Application of Dongguan Yitong Plastic ABS 15A1

Electrical enclosure programmes using Dongguan Yitong Plastic ABS 15A1 generally involve indoor consumer units, telecom wall boxes, and instrumentation chassis where creepage distance, dimensional reproducibility, and screw-boss integrity are controlling parameters rather than a V-0 classification. The unfilled ABS pellet is dried in a desiccant dryer at 80–85°C for 3–4 h to a target moisture content below 0.02 wt% by Karl Fischer titration; dew-point control at ≤−30°C is required because residual moisture hydrolyses processing aids and produces silver streaking on the outer surface. Moulded wall thickness is normally maintained between 2.0 mm and 3.2 mm, with a minimum rib thickness of 0.6× the nominal wall and a minimum boss wall of 0.8× nominal wall to reduce sink mark formation at screw locations.

On production-scale hydraulic injection moulding machines in the 120–160 ton clamp range with general-purpose screws of 18:1–22:1 L/D and compression ratio 2.0:1–2.5:1, melt temperature is controlled at 220–240°C, measured by nozzle pyrometer, while mould temperature is held at 45–70°C depending on the required surface finish. Clamp force is calculated at 3.0–5.0 kN/cm² of projected area including runner scrap; a projected-area underestimation below 3.0 kN/cm² produces flash at the parting line. Injection velocity is set to 50–120 mm/s, holding pressure to 40–70 MPa, back pressure to 0.5–1.5 MPa, and screw speed to 60–120 rpm with a cushion of 3–6 mm and decompression of 2–5 mm before screw retraction to prevent nozzle stringing.

The mechanical acceptance of the moulded enclosure is evaluated according to ISO 527-2 for tensile yield, ISO 178 for flexural modulus, and ISO 179-1/1eA for notched Charpy impact; unfilled injection-grade ABS of this class typically yields tensile strength in the 38–45 MPa band and flexural modulus between 2000 MPa and 2500 MPa, but the supplier lot certificate must be used for final verification because polymerisation and compounding variation can shift these values. Electrical performance is assessed through IEC 60112 comparative tracking index and IEC 60664-1 creepage and clearance requirements, while flame classification is limited to UL 94 HB at 1.5 mm and 3.0 mm unless a flame-retardant variant is substituted.

The operational boundary for an ABS 15A1 electrical enclosure is indoor service below 60°C continuous surface temperature because the heat deflection temperature under 1.82 MPa by ISO 75-2/Af generally remains below 100°C and creep under screw torque accelerates above 50°C. Exposure to aromatic hydrocarbons, esters, or ketones must be excluded because localised solvent stress cracking can occur at moulded-in stress concentrations; if the enclosure is used in a high-humidity environment above 60% RH, pre-drying must be repeated immediately before moulding and sealed foil-lined packaging must be maintained after drying. Direct outdoor exposure is not specified for this grade unless UV-stabilised formulations are confirmed by the supplier.

What Etch and Activation Sequence Reduces Plating Blistering on ABS 15A1 Automotive Trim?

Decorative automotive trim parts made from ABS 15A1—HVAC surround bezels, steering-wheel switch rings, door trim inserts—are specified as satin chrome or bright chrome assemblies that must survive thermal cycling without blistering or adhesion loss. Published data for Dongguan Yitong Plastic ABS 15A1 as a plating grade is limited; the sequence below is valid only after the supplier confirms that the butadiene content and rubber particle size distribution are sufficient to produce micro-roughness in chromic acid etching. The etch bath is operated at 380–420 g/L CrO₃ and 180–220 g/L H₂SO₄ at 58–65°C for 4–8 min, producing etch sites of 0.2–0.5 µm diameter visible as micro-voids under scanning electron microscopy; over-etching beyond 10 min degrades the acrylonitrile-styrene matrix and reduces peel strength.

After neutralisation in 5–10 vol% hydrochloric acid and rinsing, the substrate is immersed in a colloidal palladium-tin catalyst at 25–35°C for 3–5 min, followed by an accelerator step to remove excess stannous chloride. Electroless nickel is deposited from a hypophosphite bath at 65°C and pH 8.8–9.2 to a thickness of 0.3–0.5 µm before electrolytic copper buildup of 20–30 µm; the copper layer is then overplated with semi-bright nickel 8–12 µm and chromium 0.2–0.5 µm. Plating adhesion is measured according to ASTM B533, with decorative automotive trim commonly requiring a peel strength above 0.8 kN/m. Thermal shock performance is screened using ASTM B553 cycles between −30°C and +80°C; blistering, cracking, or delamination within 3 cycles is cause for rejection.

Moulded-in stress remains the main production-scale failure source. High holding pressure above 70 MPa or excessive packing near the gate creates residual stress that relaxes when the plated part is exposed to thermal shock and produces pop defects at the plating interface. Mould temperature for plating-intent ABS 15A1 parts should be raised to 70–80°C with a pressurised water or oil temperature-control unit, and the holding pressure should be reduced to the lowest value that prevents sink marks. A sequential valve-gated hot runner is preferred over cold runner gate marks because gate vestiges produce local stress concentration that is amplified by chromic acid etching.

The operational boundary for plated ABS 15A1 is decorative interior use; exterior chrome trim on grilles or badges is not appropriate unless the part passes ASTM D2247 humidity-condensation testing and UV resistance requirements beyond the scope of general-purpose ABS. Solvent exposure to aromatic hydrocarbons or oxygenated solvents in cleaners can migrate through microcracks in the electroplated layers and initiate stress cracking; contact with such chemicals must be excluded in assembly and field use.

Appliance Control Panel Housing: UL 746C RTI and Low-Temperature Rib Impact Retention

Appliance housings using ABS 15A1—washing-machine control panels, refrigerator display frames, and air-conditioner controller boxes—require simultaneous retention of screw torque, snap-fit assembly force, and dimensional positioning across a temperature band that extends below freezing during shipping. The relative thermal index under UL 746C becomes the primary long-term thermal criterion; unfilled ABS grades of this class typically report electrical RTI values in the 60–70°C band at 1.5–3.0 mm, but only the UL yellow card for the exact Dongguan Yitong Plastic ABS 15A1 colour and thickness can be used in final certification. The HDT under 1.82 MPa by ISO 75-2/Af is generally reported between 85°C and 95°C, while the Vicat softening temperature by ISO 306/B50 falls between 95°C and 105°C; these values define short-term resistance, not continuous load-bearing capacity.

Notched Izod impact testing according to ASTM D256 on 3.2 mm bars commonly shows room-temperature values of 200–350 J/m for unfilled ABS of this type, but the value drops sharply when the test is carried out at −20°C or −30°C because the butadiene rubber phase approaches its glass transition. Ribbed sections in control panel housings are not represented by thick-bar data; the effective low-temperature ductility of a 1.5 mm rib is often lower than the material data sheet suggests. Production-scale observation on a 160-ton hydraulic moulding machine with a 22:1 L/D screw indicates that rib cracking during cold shipping can be reduced by relocating the gate to avoid weld lines in rib roots, raising mould temperature to 60–70°C, and reducing packing pressure below 50 MPa to limit residual stress. Published data for the specific ABS 15A1 low-temperature rib geometry is limited; a moulded-part Charpy or instrumented puncture test per ISO 6603-2 is required for any low-temperature claim.

Control panel housings must be assessed against IEC 60335-1 for household appliance insulation and fire hazard; ABS 15A1 at 2.0 mm wall can meet glow-wire end-product requirements when the appliance design provides adequate clearance and shielding, but the raw material by itself carries only UL 94 HB classification. Contact with kitchen cleaners containing ketones, esters, or aromatic solvents must be avoided because stress cracking can develop at snap-fit undercuts; chemical resistance screening is performed according to ASTM D543 with the actual cleaner formulation.

Four-cell lithium-ion battery pack housings and corded drill motor clamshells represent a boundary application for Dongguan Yitong Plastic ABS 15A1 because the mechanical load shifts from short-term tensile strength to repeated drop, vibration, and screw-boss torque retention at reduced wall sections. The housing is normally moulded with a nominal wall of 2.0–2.5 mm, with bosses designed to an outer diameter of 2.0× the screw thread diameter and a hole diameter of 0.75× the screw outer diameter to allow thread forming without excessive hoop stress. On a 180-ton hydraulic moulding machine with a 20:1 L/D screw, melt temperature is maintained at 230–240°C, mould temperature at 50–70°C, and injection speed at 80–150 mm/s to fill the thin bridge between the battery cell pocket and the outer wall; holding pressure is kept below 60 MPa to avoid packing-induced brittleness around the gate.

Mechanical acceptance of ABS 15A1 in this application is evaluated by ISO 527-2 tensile yield, ISO 178 flexural modulus, and ASTM D256 notched Izod at both 23°C and −20°C. A general-purpose unfilled ABS of this class typically shows tensile yield between 38 MPa and 45 MPa and flexural modulus between 2000 MPa and 2400 MPa; the low-temperature Izod retention is the controlling risk. The material is not recommended for drop-critical power tool bodies at −30°C unless lot-specific impact data and moulded-part drop results support the design; power tool housings that require repeated impact from 2 m onto concrete are more commonly served by PC/ABS or impact-modified ABS grades.

Vibration fatigue screening follows IEC 60068-2-64 with swept sine or random vibration profiles relevant to the end-use tool category; clip and screw-boss areas are inspected after 500,000 cycles for microcracking at the root of the boss. The screw-boss failure mode observed on production-scale assembly lines is ductile pull-out rather than shattering when the boss wall is above 1.8 mm and the screw insertion torque is limited to the thread-forming recommendation of the fastener supplier. If the housing is stored or shipped at high humidity above 60% RH, pre-drying at 80°C for 3–4 h is required before moulding because surface moisture absorption can generate splay and inter-laminar weakness at weld lines.

The operational boundary includes indoor use below 60°C continuous ambient and absence of contact with hydrocarbon-based greases, aromatic solvents, and oxygenated solvent cleaners that can induce environmental stress cracking. Direct bearing loads from metal inserts are not recommended without finite-element analysis because ABS 15A1 exhibits creep under sustained tensile stress above 50°C, and the RTI mechanical-with-impact rating under UL 746C for general-purpose ABS of this class typically does not exceed 60°C.

When a High-Gloss Consumer Electronics Enclosure Is Specified Without Repeated Exposure to Ketone Cleaners

The specification of Dongguan Yitong Plastic ABS 15A1 for router housings, LCD monitor bezels, keyboard covers, and television stand fascias is commonly driven by the ability to produce a uniform surface gloss at moderate tooling cost. The mould cavity is polished to an SPI A-2 diamond finish, and the mould temperature is held at 70–80°C using a pressurised water or oil temperature-control unit to allow surface replication without premature freeze-off. Melt temperature is set at 230–250°C, injection velocity at 100–200 mm/s, and holding pressure at 30–60 MPa, with a switch-over position chosen to avoid overpacking the gate. A valve-gated hot runner with a sequential opening program is used on multi-cavity production tools of 8–32 cavities to prevent hesitation lines and jetting.

Gloss is quantified with a 60° specular gloss meter according to ASTM D523; for black ABS 15A1 moulded against an SPI A-2 surface, values in the 80–95 GU range are typical, but the exact reading depends on colour, texture, tool polish, and pigment dispersion. Haze and flow lines are assessed visually against ISO 2813 reflectance limits; flow-line appearance can be suppressed by raising mould temperature to the upper end of the range and by relocating gates away from visible surfaces. The surface hardness of ABS 15A1 is not scratch-resistant; pencil hardness per ASTM D3363 typically falls in the 2B–HB range, and a protective clear coat may be specified if abrasion is expected.

The chemical boundary is the limiting specification parameter. High-gloss ABS 15A1 housings must be excluded from service where repeated wiping with ketone-containing cleaners, esters, or aromatic hydrocarbon solvents is expected because these agents rapidly initiate environmental stress cracking at gate vestiges and snap-fit ribs. Isopropyl alcohol at 70 vol% may be tolerated for occasional wiping but not for immersion; chemical resistance screening follows ASTM D543 under 24 h contact. If the housing is placed near a heat source, the continuous operating temperature should not exceed 60°C because gloss surfaces can develop exudation haze from mould-release agents and processing aids above this threshold.

The lot certificate for ABS 15A1 should report melt volume-flow rate by ISO 1133-1 and density by ISO 1183-1; unfilled ABS injection grades of this class typically exhibit MVR values of 15–25 cm³/10 min at 220°C/10 kg and density of 1.04–1.06 g/cm³, but cavity balance calculations must use the actual lot data rather than generic class values.

In bathroom control enclosures, bidet seat covers, and water-pump terminal boxes, Dongguan Yitong Plastic ABS 15A1 is subjected to humidity cycling that creates dimensional movement through water absorption. The equilibrium water uptake of unfilled ABS is low relative to polyamide or PC, but ISO 62 exposure at 23°C typically produces mass gain between 0.2% and 0.7% at saturation; in a 100 mm long wall, a 0.3% moisture-related dimensional movement can exceed 0.05 mm when combined with thermal expansion. The coefficient of linear thermal expansion is measured by ISO 11359-2; unfilled ABS of this class typically reports 80–100 × 10⁻⁶ K⁻¹ parallel to flow, and moulded panels must be designed with clearances that absorb this movement.

Moulding for humid-service ABS 15A1 parts uses a desiccant dryer at 80°C for 3–4 h with a dew point of ≤−30°C, followed by immediate processing in a closed conveying system to prevent re-absorption before the hopper throat. Melt temperature is kept in the 220–240°C band, mould temperature at 50–70°C, and holding pressure at 40–65 MPa to minimise internal voids that can act as capillary pathways into the wall. Brass inserts used in bathroom control enclosures must be preheated to 80–100°C before insertion or moulded-in with a textured outer knurl; cold inserts produce radial tensile stress that later relaxes under humid cycling and can crack the boss.

The hydrolytic stability of ABS 15A1 is better than polycarbonate under warm-water exposure, but the butadiene rubber phase can undergo oxidative attack in chlorinated water above 40°C over extended service. Continuous immersion in hot water above 60°C is not recommended because the polymer modulus declines and the tensile creep rate increases. Electrical safety for bathroom control boxes follows IEC 60335-1 and relevant product-specific clauses; ABS 15A1 in its unfilled form is limited to UL 94 HB, so live-parts separation and creepage design must not rely on the resin for arc containment. If potable-water contact is involved, the part must be assessed under NSF/ANSI 61 or equivalent; general-purpose ABS 15A1 is not automatically certified for this exposure and must be verified with the supplier.

Stress cracking in humid bathroom environments frequently originates from assembly lubricants and sealants rather than water alone. Silicone greases are generally less aggressive than hydrocarbon greases, but any grease containing aromatic fractions can initiate environmental stress cracking at snap-fit corners; compatibility testing follows ASTM D543 under the actual assembly lubricant. Moulded-in colorants and pigments must also be checked for wet-service use because some organic pigments can leach at 60°C and create visible track marks on light-coloured parts.

    More Introduction

Dongguan Yitong Plastic ABS 15A1 is a pelletised acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene copolymer supplied for injection moulding and profile extrusion. The alphanumeric designation places the material in the general-purpose ABS segment, with a nominal melt flow-rate target in the range of 12–18 g/10 min when measured at 220°C under a 10.0 kg load in accordance with ISO 1133-1:2022. Independent product-specific property data for this exact supplier designation are limited; batch certificates from Dongguan Yitong Plastic therefore remain the controlling source for guaranteed values. The resin is typically processed in natural or pre-coloured pellet form and is used for appliance housings, electronics enclosures, automotive interior trim, toys, and general technical mouldings. With a styrene-acrylonitrile matrix and dispersed polybutadiene phase, ABS 15A1 provides a balance of rigidity, impact resistance, and mild chemical resistance. Unlike high-flow ABS grades, the 15A1 designation indicates a moderate melt flow path that may favour part nominal wall thicknesses above 1.2 mm and moderate flow-length-to-thickness ratios.

What Drying Regime and Thermal History Prevent Surface Splay in ABS 15A1?

Predrying in a desiccant dryer is required. Moisture content should be reduced below 0.05 wt% before melt processing, because ABS pellets absorb atmospheric water at rates of 0.2–0.6 wt% under uncontrolled warehouse conditions. A drying temperature of 80°C for 2–4 h is typical for virgin pellets; reground material or material exposed to relative humidity above 60% may require extension to 4–6 h. Hopper residence time should not exceed 6 h at 80°C to avoid oxidative yellowing. Melt temperature measured at the nozzle is maintained between 200°C and 240°C, with the lower third of the range preferred for thick sections and the upper third for fast-cycle thin-wall parts. Mould surface temperature is controlled between 40°C and 80°C; higher temperatures improve weld-line strength and gloss but increase cooling time. Back pressure of 0.5–1.5 MPa and screw surface speed below 0.3 m/s limit frictional heating. Production-scale experience on 800–1600 kN clamp-force presses indicates that hold pressure should be 50–70% of peak injection pressure, with gate seal time established by part weight stabilisation rather than by fixed timer alone.

Plasticating is normally conducted on a general-purpose screw with L/D of 20:1 and compression ratio of 2.5:1. Screw rotation speed should be limited to 0.2–0.4 m/s peripheral speed to avoid rubber-phase degradation. If the material is compounded on a co-rotating twin-screw extruder with L/D 40, barrel settings from 190°C to 230°C and screw speed from 300 rpm to 500 rpm are used for pelletising and masterbatch dilution. These extrusion parameters are not directly transferable to injection moulding and may vary with the stabiliser package. Localised colourant agglomeration must be avoided when adding 2–4 wt% colour carrier, because agglomerates can act as crack-initiation sites under impact loading. The practical thermal window for the material is therefore approximately ±10°C from a 220°C barrel-zone set point, while the nozzle should remain below 240°C unless local shear heating is confirmed by melt-temperature probing.

For melt delivery analysis, apparent viscosity of general-purpose ABS with a melt flow rate near 15 g/10 min is typically reported between 90 Pa·s and 140 Pa·s at 220°C and a shear rate of 1000 s⁻¹. A capillary rheometer fitted with a 1 mm diameter die and L/D ratio of 16:1 permits comparative shear-sweep data; publication of specific capillary data for Dongguan Yitong Plastic ABS 15A1 is limited, so process simulation should not rely on unverified curve-fit coefficients. In hot-runner systems, the resin should remain above 210°C in the manifold, and residence time below 120 s is preferred to limit thermal degradation. When regrind is used, addition is typically limited to 20–30 wt% for appearance-critical parts because repeated heat history incrementally reduces notched Izod impact. The melt exhibits pseudoplastic behaviour; pressure drop across a 1.0 mm flow channel increases by a factor of approximately 1.6 when nominal wall thickness is reduced from 1.5 mm to 1.0 mm, based on ISO 11443:2021 capillary measurements for similar grades. This relationship makes simulation of gate freeze time and cushion control necessary for stable part mass.

Table 1 separates audit standard and generic ABS reference envelope from the nominal ABS 15A1 target because batch-specific data for Dongguan Yitong Plastic ABS 15A1 are not independently published in this format.

Comparative Mechanical Response Against HIPS and PC/ABS in Rigid Enclosure Applications

Relative to high-impact polystyrene, ABS 15A1 typically exhibits higher notched Izod impact strength, higher heat deflection temperature, and improved resistance to aliphatic hydrocarbons and many cosmetic lotions. HIPS moulding grades commonly report notched Izod values of 5–12 kJ/m² at 23°C by ISO 180/A, compared with the 15–30 kJ/m² envelope of general-purpose ABS. Heat deflection temperature of HIPS is frequently 75–85°C at 1.82 MPa, which restricts use near heat sources and in dark-coloured automotive interior panels. ABS 15A1 also provides better gloss uniformity and scratch resistance than unreinforced HIPS. Relative to PC/ABS blends, the 15A1 designation offers a lower continuous service ceiling: PC/ABS typically retains HDT/A of 105–125°C at 1.82 MPa and notched Izod values of 40–60 kJ/m², but at higher melt viscosity and higher unit cost. A moderate-flow ABS such as 15A1 occupies an intermediate position in flow length, impact resistance, and cost. Substitution should be validated using ISO 294-3 part families and ISO 527-2 tensile bars because colour masterbatch and regrind content shift the ductile-brittle transition temperature.

Flexural modulus of general-purpose ABS at 23°C typically ranges from 2200 MPa to 2600 MPa under ISO 178:2019, while HIPS is commonly 1500–1900 MPa. The density of natural ABS is 1.04–1.06 g/cm³; PC/ABS density is 1.12–1.20 g/cm³. These differences influence part weight and linear shrinkage. ABS 15A1 mould shrinkage in flow direction is typically 0.4–0.6%, and transverse shrinkage 0.5–0.7%, measured on a 60 mm × 60 mm × 2 mm plaque per ISO 294-4. Toolmakers should add a shrinkage allowance of approximately 0.5% for unfilled material and validate after first sampling. Differences from PC/ABS also extend to moisture sensitivity: PC/ABS requires drying at 90–110°C for 3–4 h, whereas ABS 15A1 requires lower drying temperature and is more tolerant of short exposure.

Chemical compatibility of ABS 15A1 is governed by the styrene-acrylonitrile matrix and the polybutadiene rubber phase. The material resists dilute aqueous acids, alkalis, many aliphatic hydrocarbons, and detergents. It is not resistant to aromatic solvents, ketones, esters, or chlorinated hydrocarbons; acetone and methyl ethyl ketone cause rapid stress cracking. Environmental stress cracking can occur under applied strain in contact with certain surfactants, plasticiser migration from soft PVC, and some anti-corrosion oils. Compatibility evaluation follows ISO 22088-3:2006 bent-strip testing or ASTM D543-21 immersion at 23°C for 24 h and 7 d. Under a strain of 0.5%, a 30% reduction in notched Izod impact after chemical exposure generally indicates an unacceptable ESCR risk for load-bearing ribs and snap-fits. For painted or coated parts, adhesion is best after removal of silicone mould release. Because the polybutadiene phase is unsaturated, long-term UV exposure leads to chalking and embrittlement; ABS 15A1 is therefore an indoor or partially protected outdoor grade unless a cap layer or UV stabiliser package is used.

    When Thin-Wall Tooling Transfers from a 30 g/10 min High-Flow Grade to ABS 15A1

When a processor transfers an existing 1.0–1.2 mm nominal wall tool from a 30 g/10 min high-flow ABS to ABS 15A1, the lower melt flow rate increases filling pressure. The absence of published spiral-flow data for this specific grade makes mould-filling simulation with a generic 15 g/10 min ABS viscosity curve the minimum prerequisite before steel trials. On similar grades, a wall thickness reduction from 1.5 mm to 1.0 mm can shorten flow length by 25–40% at the same injection pressure and mould temperature. In practice, the mould temperature may need to be raised from 40°C to 60°C, and peak injection pressure raised by 15–25% to maintain filling of ribs and bosses. Excessive holding pressure above 80 MPa can create gate blush, warpage, and frozen-in stress. For living hinges and snap-fit features, the lower flow grade should be gated perpendicular to the flow direction and positioned away from weld lines. Scientific moulding protocols based on cavity-pressure transfer at 40–60 MPa are recommended rather than timer-based switchover.

Typical applications for ABS 15A1 include vacuum cleaner housings, small appliance covers, power tool casings, network equipment fascia, toys, and general injection-moulded components. In all commercial applications, resin lot approval should include measurement of melt flow rate, notched Izod, tensile yield, and heat deflection temperature on the same colour masterbatch and regrind ratio intended for production. Regulatory compliance cannot be assumed from grade chemistry alone. The supplier must confirm RoHS compliance under Directive 2011/65/EU as amended by (EU) 2015/863, and Article 33 communication duties under Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 for REACH if applicable. Food-contact status is not automatic; if the part is intended for repeated food contact, the supplier must provide a written declaration against a specific migration standard such as Commission Regulation (EU) No 10/2011. Flammability of natural general-purpose ABS is usually rated HB under UL 94; applications requiring V-0 or 5VB must use a flame-retardant ABS or PC/ABS, not ABS 15A1. Colour matching is typically performed by melt-compounding using 1–3 wt% masterbatch, with a twin-co-rotating extruder or injection-screw mixing. Poor distributor mixing can create visible streaks and reduce weld-line strength.

Incoming quality control should retain pellets in sealed moisture-barrier bags, and bags should be opened only at the processing floor. Melt flow rate should be checked on every incoming lot, and mechanical properties on every production batch or as agreed with the supplier. Part mass variation within ±0.15%, cushion position between 2.5 mm and 5.0 mm, and screw recovery time below 80% of cooling time limit part-to-part variation on injection machines. If recycled ABS is blended, the supplier should disclose the type and content; post-industrial ABS from electronic scrap may contain brominated flame retardants and is not automatically RoHS-compliant. This is an important difference from virgin ABS 15A1. Natural ABS 15A1 is translucent to opaque ivory-white and is commonly tinted. Gloss is influenced by mould finish and mould temperature; at 80°C surface gloss on a polished N0 SPI mould can reach 85–95 GU, while at 40°C gloss may fall below 70 GU. If colour consistency is critical, masterbatch let-down ratio must be controlled to within ±0.2 wt% and regrind ratio fixed. A written supplier declaration for the exact batch, colourant, and regrind content is therefore required before the material is released for production.
