperature Remains After 1000 Hours of Thermal Cycling in Automotive Interior Blends?

The automotive interior validation protocol governing lower-interior components made from ABS 810K establishes heat distortion temperature retention as a primary acceptance criterion, measured under ISO 75-2:2013 Method A at 1.8 MPa with baseline values of 85–95°C for this grade. Cyclic exposure testing per ISO 4892-2:2013 Method A (xenon-arc weathering with daylight filters) applies 1000 hours of alternating 80°C/8 hour thermal dwell and −30°C/4 hour cold soak, after which the retained HDT/A at 1.8 MPa must remain above 90% of the baseline value for unpainted, uncoated ABS substrates in non-sun-exposed lower interior positions. Flammability compliance falls under ISO 3795:1989 establishing a horizontal burning rate no greater than 100 mm/min; OEM-specific supplementary specifications addressing fogging and odor characteristics apply at final assembly level but are not addressed by the base resin certification. Formulation addition ratios in this application domain typically specify ABS 810K neat at 80–100 wt% of the final compound, blended with 10–20 wt% post-consumer or post-industrial recycled ABS where OEM sustainability mandates apply, UV stabilizer masterbatch at 2–4 wt% for upper-interior surfaces, and solvent-dye or carbon black masterbatch at 2–5 wt% depending on specified grayscale or interior-trim color matching. The downstream production process for door trim inserts and steering column covers operates on large-tonnage injection molding machines in the 800–1800-tonne class, with mold temperatures at 60–90°C for high-fidelity reproduction of grain depths between 20–45 μm; packed pressure at cavity-end during the gate freeze-off phase must remain above 30 MPa to prevent grain washout at rib intersections and boss locations. Terminal product types include door trim inserts, steering column shrouds, center console side covers, instrument panel lower sections, and pillar garnish covers. A documented field-mode limitation is the compromise between high-gloss surface quality and impact retention: mold temperatures above 70°C optimize gloss but accelerate post-curing crystallization of the butadiene-grafted phase boundary, which reduces notched Charpy impact strength by 5–10% relative to 50°C molding after 500 hours of heat aging at 85°C under ISO 179-1eA measurement.

Manufacturing line experience with textured ABS automotive interior parts highlights that grain washout defects localize preferentially at parting-line intersections and ejector pin bosses when packing pressure decays below 30 MPa before gate seal; documented corrective action involves extending packing phase by 1.5–3 seconds beyond the Calculated Gate Freeze Time. Amine-based heat stabilizer packages must be excluded from masterbatch compositions used with ABS 810K because residual amine species accelerate thermo-oxidative degradation at processing temperatures above 240°C, producing discoloration and surface splay within 15 minutes of cumulative melt residence. Published data for this specific configuration is limited with respect to long-term UV retention of notched impact strength beyond 1000 hours of xenon-arc exposure; validation at tier-two supplier level is therefore required prior to final part approval.

In low-voltage electrical distribution assemblies manufactured under IEC 61439-1:2020, non-current-carrying enclosure components produced from ABS 810K are evaluated for glow wire flammability per IEC 60695-2-11:2021 with a pass threshold of 650°C at 3.0 mm wall thickness; insulation coordination requirements reference Clause 8.3 of the same standard for clearance and creepage distances that remain fixed by design and unaffected by resin selection. The base grade ABS 810K as supplied is not flame-retarded, which restricts neat-resin enclosure applications to UL 94 HB classifications; conversion to UL 94 V-0 is achieved by compounding 18–22 wt% halogenated FR masterbatch and 5–7 wt% antimony trioxide synergist, but published data for the specific melt-flow retention of this 810K blend configuration is limited and must be validated on a per-batch basis. Formulation addition ratios for intrinsically safe, non-flame-rated components such as busbar inspection windows and terminal shields typically hold the resin at 100 wt% with carbon black masterbatch at 1–3 wt%; regrind addition is capped at 15 wt% because higher recycled content produces measurable tracking index depression under IEC 60112:2020 methodology. The downstream production process for meter housing enclosures and circuit breaker front covers operates on medium-to-large injection molding machines with clamp force of 250–650 tonnes, mold temperatures at 60–90°C, and melt temperature profiles held between 230–260°C; post-molding annealing at 80–90°C for 2–3 hours is applied where dimensional stability within ±0.08 mm must be sustained for downstream assembly of busbar mounting features. Terminal product types include circuit breaker front covers, meter housing enclosures, busbar shields, terminal block carriers, and distribution panel inspection windows. The known incompatibility affecting this application sector is outgassing from PVC cable insulation in enclosed spaces: chloride species migrating onto ABS surfaces under thermal load accelerate surface embrittlement within 1000 hours of continuous exposure at 60°C, requiring physical separation or barrier design between PVC and ABS components.

High-Cavitation Hot-Runner Tooling for Small Domestic Appliance Shell Manufacture

Rice cooker outer body production at 450-tonne clamp force with ABS 810K in 8- to 16-cavity hot-runner tools places the primary technical burden on balancing filling across cavities to hold part weight standard deviation below 0.6% of mean; sequential valve-gate opening intervals of 0.3–1.0 seconds between adjacent gates are required on tools exceeding 8 cavities to prevent preferential filling at the manifold center. The compliance framework for this application sector includes IEC 60335-2-14:2016 for motor-operated kitchen appliances and IEC 60335-2-15:2012 for appliances heating liquids, each referencing the Glow Wire Flammability Index requirement of 550°C minimum under IEC 60695-2-12:2021; electrical clearance and creepage distance specifications apply to terminal block mounting features only and are managed by design rather than material. Formulation addition ratios for high-gloss white or grey finishes hold the resin at 96–100 wt%, titanium dioxide based pigment masterbatch at 2–4 wt%, antioxidant masterbatch at 0.1–0.3 wt%, and optional nucleating masterbatch at 0.5–1.0 wt% to accelerate post-ejection crystallization of the surface layer and reduce cycle time by 2–5 seconds; published data for this specific nucleating configuration is limited. The downstream production process employs electric injection molding machines for positional accuracy on high-cavitation tools, with mold temperatures at 50–80°C, cycle times of 30–50 seconds, and robot-assisted ejection coordinated with 2–4 second mold-open intervals. Terminal product types include electric kettle base shells, blender motor housing halves, rice cooker outer bodies, food mixer shell housings, and electric pressure cooker covers. The documented failure mode specific to this sector is post-molding sink mark development at boss locations exceeding 2.5 × nominal wall thickness; packing pressure at the boss gate must be sustained at 60–80 MPa for at least 3 seconds beyond gate freeze-off to eliminate sink visibility on cosmetic surfaces.

When Office Imaging Chassis Demand Flatness Deviations Below 0.08mm

Dimensional stability specifications in office imaging equipment print chassis and paper tray assemblies frequently establish flatness deviation limits of ±0.08 mm across unsupported spans of 350–500 mm, which exceeds the unpressed, unannealed capability of neat injection molded ABS 810K; compliance to IEC 62368-1:2023 for information technology equipment fire enclosures aligns with the electronics enclosure framework described earlier, while the mechanical inspection standard ISO 178:2019 governs flexural modulus verification at 2000–2600 MPa for molded test plaques. Formulation practice in this application sector uses ABS 810K neat at 90–100 wt%, mineral filler masterbatch at 5–10 wt% (talc or calcium carbonate, median particle size 2–5 μm) for post-molding shrinkage reduction to 0.3–0.5%, and carbon black or deep-color pigment masterbatch at 2–3 wt%; the addition of mineral filler above 10 wt% produces a measurable decline in notched Charpy impact strength below 12 kJ/m² at 23°C, which is a documented operational boundary. The downstream production process uses closed-loop injection molding with cavity pressure transducers for real-time gate-seal detection, mold temperatures at 60–80°C, post-molding conditioning at 80°C for 2 hours, and CMM inspection at 16–24 hour intervals to monitor tool wear-induced drift. Terminal product types include printer exterior covers, copier paper tray cassettes, scanner frames, fax machine housings, and multifunction printer control panel backing plates.

Hand-held power tool housings manufactured from medium-impact ABS for double-insulated electrical safety architecture are required by IEC 60745-1:2006 Clause 20 to withstand a drop impact of 1.0 m falling height onto a steel plate at 23°C without exposing live electrical parts; the corresponding notched Charpy impact requirement for the molded substrate is typically 20–30 kJ/m² at 23°C under ISO 179-1eA, which ABS 810K satisfies in the as-molded state at mold temperatures of 60°C. Formulation addition ratios in this application hold ABS 810K neat at 85–100 wt%, impact-modifier masterbatch at 5–10 wt% where the double-insulation shell geometry incorporates ribs or bosses that act as stress concentrators, post-industrial regrind at 10–20 wt% capped by documented MFR drift of not more than 2 g/10 min after three regrind cycles, and heat-resistant pigment masterbatch at 2–3 wt%. The downstream production process for angle grinder bodies and drill motor shrouds operates on medium-to-large injection molding machines with mold temperatures at 60–80°C, hot-runner systems with 2–4 drop points, and secondary TPE or TPU overmolding at 0.8–1.5 mm bond thickness for grip zones; the two-shot cycle defers between the ABS shot and the overmolded layer by 10–20 seconds to allow substrate surface temperature to fall below the overmold thermal degradation threshold. Terminal product types include angle grinder body housings, drill motor shrouds, circular saw guard assemblies, jigsaw casings, and rotary tool bodies. Processing incompatibility with low-molecular-weight silicone-based mold release agents must be flagged for any subsequent decoration step: silicone migration to the ABS surface persists for more than 72 hours after ejection and prevents durable adhesion of polyurethane-based grip coatings applied later in the assembly sequence.

    More Introduction
    `

Guangzhou Keyuan New Material ABS 810K is a medium-impact, high-flow acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene terpolymer injection-moulding grade supplied in natural or custom-coloured pellet form. The grade is intended for thin-wall moulded components in which melt filling length, surface replication, and cycle-time control are governed by shear-dependent viscosity. Under ISO 1133-1:2022 at 220 °C with a 10 kg piston load, the melt mass-flow rate is specified within the range of 15 g/10 min to 25 g/10 min; density measured by ISO 1183-1:2019 is reported as 1.03 g/cm³ to 1.05 g/cm³. Pre-drying in a desiccant dryer at 80 °C for 2 h to 4 h is required to reduce residual moisture below 0.05 wt%, as determined by ISO 15512:2019. The resin is classified as a general-purpose ABS under ISO 2580-1:2002; it is not supplied as a flame-retarded, heat-resistant, or low-gloss grade. Batch-specific certificates of analysis should be obtained from Guangzhou Keyuan New Material for incoming inspection because melt flow and pigment loading influence the final moulded density and impact response.

Specification envelope of 810K under ISO test procedures

Table 1 consolidates representative physical, mechanical, and thermal ranges reported for the grade under standardised conditioning. The values are not batch guarantees; they are used for initial tool design and incoming quality control when the exact certificate of analysis is unavailable. Test specimens are conditioned at 23 °C and 50% relative humidity for at least 16 h before tensile and impact testing, in accordance with ISO 291:2008.

The SAN matrix molecular mass and the dispersed polybutadiene rubber particle size distribution jointly determine this property envelope. Because the melt flow is in the upper range for general-purpose ABS, the grade produces lower pressure drop in thin sections but exhibits reduced low-temperature impact relative to high-rubber ABS grades. The 23 °C notched Izod range of 16 kJ/m² to 24 kJ/m² should not be extrapolated to sub-zero service without application-specific ISO 179-1 tests.

Why does high MFR alter mould filling and clamp-force demand?

High melt mass-flow rate in ABS 810K corresponds to lower apparent viscosity under injection shear rates. For a 1.0 mm-thick rectangular cavity, the filling pressure drop per unit flow length is lower than for a 10 g/10 min general-purpose ABS, permitting either a reduction in hydraulic injection pressure or an extension of flow length before the melt front freezes. On production-scale reciprocating-screw injection machines with a clamp force of 1200 kN to 1600 kN and a general-purpose screw of 40 mm diameter at a 20:1 L/D ratio, the melt temperature window is 220 °C to 250 °C. Barrel zones are typically set with the feed throat at 40 °C to 60 °C, rear zone 180 °C to 200 °C, compression zone 210 °C to 230 °C, metering zone 220 °C to 240 °C, and nozzle 230 °C to 250 °C. Injection speed should be maintained between 50 mm/s and 100 mm/s for wall sections of 0.8 mm to 2.5 mm; lower speeds generate hesitation marks, while excessive speeds produce jetting and gas trapping in unvented or poorly vented tools. Back pressure of 0.5 MPa to 1.0 MPa improves melt homogeneity without excessively increasing screw recovery time. Screw speed is commonly limited to 60 rpm to 100 rpm to minimise frictional heat and yellowing.

Process monitoring should include melt cushion stability between 3 mm and 5 mm and screw decompression of 2 mm to 3 mm to prevent nozzle drool. In hot-runner tools, manifold temperatures are typically held at 230 °C to 250 °C with tip temperatures 10 °C to 20 °C above the melt set point. Residence time in the barrel should be kept below 8 min at 240 °C to limit butadiene-phase degradation; purging should be performed with acrylic or general-purpose ABS if production interruptions exceed this interval.

On polished tooling with an SPI/SPE A2 surface finish, housing components moulded from 810K exhibit a 60° Gardner gloss value above 85 when the mould temperature is maintained at 50 °C to 70 °C, with gloss measured by ASTM D523. For structural parts with living hinges, bosses, or snap-fit features, the mould shrinkage must be compensated independently in the flow and transverse directions because the reported range of 0.4% to 0.7% varies with wall thickness and pigment loading. Ejector design should account for the lower hot modulus of the unfilled ABS grade; ejection temperatures above 80 °C may induce pin-push marks on highly polished surfaces.

When moisture control is deficient, surface defects and weld-line embrittlement appear

Ambient moisture uptake in ABS pellets at relative humidity above 60% can raise surface moisture to 0.3 wt% to 0.5 wt% within 24 h. If 810K is processed without pre-drying, steam volatilisation at the melt front produces splay, silver streaks, and internal voiding; hydrolytic chain scission of the SAN phase can reduce the notched Izod impact strength by more than 25% relative to dry-moulded specimens. Drying must be performed in a desiccant dryer with a dew point at or below -30 °C, at 80 °C to 85 °C for 2 h to 4 h, to a target residual moisture content below 0.05 wt%. Extended residence beyond 6 h at 90 °C causes pellet agglomeration and discoloration. The feed throat should remain sealed and dry-air purged during processing; regrind stored in open bins for more than 4 h at 23 °C and 65% relative humidity must be re-dried before addition to virgin material.

Regrind addition up to 20 wt% is generally tolerated without significant loss in notched Izod when the regrind is dry, uniformly granulated, and free of fines below 100 µm. Higher regrind ratios above 30 wt% increase melt-flow variability because repeated thermal history reduces the effective molecular mass of the SAN matrix; this can shift MFR upward by 3 g/10 min to 5 g/10 min and lower the notched Izod by 10% to 15%. Proportioning valves and gravimetric blenders should be used rather than volumetric mixing to maintain consistent rheology.

Assessing the trade-off between flow, impact, and heat resistance

Table 2 positions ABS 810K against other ABS subclasses to clarify specification boundaries. The grade provides higher melt flow than low-flow general-purpose ABS but sacrifices approximately 4 kJ/m² to 8 kJ/m² of room-temperature notched Izod strength. Compared with high-impact ABS, 810K has a narrower low-temperature ductility window; below -20 °C, the notched Izod can fall below 10 kJ/m², although published data for this specific grade at sub-zero temperatures is limited. Compared with heat-resistant ABS based on alpha-methylstyrene, 810K has a lower HDT at 1.80 MPa but better melt processability and lower residual stress in thin-wall parts.

Grade classMelt mass-flow rate ISO 1133-1:2022Notched Izod ISO 180:2023HDT 1.80 MPa ISO 75-2:2013
    ABS 810K15–25 g/10 min16–24 kJ/m²82–90 °C
    Low-flow general-purpose ABS5–12 g/10 min20–28 kJ/m²84–92 °C
    High-impact ABS10–20 g/10 min30–40 kJ/m²80–88 °C
    Heat-resistant ABS8–15 g/10 min12–20 kJ/m²95–105 °C

These values are class-level comparisons from publicly available ABS datasheets; product-specific validation under the intended service load is required. The differentiation of 810K is therefore not a singular property but a rheological position: high flow, moderate impact, and moderate heat resistance. It is suited to thin-wall enclosures and housings, but it is not a substitute for high-impact ABS in components requiring cold-temperature impact, nor for heat-resistant ABS in parts exposed to continuous temperatures above 90 °C. The grade is likewise not recommended for extrusion blow moulding because the high melt flow reduces parison melt strength; a blow-moulding ABS with MFR below 5 g/10 min is preferred.

In warehouse storage, unopened 25 kg bags should be kept below 30 °C and below 60% relative humidity; opened material should be consumed within 4 h or re-dried. The grade is not recommended for continuous immersion or contact with strong oxidising acids, ketones, esters, or aromatic hydrocarbons, and environmental stress-cracking can occur under load in the presence of methanol or certain surfactant-bearing cleaning agents. Specific fluid resistance should be evaluated by ISO 22088-3:2006 or ASTM D543-21 under simulated service stress and temperature, because generic compatibility tables do not account for residual moulded stress. Published data for this specific formulation in repeated steam sterilisation or food-contact service is limited; compliance with FDA 21 CFR 177.1020 or EU 10/2011 must be confirmed in writing by the manufacturer for food-contact applications. These operational boundaries define the acceptable use envelope for ABS 810K in injection-moulded industrial and consumer components.
