PC/ABS 5007 is a polycarbonate/acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene copolymer blend supplied by Dongguan Zhongen for injection molding and structural foam processing. The grade is characterized by a recommended drying protocol of 90–100°C for 3–4 h in dehumidifying dryers to achieve residual moisture below 0.02 wt% per ISO 15512:2019, a processing melt temperature range of 240–270°C, and a mold temperature range of 60–90°C. Specific property values for this grade should be confirmed against the manufacturer's Technical Data Sheet; the following application scenarios reference industry-typical performance ranges for similarly formulated PC/ABS blends where lot-specific data is not publicly available.

In instrument panel retainers and knee bolster carrier plates, the material is specified when notched Izod impact above 45 kJ/m² at -30°C per ISO 179-1/1eU and multiaxial impact force above 4 kN at 23°C per ISO 6603-2 are required. The processing window is constrained to a melt temperature of 250–275°C and mold temperature of 70–90°C; excursions above 280°C for residence times exceeding 5 min initiate polycarbonate chain scission, with a zero-shear viscosity decay of approximately 15% per 10 min as measured by capillary rheometry at 270°C and 1000 s⁻¹. Pre-drying at 95 ± 5°C for 3–4 h in a desiccant-bed dryer to residual moisture below 0.02 wt% per ISO 15512:2019 is mandatory; hydrolysis during processing generates CO₂ microbubbles that reduce Izod impact below 20 kJ/m² and produce surface silver streaks. The formulation addition ratio for this segment: PC/ABS 5007 at 96.5–98.5 wt%, phosphate ester mold-release/antistatic package at 1.0–2.0 wt%, hindered phenolic primary antioxidant at 0.2–0.5 phr combined with a phosphite secondary antioxidant at 0.1–0.2 phr. Downstream production process: injection molding on 250–350 ton hydraulic machines with hot runner systems and sequential valve gating to eliminate weld lines at the deployment channel root; fountain-flow front velocity of 150–200 mm/s, fill time below 1.5 s for 1.2 mm wall thickness. Mold temperature below 60°C causes a cliff-edge in impact performance because the skin layer freezes before the core, producing a brittle fracture path with notched Izod dropping to 15–20 kJ/m². Gate location at the channel edge rather than the center reduces orientation-induced anisotropy in the impact zone. Compliance framework: FMVSS 302 horizontal burn rate <100 mm/min, ISO 3795 for interior flammability, ISO 6603-2 for multiaxial impact at 23°C and -30°C, REACH candidate list screening for phthalate-free plasticizers. Finished product types: passenger-side airbag doors, knee bolster retainers, center console carrier plates. Published data for the specific 5007 grade after 1000 h heat aging at 100°C is limited; end users should request lot-specific ISO 179-1 impact retention data.
Thin-wall USB-C charger housing molding at 1.0 mm nominal wall thickness imposes a UL 94 V-0 flame retardancy requirement that necessitates phosphorus-based FR masterbatch at 6–8 wt% compounded with the base resin; at 1.5 mm wall, the loading may be reduced to 4–6 wt%. Without FR masterbatch, the neat grade is classified as UL 94 HB. The critical processing parameter is injection speed: linear velocity must be maintained at 120–180 mm/s using a 40 mm diameter reciprocating screw with check ring on 150–200 ton electric machines. Mold temperature is held at 70–80°C; below 60°C, the skin layer solidifies prematurely, producing surface delamination and a 10–15% drop in Charpy notched impact per ISO 179-1/1eA. Formulation for a 1.0 mm USB-C housing: PC/ABS 5007 at 91.5–93.5 wt%, phosphorus FR masterbatch at 6–8 wt%, carbon black masterbatch at 0.5–1.0 wt%, processing aid at 0.2–0.5 wt%. Compliance: IEC 62368-1 for consumer electronic safety, IEC 60112 comparative tracking index ≥250 V for creepage distance reduction, RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU Annex II for PBB/PBDE <0.1 wt%, REACH Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 Article 33 for SVHC declaration. Production: 150–200 ton electric injection molding with nitrogen gas assist for thick boss sections near the prong socket; molded parts undergo 24 h annealing at 80°C before ultrasonic welding. Finished products: 65 W USB-C power delivery charger shell, 20 W smartphone adapter housing, multi-port GaN charger enclosure. Published data for CTI of the specific 5007 grade is limited; compound suppliers should provide lot-specific IEC 60112 test reports.
Clinically, the adoption of PC/ABS 5007 in non-patient-contact diagnostic equipment enclosures is evaluated through chemical resistance after repeated wipe-down with hospital-grade disinfectants: 70% isopropanol, 0.5% sodium hypochlorite, and quaternary ammonium at 1000 ppm. Extended isopropanol exposure >60 min at 23°C produces environmental stress cracking when residual molding stress exceeds 2 MPa measured by the hole-drill method per ASTM E837; annealing at 85°C for 2 h reduces internal stress to <0.5 MPa. Formulation: PC/ABS 5007 at 94–96 wt%, benzotriazole UV stabilizer masterbatch at 0.5–1.0 wt%, non-amine antistatic additive at 2.0–3.0 wt%. Amine-based additives are contraindicated due to base-catalyzed hydrolysis of polycarbonate during wipe-down with alkaline disinfectants. Compliance: ISO 10993-5 cytotoxicity (extraction method), ISO 10993-10 for sensitization and skin irritation, FDA 21 CFR 177.1580 for polycarbonate food-contact if the enclosure houses a sample tray, IEC 60601-1 for medical electrical equipment. Production: structural foam molding with chemical blowing agent at 0.3–0.5 wt% on 300–500 ton machines; two-shot capability for sealing gaskets. Weld line strength at enclosure corners is verified per ISO 527-2 tensile testing. Finished products: ultrasound cart chassis, patient monitor bezel, IV pump outer shell, portable X-ray detector housing covers. Standard autoclave sterilization at 121°C is outside the continuous-use temperature range; published data for this specific configuration is limited, and end users should conduct lot-specific compatibility testing per ISO 10993-1.
In AC wallbox enclosure applications, the compound is formulated with UV stabilizer masterbatch at 1.0–2.0 wt% HALS, carbon black masterbatch at 0.2–0.5 wt%, and silicone-based processing lubricant at 0.3–0.5 wt%, with PC/ABS 5007 base resin at 92–94 wt%. UV resistance per ISO 4892-2 at 0.35 W/m² and 340 nm for 1000 h requires ΔE <5.0 CIE units and >80% notched Izod impact retention. A critical processing conflict: thick-walled sections (4.0–6.0 mm) require 25–35 s cooling at mold temperature 80–90°C; below 70°C mold temperature, the surface develops a frosty appearance and the polycarbonate phase freezes into a brittle skin layer. Downstream production process: 350–500 ton injection molding with hydraulic clamping; gas-assisted injection avoids sink marks at rib intersections; dual-shot overmolding with 40 Shore A TPE gasket creates IP65-rated seals. Compliance: IEC 61851-1, UL 2594, IP65 per IEC 60529, UL 94 V-0 at 2.0 mm with FR masterbatch at 8–10 wt%, REACH Annex XVII for PAHs in rubber overmold. Operational boundary: exterior housings in UV index >11 climates require 2.0 wt% HALS and a 3-year maximum service life before ΔE exceeds 5.0; published data after 1500 h xenon exposure is limited. Finished products: 7.4 kW AC wallbox front cover, 22 kW charging station rear shell, DC fast charger control panel frame.
Vacuum cleaner motor housings and washing machine control panel frames are injection molded at 2.0–3.0 mm wall with formulation of 97–99 wt% PC/ABS 5007 and 1.0–2.0 wt% color masterbatch; melt temperature 250–260°C, mold temperature 60–70°C, compliance per IEC 60335-1 and UL 749. A two-stage packing profile (80 MPa for 2 s, then 40 MPa for 6 s) reduces sink marks at boss intersections, and residual stress is annealed at 80°C for 1 h post-molding. Finished product types include vacuum cleaner motor housings, brush roll end caps, floor scrubber tank supports, and washing machine control panel frames. No additional formulation constraints apply beyond standard drying at 95°C for 3 h.
In circuit breaker and relay socket applications, creep resistance at 105°C ambient under continuous spring-contact loading governs material selection. At 2.5–4.0 mm wall, the compound is formulated at PC/ABS 5007 91–93 wt%, phosphorus FR masterbatch 6–8 wt%, and antimony-free synergist 0.5–1.0 wt% if required by the masterbatch supplier. Weld line formation at the breaker toggle slot is the primary processing challenge: sequential valve gating suppresses weld lines, but a single edge gate cold runner reduces weld line strength to 40–50% of bulk tensile strength per ASTM D638-14. Mold temperature must be 80–90°C; at 60°C, weld line Charpy notched impact drops by 30% per ISO 179-1/1eA. Compliance: IEC 60695-2-11 glow wire at 850°C for 30 s without ignition, UL 94 V-0 at 3.0 mm, IEC 60112 CTI ≥250 V, REACH Annex XVII for heavy metal pigments. Production: 200–350 ton injection molding with boron nitride coated screws; residence time is limited to 6 min at 270°C to prevent polycarbonate chain scission. Finished products: miniature circuit breaker shell, relay socket body, terminal block cover, power distribution unit front panel. Published data for creep modulus at 105°C per ASTM D2990 is limited; end users should request lot-specific data from the compound supplier.

Dongguan Zhongen PC/ABS 5007 is a pelletized polycarbonate/acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene alloy supplied for injection-molded enclosures, brackets, and interior structural components. The product model designation is producer-specific: “PC/ABS” identifies the polymer alloy system, while “5007” is a portfolio sequence code without an ISO-defined viscosity class. Because the manufacturer’s batch certificate of analysis is not indexed in independent public repositories, grade-specific acceptance values must be read from lot documentation. The numeric bands shown in the following table are nominal process-design reference ranges for unfilled, medium-flow PC/ABS alloys of the same general class, not a substitute for a certified data sheet.
Where third-party conformity is required, the relevant test designations include ISO 1183-1, ISO 1133-1:2022, ISO 527-2/1A, ISO 180/A, and ISO 75-2/A. Test plaques should be injection molded under ISO 294-1 conditions and conditioned for 16 h at 23 °C and 50 % relative humidity before mechanical testing. Failure to control plaque mass and flow-front velocity during specimen production introduces scatter in Izod and tensile elongation that cannot be corrected by statistical averaging.

The primary separation between 5007-class material and general-purpose PC/ABS grades is made by melt volume-flow rate under ISO 1133-1:2022 rather than by visual appearance. A medium-flow alloy in the 15–25 cm³/10 min range at 260 °C/5 kg fills 1.5–2.5 mm wall sections at flow-length-to-thickness ratios up to 120:1 under 80–120 MPa hydraulic injection pressure on a single-cavity cold-runner tool. By comparison, unfilled PC/ABS with an MVR below 10 cm³/10 min may require more than 140 MPa for the same geometry and can exhibit gate blush or short-shot defects in thin ribs.
Relative to neat polycarbonate of comparable molecular weight, PC/ABS 5007-class material shifts the processing window downward: Vicat softening is typically 15–25 °C lower than high-viscosity polycarbonate, while low-temperature notched Izod may fall by 20–40 % against ISO 180/A at -30 °C. This trade-off is compensated by improved melt drawing in thin sections and lower processing pressure. Relative to ABS, the 5007-class alloy raises heat resistance under ISO 75-2/A to a band near 95–115 °C, which is typically 20–30 °C above medium-impact ABS grades, while retaining injection molding productivity.
Differences from filled variants are quantitative. A 10 wt% glass-fiber PC/ABS can exhibit flexural modulus above 4000 MPa, whereas unfilled 5007-class material remains below 3000 MPa. Mineral-filled grades reduce post-mold shrinkage to 0.2–0.4 % in the flow direction, but increase density to above 1.25 g/cm³; the unfilled alloy typically shows 0.5–0.7 % total mold shrinkage and lower tool wear. If the application requires UL 94 V-0 at 1.5 mm, a flame-retardant PC/ABS is specified, not an unfilled general-purpose 5007-class material unless the supplier certifies otherwise.
| Comparison class | MVR at 260 °C/5 kg | Vicat, ISO 306/B50 | Notched Izod, 23 °C, ISO 180/A | Typical constraint |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Low-flow general-purpose PC/ABS | <10 cm³/10 min | 122–135 °C | 55–70 kJ/m² | Pressure-limited filling in thin sections |
| Medium-flow 5007-class | 15–25 cm³/10 min | 118–130 °C | 45–65 kJ/m² | Knit-line retention and moisture control |
| High-flow unfilled PC/ABS | >30 cm³/10 min | 110–122 °C | 30–50 kJ/m² | Reduced low-temperature ductility |
| Flame-retardant PC/ABS | 12–25 cm³/10 min | 105–125 °C | 20–45 kJ/m² | UL 94 V-0 rating at target wall; higher density |
| Glass/mineral-filled PC/ABS | 5–15 cm³/10 min | 120–135 °C | 8–25 kJ/m² | Fibre orientation and anisotropic shrinkage |
The 5007 designation should not be used interchangeably with flame-retardant, UV-stabilized, or paint-adhesion-modified grades without explicit supplier documentation. Unfilled PC/ABS is not a transparent material and is not suitable for optical lenses or clear covers. The material should not be used for continuous service above 90 °C under structural load without creep-rupture evaluation under ISO 899-2 or equivalent.
Chemical exposure limits are important. Avoid contact with ketones, esters, aromatic hydrocarbons, strong alkaline media, and chlorinated solvents because these agents attack the PC phase and induce environmental stress cracking. For applications involving intermittent contact with automotive interior cleaners, validation should follow a controlled stress-cracking test such as ISO 22088-3 or a customer-specified bending-strain exposure protocol. Outdoor weatherability is limited in unpigmented unfilled PC/ABS; without UV absorbers or opaque pigmentation, surface chalking and microcracking can occur under xenon-arc exposure evaluated by ISO 4892-2.
Moisture control precedes melt preparation. The desiccant dryer hopper is maintained at 80–100 °C for 3–4 h, with inlet air dew point below -30 °C. Residual moisture above 0.02 wt% hydrolyzes the polycarbonate phase during plasticating; visible splay on the part surface is a late-stage indicator, but molecular weight reduction may already be present in the melt. On a 36:1 L/D twin-screw extruder, moisture-related viscosity loss appears as a 5–12 % drop in melt pressure at constant screw speed and barrel set point. Open-container exposure above 60 % relative humidity should be limited to less than 30 min unless the material is re-dried.
Barrel temperatures are maintained in a rising profile of 230–245 °C in the rear zone, 240–260 °C in the compression zone, and 250–270 °C at the metering zone and nozzle. A low-compression screw with a compression ratio of 2.0–2.5 and a back pressure of 3–7 MPa prevents phase separation and localized overheating. If melt temperature exceeds 300 °C for more than 10 min, polycarbonate degradation releases volatile by-products and induces yellowing; part surface shifts from neutral to amber-brown. For shutdown, the barrel is purged with unreinforced PC or a dedicated commercial PC/ABS purge grade, not olefinic purge compounds, because polyethylene or polypropylene residues reduce interlayer adhesion in the next production run.
Mold temperature exerts a stronger influence on surface replication and notched impact than barrel temperature within the allowable range. At a tool surface temperature below 50 °C, PC/ABS freezes a low-energy skin layer and notch sensitivity increases; surface gloss in textured areas becomes inconsistent. Raising tool temperature to 80–90 °C improves knit-line strength but extends cycle time by 5–15 s depending on wall thickness. Hot runners should use externally heated manifolds with thermocouple-balanced zones; internal hot-runner dead spots exacerbate residence-time distribution and are a known source of black specks in unpigmented 5007-class material.
Electronic enclosure tooling for a 1.8 mm nominal wall consumer electronics housing is configured with a single submarine gate at the rear flange and parting-line venting of 0.02–0.03 mm depth. Fill time measured by a cavity pressure transducer of 0.4–0.7 s maintains flow-front velocity above 200 mm/s in the main wall. Under these conditions, a medium-flow unfilled PC/ABS of 5007 class reaches a pressure drop of 60–85 MPa from nozzle to end of fill; the hold pressure is set at 70–85 % of the transfer pressure and held for 4–6 s before gate freeze. Premature hold release causes sink marks at screw bosses, while excessive hold pressure increases birefringence and part mass beyond drawing tolerance.
When ultrasonic welding is used on 5007-class parts, the joint design requires a triangular energy director with a peak height of 0.4–0.6 mm and a wall thickness at the base of 0.8–1.2 mm. Weld strength after 20 kHz ultrasonic joining at 35–45 µm amplitude can reach 75–85 % of the parent tensile yield stress, but this is geometry-specific. Solvent bonding with methyl ethyl ketone or dichloromethane is not recommended because aggressive solvent attack on the PC phase induces stress cracking in constrained regions; adhesive bonding with cyanoacrylate or structural acrylic is preferred only after corona or plasma surface treatment raising dyne level above 48 dyn/cm.
For structural applications requiring creep resistance under load, published data for this specific configuration is limited; qualification should include short-term creep testing at the maximum service temperature and stress state expected in the assembly. The unfilled alloy is not recommended for applications requiring continuous deflection recovery or for hydrocarbon-contact fuel-system components. Mold shrinkage should be measured on a cavity-specific basis, and critical dimensions should not be fixed from generic data alone.
