In automotive interior applications, Dongguan Hongsheng ABS/PMMA HXG01 is injected at 100 wt% unfilled for piano-black decorative trims; when recompounded with ABS regrind to restore surface hardness, the addition ratio is 20-30 wt% HXG01. The relevant combustion compliance path is FMVSS 302 for interior materials, while volatile and semi-volatile emissions are evaluated under VDA 278 and China-market cabins are assessed against GB/T 27630-2011. Production is performed on hydraulic or hybrid injection molding machines with clamp force in the 150-350 t range, depending on the bezel projected area, and polished tool surfaces of SPI-A2 or equivalent are required to obtain the piano-black reflection. Melt temperature is maintained at 235-250°C, mold temperature at 70-80°C, and drying at 80°C for 4 h to below 0.02% moisture. If mold temperature falls below 60°C, flow lines appear and specular gloss measured at 20° under ASTM D523-20 drops by more than 5 GU. The process boundary is a residence time of 5 min above 255°C, after which PMMA-domain degradation produces a visible yellow shift. Terminal parts include center console bezels, door switch panels, steering wheel decorative rings, and dashboard trim inserts.
For split air-conditioner front panels, HXG01 is processed at 100 wt% unfilled with external mold-release addition restricted to 0.1-0.3 wt%; exceeding 0.3 wt% creates surface haze that lowers gloss by more than 8 GU at 60° under ASTM D523-20. The end-product safety standard is IEC 60335-1:2020, including clause 30 glow-wire requirements for external insulating enclosure parts, while material flammability is documented as UL 94 HB at 1.5 mm. RoHS and REACH obligations are met through supplier declarations against RoHS 2011/65/EU Annex II and the REACH EC 1907/2006 SVHC candidate list. Injection molding is performed with multiple hot-drop gates, melt temperature of 240-255°C, mold temperature of 70-90°C, and packing pressure of 60-80 MPa. Rapid filling at 180-300 mm/s is required to prevent knit-line dulling across louver openings. Terminals include evaporator front panels, display frames, and horizontal blade assemblies.
Consumer electronics housings are injection-molded with HXG01 at 100 wt% unfilled for thin-wall sections of 1.2-2.0 mm; if the flow-length-to-wall-thickness ratio exceeds 150:1, short shots occur and injection speed must be raised above 250 mm/s. Compliance is evaluated under IEC 62368-1:2018 for audio/video and information technology equipment, and the unfilled alloy without flame-retardant masterbatch is classified as UL 94 HB at 1.5 mm. When V-0 or V-1 is specified at 1.5 mm, the formulation requires a phosphorus-based or halogen-free FR package, which is an operational boundary for unfilled HXG01. Molding uses hybrid injection machines with clamp force between 350 t and 1300 t for larger monitor bezels; mold temperature is held at 70-100°C, melt temperature at 240-255°C, and drying at 80°C for 4 h. Terminal products include smart speaker housings, monitor bezels, TV stand covers, and vacuum cleaner shells.
Table 1. Comparative Injection Molding Parameter Windows by Segment
| Segment | Melt temperature | Mold temperature | Drying | Critical processing boundary |
| Automotive piano-black trim | 235-250°C | 70-80°C | 80°C / 4 h | 5 min above 255°C |
| Air-conditioner front panel | 240-255°C | 70-90°C | 80°C / 4 h | Mold release above 0.3 wt% |
| Consumer electronics housing | 240-255°C | 70-100°C | 80°C / 4 h | Flow-length ratio above 150:1 |
| Cosmetic compact case | 240-255°C | 80-100°C | 80°C / 4 h | Silicone release above 0.05 wt% |
| Washing machine console | 240-255°C | 70-90°C | 80°C / 4 h | Regrind above 20 wt% |
| Office equipment panel | 235-250°C | 60-80°C | 80°C / 4 h | 6 min residence above 250°C |
Cosmetic compact cases and lipstick closures are produced from HXG01 at 100 wt% unfilled; if UV-curable topcoat adhesion is required, silicone-based external release agents must remain below 0.05 wt% to prevent delamination. Compliance for cosmetic packaging includes EC 1223/2009 safety assessment requirements, with raw-material documentation covering REACH EC 1907/2006 SVHC and California Proposition 65 listed substances. Multi-cavity tools of 24-96 cavities are run on high-speed injection equipment with mold temperature 80-100°C, melt temperature 240-255°C, injection speed 200-400 mm/s, and packing pressure 80-120 MPa. The high mold temperature is required to replicate polished steel surface texture, because gloss loss at 20° under ASTM D523-20 exceeds 10 GU when the tool temperature falls below 70°C. Prolonged exposure to ketone- or ester-dominant fragrance bases can soften the PMMA surface; compatibility testing under ISO 2812-3 is recommended for formulations containing ethyl acetate or methyl ethyl ketone, although published data for this specific grade under prolonged cosmetic fragrance immersion is limited. Terminal parts are lipstick covers, compact cases, fragrance caps, and cosmetic jar over-shells.
Washing machine control panels and dishwasher user interfaces are injection-molded with HXG01 at 100 wt% unfilled; regrind from rejected panels is re-introduced at 15-20 wt% only after reprocessing and drying, because higher regrind fractions reduce surface gloss by more than 5 GU at 60° under ASTM D523-20. The applicable end-product standards are IEC 60335-1:2020 for electrical safety, IEC 60335-2-7 for washing machines, and IEC 60335-2-5 for dishwashers. Material documentation includes UL 94 HB, RoHS 2011/65/EU, and REACH EC 1907/2006. Molding uses sequential valve-gated hot runners at melt temperature 240-255°C, mold temperature 70-90°C, and packing pressure 60-100 MPa. Surface hardness after exposure to alkaline cleaner is evaluated by pencil hardness under ISO 15184:2020; a minimum of F after 24 h immersion in 5% sodium carbonate solution is required for this material class. Terminal parts are washing machine console panels, dishwasher control facades, and refrigerator display frames.
Scanner covers, printer front doors, and copier side panels are produced from HXG01 at 100 wt% unfilled; when no flame-retardant regulation is required, no FR masterbatch is added, but office machines covered by IEC 62368-1:2018 must satisfy applicable fire enclosure requirements. The material-level compliance path is UL 94 HB at 1.5 mm; RoHS 2011/65/EU and REACH EC 1907/2006 documentation are required. Molding is performed on machines with clamp force of 250-800 t, melt temperature 235-250°C, mold temperature 60-80°C, and hot runner systems configured for balanced filling. The operational boundary is residence time: at melt temperatures above 250°C, total residence must remain below 6 min, and purge intervals are set at 400-600 s to avoid PMMA degradation streaks. Terminal components are scanner covers, printer front doors, copier side panels, and control panel overlays.

In applications where HXG01 is used as a scratch-resistance modifier in ABS-based compounding, the addition ratio is 20-40 wt%, with twin-screw compounding performed at L/D 40:1 and screw speed 300-500 rpm. This configuration is a pellet-conversion process for downstream trims and housings rather than a direct finished-part injection step. Compliance for the compounded pellet is evaluated under REACH EC 1907/2006 and RoHS 2011/65/EU; mechanical property checks include ASTM D638-14 tensile strength and ISO 180:2019 Izod impact. The process limitation is viscosity stratification above 40 wt% HXG01 in single-screw reclaim lines; twin-screw compounding avoids this but raises energy input by approximately 15-20% compared with the unfilled ABS control. Published data for this specific configuration in high-shear capillary rheometry is limited; therefore, line commissioning should include spiral-flow and gloss-retention trials according to the tooling supplier procedure. Terminal products are extruded sheets and injection-molded high-wear trims requiring surface hardness above HB pencil grade.

Dongguan Hongsheng ABS/PMMA HXG01 is a pelletized acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene/poly(methyl methacrylate) alloy compounded for injection moulding and, where screw geometry permits, sheet or profile extrusion. The designation HXG01 identifies a specific supplier formulation within the Dongguan Hongsheng ABS/PMMA range, distinguished by its PMMA-to-ABS ratio, rubber content, and melt viscosity. The material is intended for applications in which the surface hardness, gloss, and mar resistance of PMMA are required without surrendering the practical impact resistance and processability of ABS. Because batch-level values vary with feedstock and compounding energy, the numerical ranges in this article should be read as class-typical data for commercial ABS/PMMA alloys rather than certified lot-specific values for HXG01.
At the compounding stage, the alloy is typically processed on twin-screw extruders with L/D ratios between 36:1 and 44:1 to develop a fine PMMA dispersion while limiting thermal damage to the polybutadiene phase. Over-shearing during compounding can coalesce PMMA domains or initiate crosslinking in the butadiene rubber, producing black specks and reducing surface uniformity. The nominal density of the alloy falls between 1.08 and 1.12 g/cm³ under ISO 1183-1, and the melt flow rate at 220 °C with 10 kg load is class-typically 12–22 g/10 min under ISO 1133-1:2022. These values position HXG01 between lower-flow high-gloss grades and higher-flow impact-modified ABS grades.
Incoming inspection for HXG01 should include melt flow rate, density, notched Izod impact, and surface gloss. Laboratories typically measure melt flow rate under ISO 1133-1:2022 before drying to detect grade contamination or feed errors. The butadiene phase is monitored by notched Izod impact under ISO 180/A; a drop in impact at constant melt flow rate can indicate thermal degradation. Gloss plaques moulded against a polished SPI A-2 insert are checked under ASTM D2457 to verify surface consistency. These measurements are less relevant for differentiating HXG01 from other materials than for establishing lot-to-lot stability in production.
Because the PMMA portion absorbs ambient moisture more readily than ABS, residual moisture is a primary source of splay, silver streaks, and surging at melt temperatures above 230 °C. A desiccant dryer with a dew point no higher than -40 °C and an airflow of at least 3.0 m³/h per kg/h of polymer throughput is required. The granules should be dried at 80 °C for 3–4 h to reach a moisture content below 0.05 %. Verification by a moisture analyzer using ASTM D6869 is preferable to time-based drying alone. Drying above 90 °C or extending residence beyond 6 h may produce pellet bridging and discoloration in the styrenic phase.
Injection moulding of HXG01 is performed on reciprocating screw machines with L/D ratios between 20:1 and 24:1 and compression ratios between 2.0:1 and 2.5:1. A flat-to-slightly-reverse barrel profile from 230 °C near the feed throat to 245 °C at the nozzle limits shear heating. Back pressure is maintained at 0.3–0.7 MPa, with screw rotation in the range of 40–80 min⁻¹ depending on barrel diameter. Mould surface temperature has a measurable effect on gloss; cavities polished to SPI A-2 finish require 50–80 °C to reproduce full gloss and avoid flow lines. On a 1200 kN clamp-force machine running a multi-cavity polished tool, mould temperatures below 50 °C produce visible gate-area dullness, while temperatures above 80 °C prolong cooling and may cause plate-out in unvented tools.
Regrind control is part of melt processing. Uncontaminated sprues and runners may be reused at levels up to 20 % by weight; higher regrind ratios increase the probability of surface defects because multiple heat histories degrade the butadiene phase and raise yellowing in the SAN matrix. When regrind is used, the material should be dried for an additional 1 h per 20 % regrind fraction, but total drying time should not exceed 6 h.
Published data for this specific HXG01 configuration are limited; the following table therefore records class-typical ranges for ABS/PMMA alloys, unmodified ABS, and injection-grade PMMA. Production release criteria should be taken from the certificate of analysis and from the grade-specific technical data sheet issued by Dongguan Hongsheng.
| Property | Test method | HXG01 class-typical | General-purpose ABS | PMMA |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Density | ISO 1183-1 | 1.08–1.12 g/cm³ | 1.04–1.06 g/cm³ | 1.18–1.20 g/cm³ |

| Vicat softening temperature B50 | ISO 306 | 92–103 °C | 92–102 °C | 100–112 °C |
| Gloss at 60° | ASTM D2457 | 80–90 GU | 70–90 GU | 90–95 GU |
| Pencil scratch hardness | ISO 15184 | F–H | 2B–HB | 2H–3H |
Relative to unmodified ABS, HXG01 increases surface hardness and reduces scratch visibility because PMMA domains form a harder surface phase. The corresponding loss is in notched impact and melt fluidity; the butadiene rubber content is lower or less continuous in the alloy than in general-purpose ABS. Compared with straight PMMA, HXG01 retains a polybutadiene-rich phase that arrests crack propagation under notch and drop impact. The trade-off is lower 60° gloss and lower pencil scratch hardness than an all-PMMA surface, together with reduced light transmission because the ABS phase remains opaque.
The ABS phase is a styrene-acrylonitrile copolymer containing polybutadiene rubber particles; the PMMA phase increases the surface hardness and the stiffness of the continuous phase. Adhesion between the two phases is controlled by compounding with styrene-maleic anhydride or other compatibilizers, which are not disclosed in typical commercial datasheets. Because PMMA and SAN have partial miscibility, processing temperature and shear history control the phase dimensions. A fine dispersion yields higher gloss and more uniform scratch resistance; a coarse morphology from inadequate compounding produces visible haze and gloss loss. This morphological sensitivity is the reason the grade is processed with moderate shear rather than high-shear aggressive compounding.
Against PC/ABS, HXG01 generally shows lower heat deflection at 1.80 MPa, lower un-notched multi-axial impact, and more limited chemical resistance to aggressive service fluids. It is selected over PC/ABS when the part specification weights surface scratch resistance, saturated black gloss, and dimensional stability in moderate heat rather than under-hood or structural performance. The distinction matters in visible interior components where scratch damage is a warranty issue and heat exposure is below 100 °C.
Chemical resistance should be considered as an operational boundary. The alloy is attacked by ketones, esters, aromatic hydrocarbons, and chlorinated solvents. Alcohol contact can craze stressed PMMA-rich surface layers; components exposed to ethanol, hand sanitizer, or cosmetically derived oils should be tested under ISO 22088-2 or ASTM D543-21. Processing aids, mould releases, and packaging films containing phthalates or low-molecular-weight esters should be avoided because migration into the PMMA phase reduces softening temperature and surface hardness.
Compared with unmodified ABS, ABS/PMMA alloys generally retain gloss and colour longer under UV exposure because PMMA absorbs wavelengths that degrade the butadiene phase. However, the UV performance is not equivalent to UV-stabilized PMMA, and dark colours may reach surface temperature above 80 °C in direct sunlight. Stabilizer packages in HXG01 should be specified for outdoor use; indoor automotive and cosmetic parts are not expected to endure long-term UV without additional testing under ISO 4892-2 or ASTM G154.
In automotive interior trim, HXG01 is used for piano-black pillar covers, centre console garnish, door handle recesses, and decorative bezels. The core requirement is scratch and mar resistance during occupant contact, measured by pencil hardness under ISO 15184 and by 60° gloss retention under ASTM D2457. Fogging and volatile emission performance are application-dependent; OEM specifications such as DIN 75201-B for fogging and VDA 278 for VOC/FOG are used when the part is supplied to European automotive programs. The user of HXG01 should request lot-specific fogging data from Dongguan Hongsheng because the measured value changes with PMMA content, lubricant package, and regrind level.
Cosmetic packaging closures and compacts are injection-moulded from HXG01 because the PMMA-rich surface withstands repeated handling without the visible scuffing often seen on unmodified ABS. Cap bodies, lipstick cases, and compact shells are polished to high gloss and tested for scratch resistance under ISO 15184. The ABS phase provides enough hinge toughness for snap-fit closures. However, chemical contact with ester-based fragrances, nail polish remover, and certain cream bases may induce stress cracking; compatibility screening under ASTM D543-21 and ISO 22088-2 is required before design freeze.
Appliance and electronics housings, including remote control fascias, air-conditioner bezels, and trim rings, use HXG01 where surface appearance is a purchase criterion and mechanical loading is moderate. Flammability classification for the unfilled grade is typically UL 94 HB. A flame-retardant variant or an appropriate additive package must be specified if the application requires UL 94 V-0; plain HXG01 is not a V-0 material. The grade should not be used for parts in continuous contact with hot surfaces above 100 °C, high-pressure steam, or washing-machine detergent reservoirs without additional chemical resistance testing.
Because PMMA domains are shear-sensitive and hygroscopic, stable surface appearance in HXG01 parts requires control of moisture, melt cushion, and regrind fraction. In multicavity high-gloss tools, a melt cushion of 3–5 mm and decompression below 5 mm reduce nozzle drool and gate blush. For thin-wall sections below 1.5 mm, raising melt temperature to 250 °C is preferred over excessive injection speed, because high shear rates can increase gloss variation and produce black speck formation at the screw tip. These operational boundaries define the practical use window for HXG01: high-gloss, scratch-sensitive moulded parts that require PMMA surface hardness while retaining enough ABS-phase toughness for snap-fit assembly and medium-impact loading.
