Aseptic liquid pouch and bag-in-box constructions coextrude Exact VLDPE 5181 as the sealant layer adjacent to an aluminium foil or EVOH barrier core. The sealant layer is blended at 25 wt% Exact VLDPE 5181 with 75 wt% LDPE of 0.923 g/cm³ density to lower seal initiation and maintain seal integrity through liquid contamination. Layer thickness is set at 12–18 µm in a five-layer blown film die with die gap 1.8 mm, blow-up ratio 2.0–2.5:1, and melt temperature 185–205 °C. The melt temperature is maintained below 205 °C to prevent thermal degradation of EVOH in the adjacent barrier layer, which narrows the operational window to approximately 10–15 °C during extended runs. Sealing is performed at 90–110 °C seal bar temperature, 0.3–0.5 MPa pressure, and 0.2–0.5 s dwell, with seal integrity evaluated under ASTM F88/F88M and burst testing according to ASTM F2054. Compliance references 21 CFR 177.1520 and (EU) No 10/2011, with overall migration tested under EN 1186; the structure is suitable for high-acid and fatty simulants, but published data for this specific configuration with Exact VLDPE 5181 above 20 L pouch volume is limited. Terminal product types include bag-in-box liners for dairy liquids, wine and high-acid syrups, and 5–20 L edible oil pouches.
In vertical form-fill-seal lines running at 40–80 cycles per minute, the sealant web of a five-layer cast coextrusion is exposed to seal bar pressures of 0.275–0.550 MPa and dwell times of 50–150 ms. Exact VLDPE 5181 has a density of 0.882 g/cm³ (ASTM D1505), melt flow rate of 1.0 g/10 min (ASTM D1238 at 190 °C/2.16 kg), and peak melting point of 69 °C (ASTM D3418). The sealant layer is formulated at 70 wt% Exact VLDPE 5181 and 30 wt% linear low-density polyethylene of 0.918 g/cm³ density to retain hot tack while managing coefficient of friction. On a 2,400 mm cast line with extruder L/D 30:1, the sealant extruder operates at 210–240 °C melt temperature and the chill roll is held at 15–20 °C; the sealant layer occupies 15–20% of total film thickness, typically 10–15 µm within a 60–80 µm structure. Hot tack force is measured under ASTM F1921 with seal temperature 95–120 °C, and seal strength under ASTM F88/F88M after 24 h conditioning. Food-contact compliance relies on 21 CFR 177.1520 and (EU) No 10/2011, with migration tested according to EN 1186. Process conflict arises above 30 wt% Exact VLDPE 5181 in the skin layer: wound roll blocking occurs unless 3–5 µm non-migratory silica anti-block is incorporated, and coefficient of friction can exceed 0.6 under ASTM D1894. Terminal product types include frozen vegetable pouches, snack pillow packs, and granular detergent sachets.
The use of Exact VLDPE 5181 in medical blown film is constrained primarily by its Vicat softening point of 54 °C (ASTM D1525), which excludes steam autoclave sterilisation at 121 °C. The material is extrusion-processed on a three-layer blown film line with L/D 25:1, die gap 1.5 mm, blow-up ratio 2.0–2.2:1, and melt temperature 180–195 °C; the production area is maintained at ISO 7 cleanroom classification. Formulations for medical pouching use 100 wt% Exact VLDPE 5181 or an 80/20 wt% blend with EVA containing 18% vinyl acetate comonomer. Sterilisation methods are restricted to ethylene oxide gas at 50–55 °C or gamma irradiation up to 25 kGy; gamma doses above 50 kGy require converter-specific validation because oxidation and chain extension responses may reduce elongation at break and increase colour shift, though published data for this specific grade under high-dose gamma exposure is limited. Cytotoxicity is tested under ISO 10993-5 and irritation or sensitisation under ISO 10993-10; batch release is managed under ISO 13485, with USP Class VI validation being converter responsibility. Terminal product types include ostomy barrier films, drain bag films, and respiratory therapy device films; steam-sterilised liquid reservoirs are excluded.
Extrusion lamination of aluminium foil to low-density polyethylene film for high-fat powdered beverage sachets employs Exact VLDPE 5181 at 20–30 wt% in LDPE to reduce seal initiation temperature and maintain adhesion to foil through the sealant layer. The tandem laminator uses an extruder with L/D 30:1, melt temperature 240–265 °C, air gap 150–200 mm, and line speed 60–120 m/min. Coating weight is controlled at 12–20 g/m², with corona treatment of the foil surface to 42–46 mN/m before lamination. The blend melt flow rate is kept above 5 g/10 min by using an LDPE carrier of 8 g/10 min (ASTM D1238), because Exact VLDPE 5181 contributes only 1.0 g/10 min and additions above 30 wt% produce draw resonance at line speeds above 120 m/min. Seal initiation is measured by ASTM F88/F88M after sealing at 95–115 °C and 0.3 MPa; the structure is tested for compliance under 21 CFR 177.1520 and (EU) No 10/2011. Terminal product types include foil-laminated sachets for instant coffee, soup bases, high-fat sauces, and seasoning powders.
In recycled polypropylene compounds, substitution of conventional LLDPE with Exact VLDPE 5181 at 10–20 wt% is performed on a co-rotating twin-screw extruder with L/D 40:1 and screw speed 300–400 rpm. Barrel temperatures are set to 180–200 °C, and the plastomer is fed via the main throat with recycled PP flake; a maleic anhydride-grafted PP compatibiliser at 3–5 wt% is required to prevent phase coarsening when Exact VLDPE 5181 exceeds 15 wt%. Notched Izod impact strength is measured under ASTM D256 at 23 °C and -20 °C; melt flow rate is monitored under ASTM D1238 to maintain injection moulding processability. The compound is used in injection moulding with clamp force settings of 1,200–2,500 kN for non-appearance automotive interior components and appliance housings. Regulatory compliance includes REACH registration and RoHS 2011/65/EU; food-contact status is not claimed for recycled PP compounds. The balance of low-temperature impact and stiffness depends on recycled PP contamination level, and published data for this exact recycled stream with Exact VLDPE 5181 is limited. Terminal product types include injection-moulded appliance housings, non-visible automotive interior brackets, and industrial container handles for non-food service.
Halogen-free flame-retardant cable jacket compounds based on EVA and polyethylene accept Exact VLDPE 5181 at 15–30 phr as a polymeric modifier to increase elongation at break after filler loading and to reduce torque in internal mixing. The compound is mixed in a 75 L internal mixer with ram pressure 0.5 MPa, drop temperature 130–140 °C, and subsequent pelletising through a single-screw extruder with L/D 20:1. The base formulation contains 120–180 phr aluminium trihydroxide or magnesium hydroxide; above 30 phr Exact VLDPE 5181, tensile strength under IEC 60811-501 may decline because the plastomer phase dilutes the continuous EVA network. Halogen gas emission is tested under IEC 60754-1, smoke density under IEC 61034, and vertical flame spread under IEC 60332-1. This is a secondary compounding niche where Exact VLDPE 5181 is not used as a standalone jacket resin; its Vicat softening point of 54 °C excludes continuous conductor temperatures above 70 °C. Terminal product types include low-voltage building wire jackets, control cable sheathing, and non-armoured indoor distribution cables.
