Application of Guangdong Kinta Sheng ABS FR3600-J801

Guangdong Kinta Sheng ABS FR3600-J801 is supplied as a pelletized flame-retardant acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene molding compound for downstream injection molding and extrusion operations requiring third-party fire enclosure performance. The scenarios below are restricted to production routes where brominated FR ABS grades are already specified in publicly documented industrial practice. Each scenario records the relevant compliance framework, formulated loading ratio, production equipment boundary conditions, and terminal article category. Where process data is grade-specific, the current batch certificate and UL file should be consulted before dielectric qualification, impact testing, or glow-wire re-validation is released.

Injection molding of information technology equipment fire enclosures from ABS FR3600-J801 begins as a 100 wt% pellet charge without the addition of a separate flame-retardant masterbatch. The compound is typically dry-blended with 2–4 wt% color concentrate and, where surface texture or logo hot-stamping is specified, sprues and runners are re-introduced at a maximum regrind ratio of 15 wt% for opaque, non-decorative enclosures; regrind for light grey or off-white ITE housings is excluded entirely because minor thermal yellowing during the first heat history can shift the CIELAB ΔE beyond 1.5 against the masterbatch standard. Compliance for this application class is anchored to IEC 62368-1:2018 fire enclosure provisions, UL 94 V-0 at 2.0 mm, IEC 60695-2-11 glow-wire testing at 550 °C for unattended electrical equipment, RoHS 2011/65/EU Annex II, and REACH SVHC restrictions. Batch melt-flow rate is verified per ISO 1133-1:2022 at 220 °C and 10 kg; a shift of more than ±15% from the approved lot justifies re-profiling of injection velocity and pack pressure. The downstream production sequence uses a reciprocating screw injection molding machine with a 20:1 to 24:1 L/D ratio, a compression ratio of 2.0:1 to 2.4:1, and a leak-proof non-return valve. Desiccant hopper drying is mandatory at 80 °C ± 3 °C for 3–4 hours, with residual moisture verified below 0.08% by Karl Fischer titration before processing. Melt temperature is profiled from 200 °C in the rear zone to 230 °C at the nozzle, mold temperature is maintained at 40–70 °C, and local melt residence time above 230 °C is limited to 5 minutes to suppress the plate-out of flame-retardant decomposition products on gas vents. The terminal product category includes router chassis, optical network terminal housings, set-top box covers, multi-media interface shells, and small cell radio enclosures.

Does 850°C Glow-Wire Compliance Collapse When Regrind Replaces Virgin Pellets in Thin-Wall Mains Adapter Shells?

Thin-wall mains adapter shell production imposes a flow-path length-to-wall-thickness ratio typically between 90:1 and 140:1; replacement of virgin ABS FR3600-J801 with process regrind at 10 wt% or above shortens the gelation plateau and produces jetting defects at gate lands, requiring a re-optimized injection velocity profile. Formulation addition for charger housings with wall thickness 0.8–1.2 mm is therefore set at 90–100 wt% virgin pellet plus 2–4 wt% color concentrate, with regrind limited to ≤10 wt% only when the mold cavity fill analysis confirms no hesitation at ribs located behind parallel-wall sections. The governing compliance matrix includes UL 94 V-0 at 1.5 mm, IEC 62368-1:2018 Clause 6.4 fire enclosure safeguards, IEC 60695-2-11 at 850 °C, and IEC 60695-2-12 at 850 °C for the declaration that a glow-wire event does not ignite the cotton wrapping. Production equipment for this geometry typically includes an all-electric reciprocating screw machine with a 25:1 L/D low-shear screw, accumulator-assisted filling, and valve-gate hot-runner tips with independent temperature control at 220 °C–235 °C. Cavity pressure at the sensor near the last fill point is held at 80–120 MPa, switchover from velocity to pressure occurs at 95% of part volume, and mold surfaces are maintained at 60–80 °C with conformal cooling channels to prevent gloss separation from the texture. Terminal finished products produced under this processing envelope are smart phone fast-charger housings, wall-mount USB adapter shells, power bank enclosures, and compact docking station base covers.

Low-Voltage Switchgear Enclosure Tooling and Post-Mold Annealing Limits

Circuit breaker base frames and current transformer bobbins molded from ABS FR3600-J801 must be produced from a formulation that excludes external impact modifiers and external flame-retardant masterbatches; the only allowable addition ratio is 98–100 wt% virgin pellet plus 0–2 wt% carbon black masterbatch, because third-party electrical safety certifications are linked to the compound's specific brominated FR package and any dilution with neat ABS invalidates glow-wire traceability. Ground sprues and runners may be recycled at ≤10 wt% only for non-load-bearing internal components and only after the material has been re-dried at 80 °C for 4 hours. The relevant compliance standards for this segment are IEC 60947-1:2019, IEC 60695-2-11:2021 at 850 °C for unattended apparatus carrying current above 0.2 A, IEC 60695-2-12:2021, UL 94 V-0 at 2.0 mm, ASTM D638-14 for tensile yield above 35 MPa, and ASTM D256-10 for Izod impact verification on end-gated specimens. Process design for thick-walled switchgear parts uses a two-stage injection profile with melt temperature at 210–240 °C, mold temperature at 60–80 °C, pack pressure at 60–80 MPa for 6–10 s, and a cooling time of 25–40 s at nominal wall thickness 2.5–4.0 mm; sink mark depth over bosses is controlled by maintaining a gate seal time not less than 8 s and by positioning gates at the thickest section. After ejection, parts require post-mold annealing at 85 °C for 2 hours to reduce residual hoop stress at brass insert interfaces and to stabilize creep resistance under terminal screw clamping. The terminal product category includes miniature circuit breaker bases, residual current circuit breaker clutch housings, terminal block bodies, current transformer bobbins, and distribution board mounting rails.

When building wiring enclosures require fire containment under confined conduit boxing, the formulation for ABS FR3600-J801 is generally charged at 95–100 wt% with no regrind permitted for visible front plates and 0–5 wt% regrind permitted only for black or dark grey junction boxes hidden inside wall cavities. Compliance is governed by IEC 60670-1:2015 and IEC 60670-22:2015 for connection boxes, BS 4662:2017 for UK electrical accessory boxes, and IEC 60695-2-11:2021 at 850 °C for insulating parts retaining live parts; for North American outlets, UL 514B:2020 may be specified alongside UL 94 V-0 at 2.0 mm. Downstream production of wall boxes with integral brass or phosphor-bronze terminal inserts requires preheating the inserts to 100–120 °C in a hot-air fixture before insert placement; the mold cavity is held at 70–80 °C to prevent differential shrinkage that otherwise initiates microcracks along the insert knurl. Injection molding is performed with melt temperature 210–235 °C, injection pressure 70–110 MPa, and screw back-pressure 0.4–0.7 MPa to ensure uniform dispersion of the flame-retardant additive at the thicker bosses and snap-fit undercuts. Cycle time for a 2.0–3.0 mm nominal wall is typically 35–50 s, with the holding pressure profile adjusted after short-shot trials to avoid sink at the rear knockout positions. Terminal finished product types in this application segment include recessed junction boxes, modular wall boxes, ceiling rose pattress plates, switch front plates, and electrical conduit adaptor fittings.

When Cabin Thermal Ageing and Volatile Condensation Requirements Force the Use of Neat FR ABS Over Regrind-Containing Blends

Automotive body control module and cabin fuse box housings use ABS FR3600-J801 only when the interior thermal load remains below the service envelope of the grade; validation is conducted against ISO 16750-2:2023 for high-temperature operation and VDA 278:2016 for volatile organic compound and fogging condensate emission from snap-fit or laser-welded enclosures. The formulation addition ratio for this segment is held at 100 wt% virgin pellet, with no regrind, no external color concentrate containing carrier waxes, and no mold-release agent unless the release agent is a silicone-free grade specifically qualified under the automaker's emission document. The molding process uses a two-plate cold-runner tool with direct edge gates rather than hot-runner valve pins, because long residence time in hot-runner manifolds above 230 °C increases the concentration of low-molecular-weight brominated species that condense on cabin surfaces during thermal ageing. Pre-drying is performed at 80 °C for 4 hours to a residual moisture of ≤0.05%; melt temperature is limited to 200–220 °C, mold temperature to 55–75 °C, and filling is completed with profiled velocity at 55–75% of machine maximum to avoid shear heating at gate lands. Because published production-scale data for this specific configuration is limited, the automotive molder must verify impact retention after 1,000 hours of 85 °C thermal ageing and 85% relative humidity according to the OEM qualification plan before series release. Terminal finished products are body control module bottom covers, telematics enclosure brackets, cabin fuse box covers, and gateway module housings.

Regrind Ratio and Ultrasonic Welding Optimization in Home Appliance Control Panel Molding

Home appliance control panels produced from ABS FR3600-J801 require a regrind addition ratio that is deliberately asymmetric between visible fascia surfaces and hidden internal bosses: 100 wt% virgin for the front surface and 10–20 wt% same-grade regrind only for the rear housing rib structure, with the regrind fraction reduced to 5 wt% when the panel is ultrasonic-welded to a transparent acrylic or polycarbonate lens. The governing compliance set includes IEC 60335-1:2020 for electric motor-operated appliances, IEC 60695-2-11:2021 at 750 °C for attended appliances and 850 °C for unattended appliances, IEC 60695-2-12, UL 746A for polymer creepage and clearance retention, and IEC 61340-5-1 where antistatic surface resistance below 1012 Ω is specified. Downstream production uses an extraction-vented reciprocating screw with a 22:1 L/D ratio and a general-purpose check ring; melt temperature is biased toward the lower end of the processing window at 195–215 °C to minimize the release of brominated species during barrel residence, while mold temperature is raised to 65–80 °C to promote weld-line strength at ultrasonic energy directors and screw bosses. Packing pressure is set at 50–75 MPa for 5–8 s, and parts are annealed at 80 °C for 1 hour after molding before ultrasonic welding at 20 kHz with amplitude 30–40 µm and a collapse distance of 0.3–0.5 mm; this sequence avoids the microcracking that occurs when high residual gate stress meets the localized compressive stress of an ultrasonic horn. Terminal finished product types include washing machine control panel frames, dishwasher fascia carriers, refrigerator control box covers, and microwave oven side control trim.

    Certification & Compliance
    More Introduction

Guangdong Kinta Sheng ABS FR3600-J801 is an injection-moulding grade of acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene designated for flame-retardant applications. The grade designation places the material within the FR3600 series, while the J801 suffix operates as an internal supplier code for a specific melt-viscosity, pigmentation, or additive variant. Because suffix logic is supplier-specific, the code carries no universal industry meaning and cannot be decoded without the manufacturer’s product documentation. Publicly available independent data for this exact configuration is limited in secondary sources. The supplier’s technical datasheet, lot-specific certificate of analysis, and UL yellow-card documentation therefore remain the controlling references for procurement, tooling, and production-release decisions. Flame-retardant ABS formulations of this class are commonly built around a brominated aromatic flame-retardant additive combined with an antimony trioxide synergist, but the exact additive system in FR3600-J801 is not disclosed in the grade name and must be confirmed with Guangdong Kinta Sheng. When a component is specified in this material, the engineering drawing should require explicit lot-level data for density, melt-flow rate, tensile yield, notched impact, heat-deflection temperature, and flammability at the intended minimum wall thickness.

    What Specification Framework Governs FR3600-J801?

Grade-specific specification packages for flame-retardant ABS are organized around the test methods and regulatory requirements applicable to electrical enclosures, appliance internal components, and power distribution accessories. Mechanical property values are not meaningful unless the test standard, specimen conditioning, and test speed are stated. Tensile yield and elongation are generally reported under ASTM D638-14 or ISO 527-2:2012; flexural modulus under ASTM D790-17 or ISO 178:2019; notched Izod impact under ISO 180:2019 or ASTM D256-10. Melt-flow rate is recorded under ISO 1133-1:2022 at 220 °C/10 kg or 230 °C/3.8 kg, depending on the supplier’s chosen condition. Density is measured under ISO 1183-1:2019. For unfilled brominated FR-ABS, the density normally occupies a class-typical band from 1.17 g/cm³ to 1.20 g/cm³, which is above the 1.04 g/cm³ to 1.07 g/cm³ range of general-purpose ABS. Reported flammability is thickness-dependent and must be tied to the minimum part thickness.

Because grade-specific values are supplier-controlled, the table below records the test methods and acceptance criteria that should be present in a complete procurement package for FR3600-J801. The typical acceptance criterion column is class-based and is not a substitute for the manufacturer’s certified values.

Shear-viscosity curves for brominated FR-ABS do not follow the same temperature-shift behaviour as unfilled general-purpose ABS. The flame-retardant package often increases low-shear melt viscosity and can reduce the shear-thinning slope at moderate shear rates. Capillary rheometry under ISO 11443:2021 at 220 °C, with shear rates from 10 s⁻¹ to 10 000 s⁻¹, is the appropriate method for generating data for injection-moulding simulation. Measurements from melt-flow-rate equipment alone are not sufficient for gate pressure-drop calculations because they represent a single low-shear condition. For thin-wall enclosures with nominal wall thickness below 2.0 mm, injection pressures may exceed 80 MPa; the tool should be designed with a melt-pressure transducer at the nozzle or near the gate to detect pressure-limited filling.

On a reciprocating-screw injection-moulding machine, the first processing constraint for FR3600-J801 is residual moisture. A desiccant-bed dryer with a dew point below -30 °C should be used, with hot air at 80 °C and residence time of 2–4 h to reduce pellet moisture below 0.05 % by weight. Processing above that moisture threshold produces splay on the part surface, silver streaks near gates, and impact-strength loss from hydrolysis. Drying is not complete when the dryer reaches setpoint; pellet surface moisture and internal moisture must both be reduced. Hopper-mounted hot-air dryers without desiccant beds are insufficient in humid production environments where ambient dew point exceeds 10 °C. If plant relative humidity is above 60 %, dried pellets should be conveyed in closed, dried-air lines and used within 30 min of exiting the dryer. Batch-to-batch variation in moisture uptake can occur if packaging is punctured or if regrind is not dried separately.

Melt-Temperature and Moisture Thresholds in Injection Moulding

Injection-moulding trials on FR3600-J801 should evaluate screw geometry, back pressure, and injection speed as a system rather than as isolated settings. A general-purpose ABS screw with an L/D ratio between 20:1 and 25:1 and a compression ratio of 2:1 to 2.5:1 is usually acceptable, but a low-shear screw is preferred when the part contains long flow paths or thin walls. Back pressure of 0.5–1.0 MPa improves melt homogeneity without excessive frictional heating. Injection velocity should be set to fill with a short velocity-pressure transfer point, but not so high that local shear rates exceed the degradation threshold of the brominated system. Hot-runner systems, when used, must be externally heated with streamlined flow channels and no unmixed dead spots; any stagnant region in the melt-delivery system can retain resin for multiple cycles and allow the flame retardant to degrade.

The melt temperature measured at the nozzle should be kept within the supplier’s stated window; for class-typical unfilled flame-retardant ABS, the working range is 180–230 °C. Barrel temperature profiles may start at 170–190 °C in the rear zone, progress through 180–210 °C in the middle, reach 190–220 °C in the front, and hold the nozzle at 200–225 °C. Mould temperature is normally maintained between 40 °C and 80 °C, with the upper half of the range used to improve knit-line strength and surface replication. Residence time at the upper melt-temperature limit should not exceed 5 min; longer residence can initiate degradation of the flame-retardant system, producing brown streaks, odour, and mould plate-out. Gate size should be increased relative to general-purpose ABS when filling thin-wall parts because flame-retardant ABS may exhibit faster solidification. Round, side, or tab gates are preferred; pinpoint gates may require higher shear and can create local degradation if the gate diameter is below 1.0 mm. Vent depths of 0.02–0.03 mm are typical for ABS, but FR grades may require more frequent vent cleaning due to deposit formation. Core and cavity water circuits should maintain mould-temperature variation below ±5 °C across the cavity to reduce differential shrinkage and warp in flat enclosure panels.

Failure modes observed on production equipment for this material class include screw torque increase after prolonged running, pressure rise across screen packs during compounding, and deposit build-up on mould vents and cavity surfaces. The deposits are commonly associated with decomposition of the flame-retardant package and are managed by lowering melt temperature, reducing residence time, and increasing mould-vent maintenance frequency. Production trials should record screw recovery time, melt cushion stability, and hydraulic pressure at transfer.

In comparison with unfilled general-purpose ABS, the flame-retardant system in FR3600-J801 increases melt density, narrows the processing window, and generally reduces room-temperature notched impact strength. The reduction in impact is not a defect but a consequence of the additives required to achieve a UL 94 V-0 rating at thin wall sections. Flow length is also formulation-dependent: flame-retardant ABS may exhibit shorter spiral-flow distances at equal melt temperature and injection pressure than a general-purpose grade of similar nominal melt-flow rate. Tooling originally designed for general-purpose ABS should be reviewed for gate size, wall-thickness balance, and venting before substituting FR3600-J801. Published data for this specific configuration is limited; therefore, mould-filling simulation with grade-specific shear-viscosity data is required for reliable pressure-drop and weld-line prediction.

When FR3600-J801 Replaces General-Purpose ABS or PC/ABS in Electrical Enclosures

For electrical enclosures covered by IEC 62368-1:2018 or IEC 60695-series fire-hazard testing, the substitution of FR3600-J801 is not solely a dimensional or aesthetic decision. The final part must be tested at the minimum wall thickness and, where applicable, at the maximum conditioning temperature. Flame-retardant ABS thickness ratings are often 1.5 mm or 3.0 mm; a material rated V-0 at 1.5 mm may not maintain that rating at 0.8 mm, even if the supplier’s preliminary data suggest adequate flame retardation. The responsible engineering practice is to require a UL yellow card that identifies the exact grade, colour, and minimum thickness, or to conduct independent testing on moulded plaques from production runs.

Glow-wire testing under IEC 60695-2-11 and IEC 60695-2-12 is often required for unattended appliance enclosures. The acceptance limit is application-defined; common thresholds are GWFI 850 °C or GWIT 775 °C. FR3600-J801 should be evaluated with the intended pigments and moulded-in stress states because colour concentrates and regrind can shift glow-wire ignition temperature and flame-propagation behaviour. Regrind use should be limited according to supplier guidance, typically not exceeding 20 % for critical enclosure surfaces, and should be validated for flammability, impact, and colour stability.

Relative to PC/ABS, the selection of FR3600-J801 requires an application-by-application comparison. PC/ABS grades typically demand drying at 100–110 °C and melt temperatures of 240–270 °C, which increases energy input and reduces thermal degradation margin for heat-sensitive inserts. ABS-class flame-retardant grades can often be processed at lower temperature, but they generally exhibit lower heat-deflection temperature and lower notched impact than PC/ABS. A change from PC/ABS to FR3600-J801 should be validated against heat ageing, impact at the lowest service temperature, and chemical exposure to cleaning agents. Conversely, substitution of FR3600-J801 into a general-purpose ABS application must be validated for flammability, smoke density, and glow-wire requirements, because the flame-retardant package changes combustion behaviour and may affect electrical tracking resistance under IEC 60112.

In electrical accessory applications such as socket housings and power strips, FR3600-J801 must meet glow-wire and tracking requirements under IEC 60335-1. The material should be tested for comparative tracking index under IEC 60112; halogenated flame-retardant ABS may exhibit CTI below 600 V, which limits clearance and creepage design if not verified. Ball-pressure testing under IEC 60695-10-2 at the service temperature plus 25 °C is commonly requested for current-carrying parts. Flame-retardant ABS of this class may show Vicat softening between 90 °C and 100 °C under ISO 306/B50, but the grade-specific value is required before selecting the material for external parts exposed to direct solar gain.

Regulatory compliance for sale in the European Union is not established solely by the grade designation. A supplier declaration under 2011/65/EU RoHS recast should confirm that the material is below the maximum concentration values for lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls, and selected polybrominated diphenyl ethers. Under EC 1907/2006 REACH, the supplier should provide SVHC declarations and, where relevant, annex restrictions. Because brominated flame-retardant chemistry may be regulated differently by jurisdiction or by end-use, the moulder or end-product manufacturer must confirm that the specific FR package in FR3600-J801 is permitted in the destination market and application category.

Operational boundaries for FR3600-J801 include sensitivity to long hot residence time, moisture, and high shear. Outdoor exposure without a protective cap layer is not recommended unless validated under ASTM G155, because flame-retardant ABS of this class can exhibit lower UV resistance than capped ASA or acrylic materials. Contact with strong alkali, ketone solvents, or chlorinated hydrocarbons should be avoided unless compatibility testing is performed. Combinations with amine-based processing aids or certain stabilizers should be screened, because amines can interfere with flame-retardant mechanisms or promote discolouration.
