Dongguan Qiantai ABS W0081 is an injection-moulding grade of acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene terpolymer supplied as cylindrical pellets. The alphanumeric designation W0081 is an internal manufacturer code and does not by itself define rubber content, melt flow, or additive package under ISO 2580-1:2014. Independent published data for this specific configuration is limited. Lot-specific values must therefore be obtained from the certificate of analysis and the manufacturer’s technical datasheet. The data below classifies the material within general-purpose ABS injection-moulding boundaries and identifies the standards used for verification.
The product is intended for reciprocating-screw injection moulding of technical parts. Comparisons with other products should be made using the same test standard, specimen geometry, and conditioning state. The W0081 designation is not a recognised flame-retardant, high-heat, or electroplating grade descriptor; those properties require explicit manufacturer certification.
The specification block for this material should include at minimum:
Preliminary drying is required. A desiccant dryer with a dew point of -20 °C or lower is used, and the material is dried at 80 °C for 2 h to 4 h in natural grades. Black or heavily pigmented lots may require 4 h to 6 h. Residual moisture should be below 0.05% and is verified by ISO 15512:2019 or an equivalent weight-loss method. At ambient relative humidity above 60%, dried pellets must be conveyed under dry air to the machine throat to avoid moisture regain.
Melt temperature is measured at the nozzle and maintained between 220 °C and 250 °C. Barrel profile settings usually start at 180 °C to 210 °C in the rear zone, 210 °C to 240 °C in centre zones, and 220 °C to 250 °C at the nozzle. Mould temperature is controlled from 40 °C to 80 °C. Higher mould temperature improves knit-line strength and surface gloss but increases cycle time. Residence time should not exceed 5 min at melt temperature; melt temperatures above 260 °C may degrade the butadiene phase and produce yellowing and impact loss.
General-purpose screws with L/D ratios of 20:1 to 24:1 and compression ratios of 2.0:1 to 2.5:1 are standard. Screw rotation speed is typically 40 rpm to 80 rpm on medium-sized machines. Back pressure from 0.3 MPa to 0.7 MPa is used to homogenise the melt without excessive shear heating. A non-return valve must be clean and free of degraded material; stagnation behind the valve can produce intermittent splay and black specks.
Mechanical properties are compared on dry-as-moulded specimens conditioned at 23 °C and 50% relative humidity according to ISO 291:2008. Tensile yield stress is measured under ISO 527-2:2012 at 50 mm/min; flexural modulus under ISO 178:2019; notched Charpy impact under ISO 179-1:2020. Typical ABS injection-moulding grades span tensile yield stress of 35 MPa to 50 MPa, flexural modulus of 1800 MPa to 2600 MPa, and notched Charpy impact of 10 kJ/m² to 30 kJ/m² at 23 °C. These are class-level ranges, not lot-specific values for W0081.

Electrical properties are relevant for enclosures. Unfilled ABS typically has volume resistivity in the range 10^15 Ω·cm and surface resistivity above 10^14 Ω measured by IEC 62631-3-1. Dielectric strength is usually 15 kV/mm to 25 kV/mm by IEC 60243-1. These values change with moisture and temperature; W0081 should not be specified for high-voltage insulation without the manufacturer’s electrical test report.
Splay is controlled by moisture below 0.05% and by eliminating dead spots. Gas burns occur when vents are insufficient. For ABS, vent depths of 0.02 mm to 0.04 mm, widths of 3 mm to 6 mm, and land lengths below 1.5 mm are used at last-point-of-fill locations. Weld lines form where melt fronts meet around cores or multi-gates. Their strength is reduced because the rubber phase does not fully knit; higher melt and mould temperatures within the processing window improve weld-line performance but may extend cycle time.
Gate freezing controls packing. Gates that freeze too early produce sink marks and voids. For wall sections of 2 mm to 3 mm, a gate diameter of 0.8 mm to 1.5 mm and land length of 0.5 mm to 1.0 mm are typical. Hot-runner systems should maintain melt temperature within ±5 °C across nozzles. Mould shrinkage for ABS injection grades is usually 0.4% to 0.7% in flow direction; shrinkage anisotropy is lower than glass-fibre reinforced grades. Dimensional approval must be performed on production cavities or a standard plaque, not solely on small tensile bars.
Thin-wall parts below 1.0 mm may require a higher-flow ABS grade. The exact spiral-flow length of W0081 should be obtained from the manufacturer or from mould-filling simulation calibrated with lot-specific melt viscosity measured by ISO 11443:2021 capillary rheometry.
Injection-grade ABS is generally formulated for higher melt mass-flow rate and lower elastic melt strength than extrusion-grade ABS. The higher flow is detected by ISO 1133-1:2022 melt mass-flow rate and capillary rheometry as lower extrudate swell. Extrusion grades require lower melt flow and higher molecular weight to maintain sheet, pipe, or parison shape; using them in thin-wall injection moulding can cause short shots and high injection pressure. Published data for this specific configuration is limited, so direct substitution must be supported by comparative spiral-flow or pressure-drop studies.
High-heat ABS grades use alpha-methylstyrene or maleimide-modified matrices to raise Vicat softening and heat deflection temperature by 10 °C to 25 °C relative to standard grades under ISO 306:2022/B50 and ISO 75-2:2020/A. W0081 should not be substituted into applications requiring continuous service above 90 °C unless the manufacturer’s datasheet confirms a high-heat classification.
Compared with ABS/PC blends, standard ABS grades provide lower notched impact at sub-zero temperatures and lower notched Charpy or Izod performance. They may also show greater notch sensitivity and lower heat deflection under 1.80 MPa. ABS/PC blends generally require melt temperatures above 260 °C and are more demanding in drying. If W0081 is selected for an enclosure, the component must be evaluated under the relevant drop-impact or notched-impact protocol rather than assuming ABS/PC-like behaviour.
Use is inferred from class-level rigidity and impact: electronic equipment enclosures, appliance housings, consumer durables, and interior automotive trim. Wall thickness is preferably 1.5 mm to 4.0 mm. Each application carries its own approval. Electric enclosures may require UL 94 certification; unfilled ABS is commonly classified as HB unless flame-retardant additives are present. The UL 94 Yellow Card must list the exact W0081 designation; generic ABS flammability data do not transfer.
Appearance approval is performed under ISO 2813:2014 gloss measurements or an OEM surface standard. Paint adhesion, electroplating adhesion, and laser marking are surface-process sensitive and must be validated on the exact pigment lot. W0081 is not considered an electroplating grade unless explicitly declared by the manufacturer.
Regulatory compliance for RoHS 2011/65/EU and REACH Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 is documented through material declarations. W0081 is not intrinsically food-contact approved under EU 10/2011 or FDA 21 CFR 177.1020. Continuous contact with ketones, esters, aromatic hydrocarbons, and chlorinated solvents should be excluded because these substances can induce environmental stress cracking and swelling.

Extended processing boundaries include maximum barrel residence time below 5 min, melt temperature not exceeding 260 °C, and drying temperature not exceeding 90 °C for extended periods. The material should not be combined with incompatible flame-retardant or amine-based additive packages unless the manufacturer confirms melt stability. Lot-to-lot variation should be tracked using ISO 1133-1:2022 and ISO 179-1:2020 because these two measurements are sensitive to molecular weight and rubber morphology changes that affect both processability and impact performance.
