Dongguan Guojia ABS 15A1-1108WT enters automotive interior trim through reciprocating-screw injection molding lines with screw L/D ratios of 20:1 to 24:1 and compression ratios of 2.0:1 to 2.5:1. The resin is supplied as a white base and is typically let down with 2–4 wt% of ABS-carrier color masterbatch; non-ABS carriers based on PE or EVA are excluded because interfacial incompatibility reduces impact strength in thin-wall pillar covers and seat-belt anchor covers. Granules are dried in desiccant dryers at 80 °C for 2–4 h to residual moisture below 0.1% before plastication. Melt temperature is held at 230–250 °C, and tooling temperature is maintained at 40–60 °C to balance surface gloss against mold shrinkage of 0.4–0.7% as determined under ISO 294-4. Hydraulic injection pressure is set between 70 and 110 MPa, with hold pressure maintained at 50–70% of the filling pressure and hold time adjusted to gate freeze at 0.8–1.5 s/mm of nominal wall. The cavity is vented through 0.02–0.05 mm land areas to avoid gas burn where two melt fronts converge at bosses, because unreinforced ABS weld lines in ISO 527-2 tensile bars can retain only 65–85% of parent tensile strength when melt and mold temperatures fall below the lower limits. For instrument cluster bezels, center console side panels, and lower pillar trims, the tool grain depth is specified between 25 and 45 µm to control fingerprint visibility. Post-mold painting is not required when the white base is used with 2–3 wt% of a UV-stabilized gray masterbatch. Direct-sunlight applications behind glazing require OEM weathering validation under SAE J2412 because neat ABS exhibits surface chalking and yellowing after extended xenon-arc exposure.
The use of Dongguan Guojia ABS 15A1-1108WT in washing-machine control panels, tumble-dryer front bezels, and vacuum cleaner top covers is controlled by weld-line retention around large rectangular cutouts. In these parts, a single edge gate splits the melt around the opening, and the flow fronts recombine at the opposite side; the residual strength at that junction depends on melt temperature, mold wall temperature, and venting. The resin is pre-dried at 80 °C for 2–4 h to moisture below 0.1%. Melt temperature is held at 220–245 °C, the mold is maintained at 40–70 °C, and injection pressure is set at 70–100 MPa. Hot runner manifold temperature is limited to 230–240 °C to avoid yellowing of the white base. Cold runner diameter is dimensioned at 4–6 mm for wall thicknesses of 2.0–2.5 mm, and gate depth is kept at 60–80% of nominal wall to allow proper packing while maximizing the melt-flow path. Parting-line vents are cut to 0.02–0.04 mm and connected to vacuum at -0.06 to -0.08 MPa to prevent gas entrapment at the weld zone. Regrind addition is limited to 20 wt% for high-gloss surfaces because higher levels shift surface reflectivity and may reduce batch-to-batch color consistency. Additional rutile TiO2 in bright-white concentrates at 3–5 wt% can increase melt viscosity and reduce weld-line strength by 5–10% compared with the unpigmented base; therefore, the concentrate should use an ABS carrier and the injection speed should be raised to 120–160 mm/s when the concentrate is present. Appliance front panels in this material are assessed for flammability under UL 94 HB and ball-pressure behavior under IEC 60695-10-2; live conductor supports require a separate RTI/UL Yellow Card evaluation because this grade is not automatically suitable for those positions.
For low-voltage electronic enclosures and faceplates, 15A1-1108WT is processed in thin walls from 1.0 to 2.0 mm using high-speed injection machines equipped with hydraulic accumulators. The material is pre-dried at 80 °C for 3–4 h to moisture below 0.1%, and the barrel is profiled from 210 °C at the hopper to 240–250 °C at the nozzle. Injection speed is set at 150–200 mm/s to prevent short shots in thin sections; packing pressure is held at 60–80 MPa for 1.5–2.0 s after filling. Hot runner valve gates are specified at 0.8–1.5 mm diameter, and parting-line vents are machined to 0.02–0.04 mm to reduce burn marks at the last-fill boss locations. The molded parts are ejected at surface temperatures below 80 °C and, when metal inserts or self-tapping screws are used, post-molded annealing at 70–80 °C for 1–2 h reduces hoop-stress cracking. Published lot-specific data for 15A1-1108WT under UL 94 is limited; therefore, the neat grade should be treated as HB unless the end user's certified compound reaches a higher listing. Enclosures falling within the scope of IEC 62368-1 must be evaluated for fire containment and electrical safety as a complete assembly. The white surface has a comparative tracking index typical of pigmented ABS; lot-specific values are tested under IEC 60112, and the material must not be used where the equipment standard requires a CTI above the reported certificate value. Surface resistivity of unfilled ABS is typically above 10^15 Ω/sq under IEC 62631-3-2; where electrostatic dissipation is required, an antistatic ABS or carbon-filled ABS at 5–15 wt% addition should be considered. RoHS verification is carried out against 2011/65/EU Annex II, and REACH SVHC disclosure is required at the 0.1 wt% threshold. Suitable terminal components include Wi-Fi router front covers, switch faceplates, surface-mount patch panel housings, and low-voltage control boxes where no flame-retardant limitation applies.
The conversion of Dongguan Guojia ABS 15A1-1108WT into extruded sheet for covers and cladding begins with a single-screw extruder using a barrier screw at L/D 30:1 to 38:1 and a static melt mixer ahead of the flat die. The granules are pre-dried at 80 °C for 3–4 h to moisture below 0.05%; melt temperature at the die is maintained at 210–230 °C to limit thermal yellowing of the white base. The sheet is polished on a three-roll stack with roll temperatures of 70–95 °C and calibrated to thicknesses between 1.0 and 6.0 mm. Sheet stored at ambient relative humidity above 60% must be re-dried at 70–80 °C for 2–4 h before thermoforming, because entrapped moisture blisters when the sheet surface reaches 180 °C. Thermoforming is carried out with sheet surface temperature of 140–170 °C; the lower limit is set by corner sharpness in the formed cover, and the upper limit is set by surface gloss degradation and sagging. For parts with draw ratios above 1.5:1, plug-assist tooling with heated syntactic-foam plugs is used to distribute wall thickness, and the mold is maintained at 60–80 °C to reduce frozen-in orientation. Parts must be cooled to below 80 °C before demolding to prevent post-mold distortion. Thin covers below 1.5 mm are sensitive to gauge variation in flat areas; therefore the sheet extrusion line should use thickness scanning with feedback to the roll gap, and formed parts are checked against the customer's dimensional control plan. Medical cart side panels and kiosk shells in this material are non-patient-contact and require system-level biocompatibility evaluation under ISO 10993-5 and ISO 10993-10; the raw resin alone does not provide biocompatibility data. Machine-tool covers formed from this grade are limited to non-food, non-chemical-contact service because ABS is not stable against strong chlorinated solvents and ester-based cutting fluids.
White ABS hardware components such as flat-pack display plinths, drawer side brackets, office chair cable guides, and POS stand cladding use 15A1-1108WT in a combination of mechanical fastening and solvent cementing. Solvent cement is prepared by dissolving 5–10 wt% clean ABS scrap in a methyl ethyl ketone/acetone blend and applied at 23 °C with an open time of 30–60 s; clamped assemblies are held at 30–100 kPa and achieve structural adhesion after 72 h. The solvent cement route is restricted to unstressed joints because ketone exposure on molded-in stress can cause crazing; components are annealed at 70 °C for 1 h per 5 mm of nominal wall before bonding when the mating area contains sharp corners or ribs. For screw fastening, the boss outer diameter is set at 2.0–2.5 times the screw nominal diameter and the pilot hole is drilled to 0.7–0.8 times the screw diameter to reduce hoop stress. Thread-forming screws with a 30° included flank angle are preferred over thread-cutting screws because cutting edges create micro-cracks at the boss root. Internal corners maintain a minimum radius of 0.5 mm to avoid notch sensitivity. If the component is used in office seating, the finished assembly is tested under ANSI/BIFMA X5.1-2017; the plastic material is not a sole compliance route for load-bearing structural members. Parts in this segment are not suitable for continuous exposure to aromatic hydrocarbons, esters, or chlorinated cleaners; cleaning validation uses only water or 30% isopropyl alcohol solution.

Dongguan Guojia ABS 15A1-1108WT is supplied as a white-toned acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene resin intended for injection moulding and extrusion of rigid technical components. The grade designation follows the supplier’s internal nomenclature; the WT suffix is interpreted as a white pre-compounded variant in which titanium dioxide pigment is distributed through the melt rather than added as a separate hopper masterbatch. This distinguishes the material from natural ABS 15A1 grades and from carbon-black or mass-coloured variants. Published technical bulletins for the exact grade are limited; conversion should therefore be governed by the supplier certificate of analysis and not solely by class-average ABS data. Incoming resin is inspected according to ISO 2580-2:2018 for designation data, ISO 1133-1:2022 for melt flow rate, ISO 1183-1:2019 for density, ASTM D638-14 for tensile behaviour, and ISO 180:2023 for notched Izod impact. The white pigment package may modify low-shear viscosity and increase ash content, which is quantifiable through ISO 3451-1:2019. Typical applications include rigid appliance front panels, electrical enclosures, diffuser-adjacent frames, and lightweight covers where colour consistency and dimensional stability are specified, provided flammability and weathering behaviour are separately validated for the end article.
Before startup, a representative sample from each batch should be tested against the certificate of analysis. Melt flow rate is measured at 220 °C with a 10 kg load under ISO 1133-1:2022. The grade is nominally medium-flow ABS; if the measured MFR falls outside the general range of 10 g/10 min to 25 g/10 min, screw-speed and backpressure corrections will not compensate for a lot-level rheological shift. Tensile yield stress is determined using ASTM D638-14 Type I specimens at 50 mm/min. Medium-impact ABS of this class commonly yields between 35 MPa and 45 MPa, but the product-specific acceptance limit must be taken from the supplier data. Notched Izod impact at 23 °C under ISO 180:2023 is typically in the 15 kJ/m² to 30 kJ/m² range for comparable grades; low-temperature performance at −30 °C is not assumed unless explicitly declared. Ash content is determined by ISO 3451-1:2019 method A at 850 °C. For a white pre-compounded ABS, inorganic residue commonly ranges from 1 wt% to 4 wt% and should be correlated with titanium dioxide loading rather than treated as contamination. Density measured by ISO 1183-1:2019 immersion method is expected near 1.04 g/cm³ to 1.07 g/cm³. Colour coordinates are measured on a d/8 spectrophotometer with D65 illuminant and 10° observer; a ΔEab below 0.5 against the master standard is a common internal tolerance in moulding supply chains. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy can provide rapid confirmation of styrene-acrylonitrile and polybutadiene absorptions, but quantitative composition remains dependent on supplier documentation.
Once melt flow rate and ash content have been accepted, predrying becomes the first production intervention. Desiccant wheel dryers with a return-air dew point at or below −20 °C are set to 80 °C for 2 h to 4 h. The target pellet moisture before melting is below 0.05 wt%. When ambient relative humidity exceeds 60%, the lower boundary of 2 h is prolonged to 4 h. Hopper capacity should match shot weight and cycle time so that dried pellets reside no longer than 6 h at temperature; extended residence can cause yellowing and release of volatile styrene-related fractions. Vacuum drying is an alternative where available, but air temperatures above 95 °C should be avoided because pellet softening in the dryer cone can interrupt screw feeding. The feed throat is maintained below 40 °C to prevent bridging. Moisture-induced splay marks on white surfaces are high-contrast defects, so no production trial should begin without direct verification of residual moisture by Karl Fischer titration or an equivalent calibrated method.
Processing is normally carried out at melt temperatures between 220 °C and 250 °C, measured by needle pyrometer on a purged sample rather than inferred from barrel setpoints alone. Mould wall temperature for white surfaces is typically 30 °C to 60 °C; lower mould temperatures may increase gloss variation and weld-line visibility. Capillary rheometry under ISO 11443:2021 using a 1.0 mm die at 220 °C, 240 °C, and 260 °C supplies the viscosity curve required for injection simulation. The grade should be characterized across apparent shear rates from 100 s⁻¹ to 10,000 s⁻¹ to capture shear-thinning behaviour. In thin-wall sections below 1.2 mm, maximum shear rate during gate filling can exceed 50,000 s⁻¹; if melt fracture or discolouration appears at this condition, gate size or gate count should be increased. Holding pressure is frequently set at 50% to 80% of peak injection pressure. Clamp force is estimated by multiplying projected part area by a cavity pressure of 30 MPa to 50 MPa; for a projected area of 0.05 m², the resulting clamp requirement is 15 t to 25 t. The titanium dioxide pigment may produce a small increase in low-shear viscosity compared with unpigmented ABS; however, published data for this specific configuration is limited and the process window should be confirmed by short-shot studies and moulding trials. Solidification-rate shifts are evaluated by differential scanning calorimetry at 10 K/min per ISO 11357-4.
For processors transitioning from natural ABS plus separate white masterbatch to this pre-compounded grade, hopper setup changes are necessary. Masterbatch letdown ratios for white ABS are commonly between 2 wt% and 8 wt% depending on hiding power and wall thickness; switching to pre-compounded pellets removes that dosing stream but requires resetting the feeding system to single-component operation. An incorrectly retained masterbatch stream shifts pigment loading and ash content outside specification. The pre-compounded route can reduce dry-pigment dust in the moulding cell, but it does not eliminate the mechanical stress-concentration effect of titanium dioxide. Notched impact strength may be slightly lower than an unpigmented grade of equivalent matrix composition. Dispersive mixing is relevant during compounding; twin-screw extrusion with an L/D ratio near 40:1 and screw speeds above 300 rpm is commonly used to break down titanium dioxide agglomerates, but injection moulders receive the material after this step and should not attempt to improve dispersion by extreme injection screw speed. Excessive shear can raise melt temperature and degrade the butadiene phase. Dispersion can be checked by scanning electron microscopy of cryo-fractured surfaces or by counting agglomerates on pressed films; ISO 18553:2002 provides an agglomerate-count method originally developed for polyolefin pipe and is not a direct ABS standard. Surface yellowness and hiding power should be evaluated on plaques of controlled thickness under CIE D65/10° conditions; L* values above 90 are typical for heavily pigmented white grades, but product-specific values must be drawn from the certificate of analysis.
Substitution is valid only when ultraviolet exposure remains confined to indoor fluorescent or LED illumination and not to direct sunlight. ABS contains unsaturated polybutadiene domains that undergo auto-oxidation under UV, producing yellowing and eventual embrittlement. Titanium dioxide in white grades absorbs ultraviolet radiation and can delay surface yellowing, but the protective effect is limited by pigment concentration, dispersion, and additive stabilization. Xenon-arc weathering under ISO 4892-2:2013 with a daylight filter at a black panel temperature of 65 °C and a dry/wet cycle of 18 min/102 min is used to benchmark gloss retention and Δb. For ABS, Δb greater than 2 after 300 h is not uncommon depending on stabilization; published data for this specific white configuration is limited, so end-use validation is required. If outdoor exposure is intended, the material should be substituted with ASA or AES unless the supplier demonstrates sufficient impact retention after weathering under ASTM D638-14 and ISO 180:2023. Replacing natural ABS with this grade in interior panels can improve initial colour consistency and hide minor flow marks; however, weld lines remain visible because white pigment aligns with the melt front. Gate blush and dark carbon-based degradation specks are also more visible on white surfaces, so hot-runner selection should avoid dead spots and polymer stagnation. This ABS grade is not a direct substitute for PC/ABS in applications requiring deflection temperature under load above 100 °C. Unreinforced ABS typically exhibits HDT between 75 °C and 95 °C when measured per ISO 75-2:2013 method A at 1.8 MPa; any reinforcement or additive modification must be confirmed with the supplier.
Regulatory compliance cannot be assumed from the supplier part number. A compliance checklist should include EU RoHS directive 2011/65/EU as amended by (EU) 2015/863, covering lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, PBB, PBDE, and the four phthalates DEHP, BBP, DBP, and DIBP. Each threshold is 0.1 wt% in homogeneous material except cadmium at 0.01 wt%. The supplier should provide a REACH SVHC declaration against the candidate list current in the year of import. For electrical insulating parts, comparative tracking index is measured under IEC 60112:2020; unreinforced ABS often achieves PLC 3 or higher, but this product should not be assigned a CTI value without specific testing. Flammability is not implied by the ABS base polymer; a UL 94 rating is available only if the grade contains flame-retardant additives and has been tested in the final wall thickness. Toy and food-contact surface requirements are article-specific and require additional testing such as EN 71-3:2019+A1:2021 migration of certain elements or EU Regulation 10/2011 on plastic materials intended for food contact. Titanium dioxide pigment systems must satisfy purity constraints relevant to the target region. Packaging, lot traceability, and safety data sheet content are part of the supplier quality agreement and should be obtained from Dongguan Guojia before procurement.
