Within automotive interior trim injection moulding, Dongguan Jiajing ABS XL8765 is dried in a closed-loop desiccant dryer before entering the barrel. The air dew point is held at -30 °C or lower, the hopper inlet temperature is set at 80–85 °C, and residence is maintained for 2–4 h. Target residual moisture is <0.1% by Karl Fischer sampling under ISO 15512:2019. When ambient relative humidity exceeds 60% in southern China compounding shops, a single-bed hopper dryer without desiccant regeneration cannot reliably reach this moisture level. Melt temperature at the nozzle is set between 230 °C and 250 °C. Barrel profile is ramped from 200 °C in the feed zone to 230 °C at the metering zone. Hot runner manifold is held at 240 °C. Holding pressure is set at 60–80 MPa, with back pressure at 0.5–1.0 MPa and screw recovery between 40 rpm and 80 rpm. Injection velocity is profiled to avoid gas burning at the gate. The maximum short-residence temperature observed in production is 260 °C; above this limit the polybutadiene phase degrades, producing brown streaks and a sharp styrenic odour at the part gate.
For interior trim, the moulded part is textured with grain depths from 25 µm to 40 µm. Gloss is measured at 60° geometry under ASTM D523; low-gloss appearance depends on cavity draft angle, mould temperature from 50 °C to 70 °C, and absence of jetting. Sequential valve gating is required when flow length exceeds 300 mm, otherwise weld lines become visible on knee bolsters and pillar covers. The resin should not be mixed with polyamide or polycarbonate regrind. Carbon black masterbatch is added at 1.5–2.5 wt% for black interior parts. The let-down ratio must be verified on the dosing unit; a volumetric disc feeder can induce batch-to-batch colour shift if the masterbatch bulk density differs from ABS pellets. Tensile modulus of the final part is not used as a sole acceptance criterion. ISO 527-2:2012 on dry and moisture-conditioned specimens is required because moisture uptake shifts stiffness and yield stress.
Equipment selection for interior trim moulding should start with clamp force calculated from projected area and a cavity pressure of 30–40 MPa. For a 0.15 m² projected area door panel insert, the minimum clamp force is approximately 4500–6000 kN. A general-purpose screw with L/D 20:1–24:1 and a check ring free of wear is used because back-flow variation changes holding-pressure consistency. Hot runner valve pins are independently controlled, with piston strokes from 2–3 mm. Mould cooling circuits are sized to maintain a temperature differential of no more than 5 °C across the cavity face. When the cooling differential exceeds this limit, differential shrinkage creates dimensional bow in long door trim parts.
Compliance is anchored to OEM interior material specifications rather than a single global standard. Volatile organic compounds and fogging are tested per VDA 278:2020; reflectance-based fogging is measured under DIN 75201-B, with threshold values set by the automotive customer, commonly above 70% reflectance after 100 h at 100 °C. Xenon arc UV exposure is conducted per SAE J2412 for interior parts that receive direct sunlight through side glass. The grade is not recommended for unpainted upper instrument panel shells requiring long-term UV stability without a coextruded cap layer or paint. Terminal parts include door panel inserts, lower instrument panel trim, glovebox housings, B-pillar lower covers, and seat side shields. Operational boundary: any side-feed hot runner system must be purged at shutdown because stagnant melt in the manifold dead leg degrades within several minutes above 250 °C. Published data for the specific XL8765 lot is limited; the drying parameters above are derived from ISO 2580-1:2004 ABS classification and must be confirmed against the Dongguan Jiajing certificate of analysis.
For small household appliance housings, the main compliance conflict is between IEC 60335-1:2020 and the glow-wire test under IEC 60695-2-11:2021. Neat ABS grades are usually assigned UL 94 HB, which is a horizontal burn classification and does not guarantee compliance with a 750 °C glow-wire ignition index. When a housing part is subjected to 750 °C glow wire on a part of final wall thickness, unprotected ABS can ignite or show flame persistence beyond 2 s. Therefore Dongguan Jiajing ABS XL8765 in neat form is limited to appliance zones separated from uninsulated live parts by creepage distances and barriers defined in the appliance standard. If the OEM requires GWIT 775 °C or GWFI 850 °C, a flame-retardant masterbatch or an FR ABS compound must be qualified. Published data for the specific flame-retardant modification of XL8765 is limited; the additive supplier and Dongguan Jiajing must be consulted for a final wall-thickness UL 94 classification. FR concentrate addition is not a universal ratio; final compounds are recertified at thicknesses of 1.5 mm, 2.0 mm, or 2.5 mm, and the compound may lose 20–35% of notched Izod impact under ISO 180:2023 when compared with the neat resin.
Moulding parameters for appliance housings use wall sections of 2.0–2.5 mm; lower wall thickness causes hesitation in long flow paths and increases the risk of visible knit lines at louver features. Melt temperature is kept at 230–250 °C, mould temperature at 50–70 °C, and pack phase pressure at 60–80 MPa for 2–3 s/mm of nominal wall. Rib-to-wall ratio is limited to 0.5–0.6; thicker ribs cause sink marks on visible surfaces. Boss outer diameter is held at 2× the nominal screw diameter, and the core pin is gusseted with four radial ribs to reduce cracking during self-tapping screw insertion. Gate diameter is set at 1.0–1.5 mm for a 2.5 mm nominal wall. Direct edge gates are preferred over tunnel gates when glass fibre is absent to reduce jetting. Burned ABS gel particles can appear in hot runner manifolds when the nozzle tip stays in contact with a cold sprue bushing; the tip temperature should be independently trimmed to 240–245 °C.
Terminal products include electric kettle base housings, vacuum cleaner motor covers, rice cooker control boxes, and air fryer top caps. The housing is frequently painted or metallized; mould-release silicone cannot be used because it transfers to the surface and reduces paint adhesion. Adhesion tests after painting are run under ISO 2409 cross-cut, with acceptance levels defined by the OEM. If no flame retardant is used, the appliance standard may still permit the material on the basis of constructional isolation, but the decision must be documented in the technical file. The material should not be exposed to strong mineral acids, ketone-based paint thinners, or aromatic hydrocarbons in service because stress-cracking can occur at moulded-in strain points.
Electronics enclosure shells moulded from Dongguan Jiajing ABS XL8765 are processed with a desiccant dryer at 80 °C for 3–4 h when the resin has been stored at ambient humidity. Moulded enclosures require dimensional verification after 24 h at 23 °C and 50% RH; post-mould shrinkage for ABS typically ranges from 0.4% to 0.7%, but the specific value for XL8765 must be taken from the supplier data. Cavity pressure at switchover is set at 40–60 MPa, and the screw cushion is maintained at 3–5 mm. For routers and set-top boxes, side vents and louver features are filled using fan gates; gas vents of 0.02–0.04 mm depth must be cut at the end of fill. Inadequate venting produces a diesel effect that burns the polybutadiene phase and creates black specks on the visible surface. Hot runner valve pins are selected when direct gating on a textured surface is not allowed.
Screw boss fracture is the primary failure mode in electronics enclosures. The boss outer diameter is set at 2× the nominal screw diameter, with wall thickness between 0.6× and 0.8× of the main wall. Boss height is limited to 2.5× the screw diameter unless three or more gussets are added. Torque-to-failure testing follows the OEM internal standard; a common acceptance is that a 2.5 mm self-tapping screw into a 5 mm boss must survive insertion torque before thread stripping load. ABS is notch sensitive, so sharp internal corners at boss roots are radiused to at least 0.5 mm. For snap-fit latches, the cantilever beam outer-fibre strain is kept below 1.5% during engagement; higher strain leads to stress whitening and eventual fracture.
Electromagnetic interference shielding is not provided by ABS XL8765. The surface resistivity of neat ABS is typically above 1012 Ω/sq, so the enclosure does not attenuate radiated emissions. Shielding is applied by electroless nickel-copper plating, conductive silver-coated copper paint, or internal aluminium foil liners. After plating or coating, shielding effectiveness is verified at frequencies from 30 MHz to 1000 MHz under the OEM acceptance procedure. Material compliance includes RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU, REACH Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006, and IEC 62368-1:2023 for audio/video and information technology equipment enclosures. Terminal products include router housings, set-top box covers, power strip shells, CCTV dome closures, and industrial control panel fronts. The material is not recommended for continuous operation above 85 °C or direct outdoor sun exposure without a UV-stabilised paint layer.

Sheet extrusion lines converting Dongguan Jiajing ABS XL8765 into vacuum-formable rollstock require a single-screw extruder with L/D 30:1–36:1, a barrier screw, and a vertical three-roll polishing stack. The feed throat is water-cooled at 30–50 °C to prevent premature sticking. Barrel temperatures are ramped from 180 °C in the feed section to 220 °C in the metering section, with melt temperature at the die between 220 °C and 240 °C. Die lip temperature is set at 230 °C to eliminate die lines. Sheet thickness from 2.0 mm to 4.0 mm is controlled with a beta gauge or caliper scanner, and the tolerance is held within ±0.05 mm. Edge trim regrind is reintroduced at up to 20 wt% with virgin pellets; regrind fractions above this level can lower melt strength and increase gel specks in the sheet.
Polishing roll temperatures are staged: the middle roll is held at 80–100 °C, the lower roll at 70–90 °C, and the upper roll at 60–80 °C. Line speed for 2–4 mm sheet is typically 3–8 m/min, but speed must be reduced for widths above 1.2 m because cooling capacity controls flatness. Thermoforming of the sheet is performed at surface temperatures of 140–180 °C. Draw depth is kept below a ratio of 1:1.5; deeper draws create corner thinning below 0.5 mm and reduce puncture impact. Male tooling with a 0.5–1.0 mm corner radius is used for luggage shells. Sheet qualifying tests include ISO 6603-1 puncture impact at 23 °C, ISO 178 flexural modulus, and ISO 527-2 tensile yield. Terminal products include hard-shell luggage skins, automotive load floor trays, machine guards, and cleanroom pass-through covers. The main operational boundary for sheet is the notch sensitivity of ABS. Cutouts in formed parts must be radiused; sharp corners propagate cracks during cold impact. Solvent bonding of ABS sheet is possible with methyl ethyl ketone or cyanoacrylate, but only under local exhaust ventilation. The resin is not recommended for glazing applications requiring polycarbonate-level impact, nor for food-contact sheet unless the specific grade and additives are certified for the intended food type.
If Dongguan Jiajing ABS XL8765 is evaluated for pipe and fitting extrusion, the screw should be a single-stage, low-compression design with a compression ratio of 2.5:1 and L/D 25:1–30:1. The feed throat is water-cooled at 40–50 °C. Barrel temperatures are set from 180 °C feed to 210 °C metering, with the adapter and spiral mandrel die at 210–230 °C. Melt temperature measured at the die must not exceed 230 °C. Head pressure is maintained between 10 MPa and 20 MPa before the screen changer; higher pressure usually indicates low die temperature or gel accumulation on the breaker plate. A continuous screen changer with 60/80/100 mesh pack is used for clean regrind, but a finer pack may generate excessive frictional heat. The polybutadiene rubber phase in ABS degrades rapidly in stagnant zones above 240 °C, producing black specks on the pipe inner wall. Vacuum calibration for pipe is run with the first calibration sleeve at 45–60 °C and vacuum at 0.03–0.06 MPa. The second and third chambers are held at 30–45 °C to prevent surface splay. Wall thickness is measured by ultrasonic gauge around the circumference; out-of-roundness is controlled by the sizing sleeve.
For soil and waste discharge, the pipe system should be qualified to ISO 7682:2003 for ABS pipes, and hydrostatic pressure tests follow ISO 1167-1:2006 at the service temperature class. Published data for XL8765 in pipe-grade applications is limited; the resin supplier should confirm long-term hydrostatic strength, impact at 0 °C, and weldability before a production trial. Fittings are injection moulded with the same pipe compound and are not solvent-cemented unless the system standard permits. Terminal products include drainage pipes, laboratory waste lines, cable conduits, and fitting bodies. The material is not appropriate for pressurized potable water lines or compressed gas pipelines. External above-ground pipe runs require UV stabilizer or carbon black; unprotected ABS pipes show surface chalking after extended sunlight exposure.
Medical device housing programmes using Dongguan Jiajing ABS XL8765 are run in a cleanroom injection moulding cell meeting ISO 14644-1:2015 Class 7 or Class 8. The material is delivered in sealed foil-lined bags; opened bags are dried at 80 °C for 3–4 h and transferred to the machine hopper through a closed conveying system. The injection moulding machine should be equipped with a corrosion-resistant barrel and screw because some medical-approved colour concentrates contain halogenated pigments. Melt temperature is held at 230–250 °C, and mould surface temperature is set at 50–70 °C. Mould release is restricted to medical-grade products; silicone sprays are prohibited. For snap-fit housings, the gap and overlap design tolerance stack is analysed after 24 h conditioning at 23 °C and 50% RH. Wall thickness variation is maintained within ±0.05 mm to prevent uneven shrinkage that throws off snap latch engagement.
Biocompatibility is not an inherent property of the ABS resin family. The actual XL8765 grade must be extracted according to ISO 10993-12:2021 and evaluated for cytotoxicity under ISO 10993-5:2009. The OEM cannot use a generic ABS certificate to justify skin or mucosal contact; stabilizers, mould releases, and colour masterbatch all participate in the extraction profile. The material is suitable only for limited-contact housings and cases; it must not be used for long-term implants, blood-contact components, or devices requiring repeated steam sterilisation above 121 °C. Chemical resistance to disinfectants is a known operational boundary: alcohol-based disinfectants and hydrogen peroxide can induce environmental stress cracking at high-strain gate areas and snap-fit corners. Stress-crack testing is performed under ISO 22088-1 or customer-specific regimes when the housing is cleaned daily in a clinical setting.
Terminal products include diagnostic device housings, nebulizer compressor covers, patient monitor bezels, and infusion pump shells. Regulatory responsibility remains with the device manufacturer; no raw material certificate removes the obligation to validate final sterilisation, cleaning, and biocompatibility parameters. For programmes requiring USP Class VI or FDA food-contact certification, the specific XL8765 additive package must be reviewed with Dongguan Jiajing and documented in the design history file.

Dongguan Jiajing ABS XL8765 is identified in supplier trade documentation as an acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene copolymer supplied by Dongguan Jiajing. The designation XL8765 is a supplier-specific grade identifier and is not a direct classification under ISO 1043-1:2011. The grade belongs to the styrenic terpolymer family in which acrylonitrile contributes chemical resistance and thermal stability, butadiene contributes impact energy absorption, and styrene contributes stiffness and melt processability. Publicly available third-party data for the XL8765 suffix are limited; therefore all property values cited in this technical introduction are framed against general ABS processing literature and are not a substitute for lot-specific certificates of analysis. Tool design, processing parameters, and regulatory declarations must be derived from the manufacturer’s current datasheet.
Technical datasheets for ABS grades typically report density under ISO 1183-1:2019, melt volume-flow rate under ISO 1133-1:2022, tensile yield stress and tensile modulus under ISO 527-2:2012, flexural modulus under ISO 178:2019, notched Izod impact under ISO 180/A, heat deflection temperature under ISO 75-2:2013, Vicat softening temperature under ISO 306:2022, and moulding shrinkage under ISO 294-4:2018. For XL8765, the reported values should be taken from the supplier’s current certificate; these test method designations determine whether the product is classified as an injection-moulding or extrusion grade. The Vicat softening temperature of general-purpose ABS is typically in the range of 95 °C to 110 °C for a 50 N load, while heat-resistant ABS grades may exceed 110 °C. If XL8765 is positioned as a heat-resistant grade, its datasheet should state the corresponding method, load, and heating rate.
ABS resins are hygroscopic. The material should be dried in a desiccant dryer with an air dew point no higher than -30 °C at 80 °C for 2 h to 4 h until residual moisture is below 0.1 % by weight. In production environments where ambient relative humidity exceeds 60 %, hopper residence time should not exceed 15 min unless the hopper is blanketed with dry air. Moisture above 0.1 % hydrolyzes nitrile groups and generates volatile degradation products; the resulting splay, silver streaks, and weld-line weakening are commonly observed on injection moulding machines with clamp forces of 500 kN to 5,000 kN producing housings of 1.5 mm to 3.0 mm wall thickness. Thermal damage is more probable above 250 °C because the butadiene phase undergoes oxidative crosslinking and discoloration. Thermogravimetric analysis according to ISO 11358-1:2022 can be used to establish the specific onset of mass loss for lot acceptance, but the exact onset temperature for XL8765 must be taken from the supplier’s certificate.
For extruder barrel settings, the general ABS processing envelope is 210 °C to 240 °C. A single-screw extruder with 28:1 to 32:1 L/D and a barrier screw with a Maddock mixing section may be profiled at 220 °C in the feed section, 230 °C in the compression section, 230 °C in the metering section, and 220 °C at the die. These values are not grade-specific for XL8765; they are typical for medium-flow ABS extrusion compounds and should be adjusted according to the supplier-reported melt volume-flow rate under ISO 1133-1:2022. If the grade has an MVR above 30 cm³/10 min, the metering zone may require a reduction of 5 °C to 10 °C to maintain melt pressure and reduce drool. Published data for this specific XL8765 configuration is limited, so pilot trials should be conducted before production.
For injection moulding of XL8765 into appliance panels, power-tool housings, or electrical boxes, the production-scale setup should begin with shot size between 30 % and 70 % of barrel capacity to limit residence time at temperature. The plastication unit should use a general-purpose or ABS-specific screw with compression ratio 2.0:1 to 2.5:1 and a non-return valve. Cavity pressure during packing is typically maintained at 30 MPa to 50 MPa; this corresponds to a clamping force requirement of approximately 0.5 t/cm² to 0.8 t/cm² of projected area. Mold temperature is typically controlled between 40 °C and 80 °C, with the upper half of the range used for thin-wall sections below 1.2 mm. If mold temperature falls below 30 °C, the polymer freezes before complete interdiffusion at the weld line, producing a visible knit-line notch and a measurable drop in notched impact strength under ISO 180/A. Injection speed should be profiled from 15 mm/s to 35 mm/s at the screw for medium-sized parts; excessive velocity above 50 mm/s may cause jetting and surface delamination. Packing time should be approximately 0.5 s/mm of nominal wall thickness. These parameters are starting points based on ABS processing literature and do not replace the supplier’s process recommendation for XL8765.
A comparison of performance families is required to position XL8765 against general-purpose, high-flow, high-impact, and flame-retardant ABS products. Table 1 lists typical literature ranges for the major ABS families; the XL8765 row is marked “supplier datasheet required” because no independent lot data are available in this review.

Table 1 values are typical ranges reported in ABS supplier literature and are not lot-specific values for Dongguan Jiajing ABS XL8765.
The XL8765 suffix may indicate a differentiated molecular architecture, impact-modifier package, lubricant loading, or melt-stabilizer chemistry relative to general-purpose grades. Extrusion-grade ABS generally has a lower melt volume-flow rate and higher melt strength than high-flow injection grades; this allows the melt to hold its shape during sheet, profile, or pipe haul-off. If XL8765 is positioned for extruded sheet or profile, the specification likely emphasizes melt strength and residual volatile content rather than spiral flow. In contrast, high-flow ABS intended for complex thin-wall electrical connectors sacrifices some impact resistance to achieve shorter cycle times; such products are often specified by spiral flow length under defined injection conditions rather than by MVR alone. Flame-retardant ABS differs from unmodified ABS by the presence of brominated or phosphorus-based additives; these additives increase density and can reduce the secondary processability window during regrind. Flame-retardant grades typically require a UL 94 V-0 yellow card at a specified thickness and have lower outdoor UV retention due to the additive system. Without the supplier’s specific yellow card, the UL 94 rating of XL8765 remains unverified.
Compared with polycarbonate/ABS blends, XL8765 as an ABS homopolymer cannot be assumed to provide the notched low-temperature impact or heat resistance of PC/ABS. PC/ABS grades typically have Vicat temperatures above 130 °C and often maintain ductile impact at -30 °C; unmodified ABS may become brittle below -10 °C depending on rubber content. This boundary matters in automotive interior parts exposed to cold climates. The supplier must state whether XL8765 incorporates a high-rubber design for low-temperature toughness or a heat-resistant modifier for HDT above 100 °C. Without that statement, substitution of XL8765 for PC/ABS in a crash-relevant or load-bearing housing is not supported by this review.
Sheet extrusion of XL8765 should be run on a single-screw extruder with 30:1 L/D, a barrier screw, and screen pack configuration of 20/40/60 mesh. Melt temperature at the die is usually held between 220 °C and 240 °C. The die lip opening is set 10 % to 20 % larger than the target sheet thickness to compensate for drawdown, and the roll gap is controlled to 0.5 mm to 1.0 mm for typical packaging or appliance-liner sheet. Chill roll temperatures are maintained at 75 °C to 85 °C; temperature variation across the roll face greater than ±3 °C creates differential shrinkage and causes post-trimming warpage. Air knife pressure of 0.2 bar assists sheet contact on the top roll. Melt-strength deficiencies produce edge sag and gauge variation; this failure mode is more common when the melt temperature exceeds 250 °C or when the extruder screw is worn beyond 0.3 mm radial clearance. For XL8765, the specific die head pressure and melt pump suction pressure should be taken from the supplier’s process sheet, because published data for this configuration is limited.
Thermoforming of XL8765 sheet requires a sheet surface temperature between 150 °C and 180 °C. Plug-assisted thermoforming uses an aluminum plug temperature of 120 °C and a plug speed of 0.3 m/s to avoid premature chilling. Mould temperature is set to 80 °C. Wall thickness distribution in formed parts is governed by the plug geometry and sheet sag control; with deep-draw ratios above 1.5:1, webbing and corner-thinning become the dominant defects. Pre-stretching the sheet with a heated plug before vacuum application reduces the gauge variation observed on production lines using double-station rotary machines with 600 mm × 900 mm platen dimensions. Grade-specific sag time and forming force should be confirmed by pilot tests for XL8765.
When the melt temperature falls below 210 °C, medium-flow ABS exhibits a sharp increase in viscosity. The result is short shots, gate freeze-off before packing, and surface jetting on parts with wall thickness below 2.0 mm. Weld lines generated at low melt temperature show limited molecular interdiffusion, reducing notched impact strength under ISO 180/A by 20 % to 40 % relative to well-moulded specimens; this reduction is particularly visible in four-cavity electronic housings where flow fronts meet at a central boss. At the opposite boundary, sustained melt temperature above 250 °C accelerates volatilization of residual monomer and oxidative degradation of the butadiene phase. Brown streaks, mold plate-out, and an acrid styrene odor become apparent on machines with hot-runner systems operating above 260 °C. For any XL8765 lot, the onset of discoloration should be checked by purging with a general-purpose ABS of known thermal stability before committing to production.
Mould temperature variation of ±5 °C across the cavity has been associated with differential shrinkage in flat housings larger than 300 mm in length. Shrinkage of ABS under ISO 294-4 is typically 0.4 % to 0.7 %; if the supplier’s datasheet for XL8765 reports a value outside this range, gate dimensions and packing pressure must be recalculated. In hot-runner tools, the runner tip should be held at the melt temperature, not above 260 °C, and gate vestige should be minimized because ABS degrades rapidly in dead spots. Two-shot moulding with thermoplastic elastomers requires validated interfacial adhesion; a minimum interface temperature of 120 °C is often needed for semi-crystalline TPEs, but the ABS surface may oxidize if held above 200 °C for extended periods. No generalized adhesion values are available for XL8765, so bonding must be tested under the intended production sequence.
Regulatory status for Dongguan Jiajing ABS XL8765 must be confirmed against the relevant application-specific texts. Unmodified ABS grades often satisfy the restriction limits in RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU Annex II for lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls, and polybrominated diphenyl ethers at the maximum concentration values, but the supplier must provide an analytical declaration. REACH compliance requires that substances on the Candidate List do not exceed 0.1 % by weight per article, and that Annex XVII restrictions relevant to specific monomers or additives are met. Food-contact or toy applications demand end-product migration testing under EU 10/2011 or EN 71-3; the resin supplier’s statement alone is insufficient because processing aids, colorants, and regrind affect the final extractables profile.
Avoid blending XL8765 with amine-based antioxidant packages or incompatible brominated flame retardants without stated supplier approval; such additions can cause acid-base interactions, plate-out, and accelerated discoloration. PVC and certain vinyl-based regrind streams are not compatible with ABS and cause phase separation and brittleness. If recycled ABS content is used, batch-to-batch variance in melt volume-flow rate and notched impact should be tracked under ISO 1133-1:2022 and ISO 180/A. Published data for Dongguan Jiajing ABS XL8765 in post-consumer recycled blends is limited; industrial trials should define the acceptable re-grind fraction rather than relying on generic ABS guidelines.
