When a polished P20 or 1.2738 mould is filled with Dongguan Dateng/Tengze ABS 707 at melt temperatures exceeding 255 °C, the polybutadiene-grafted styrene-acrylonitrile phase begins thermo-oxidative degradation that appears downstream as silver streaking, brownish gate blush, and a measurable drop in 60° gloss units. High-gloss interior trim parts therefore require a narrow barrel profile—220 °C in the rear zone, 230 °C in the compression zone, and 240 °C maximum at the nozzle—rather than a uniform melt setting. The material requires closed-loop dehumidifying drying at 80±5 °C for 2–4 h until residual moisture is ≤0.05 wt%. Compliance for this segment is governed by VDA 277 for organic emissions, REACH (EC) No 1907/2006, RoHS 2011/65/EU as amended by (EU) 2015/863, and OEM-specific dimensional tests drawn from ISO 178:2019 and ISO 180:2023. The formulation is restricted to 100 parts by weight ABS 707 and 1–3 phr of pre-dried automotive-grade color masterbatch; filler reinforcement is omitted because talc at 5–10 phr reduces surface distinctness of image measured as gloss drop under ISO 2813:2014 and can lower multi-axial impact under ISO 6603-2:2023. The injection moulding process uses a 22:1 to 25:1 L/D general-purpose screw with a compression ratio of 2.2:1 to 2.5:1, a back pressure of 5–10 bar to suppress unmelted pigment streaks, and a screw rotation speed below 80 min⁻¹ to limit shear heating. Mould temperature is held at 50–70 °C; holding pressure is set between 35 MPa and 55 MPa, with gate freeze confirmed by part weight stability before cooling ends. Terminal products include instrument cluster bezels, steering-column upper and lower shrouds, door panel insert trims, air-vent louvers, and armrest switch covers—none of which are direct exterior UV-exposed panels. ABS 707 without a UV protective cap layer or stabilizer package is not suitable for painted exterior or semi-exterior applications where repeated direct sunlight would initiate carbonyl formation and surface chalking.
Household appliance housings impose a surface-quality requirement that is more sensitive to residual moisture than to polymer molecular weight distribution. When ABS 707 is dried to ≤0.05 wt% moisture and processed at a melt temperature of 230–250 °C, the risk of hydrolysis-induced splay at the flow front is minimized; raising mould temperature to 60–80 °C further improves gloss transfer from a polished cavity. Compliance for the segment includes IEC 60335-1:2020 with clause 30.2 glow-wire ignition resistance, whose final test temperature is set by the end-product standard rather than the resin alone. Processors must verify that ABS 707 achieves at least UL 94 HB at the minimum wall thickness used in production, because the grade does not contain a flame-retardant package. The blending ratio for this segment is 100 parts ABS 707 to 2–4 phr of white inorganic masterbatch, with titanium dioxide content controlled because excessive TiO₂ above 5 phr can increase melt viscosity and reduce flow length; the melt mass-flow rate is verified under ISO 1133-1:2022. For high-speed multicavity tools, a cold-runner system with restricted gates of 1.0–1.5 mm diameter is used, and clamp force is calculated at 4–6 kN/cm² of projected area. The downstream process is injection moulding with a dehumidifying dryer dew point of -30 °C or lower, a barrel profile from 210 °C rear to 240 °C nozzle, and a filling speed profile of 30–70 mm/s screw advance to prevent jetting. Terminal finished products include air-purifier front panels, vacuum-cleaner dust tank housings, electric heater non-food-contact lateral panels, and floor-care appliance cowls. Food-contact certification under FDA 21 CFR 177.1020 is outside the base grade specification and must be verified by the supplier for each lot if the appliance housing contacts food or potable water.
| Application segment | Primary standard / regulation | Specific method or clause | Critical production control |
|---|---|---|---|
| Automotive interior trim | VDA 277 | Headspace VOC emission | Drying at 80±5 °C to ≤0.05 wt% moisture |
| Household appliance housing | IEC 60335-1 | Clause 30.2 glow-wire | UL 94 HB at minimum part wall |
| Consumer electronics enclosure | IEC 62368-1 | Fire enclosure requirements | Pack pressure 60–80 MPa, cushion 3–5 mm |
| Toy structural parts | EN 71-3 | Migration of elements | Regrind ≤20 wt% same-lot, phthalate-free |
| Office equipment external parts | UL 94 | UL 94 HB | Wall thickness 2.0–2.5 mm, weld-line management |
| Cosmetic / personal-care shells | EU 1223/2009 | Annex II compatibility | Rapid heat/cool 110–130 °C to 55–65 °C |
Sequential valve-gated hot-runner tools with 4 to 8 drops and polished S136 cavities are often specified for high-gloss monitor bezels and router shells because a cold-runner gate vestige creates a visible blemish on the exterior surface; the valve gate opens after melt has passed the manifold shear zone, and the gate mark is flattened by a short 0.3–0.8 s post-fill pack pulse. For ABS 707, the consumer electronics enclosure segment uses 100 parts by weight of resin, 1–2 phr of carbon black or color masterbatch, and—only when end-user handling requires surface resistivity below 10¹² Ω/sq per IEC 61340-5-1—1.5–3.0 phr of non-amine antistatic masterbatch. Amine-based antistatic agents are avoided because they can accelerate hydrolysis of the SAN phase at processing temperatures and produce surface bloom that reduces paint adhesion measured by cross-cut under ISO 2409:2020. Regulatory compliance is anchored to IEC 62368-1:2023 fire-enclosure tests, RoHS 2011/65/EU with the (EU) 2015/863 phthalate additions, WEEE 2012/19/EU recycling marking, and ASTM D256-10(2018) Izod verification at 23 °C and -30 °C. Injection moulding process conditions include melt temperature 235–250 °C, mould temperature 60–80 °C, pack pressure 60–80 MPa, and a melt cushion held between 3 mm and 5 mm so that the screw does not pack the runner and cause over-compression at the gate. For a 2.0 mm wall, cooling time is commonly 14–20 s before ejection, with post-mould dimensional stabilisation 24 h at 23±2 °C and 50±5% relative humidity before critical-dimension audit. Terminal components include LED monitor bezels, Wi-Fi router housings, keyboard enclosures, audio receiver front panels, and multi-function printer control-panel frames. Published property data for this specific grade under high-speed valve-gated moulding is limited; processors should confirm rheological pressure loss across the hot-runner manifold with in-mould pressure sensors rather than relying on barrel pressure adjustment alone.
Toy structural components fabricated from ABS 707 must meet elemental migration limits for Category III materials under EN 71-3:2019+A1:2021, with the specific maximum soluble concentrations taken from the standard’s limit table rather than from generic resin data. The formulation is 100 parts ABS 707, 1–4 phr of heavy-metal-free pigment masterbatch, and 0 parts phthalate plasticizer; phthalate plasticizers are absent from the base polymer because ABS 707 is not a PVC-based compound and the processor must verify that pigment carriers do not introduce restricted phthalates under REACH Annex XVII entries 51, 52, 54. Regrind from sprues and runners may be incorporated up to 20 wt% only if the regrind is generated from the same lot, documented under a closed-loop material-control procedure, and free of dust, oil, or metal flakes that would alter extraction levels. Production is by injection moulding on tools with polished cores to achieve block-stack fit without adhesive; melt temperature is set at 220–240 °C, mould temperature at 45–65 °C, and holding pressure at 30–50 MPa. The process avoids excessive residence time above 240 °C because thermal degradation of the styrene-acrylonitrile phase can release low-molecular-weight fragments that complicate compliance audits. Terminal product types include interlocking construction blocks, board-game storage racks, ride-on vehicle dashboards, toy vehicle wheel covers, and stacking ring inserts. Compliance also overlaps with ASTM F963-23 and ISO 8124-3:2020; each finished article lot is subjected to third-party migration testing because pigment masterbatch carriers and processing aids must not introduce restricted elements above the standard thresholds.
For paper tray and copier side-cover production, the absence of a flame-retardant package in ABS 707 limits the moulding to UL 94 HB enclosure positions inside equipment that already meets final-product fire-enclosure criteria under IEC 62368-1. The processing formulation uses 100 parts ABS 707, 1–2 phr of carbon black masterbatch, and 2–5 phr of potassium-ion antistatic masterbatch when the part is a paper-path component and dust attraction must be minimized under IEC 61340-5-1; however, antistatic loading above 5 phr can lower notched Izod impact and should be validated via ISO 180:2023 at the minimum production wall. Injection moulding uses a 2.0–2.5 mm nominal wall, melt temperature 230–250 °C, mould temperature 40–55 °C, and a cold-runner system with fan gates to reduce pressure loss. The relatively low mould temperature shortens cycle time, but weld lines at paper-guide slots may require local cavity heating or overflow tabs to move knit lines away from load-bearing bosses. Terminal finished parts include printer side covers, paper trays, scanner lids, copier front panels, and shredder access trays. Continuous service temperature under load is verified by ISO 75-2:2013 method B at 0.45 MPa; if the part operates inside a fuser zone where local air temperature exceeds 70 °C, ABS 707 should not be specified without forced-air cooling or mechanical isolation.
Cosmetic and personal-care packaging shells require a surface finish that conventional moulding at 50–60 °C tool temperature cannot fully replicate; rapid heat/cool moulding raises the polished cavity to 110–130 °C with pressurised water or oil before injection, then drops it to 55–65 °C for ejection. The ABS 707 formulation for this segment is 100 parts resin, 1–3 phr of high-transparency or opaque masterbatch, and no external lubricant; secondary decoration by hot stamping, vacuum metallizing, or UV lacquer requires the moulded surface energy to remain above 40 mN/m per ASTM D2578-23, and slip additives would compromise adhesion under ISO 2409:2020 cross-cut testing. Compliance includes EU 1223/2009 Annex II compatibility screening when the plastic surface contacts the cosmetic formulation, REACH (EC) No 1907/2006 article obligations, CLP (EC) No 1272/2008 for SVHC notification, and ISO 2813:2014 gloss verification with a 60° measurement geometry. Mould steel is typically S136 or 1.2316 with a 0.5–1.0 µm diamond polish; mould temperature controller slew rate is 5–10 °C/s in the heating phase; melt temperature is 230–240 °C; injection speed is high at 60–100 mm/s to prevent premature freeze of the flow front; holding pressure is 45–65 MPa. Terminal product types include compact mirror housings, lipstick outer shells, cosmetic jar collars, hair clipper shell covers, and electric toothbrush handle covers. Published data for this specific ABS 707 configuration under rapid heat/cool is limited; each tool is validated by gloss meter at 60° per ISO 2813:2014 and by notched Izod per ISO 180:2023 on end-gated plaques rather than by extrapolation from conventional moulding data.

Dongguan Dateng / Tengze ABS 707 is an acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene copolymer supplied as cylindrical pellets for injection molding and selected extrusion applications. The numerical suffix 707 denotes a general-purpose, high-flow grade in the supplier’s product range. Manufacturer-published data for this specific Tengze designation are limited; processing and property values presented below are derived from supplier inspection certificates, distributor technical bulletins for equivalent general-purpose high-flow ABS grades, and standard ABS polymer data. The grade is typically specified for appliance housings, electrical enclosures, toys, office equipment chassis, and thin-walled consumer goods where moderate impact resistance and consistent mold filling over long rib sections are required. It is not intended for applications requiring prolonged outdoor UV stability without coating or UV stabilizer addition.
Incoming resin is characterized by a moisture-sensitive acrylonitrile phase and a rubber phase that imposes an upper temperature boundary. These two constraints define the practical processing envelope and the main failure modes at the press: splay, brown streaks, gate blush, and knit-line cracking.
Melt temperature at the nozzle is maintained between 200 °C and 240 °C. The lower bound is set by insufficient plastication torque and high screw recovery time, while the upper bound is set by thermo-oxidative degradation of the polybutadiene phase. Mold temperature is held between 40 °C and 80 °C; higher mold surface temperatures improve knit-line strength at the expense of cycle time. A reciprocating screw with an L/D ratio of 20:1 to 24:1 and a compression ratio of 2.0:1 to 2.5:1 is adequate. Back pressure is controlled in the range 3–7 bar to homogenize the melt without excessive shear heating. Screw surface speed is limited to 0.3–0.6 m/s. On a 1,200 kN hydraulic injection molding machine, first-stage injection pressure is typically set between 70 MPa and 100 MPa, with a switch-over position adjusted to maintain a cavity pressure target of 40–60 MPa during first-stage packing.
Injection velocity profiling is required for parts with flow length exceeding 100 mm. A stepped profile of 80 mm/s for the sprue and main runner, 50 mm/s through the gate, and 40 mm/s for the final 20% of fill reduces jetting and improves weld-line appearance. These parameters are not universal and should be verified against short-shot progression studies using 95–98% filled parts.
At a shear rate of 1,000 s−1 and melt temperature of 220 °C, the apparent viscosity of general-purpose high-flow ABS in this class typically falls between 120 Pa·s and 180 Pa·s. The melt exhibits shear-thinning behavior with a power-law index of approximately 0.35–0.45 over the 100–5,000 s−1 range. The oxidation induction time in air at 230 °C for comparable ABS grades is often reported between 15 min and 30 min; for ABS 707, the practical maximum continuous residence time in the barrel should not exceed 10 min at 240 °C. Extended residence produces yellowing due to carbonyl and hydroperoxide formation, with a measurable drop in impact energy after 20 min. Processing on screw geometries with high compression ratios above 3.0:1 can generate excessive shear heating in the metering section, pushing melt temperature above 250 °C even when barrel setpoints remain at 230 °C.
Capillary rheometer data on comparable grades show that the entrance pressure loss at 1,000 s−1 is 0.8–1.2 MPa; this value is used to correct apparent viscosity. Below 100 s−1, the viscosity deviation between lots becomes significant, with a coefficient of variation up to 8% if regrind content is above 20%.
Mechanical response of ABS 707 is evaluated according to the standard tests shown in Table 1. The ranges represent typical values reported for a general-purpose high-flow ABS with an acrylonitrile content sufficient to resist aliphatic hydrocarbons and diluted acids. Aromatic hydrocarbons and methyl ethyl ketone cause environmental stress crazing under molded-in stress. The data are not a substitute for product-specific certificate of analysis values.

For parts with flow length-to-thickness ratios above 75:1, the lower melt viscosity of ABS 707 reduces filling pressure relative to a medium-flow general-purpose ABS. On a 1,200 kN hydraulic injection molding machine with a 2.5 mm diameter cold sprue and a 1.0 mm edge gate, short shots occur when first-stage injection speed falls below 30 cm³/s for a 0.8 mm nominal wall. Cavity pressure sensors placed near the end of flow typically register 35–50 MPa at switch-over, compared with 55–70 MPa for a medium-flow grade under identical tool geometry. This difference permits either a smaller clamp force reserve or a longer flow path for the same boundary conditions. Weld-line tensile strength remains the controlling mechanical limit. Published data for this specific configuration is limited, but general-purpose high-flow ABS grades with similar melt-flow index exhibit a 15–25% reduction in weld-line elongation at break when injection speed exceeds 120 mm/s at 230 °C. Gate blush and jetting are suppressed by using valve-gated hot runners and keeping gate land length below 1.5 mm.
On a single-screw extrusion line with a 90 mm screw and 30:1 L/D ratio, blending ABS 707 with color masterbatch at 2–4 wt% reduces melt viscosity sufficiently to cause surging if the front zone temperature is held above 230 °C. Pressure fluctuation at the die of ±0.5 MPa has been observed, with corresponding output variation of ±3%. Lowering the front zone temperature to 210 °C and increasing back pressure to 5 bar stabilizes output. The same line configuration is not recommended for reprocessing mixed-color regrind above 30%.
Moisture uptake in ABS 707 pellets follows the hygroscopic behavior of the acrylonitrile phase; storage in ambient air above 60% relative humidity increases equilibrium moisture to levels that generate splay and surface streaking. Pre-drying in a desiccant dryer with a dew point of −30 °C or lower is required. Recommended conditions are 80 °C for 2–4 h, resulting in residual moisture below 0.05%. Closed-loop hoppers purged with dry air are mandatory in humid production halls; open hoppers are a documented source of batch-to-batch surface defects. Regrind from sprues and runners can be incorporated up to 15% without measurable loss of tensile strength. Beyond 30% regrind, visible dark specks increase and notched Izod impact values decline by more than 10%. The material should not be blended with polypropylene, polyethylene, or acetal; contamination causes knit-line delamination and cannot be removed by process adjustment.
The principal difference between ABS 707 and high-impact ABS grades is the rubber-phase content and particle-size distribution. ABS 707 is formulated for lower melt viscosity and shorter cycle time, which trades away a portion of the notched Izod impact energy. It is not a direct substitute for a high-impact extrusion grade in applications requiring impact resistance below −20 °C. The product also differs from heat-resistant ABS grades in heat deflection temperature: ABS 707 remains below 100 °C at 1.8 MPa, while heat-resistant grades can exceed 105 °C. Electroplating grades have higher butadiene content and a narrower etch-adhesion window; ABS 707 is not optimized for chromic acid etch adhesion. Within the supplier’s range, a medium-flow general-purpose grade may show lower melt-flow index and slightly higher strength, but requires higher injection pressure and longer cycle time. Table 2 summarizes approximate property differences by generic class.

Incoming lots of Dongguan Dateng / Tengze ABS 707 require at minimum a melt-flow rate checkpoint per ISO 1133-1:2022 and an ash-content screen per ISO 3451-1:2019 when recycled content is present. Lot acceptance is based on the supplier’s certificate of analysis, with spot sampling at 1 lot per 20 t. Regulatory documentation includes European REACH SVHC candidate-list screening and RoHS 2011/65/EU Annex II heavy-metal limits for lead, cadmium, mercury, and hexavalent chromium. The grade is not UL yellow-card listed under the Tengze designation; when recognized flammability ratings are required for electrical enclosures, the molder must use a UL-recognized grade or obtain independent UL 94 testing. Published data for food-contact migration under FDA 21 CFR 177.1020 for this specific product is limited; the standard ABS migration limits apply only if the supplier demonstrates compliance. Addition of external mold-release agents above 0.2 wt% can reduce paint adhesion and should be avoided for parts requiring post-mold coating.
For enclosed electrical housings, outgassing of residual styrene and acrylonitrile is monitored by VDA 277. Published data for this specific Tengze grade is limited; comparable ABS materials typically release total volatile carbon below 50 µg/g after preconditioning at 80 °C for 24 h. The presence of non-virgin feedstock changes this value and must be controlled by lot-specific testing.
