Supplier documentation identifies Dongguan Yiduo PC/ABS 3100F as a flame-retardant, higher-flow polycarbonate/acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene alloy intended for injection-moulded enclosures, internal brackets, and thin-wall electrical housings. The grade is specified with a melt volume-flow rate in the range 18–22 cm³/10 min under 260 °C/5.0 kg load according to ISO 1133-1:2022, placing it above many halogenated and phosphorus-based flame-retardant PC/ABS blends of equivalent UL 94 classification. The formulation is reported as a phosphorus-based flame-retardant system without polybrominated diphenyl ethers or polybrominated biphenyls; the specific phosphate ester concentration is not disclosed in general product literature. Published independent data for this exact commercial grade are limited, so the numerical values below are taken from the supplier’s technical data sheet and should be confirmed against the current certificate of analysis for each lot. The product is supplied in natural and black variations, and colourant packages influence final flame-retardant and mechanical performance. Typical production lots are packaged in 25 kg moisture-barrier bags. If a bag is opened for more than 2 h at ambient relative humidity above 60 %, pre-drying is mandatory. Storage should be maintained at 20–30 °C; sustained storage above 35 °C may accelerate phosphate ester migration to pellet surfaces and alter melt stability.
Typical injection-moulded property data are obtained from 4.0 mm ISO multipurpose specimens conditioned at 23 °C/50 % RH for 48 h. The tensile modulus is reported at 2,450 MPa under ISO 527-2:2012 at a test speed of 1 mm/min, with tensile yield strength at 54 MPa. Flexural modulus measured at 2 mm/min under ISO 178:2019 is 2,350 MPa. Charpy notched impact strength under ISO 179-1/1eA:2023 at 23 °C is 38 kJ/m², declining to 10 kJ/m² at −30 °C; this low-temperature decline is characteristic of PC/ABS and defines a lower boundary for snap-fit retention in unheated installations. Heat deflection temperature under 1.82 MPa according to ISO 75-2:2013 method A is 88 °C, and Vicat softening temperature under 50 N load is 105 °C per ISO 306:2022 method B50. Density is 1.18 g/cm³ under ISO 1183-1:2019, and mould shrinkage in flow direction is 0.5–0.7 % according to ISO 294-4:2018. Capillary rheometry at 260 °C gives apparent shear viscosity of 210–240 Pa·s at 100 s⁻¹ and 90–110 Pa·s at 1,000 s⁻¹ under ISO 11443:2021, indicating shear-thinning behaviour that supports filling of long flow paths in thin sections.

Processing begins with forced desiccant drying. The supplier’s processing recommendation for 3100F specifies 4 h at 80–85 °C to a residual moisture below 0.02 wt%, with a drying hopper dew point of −40 °C or lower. Field observations on a 1200 kN hydraulic injection-moulding machine with a 25 mm general-purpose screw and 20:1 L/D barrel indicate that residual moisture above 0.03 wt% produces gate-splay, surface silver streaks, and brittle snap-arm fracture because the polycarbonate phase undergoes hydrolytic chain scission at barrel temperatures above 260 °C. The melt temperature should be maintained at 240–260 °C, with the nozzle at 250 °C and the mould at 60–80 °C. Thin-wall parts typically require injection pressures of 80–120 MPa, hold pressures between 40 % and 60 % of the peak injection value, back pressure of 0.5–1.0 MPa, and screw rotation of 60–100 min⁻¹. Residence time should not exceed 8 min. Dead spots or hot spots in the barrel and hot runner cause brown streaking from ABS degradation and black specks from carbonised PC residue. Amine-based additives, including some amine-functional colour concentrates and mould-release preparations, should be avoided because amine species catalyse transesterification in the PC phase at processing temperatures above 270 °C. Hot-runner manifolds should be held at 250–255 °C, and thermal shutdown logic should activate above 260 °C to limit colour shift. Gate freeze time for a 1.5 mm wall with a 2.5 mm diameter tunnel gate is approximately 2.5–3.5 s at 70 °C mould temperature. Packing decay should be set to hold the gate sealed; early release produces sink marks in bosses and ribs. On a 40:1 L/D twin-screw extrusion compounding line, batch-to-batch variance in low-temperature impact is stated by the supplier as less than ±5 % of the mean. Production trials with 25 % regrind show a 15–20 % reduction in notched impact, so regrind is limited to 20 % for UL 94-compliant parts. Mould temperatures above 85 °C are not recommended because phosphate ester plate-out on the cavity surface increases gloss variation and extends ejection time. The consequence of excess moisture is autocatalytic hydrolysis: PC molecular weight can drop by more than 25 % after 10 min at 280 °C with 0.05 wt% residual moisture, based on general PC hydrolysis kinetics; supplier-specific data for 3100F are limited.
UL 94 classification is reported by the supplier as V-0 at 1.5 mm and V-1 at 0.8 mm. The classification is colour-sensitive and regrind-sensitive; revalidation is necessary when black masterbatch load exceeds 1.0 wt% or when regrind content exceeds 20 %. The formulation is declared compliant with EU RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU and amending Directive (EU) 2015/863, including the 0.1 wt% threshold for polybrominated diphenyl ethers and 0.01 wt% for cadmium. REACH SVHC compliance is declared against the current candidate list at the date of the supplier certificate. No food-contact clearance under FDA 21 CFR 177 or EU Regulation 10/2011 is claimed, and no medical-grade biocompatibility under ISO 10993-1 should be inferred without batch-specific extraction testing. The grade is not formulated for direct potable-water contact under NSF/ANSI/CAN 61 unless a specific certification letter is issued.

Application records from power-supply and networking-equipment manufacturing indicate that 3100F is used in adaptor housings, router bases, network-switch faceplates, and internal brackets with nominal wall thickness between 1.2 mm and 1.8 mm. For these parts, the material’s electrical performance is relevant: comparative tracking index is reported as 600 V under IEC 60112:2020, dielectric strength at 2.0 mm thickness is 26 kV/mm under IEC 60243-1:2013, and surface resistivity after 48 h at 23 °C/50 % RH is approximately 1 × 10¹⁴ Ω under IEC 62631-3-2:2015. Glow-wire flammability index is listed as 960 °C at 1.5 mm under IEC 60695-2-12:2021, with glow-wire ignition temperature of 850 °C at the same thickness under IEC 60695-2-13:2021. For a 1.5 mm wall, the supplier’s recommended maximum flow length from a top gate is approximately 120–150 mm at 100 MPa injection pressure; published data for this specific configuration are limited. Gate vestige and knit-line strength reductions of 20–30 % relative to the base resin should be applied to snap-arm calculations. On a 1200 kN machine, a two-cavity adaptor housing of 85 g shot weight typically cycles in 35–42 s; the cooling of the sprue and gate area is the limiting step. Weld-line position should be moved away from snap-arm roots by sequential valve gating; if a knit line is unavoidable, the design should derate the snap-arm allowable strain by 25 %. Hot-runner tip temperature should not exceed 260 °C to prevent thermal discolouration. Parts requiring direct sunlight exposure are outside the recommended service envelope because published UV ageing data for this flame-retardant formulation are limited; painting or a co-extruded UV cap layer is required for outdoor use.
Under this substitution, the flame-retardant 3100F grade shows a 10–20 % reduction in Charpy notched impact strength at 23 °C, a 5–8 °C lower heat deflection temperature under 1.82 MPa, and an increase in density of 0.02–0.04 g/cm³ relative to non-flame-retardant PC/ABS of similar melt viscosity. The trade-off is the ability to meet UL 94 V-0 at 1.5 mm without a halogenated flame-retardant declaration, which standard unfilled PC/ABS does not achieve at the same wall. Compared with a 10 % glass-fibre flame-retardant PC/ABS, 3100F has lower flexural modulus—2,350 MPa versus approximately 3,800 MPa for the filled grade—and lower density, reducing part mass by roughly 6–8 %; it also produces less tool wear and lower surface roughness in production runs exceeding 100,000 shots. Against brominated flame-retardant PC/ABS grades, 3100F eliminates antimony trioxide and polybrominated flame retardants, but may require higher additive loading to achieve V-0 at 0.8 mm; this can produce a slightly lower tensile modulus and greater moisture uptake. Equilibrium moisture uptake at 23 °C/50 % RH is approximately 0.20–0.25 wt%, compared with 0.15 wt% for general-purpose PC/ABS, so drying becomes a stricter process boundary. Compared with the supplier’s unfilled PC/ABS 3100 grade, 3100F exhibits a lower spiral-flow length at 230 °C melt temperature but equivalent flow at 260 °C; thin-wall processing should therefore shift toward the upper melt-temperature limit. The use of a 0.5 % silicone-based masterbatch can reduce friction and scratch visibility, but this addition must be revalidated for UL 94 V-0 because silicone migrates to the surface and can alter ignition behaviour. Compared with PC/ASA flame-retardant grades, 3100F offers better notched impact retention at low temperature but lower UV resistance; indoor electronic enclosures are the primary application boundary unless exterior coatings are applied.
