In automotive interior trim, Dongguan Guojia ABS 0215A-108 is molded on closed-loop reciprocating-screw machines with three-zone screws having L/D ratios from 20:1 to 24:1 and compression ratios from 2.0:1 to 2.5:1. Drying before molding is performed in a desiccant-wheel dryer with a supply-air dew point of −20°C to −30°C and a bed temperature of 80°C for 3–4 h, targeting residual moisture below 0.05 wt% by ISO 15512:2019 method A. If the resin is processed above 0.08 wt% moisture, steam generation at nozzle temperatures of 230°C–250°C produces splay, silver streak, and gate-area voiding in wall sections from 2.0 mm to 2.5 mm. The melt-temperature profile is held between 230°C and 250°C at the nozzle, with the compression zone maintained 10°C–15°C lower to limit polybutadiene chain scission. Mold surface temperature is fixed between 50°C and 60°C for low-gloss textured parts and between 70°C and 80°C for piano-black surfaces requiring a 60° specular gloss value above 85 GU when measured according to ISO 2813:2014. Higher mold temperature increases cycle time by 8–15 s and increases ejection difficulty in areas with draft angles below 0.5°.
Injection fill time for a 400 mm flow length is set from 0.8 s to 1.2 s; pack pressure is set from 60 MPa to 80 MPa for 4–8 s, and cooling time is calculated from the square of wall thickness at 15–25 s for a 2.5 mm section. Clamp force is allocated at 3.0–4.5 kN/cm² of projected area. Weld lines at HVAC vent apertures and switch openings are displaced toward non-appearance areas by sequential valve gates with diameters from 0.8 mm to 1.5 mm or by overflow tabs. Component-level validation is performed by ISO 178:2019 flexural modulus measurements, which generally fall between 2100 MPa and 2600 MPa for unfilled ABS in this melt-flow band; tensile yield stress is checked by ISO 527-2:2012 and typically lies between 40 MPa and 48 MPa. Notched Izod impact by ISO 180/1A:2019 at 23°C falls between 18 kJ/m² and 32 kJ/m², while at −30°C the same test returns 8–14 kJ/m², so clip towers and snap-fit bosses require minimum root radii of 0.8–1.2 mm and gates positioned away from high-tensile-stress regions. The grade is not a UV-stabilized exterior material; unpainted parts exposed to sunlight show gloss loss and yellowing under ASTM D4329-13 cycle A within extended exposure, and exterior deployment requires opaque coating or a UV package.
Thermal stability sets the upper cabin service limit: heat deflection temperature according to ISO 75-2:2020 under 1.82 MPa is generally 88°C–98°C for the unfilled ABS class, so structural retention above 80°C continuous should be checked. Adjacent PVC skins and soft-touch lacquers can release plasticizers that induce environmental stress cracking; a bent-strip test according to ISO 22088-3 at 1%–2% strain in the presence of the actual service fluid is recommended before production release. Published data for this specific lot and highly grained tool configuration is limited, so pilot-run parts must be thermally cycled between −30°C and 80°C for dimensional audit and squeak-and-rattle evaluation.
ABS 0215A-108 is processed into DIN-rail terminal housings, wall-mounted distribution-box frames, and switchgear front plates where nominal wall thickness is 2.5–3.0 mm and the maximum continuous ambient temperature does not exceed 70°C. Flammability classification for unfilled material in these thicknesses is normally UL 94 HB; HB is acceptable only where the end-product standard does not demand V-0, V-2, or glow-wire ignition above 650°C. Compliance for electronic enclosures is therefore tied to IEC 60695-2-11:2021 glow-wire testing at the specified end-product thickness and to IEC 60112:2020 for comparative tracking index; unfilled black ABS often shows CTI values above 600 V with test solution A, but the lot certificate must be inspected before creepage distances are reduced.
When regrind content exceeds 20 wt%, the first heat history clips polybutadiene sequences and reduces melt viscosity; the change is detected by pre-drying the regrind at 80°C for 3 h and measuring melt mass-flow rate by ISO 1133-1:2022 at 220°C / 10 kg. If the MFR shifts more than 2 g/10 min from the virgin lot, barrel temperatures are reduced by 5°C and back pressure is lowered from 6 MPa to 4 MPa to protect the melt cushion. Total melt residence time in the hot runner should not exceed 5 min at 240°C; beyond this, surface yellowing and acetaldehyde-like odor become apparent on production machines. Shot size is maintained between 50% and 75% of barrel capacity, and screw L/D is 20:1 to 24:1 with a compression ratio of 2.0:1 to 2.5:1.
Injection pressure for 2.5 mm enclosure walls is 70–100 MPa; mold temperature is held at 40°C–60°C; clamp force is 3.5–5.0 kN/cm² of projected area. Moisture absorption after 24 h at 23°C is 0.25–0.45 wt% by ISO 62:2008, which does not materially affect electrical insulation but can shift snap-fit interference by a few hundredths of a millimetre; dimensional audits should therefore be conducted after 48 h conditioning at 23°C and 50% RH according to ISO 291:2008. Each lot intended for EU electrical installations must be accompanied by a RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU Annex II screening and a REACH Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 SVHC declaration covering the complete raw-material stream.

Threaded conduit adapters, locknuts, and elbow bodies molded from ABS 0215A-108 are governed by IEC 61386-1 for compression and impact behavior at low and elevated temperatures. The critical molding conflict in these parts is the female thread core pin, which splits the melt front and creates a weld line along the thread root. At mold surface temperatures of 40°C, weld-line tensile strength retention in unfilled ABS drops to the lower boundary of the typical dispersion; raising the mold surface to 60°C–70°C and holding cavity pressure during thread solidification improves tensile retention. Notched Charpy impact by ISO 179-1/1eA at 23°C commonly lies between 15 kJ/m² and 25 kJ/m² for unfilled injection-molding ABS, but at −5°C the value drops to 6–12 kJ/m²; it is therefore necessary to conduct the IEC 61386-1 impact test on each production tool and not rely on raw resin values.
Injection molding of threaded sections uses a melt temperature of 220°C–240°C, a mold temperature of 60°C–70°C, back pressure of 4–8 MPa, and relatively slow injection speed of 40–80 mm/s to avoid jetting and gas entrapment at the thread roots. Thick threaded hubs from 4.0 mm to 6.0 mm require hold pressure of 70–100 MPa applied for 8–14 s; cooling time is extended to 25–40 s. Post-mold annealing at 70°C for 2 h reduces residual stress before tapping or thread chasing, but the actual dimensional shift must be validated. Shrinkage is 0.5%–0.7% by ISO 294-4:2018, and a mold-temperature shift of ±5°C can move thread pitch diameter by approximately 0.02 mm in these geometries, which is sufficient to alter fit class. Pipe sealants, thread-locking compounds, and cutting fluids containing aromatic hydrocarbons, ketones, or esters can craze stressed threads; a bent-strip test to ISO 22088-3 at 1%–2% strain in the actual service fluid is required for chemical resistance qualification. Phosphate ester hydraulic fluids are regarded as incompatible with unfilled ABS; published data for this specific threaded configuration is limited.
Replacement of PC/ABS with ABS 0215A-108 in a vacuum cleaner cyclone body or bagless dust canister must be gated by the thermal profile of the motor exhaust path, not by room-temperature mechanical properties alone. The heat deflection temperature of unfilled ABS under 1.82 MPa is 88°C–98°C by ISO 75-2:2020, whereas PC/ABS typically lies between 120°C and 128°C under the same test. If a clogged-hose operating condition raises the internal surface temperature above 80°C, the ABS part enters a region where creep modulus declines and snap-fit bosses begin to relax. The substitution is therefore limited to units where continuous cyclone surface temperature remains below 75°C and wall thickness is no less than 2.0 mm.
Comparative impact performance: notched Izod impact at 23°C for unfilled ABS is 18–32 kJ/m² by ISO 180/1A:2019, while PC/ABS often returns 35–50 kJ/m²; at −10°C the ABS value drops to 8–14 kJ/m², whereas PC/ABS retains 20–30 kJ/m². Falling-mass impact testing of production canisters must therefore be performed by ISO 6603-2:2023 at −10°C, 0°C, and 23°C on parts molded from the actual tool; published data for this specific ABS grade in cyclone geometry is limited. A thin-wall 2.0 mm canister with eight valve gates requires a melt temperature of 230°C–245°C, a mold temperature of 50°C–60°C, and an injection pressure of 80–110 MPa; simultaneous valve-gate opening with cavity-pressure switchover at 95% fill prevents core shift and uncontrolled weld-line movement.
Bosses for cyclone retention screws are molded with 6–8 mm outer diameter and 2.0 mm wall; hold pressure is 60–80 MPa for 6–10 s to avoid sink marks. The use of self-tapping screws is restricted to thread-forming types, because cutting-type screws create hoop stress that lowers repeated assembly life. Internal surfaces exposed to quartz dust and hard debris will lose gloss but retain structural integrity; the more significant risk is embrittlement at low temperature after 500–1000 h of cyclic service under ISO 22088-3 chemical contact with household cleaning agents. Therefore, production validation should include a 72 h exposure to dilute detergent followed by a −10°C impact sequence.
Washing machine and dishwasher control-panel fascias made from ABS 0215A-108 are injection molded with high-gloss cavity surfaces and thin-walled frames from 2.0 mm to 2.5 mm. The primary process variable for gloss is mold surface temperature; at 50°C the parts may not exceed 80 GU at 60° measured by ISO 2813:2014, while at 75°C the same tool often reaches 85–90 GU. The higher mold temperature adds 8–15 s cycle time and increases ejection sticking on untextured vertical walls. Cavity steel is specified as polished stainless or through-hardened steel with SPI A-1 finish; draft angles below 1.0° are avoided because demolding damage appears as micro-crazing only after detergent exposure.
Panel flatness is coupled to linear thermal expansion: the coefficient of linear thermal expansion by ISO 11359-2:2021 is 7×10⁻⁵ K⁻¹ to 9×10⁻⁵ K⁻¹. A 600 mm panel subjected to a 30 K rise therefore expands 1.2–1.6 mm, so mounting is designed with one central fixed boss and four slotted clearance holes. Chemical resistance is evaluated by ISO 175:2010 immersion in 0.5 wt% sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate at 60°C for 24 h; undiluted liquid detergent in contact with a stressed boss area can produce crazing because ABS is notch-sensitive to aggressive surfactants. Pack pressure below 70 MPa in 2.3 mm walls causes sink marks and increases residual stress; pack pressure is therefore set at 70–90 MPa for 5–8 s, with melt temperature at 235°C–250°C and mold temperature at 70°C–80°C. Mechanical acceptance is based on ISO 178:2019 flexural modulus of 2200–2600 MPa and ISO 527-2:2012 tensile yield stress of 40–48 MPa; if the panel is side-gated, asymmetric cooling warps in proportion to wall-thickness mismatch, so wall-thickness variation is held below 0.1 mm.
Interlocking toy components, educational construction sets, and hobby-grade mechanical housings place a different constraint set on ABS 0215A-108: multi-cavity filling uniformity, low migration of elements, and final-dimensional stability under consumer handling. The material is processed in precision molds with 16–64 cavities, typically using tunnel gates or sub-gates of 0.8–1.2 mm; cavity-to-cavity mass variation is held below ±0.5% to maintain consistent clutch force. Melt temperature is 225°C–240°C, mold temperature is 50°C–60°C, injection velocity is 120–180 mm/s, and pack pressure is 70–100 MPa for 2–4 s. Shrinkage is measured by ISO 294-4:2018 and ranges from 0.4% to 0.7%, so precision block dimensions require mold temperature control within ±3°C and dimensional audit after 48 h conditioning at 23°C and 50% RH.
Chemical and elemental compliance is mandatory under EN 71-3:2019 + A1:2021 for migration of 19 elements, U.S. 16 CFR 1303 for total lead, CPSIA Section 108 for phthalates, and REACH Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 SVHC screening. ABS without plasticized PVC does not normally contain phthalates, but recycled feedstock or masterbatch carriers must be documented. Moisture absorption is 0.25–0.45 wt% by ISO 62:2008 after 24 h at 23°C; this alters tight interference fits by a small dimensional increment and therefore all snap-fit audits are performed after conditioning. Residual styrene and butadiene migration limits are relevant for mouthing toys; if the part is intended for users below 3 years of age, lot-specific headspace GC/MS testing is required since the grade is not qualified by default for repeated mouthing migration.

Dongguan Guojia ABS 0215A-108 is an injection-molding grade of acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene copolymer supplied in pelletized form. The grade belongs to the 0215A series and is distinguished by a controlled reduction in melt viscosity relative to the series base resin. Manufacturer technical literature lists the melt volume-flow rate as 18 cm³/10 min at 220 °C under 10 kg load according to ISO 1133-1:2022, and the density as 1.04 g/cm³ according to ISO 1183-1:2019. The material is used primarily in multi-cavity injection tooling for appliance housings, electronic enclosures, vacuum cleaner shells, and interior trim components where flow length, fill balance, and short cycle time are central constraints. The notched Charpy impact value at 23 °C is reported as 21 kJ/m² under ISO 179-1:2010. These figures are typical lot-average values and are not contractual specification limits.
Pre-drying is mandatory at 80 °C for 2 h to 4 h in a desiccant dryer because moisture above 0.05 % by weight causes hydrolysis of the acrylonitrile component and visible splay on gate-adjacent surfaces. In production-scale equipment, a closed-loop desiccant bed with a dew point at or below -40 °C is the standard configuration; hopper dryers without an active desiccant wheel do not maintain the required moisture ceiling when ambient relative humidity exceeds 60 %. Melt temperature measured by an immersion probe at the nozzle should remain between 220 °C and 250 °C. Barrel zones are typically profiled from 200 °C at the feed throat to 235 °C at the metering section, while the nozzle is often held at 230 °C to prevent drool. Mold temperature is maintained between 40 °C and 80 °C; lower settings reduce cycle time but increase frozen-in orientation and can decrease notched impact strength in thin-walled sections. Screw back pressure is set from 5 bar to 10 bar hydraulic, and screw surface speed is held below 0.2 m/s to avoid frictional heat and yellowing. A general-purpose screw with an L/D ratio of 20:1 to 22:1 and a compression ratio of 2.5:1 is adequate; high-shear barrier screws may generate unmelted solids and should be qualified by purge trials before production.
Residence time at barrel temperature should not exceed 10 min. If the press is stopped, the barrel should be purged with the grade itself or with a general-purpose ABS purging compound. Shot size should use 50 % to 75 % of barrel capacity; larger shots prolong recovery time and increase melt-temperature variation across the shot. Cushion is maintained at 3 mm to 6 mm. On a 1,600 kN toggle-clamp machine with a 45 mm screw, injection pressure requirements for 2 mm-thick electronic enclosure walls are often observed between 80 MPa and 120 MPa hydraulic, depending on gate style and runner balance. Hot-runner systems using valve gates should be set with a manifold temperature of 235 °C and an initial valve-pin delay of 0.1 s to 0.3 s.
Rheologically, ABS grades with a melt volume-flow rate near 18 cm³/10 min commonly show pseudoplastic shear thinning between 100 s⁻¹ and 1,000 s⁻¹. Cavity fill should be corrected by adjusting melt temperature or injection velocity before raising mold temperature, because mold temperature changes affect surface gloss and cooling time disproportionately. Gate shear rates should be kept below 100,000 s⁻¹ to avoid melt fracture and surface haze; gate diameter is therefore critical for thin-wall connectors molded with 0215A-108.
In an injection-molding plant running refrigerator trim panels with a 1,200 kN hydraulic machine and an 8-cavity cold-runner tool, the 0215A-108 grade is typically processed at a melt temperature of 235 °C and a mold temperature of 60 °C. Batch-to-batch variation in melt volume-flow rate is usually contained within ±1.5 cm³/10 min under ISO 1133-1:2022; exceeding this band requires adjustment of the injection velocity profile and transfer position. Observed failure modes include silver streaking when the dryer dew point rises above -30 °C, delamination along the weld line when melt temperature falls below 220 °C, and warpage in flat panels when the cooling time is shortened below 12 s with mold temperature above 70 °C. These are process-related defects, not indications of resin degradation, and they are corrected by returning the dryer, melt probe, and mold thermolator to the stated ranges.
The values in Table 1 are reproduced from manufacturer typical data and are intended for initial tool design and material-selection calculations. They are not contractual minimum or maximum specification values.

Relative to a standard-viscosity 0215A series grade, the -108 variant lowers melt pressure at a given shear rate and improves spiral-flow length in thin-wall sections. In a comparative trial using a spiral-flow tool with a channel depth of 2 mm, the -108 variant filled a flow length approximately 15 % longer than the standard 0215A reference at the same melt temperature of 240 °C and injection speed of 80 mm/s. The gain in flow is accompanied by a reduction in low-temperature toughness; Charpy notched impact at -30 °C is reported as 9 kJ/m², while the standard series grade may retain 12 kJ/m². For applications requiring both high flow and low-temperature impact, a PC/ABS alloy should be considered instead of this unfilled ABS. However, 0215A-108 retains better chemical resistance to aliphatic hydrocarbons and diluted acids than many PC/ABS blends, and it avoids the translucency issues that can occur with high-rubber ABS grades.
Compared with high-heat ABS grades, 0215A-108 has a lower Vicat softening temperature. High-heat ABS references with Vicat values near 106 °C are preferable for instrument panel substrates under solar load, but they generally process at melt temperatures above 260 °C and have lower flow. The selection of 0215A-108 is therefore constrained to interior or non-solar-load parts such as vacuum cleaner housings, humidifier shells, and monitor back covers. Published data for this specific configuration is limited concerning long-term UV aging; external automotive use without painting or UV-stabilized capstock is not recommended.
Table 2 summarizes the trade-off between flow, heat resistance, and impact. The high-heat column is a nominal reference, not a specific Dongguan Guojia grade, and should be verified against the relevant datasheet before tool design.

For regulatory documentation, 0215A-108 is commonly screened against RoHS 2011/65/EU Annex II and REACH Candidate List SVHC obligations by X-ray fluorescence and wet chemical digestion. In the absence of a customer-specific specification, typical acceptance limits are 1000 mg/kg for lead, 1000 mg/kg for mercury, 100 mg/kg for cadmium, and 1000 mg/kg for hexavalent chromium in homogeneous material. The resin should not be blended with PVC or halogenated flame retardants if RoHS-compliant output is required. For food-contact applications, the final article must be evaluated under FDA 21 CFR 177.1020 or the relevant national migration standard; the raw resin alone does not confer regulatory clearance. Avoid combination with amine-based additives or metal stearates above 0.5 % because these can alter the stabilization package and induce discoloration at processing temperatures above 240 °C.
The grade is not optimized for sheet extrusion or profile extrusion; its relatively low melt strength can cause edge neck-in on polishing rolls and cross-section distortion in asymmetric profiles. Storage should be maintained in sealed containers at ambient temperatures below 35 °C. Once opened, the material should be consumed within 4 h after drying or returned to a desiccant hopper to prevent moisture re-uptake.
