Dongguan Zhengxian PC/ABS 2326A is an unfilled injection-moulding grade based on a polycarbonate/acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene alloy. The model designation 2326A identifies a medium-flow impact/stiffness balance intended for thin-wall structural components; the manufacturer’s complete English-language datasheet for this exact grade is limited, so acceptance limits should be drawn from the lot-specific certificate of analysis rather than from generic PC/ABS reference data alone. Where product-specific values are unavailable, the performance envelope for unfilled general-purpose PC/ABS of the same medium-flow classification may be used for feasibility screening under ISO 10350-1:2017.
In unfilled PC/ABS systems, the polycarbonate-rich continuous phase contributes tensile yield resistance and low-temperature toughness, while the styrenic phase lowers melt viscosity and improves mould fill. Density for such grades typically falls between 1.10 g/cm³ and 1.18 g/cm³ when tested under ISO 1183-1:2019 or ASTM D792-20. For 2326A, an ash residue below 3 % under ISO 3451-1:2019 is consistent with an unfilled compound; if glass fibre were present, ash content and flexural modulus would be expected to rise to 10–30 % and 4.0–7.0 GPa respectively.
Melt-volume-rate screening is performed at 260 °C with a 5 kg load under ISO 1133-1:2022. A medium-flow injection grade in this composition class typically records MVR values between 12 cm³/10 min and 22 cm³/10 min; lower-flow variants are used for heavy-section impact parts, while higher-flow variants can compromise weld-line strength. The specific MVR of 2326A should be confirmed by the supplier, because the suffix in the model code may reflect an internal flow classification rather than a published melt index.
Flame-retardant PC/ABS compounds typically contain phosphorus-based additives or, in some export formulations, bromine/antimony systems to achieve UL 94 V-0 at thicknesses of 1.5 mm to 2.0 mm. These additives reduce melt flow relative to unfilled 2326A and can increase density to 1.18–1.25 g/cm³. Without a specific FR designation, 2326A should not be selected for enclosure walls requiring V-0 performance unless supplier documentation confirms flame-retardant loading. Published data for this specific configuration are limited; therefore, for e-mobility or power-supply housings requiring IEC 62368-1 fire enclosures, a listed FR grade is the technically defensible substitution.
Glass-fibre-reinforced PC/ABS grades at 10–20 wt% short glass raise tensile modulus from roughly 2.2 GPa to 4.0–5.5 GPa and lower notched Izod impact under ISO 180/A. The anisotropic shrinkage of glass-filled grades creates bow and warpage in flat housings, whereas unfilled 2326A can better maintain flatness at the cost of lower stiffness. Replacement of a glass-filled grade with 2326A is not a direct substitution if the part geometry relies on a flexural modulus above 4.0 GPa.
Compared with neat polycarbonate, 2326A is expected to process at lower melt pressure and to fill complex tools with reduced short-shot frequency; however, the ABS component eliminates optical clarity and reduces the continuous-use temperature ceiling relative to transparent polycarbonate. The material is therefore a candidate for opaque rigid housings and structural brackets, not for glazing or optical lenses.

The 2326A column is a feasibility range for unfilled medium-flow PC/ABS, not certified lot data. Without a supplier datasheet, design validation should include full characterisation on first production lots.
Where 2326A is run in hot-runner tools with wall sections below 1.5 mm, gate freeze time and holding-pressure decay determine dimensional stability more than barrel temperature alone. On a hydraulic injection moulding machine with clamp force in the 80–120 t range, a barrel temperature profile from rear to nozzle of 230–240 °C, 240–250 °C, 250–260 °C, and 250–265 °C is a typical starting point. Mould temperature should be held at 60–90 °C; lower mould temperatures reduce cycle time but produce higher frozen-in stress and can reduce notched Izod impact by 10–20 % relative to a fully developed morphology.
Drying is not optional. Because the polycarbonate phase undergoes hydrolytic molecular weight reduction when residual moisture exceeds 0.03 wt%, pellets should be dried in a desiccant-wheel dryer at 80–100 °C for 3–4 h to a moisture content below 0.02 wt%. The dryer should deliver a dew point of −30 °C or lower. Karl Fischer titration according to ISO 15512:2019 is the preferred moisture check; visible splay on parts is a late indicator. If splay is observed, the first corrective action is dryer dew-point and residence-time review, not an immediate increase in barrel temperature.
Residence time at 260 °C should be kept below 8–10 min. Prolonged residence shifts the melt toward lower viscosity and generates yellowing measurable as an increase in yellowness index under ASTM D6290-19. Processors should maintain shot-size utilisation of 50–80 % of barrel capacity; if shot weight is less than 30 % of barrel capacity, a smaller screw or accumulator machine may reduce degradation risk.
High-shear dispersion is not required for 2326A because it is a pre-compounded unfilled grade; screw designs with L/D 20–24 and compression ratio 2.0–2.5 are sufficient. Back pressure should be set at 0.3–0.7 MPa. Vented barrels must not draw air backward through the vacuum vent; if venting is used, the vent should be maintained at atmospheric pressure or slight vacuum while the feed throat remains sealed. Hot-runner systems should use externally heated manifolds with independent tip control to avoid dead spots where material can stagnate.
When residual moisture exceeds 0.03 wt% at the feed throat, carbonate linkages in the polycarbonate phase hydrolyze during plasticating. The first observable processing consequence is a melt-viscosity drop: MVR may increase by 10–30 % when measured under ISO 1133-1:2022, and the machine may record lower melt pressure at the same screw speed. This is not improved flow for thin-wall filling; it is polymer chain scission. Resulting parts often show silver streaks on the flow path, weld-line weakening, and a reduction in notched Izod impact under ISO 180/A at 23 °C of 20–40 % compared with dry material.
Stress-cracking incompatibilities also impose boundaries. The ABS phase may tolerate aliphatic hydrocarbons better than neat polycarbonate, but aromatic solvents such as xylene, toluene, and methyl ethyl ketone attack the polycarbonate phase and should not be used for wiping or temporary marking. Mould-release selection should avoid amine-based agents; amines can catalyse polycarbonate degradation at processing temperature. If a mould-release or anti-scratch coating is required, silicone-based external agents with low VOC content should be adopted only after adhesion testing under ISO 2409:2020.
Material incompatibility with barrel residues of acetal, PVC, or PET can cause gas generation and black specks. Purging between material transitions should use HDPE or a commercial PC purge compound at the same melt temperature range. Residual PVC in a dead spot can release HCl and attack both polycarbonate and steel surfaces; the evidence is surface haze and a distinct acidic odour at the die. A dedicated screw and nonreturn-valve design for PC/ABS is recommended where lot-to-lot colour consistency below ΔE 1.0 under CIELAB is required.
For enclosure parts subject to mechanical impact and moderate heat, feasibility is tied to the HDT/A plateau of 95–110 °C under load. For continuous service, a thermal index under IEC 60216-1 or UL 746B should be obtained from the compounder; typical unfilled PC/ABS grades may receive a relative temperature index from 60 °C to 80 °C with impact retention, but this is grade-specific and should not be inferred for 2326A without a yellow card or supplier declaration.
Electrical design should use the comparative tracking index under IEC 60112:2020 for creepage spacing. Unfilled PC/ABS commonly falls in the 250–600 V window; if the 2326A value is below 250 V, the insulation coordination rules of IEC 60664-1 may require larger creepage distances. Arc resistance and hot-wire ignition values are not intrinsic constants and must be verified for the specific colour concentrate, because carbon black or titanium dioxide levels above 2–3 wt% can shift electrical behaviour.
Export-oriented moulders must obtain documentation for the specific 2326A colour and lot, because compliance is formulation-dependent. The following matrix lists the assessment route rather than a confirmation of 2326A certification.
| Regulatory domain | Applicable reference | Typical test or documentation route | Relevance to 2326A |
|---|---|---|---|
| RoHS recast | Directive 2011/65/EU | IEC 62321 series, XRF screening and wet chemistry | Required for lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, PBB and PBDE; PC/ABS colourants can contain restricted metals |
| REACH SVHC | Regulation 1907/2006/EC | Supplier SDS and SVHC disclosure under Article 33 | Required when selling into the EU; may include flame-retardant breakdown products in certain grades |
| UL yellow card | UL 94 / UL 746B | File number verification at UL iQ | Needed for electrical enclosures and fire barriers; 2326A may not carry a yellow card |
| China GB/T | GB/T 26572-2011 | Restriction of hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment | Required for domestic electrical and electronic products in China |
| Food contact | EU 10/2011/EC or FDA 21 CFR | Overall migration under EN 1186 / FDA 21 CFR 177.1580 | Not assumed for 2326A; no food-contact claim should be made without grade-specific certification |
This matrix does not certify 2326A; it defines the minimum supplier documentation required before production release. Absence of a yellow card or food-contact statement should be treated as non-compliance rather than assumed compliance.
