Pre-drying of ABS08 to ≤0.05 wt% moisture is the first critical control in injection molding of washing machine control panels and vacuum cleaner housing shells. The base resin is formulated at 100 phr with 2.0–4.0 phr color masterbatch and 0.2–0.5 phr internal lubricant; the color masterbatch is typically predried at 80–85 °C for 2 h when packaging has been exposed to ambient relative humidity above 60%. Downstream conversion uses a reciprocating-screw injection molding machine with a general-purpose screw having compression ratio 2.5:1–3.0:1 and L/D 20:1–25:1, or a pre-compounding twin-screw extruder at L/D 22:1–25:1 followed by repelleting. Melt temperature is held at 220–250 °C, mold surface temperature at 40–70 °C, injection pressure at 70–120 MPa, holding pressure at 40–70 MPa, and back pressure at 0.5–2.0 MPa to maintain gravimetric feeding stability. Compliance for the terminal appliance housings includes IEC 60335-1:2020 Clause 30 glow-wire testing at 750 °C for unattended appliance parts, and UL 94 HB is commonly accepted for non-current-carrying enclosures. Since published data for glow-wire ignition temperature on this exact ABS08 lot is limited, pre-production validation at the final wall thickness, typically 2.0–2.5 mm, is required before tool release. Melt volume-flow rate is monitored under ISO 1133-1:2022 at 220 °C / 10 kg; a drift greater than ±10% relative to the approved reference lot can shift short-shot pressure and gloss scatter in multicavity tools. The terminal product types are front control panels, console frames, and snap-fit housing shells.

For data communication and consumer electronic enclosures, the base resin is compounded with a brominated epoxy or brominated polycarbonate oligomer flame retardant and antimony trioxide at a 3:1 molar Sb2O3-to-halogen ratio. The formulation addition ratio is 100 phr ABS08, 15–19 phr brominated epoxy, 3–5 phr antimony trioxide, and 0.1–0.3 phr antioxidant; typical total flame-retardant package loading is therefore 18–24 wt% of the compound. The downstream production process is direct injection molding on a reciprocating-screw machine sized for 3–5 t/in² projected area. Melt temperature is limited to 220–245 °C, mold temperature to 40–70 °C, and screw speed should not exceed 80 rpm for a 35 mm diameter screw because higher shear can push melt temperature above the 250 °C degradation threshold for the butadiene phase. At that threshold, thermal liberation of bromine species and polybutadiene chain scission raise smoke opacity and cause surface color shift. Industry compliance includes IEC 62368-1:2023 safety requirements for ICT equipment, UL 94 V-0 vertical burn testing with total afterflame time ≤50 s and no flaming drips, and RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU Annex II restrictions for lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, PBB, and PBDE. Terminal finished product types are router bottom shells, set-top box frames, and optical network unit housings. The operational boundary is that flame-retarded ABS08 compounds should not be mixed with polycarbonate regrind above 30 wt% because transesterification and molecular weight shift can occur; published data for this exact grade in PC/ABS blends is limited.
Because lower B-pillar trim and rear door panel insert frames manufactured from ABS08 are filmed or grained interior surfaces, volatile organic compound and fogging condensate control is as critical as impact performance. The formulation addition ratio is 100 phr base resin, 1.5–3.0 phr low-migration inorganic pigment masterbatch, and 0.2–0.5 phr internal lubricant; no zinc- or barium-based heat stabilizer is introduced because they can elevate fogging residues in OEM condensation tests. The downstream production process is injection molding with sequenced valve gates and grained tool surfaces; melt temperature is set at 220–240 °C, mold surface temperature at 50–70 °C, and gas counter pressure at 0.5–1.0 MPa where high gloss must be suppressed. Holding pressure is profiled from 40 MPa to 25 MPa over 3–5 s to reduce sink marks at ribs and boss interfaces. Automotive interior compliance is anchored to FMVSS 302 / ISO 3795 horizontal burning rate ≤100 mm/min, REACH Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 Annex XVII PAH limits, and OEM-specific heat aging at 90 °C × 500 h with ΔE color shift ≤3; fogging is measured by ISO 6452 and odor by VDA 270. Terminal product types are lower B-pillar covers, rear parcel shelf side trims, and rear door panel insert frames. The operational boundary is that unmodified ABS08 is not intended for UV exposure above 600 kJ/m² xenon arc unless an additional UV stabilizer package is compounded in. Published data for ABS08-specific fogging condensate at 2.5 mm grained surface is limited; OEM pre-validation is required.
When toy bricks and model kits are converted from ABS08, element migration limits under EN 71-3:2019+A1:2021 and heavy metal limits under ASTM F963-23 govern pigment selection. The formulation addition ratio is 100 phr resin, 1.0–2.5 phr heavy-metal-free color masterbatch, and 0.05–0.15 phr processing antioxidant; zinc, tin, and barium-bearing heat stabilizers are excluded as a conformance risk. The downstream production process is high-cavitation injection molding with hot runner valve pin sequencing, melt temperature 215–235 °C, mold temperature 35–60 °C, and clamping force 4–6 t/in² projected area. Cycle time for 2.0–3.0 mm wall thickness is typically 15–25 s, with injection speed profiling to prevent jetting and surface splay. Holding pressure is maintained at 40–60 MPa, and back pressure at 0.5–1.0 MPa is used to prevent pigment streaking in translucent block formulations. Terminal product types are interlocking blocks, snap-fit model components, and toy vehicle body shells. The operational boundary is that regrind content should not exceed 25 wt% in toy applications because repeated heat history increases extractable oligomers and reduces notched impact strength. Compliance is further supported by REACH Annex XVII phthalate restrictions and the absence of substances of very high concern on the Candidate List. Published data for ABS08-specific extractables under EN 71-3 is limited, so each pigment masterbatch lot must be revalidated at final part thickness.
Sheet extrusion of ABS08 for thermoformed luggage shells and refrigerator door liners operates at lower melt temperatures than injection molding because residence time in the flat die accelerates thermal decomposition of the polybutadiene phase. The formulation addition ratio for monolayer sheet is 100 phr base resin plus 0.1–0.3 phr process stabilizer and 2.0–4.0 phr color/UV masterbatch; for coextruded sheet with virgin cap layer and regrind core, the regrind content is held below 35 wt% in the core layer to maintain minimum elongation at break. The production line typically includes a vented single-screw extruder with L/D 30:1–36:1, a screen changer with 100–150 µm mesh packs, a flexible lip flat die, and a three-roll polishing stack. Melt temperature is controlled at 210–240 °C, die temperature at 230–245 °C, roll stack temperature at 70–95 °C, and sheet thickness from 1.5–4.0 mm. Following extrusion, thermoforming uses sheet surface reheat at 160–200 °C; mold temperature is maintained at 70–85 °C to avoid surface chill marks. Compliance includes REACH Annex XVII PAH limits for luggage shell materials, and optical and mechanical acceptance is assessed by ISO 527-2 tensile yield strength and ISO 179-1 Charpy impact after forming. Terminal product types are hard-shell luggage shells, refrigerator door liners, and appliance panel trim. The operational boundary is that melt temperature above 250 °C for more than 8 min residence time causes yellowing and pitting from butadiene oxidation; therefore screw speed and head pressure must be limited. Published data for ABS08-specific thermal stability at 260 °C is limited.
On fast-cycling multicavity tools producing printer paper trays and copier control panel bezels, ABS08 is substituted for HIPS where higher notched impact strength and higher dimensional feature resolution are required. The formulation addition ratio is 100 phr base resin, 1.0–3.0 phr carbon black or mineral-filled masterbatch, 0.1–0.4 phr internal release agent, and 0.05–0.2 phr antioxidant. The downstream production process uses a two-stage injection speed profile with a short initial fill speed to prevent gas traps at rib and boss intersections; melt temperature is set at 220–240 °C, mold temperature at 30–55 °C to control gloss, holding pressure at 35–60 MPa, and clamp force at 2.5–4.5 t/in² projected area. Industry compliance for the terminal products includes UL 94 HB for external office equipment enclosures, IEC 62368-1:2023 for ICT safety, and RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU Annex II substance restrictions. Terminal finished product types are printer input trays, copier control panel bezels, and document glass support frames. The design boundary is that weld-line strength retention in snap-fit tabs must be validated at the specified gate location because published data for this exact grade is limited; continuous service temperature is restricted to 70 °C for areas adjacent to fuser module exhaust. Snap-fit tab strain at break should not be specified above 15% without material-specific ISO 527-2 validation at the weld line.

Dongguan Jingyuan Plastic ABS ABS08 is listed by the supplier as an acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) terpolymer supplied for general-purpose injection moulding and extrusion. The commercial designation ABS08 does not by itself convey a grade-specific performance envelope; no formal manufacturer datasheet was available during preparation of this document, and therefore numerical values that are not explicitly referenced to a published standard or a class-level ABS data set should not be interpreted as ABS08-certified properties. Receipt inspection should be structured around ISO 2580-1:2004 or ASTM D4673-16 material classification principles, with a lot-specific certificate of analysis retained from Dongguan Jingyuan Plastic. The grade is best viewed as an unfilled, opaque ABS feedstock whose processability and cost position differ from PC/ABS, filled polypropylene, and high-heat ABS grades primarily through melt viscosity, heat distortion, and chemical resistance.
For an unfilled ABS material such as ABS08, the minimum technical specification set should include melt mass-flow rate (MFR) or melt volume-flow rate (MVR), density, tensile yield stress, tensile modulus, flexural modulus, notched Izod impact at 23 °C and at -30 °C, Vicat softening temperature, and mould shrinkage. The MFR determination should be conducted according to ISO 1133-1:2022 at 220 °C with a 10.0 kg load for general-purpose ABS grades; MVR may be reported under ISO 1133-2:2011 using the same condition. Density should be measured by ISO 1183-1:2019 Method A. Tensile properties should be tested at 50 mm/min using ISO 527-2:2012 Type 1A specimens or ASTM D638-14 Type I specimens. The notched Izod impact test should follow ISO 180:2019 on 80 mm × 10 mm × 4 mm edgewise specimens; for ASTM-based laboratories, ASTM D256-10(2018) Method A is the corresponding method. Vicat softening temperature should be reported as Method B50 under ISO 306:2022 with a 50 N load and 50 °C/h heating rate, or as ASTM D1525-17e1. Because the ABS08-specific values were not available in a public datasheet, receipt release should compare each lot against the supplier’s agreed control limits rather than a generic publication.

When ambient relative humidity exceeds 60 %, incoming bags or octabins should be sampled for moisture; the accepted threshold for injection-moulding ABS is generally below 0.05 %, but the lot-specific requirement should be confirmed by the supplier. Storage in a desiccant-dry-air silo or a hopper with a dew point of -20 °C or lower is advisable for operations running mixed ABS lots.
Unfilled ABS feedstocks in the ABS08 class are normally processed at a melt-temperature range of 210 °C to 250 °C, with nozzle settings of 200 °C to 230 °C and mould temperatures of 40 °C to 80 °C. These are standard processing bands for general-purpose ABS, not ABS08-specific recommendations. The barrel profile should be set so that the compression zone reaches the target melt temperature without exceeding 250 °C in the metering zone; extended residence time above 230 °C causes thermal-oxidative degradation of the polybutadiene phase, producing yellowing, loss of notched Izod impact, and the release of benzaldehyde-like odour in the moulding area. Total residence time in the barrel should be kept below 5 min at melt temperatures above 230 °C, and below 2 min when hot-runner sections exceed 250 °C.
Drying before processing is mandatory. A desiccant dryer with a dew point of -20 °C to -40 °C should supply air at 80 °C for 2 h to 4 h for sealed virgin material that has been stored indoors. At humidity above 60 %, the drying time should be increased to 4 h to 6 h because ABS pellets absorb moisture rapidly on the surface and within the polybutadiene-rich rubber phase. A hopper-mounted infrared moisture analyser or a Karl Fischer bench measurement is preferable to weight-loss methods for detecting 0.02 % to 0.05 % moisture excursions.
The injection screw is typically a general-purpose single-flight design with an L/D ratio of 20:1 to 25:1 and a compression ratio of 2.5:1 to 3.5:1. The shot should use between 30 % and 80 % of barrel capacity to avoid excessive residence time and feed-related pressure variation. Gate freeze time is affected by mould temperature and wall thickness; for unfilled ABS parts thicker than 2.5 mm, gate diameter should be at least 0.75 times the wall thickness, and a packing pressure of 50 % to 70 % of the injection pressure is common. Cavity pressure sensors are recommended to maintain process capability because solid-state pressure transducers can identify short-shot or flash drift caused by lot-to-lot viscosity variation.
For thin-wall parts below 1.2 mm nominal wall thickness, the lower melt temperature is limited by filling pressure and the upper limit by degradation; a practical process window can narrow to 15 °C or less when the flow length-to-thickness ratio exceeds 150:1. Injection velocity should be profiled to keep flow-front shear rate below the level that causes jetting and surface blush; a velocity linearisation test using short shots at 60 % to 90 % of injection speed can establish a fill-time window without burning material.
In production cells where Dongguan Jingyuan Plastic ABS ABS08 is transferred from a central dryer to multiple moulding machines, pellet fracture and fines generation are influenced by conveying-air velocity, bend radius, and feed-tube length. Blow velocity above 20 m/s increases dust formation, which in turn alters melt density and can generate silver streaking at the gate. A magnetic grate and a fine-separation screen ahead of the machine throat are therefore inserted on lines processing ABS08. If regrind is introduced into the central feed, the regrind-to-virgin ratio should be held constant by loss-in-weight feeders rather than by volumetric mixing, because differences in bulk density between virgin pellets and fluff destabilise the melt cushion.
Substituting an unfilled ABS grade such as ABS08 into an enclosure designed for PC/ABS requires a heat distortion and impact comparison. Class-level data for unfilled ABS typically show Vicat B50 values between 95 °C and 105 °C under ISO 306:2022 Method B50, while PC/ABS blends usually exceed 110 °C; the difference is attributable to the polycarbonate phase. Load-bearing parts exposed to a service temperature above 70 °C should therefore be evaluated with thermomechanical analysis rather than by simple material substitution. The notched Izod impact of unfilled ABS at -30 °C is generally lower than that of PC/ABS, so thin-wall bosses and snap-fits designed for PC/ABS ductility may require radii adjustment or a switch to a higher-impact ABS grade if ABS08 cannot meet the impact requirement.
Compared with mineral-filled polypropylene, unfilled ABS usually offers higher surface hardness, tighter mould shrinkage, lower coefficient of linear thermal expansion, and greater resistance to creep at room temperature. Mould shrinkage for unfilled ABS is commonly reported in the range of 0.4 % to 0.7 % according to ASTM D955-08, while mineral-filled polypropylene may shrink below 0.5 % but with higher anisotropy depending on glass or talc orientation. Linear thermal expansion should be compared by ISO 11359-2:2021; unfilled ABS class values are generally lower than mineral-filled PP across -40 °C to 80 °C. For snap-fit arms in appliance housings, the higher modulus of ABS can be an advantage, but the lower chemical resistance must be checked when the housing is exposed to cleaning agents, lubricants, or essential-oil diffusers. The applicable standard for comparing tensile modulus is ISO 527-2:2012 with conditioned specimens at 23 °C and 50 % RH.
Electrical-enclosure applications should be verified according to the final wall thickness and colourant formulation. ABS08 itself may carry no more than a class-level flame classification; for a 1.5 mm or 3.0 mm moulded plaque, unfilled ABS is often rated UL 94 HB, but flame rating can shift with impact modifiers, regrind, and certain pigment carriers. If the part is intended for information-technology equipment, the enclosure must also satisfy the fire-enclosure and mechanical-enclosure requirements of IEC 62368-1:2018, and a change from PC/ABS to ABS often requires re-test of the weakest wall section.
Chemical resistance is a limitation. Continuous contact with methyl ethyl ketone, toluene, xylene, or chlorinated solvents will soften and stress-crack unfilled ABS. Household cleaning agents containing esters or ketones should be tested by ISO 175:2010. For outdoor use, UV exposure degrades the butadiene phase; if UV-stabilised ABS08 is not available, painting, vacuum metallisation, or a carbon-black masterbatch addition at 0.2 wt% to 0.5 wt% may slow surface chalking, but outdoor UV resistance must be quantified with ISO 4892-2:2013 exposure and not assumed from the base resin.
Compared with high-gloss ABS grades, ABS08 may not include a gloss-enhancing rubber-morphology package or may have a wider specification for chromaticity. Gloss measurements should follow ASTM D523-14 at 60° geometry if appearance is critical. The difference between ABS08 and high-heat ABS grades is generally expressed through Vicat B50 and HDT/A; without a supplier datasheet, the selecting engineer should request a side-by-side comparison of the incumbent grade and ABS08 using ISO 306:2022 and ISO 75-2:2013 at 1.8 MPa.
Regrind incorporation in ABS08 should be treated as a material change. The polybutadiene phase undergoes thermo-oxidative shear history during each pass; after two or three moulding cycles, the MFR may increase because of chain scission while the notched Izod impact may decrease. A controlled regrind study should measure ISO 1133-1:2022 MFR at 220 °C, 10.0 kg, and ISO 180:2019 notched Izod at 23 °C on blends of 0 %, 10 %, 20 %, and 30 % regrind. If the 20 % regrind blend shows more than 10 % loss of impact relative to virgin ABS08, the regrind ratio should be capped below that level. Published data for this specific configuration is limited; therefore, regrind limits must be established internally on the actual moulding machine and part.
Batch-to-batch flow variation is managed by tracking the supplier certificate of analysis and by monitoring injection moulder cushion position, peak hydraulic pressure, and fill time. If MFR shifts by more than 15 % from the established lot average, the process may still run, but packing time and gate size should be re-examined because a higher-flow lot can produce flash and a lower-flow lot can produce short shots. For centralised purchasing, a melt-flow specification of ±10 % around the supplier-agreed target is common for general-purpose ABS, but the ABS08 target must be obtained from Dongguan Jingyuan Plastic.
Dongguan Jingyuan Plastic ABS ABS08 should be covered by a Safety Data Sheet and a product declaration that identifies the homopolymer and additive composition sufficiently for regulatory classification. For electrical and electronic equipment sold in the European Union, the moulded article must meet the restriction levels of Directive 2011/65/EU as amended by (EU) 2015/863; a supplier declaration of RoHS conformity should reference test methods such as IEC 62321-5:2013 for cadmium and lead, IEC 62321-4:2013 for mercury, and IEC 62321-7-1:2015 for hexavalent chromium. Under REACH, the supplier must provide an SVHC declaration under Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 Article 33 if any candidate-list substance exceeds 0.1 wt% in the supplied article or preparation. Food-contact use is not automatic for an ABS resin; if ABS08 is proposed for kitchen appliance parts or food-tray applications, the supplier must confirm formulation compliance with FDA 21 CFR 181.32 or the relevant national migration standard, and the part must be tested under the intended food simulant and time-temperature condition. The base resin alone is not sufficient evidence of food-contact compliance.
The absence of a public ABS08 datasheet means that regulatory statements should be obtained as lot-specific declarations rather than transferred from another ABS grade. Certificates of analysis, RoHS test reports, REACH SVHC statements, and ISO 9001:2015 quality-system certificates should be archived by the receiving plant. When ABS08 is used in applications requiring UL recognition, the supplier should provide a UL yellow-card equivalent or a provisional UL statement; without a yellow card for the specific grade, the moulded part may require independent flammability testing.
