Pre-drying of Dongguan Dahe ABS 87322 at 80°C for 3–4 h in a desiccant dryer to 0.02% residual moisture is mandatory before injection moulding automotive interior and exterior trim on accumulator-assisted hydraulic or hybrid clamp machines rated from 350 t to 650 t. A/B/C pillar trims, centre console carriers, door panel inserts, glove box outer covers, exterior mirror housings and wheel trim rings are typically moulded with ABS 87322 at 82–94 wt%, combined with an acrylonitrile-styrene copolymer colour masterbatch at 4–6 wt%, talc or calcium silicate mineral filler at 2–8 wt% where dimensional stability and lower thermal expansion are specified, ethylene bis-stearamide release agent at 0.3–0.6 wt%, and a hindered phenolic antioxidant at 0.2–0.4 wt%. The melt temperature window is 220–250°C, with mould temperature held at 40–70°C; on screws of 45–70 mm diameter with L/D ratios of 20:1–24:1 and compression ratios of 2.0:1–2.5:1, rear-to-nozzle barrel profiles are commonly set at 200/220/235/245/235°C. Holding pressure of 50–80 MPa and cooling time of 15–40 s are adjusted to the nominal wall thickness, which in this segment is generally 2.0–3.2 mm. Compliance for interior parts is assessed under 49 CFR § 571.302 (FMVSS 302), which prescribes a maximum burn rate of 80 mm/min, and under VDA 278:2011 for VOC and FOG emission behaviour; RoHS 2011/65/EU Annex II restricts lead, mercury, cadmium and hexavalent chromium in painted or plated exterior parts. For painted exterior mirror housings, cross-cut adhesion is evaluated to ISO 2409:2020 or ASTM D3359-23 Method B before UV exposure and thermal cycling from −40°C to 80°C.
Refrigerator door caps, washing machine fascia panels, vacuum cleaner housings, air conditioner front panels and appliance control box covers are moulded in ABS 87322 where higher heat resistance, gloss retention and resistance to kitchen-cleaning agents are required over high-impact polystyrene. Typical formulation for these rigid enclosures uses ABS 87322 at 90–96 wt%, a pre-dispersed white or light-colour masterbatch at 3–6 wt%, an migratory antistatic package at 0.5–1.5 wt% and a styrene-acrylic processing aid at 0.5–2.0 wt%; no external lubricant is added where hot stamping or in-mould labelling is performed because surface residue reduces adhesion. Injection moulding is performed on hydraulic or servo-driven toggle machines with melt temperature 210–245°C, mould temperature 45–65°C, sequential valve-gate hot runner drops between 2 and 8, and holding pressure of 60–90 MPa. For a 2.5 mm nominal wall, in-mould cooling time is controlled at 20–35 s to balance sink marks at rib intersections against cycle-time waste. The relevant compliance framework includes IEC 60335-1:2020 Clause 30.2 ball-pressure heat resistance at 75°C, IEC 60695-2-11:2021 glow-wire testing at 650°C for unattended appliance housings, UL 94 HB flammability classification, and EU RoHS 2011/65/EU Annex II restricted-substance verification. Processor caution is required with amine-based antistatic masterbatches, which can discolour ABS 87322 during hold-ups above 5 min at melt temperatures above 235°C.
Because IEC 62368-1:2023 Clause 6.3 evaluates resistance to ignition and spread of fire in audio/video and information technology equipment enclosures, ABS 87322 is compounded into flame-retardant moulding compounds for power strip shells, router housings, AC adapter enclosures, wall switch plates and distribution box covers. The brominated flame-retardant formulation envelope for this segment uses ABS 87322 at 82–86 wt%, brominated epoxy flame retardant at 10–12 wt%, antimony trioxide synergist at 3–5 wt%, a heat stabiliser package at 0.4–0.8 wt%, and an acrylic processing aid at 0.5–1.5 wt%. Halogen-free versions replace the brominated epoxy and antimony trioxide with an aryl phosphate ester at 14–18 wt%, with ABS 87322 reduced to 78–84 wt%, but these compounds require lower upper barrel temperatures because phosphate esters plasticise the melt and lower viscosity. Injection moulding of flame-retardant ABS 87322 compounds is run at melt temperatures of 210–235°C, mould temperatures of 40–60°C, clamp force of 5–7 kN/cm² of projected area, and screw backpressure of 0.5–1.0 MPa to prevent unmelt and colour streaking in thin-wall bosses. Residence time above 5 min is avoided because brominated systems release acidic species under excessive shear and halogen-free systems tend toward yellowing. Compliance is verified under UL 94 V-0 or V-1 at 1.5–3.0 mm, IEC 62368-1:2023, IEC 60695-2-11 glow-wire ignition at 750°C for unattended equipment, and RoHS 2011/65/EU Annex II. The table below summarises the two formulation envelopes and their validation standards.

The substitution evaluation changes when drop-impact behaviour at low temperature and heat deflection under load are primary design requirements, because ABS 87322 is introduced into polycarbonate as a 15–30 wt% blend component rather than as the neat matrix. The blending formulation for power tool clamshells combines bisphenol-A polycarbonate at 70–85 wt%, ABS 87322 at 15–30 wt%, a phosphite antioxidant at 0.2–0.5 wt%, a pentaerythritol tetrastearate release agent at 0.3–0.6 wt%, and where pigment addition is required a PC-compatible colour masterbatch at 2–4 wt%. Compounding is conducted on a co-rotating twin-screw extruder with L/D 40:1, screw speed 400–600 rpm, barrel profile 230–260°C, and vacuum degassing at −0.08 MPa to remove moisture and devolatilisation products. The compounded pellets are then injection moulded at melt temperatures of 250–280°C, mould temperatures of 70–90°C, and clamp force of 5–8 kN/cm² to fill thin rib sections without jetting. Finished parts include angle grinder housings, drill/driver clamshells, circular saw motor covers and cordless tool battery covers. Compliance is assessed under EN 62841-1:2015 Clause 17 temperature rise limits, Clause 21 mechanical strength after drop exposure, UL 94 V-1 or V-0 at 1.5 mm, ASTM D256-23 notched Izod impact at −20°C, and RoHS 2011/65/EU Annex II. Published data for this specific ABS 87322 configuration in PC/ABS blends is limited; therefore final part validation should include ASTM D648 heat deflection temperature at 1.82 MPa and ASTM D3763-22 high-speed puncture energy, because ABS 87322 reduces the PC heat deflection temperature and solvent resistance compared with unmodified polycarbonate.
Single-screw extrusion of ABS 87322 for non-pressure drainage, waste and vent pipe and electrical non-metallic conduit uses the base resin at 94–98 wt%, an acrylic processing aid at 1–3 wt%, carbon black or titanium dioxide pigment at 1–3 wt%, calcium stearate external lubricant at 0.2–0.8 wt%, and a hindered phenolic antioxidant at 0.2–0.5 wt%. The pipe extrusion line is configured with a single-screw extruder of L/D 30:1, barrel profile 160–195°C, die temperature 180–200°C, vacuum calibration tank, and puller speed matched to the melt strength of the ABS 87322 grade to avoid drawdown wall-thickness variation. Injection-moulded DWV fittings are produced from the same compound at melt temperature 210–240°C, mould temperature 40–60°C, and holding pressure 40–70 MPa; solvent-cement joining of fabricated pipe and fittings is performed according to ASTM D2235-22. Terminal product types include 1½ in to 4 in ABS DWV pipe, drainage fittings such as elbows and tees, electrical conduit and cable duct profiles. Compliance for DWV products is anchored to ASTM D2661-21 and where required to EN 1451-1:2017 for fire behaviour in building drainage; electrical conduit is specified under IEC 61386-1 and IEC 61386-21 for non-metallic conduit systems. This grade is not represented as suitable for pressurised potable water service unless the finished pipe and fittings are independently certified to NSF/ANSI 14 and NSF/ANSI 61.
Pre-coloured ABS 87322 compounds destined for toy components and hobby model parts are formulated at 88–96 wt% base resin, 3–6 wt% pigment masterbatch, 0.2–0.6 wt% internal lubricant, and 0.2–0.4 wt% antioxidant, with no phthalate plasticiser and no heavy-metal pigment system. Injection moulding is performed at melt temperature 210–240°C, mould temperature 45–65°C, and a polished cavity finish of SPI A-2 or finer to maintain high-gloss surface appearance on building block components, model kit sprues, doll furniture, and toddler toy housings. Dehumidifying drying at 80°C for 3 h to 0.02% moisture is required before processing because moisture absorption at relative humidity above 60% produces splay and silver streaking visible on unpainted toy surfaces. Tooling is vented along the parting line and inside deep bosses to reduce styrene off-gassing and prevent burn marks during fast injection speeds of 100–250 mm/s. Compliance is determined on the finished article under EN 71-3:2019+A1:2021 migration limits for 19 elements, ASTM F963-23 Clause 4.3.5 heavy-metal substrate limits, Directive 2009/48/EC toy safety requirements, and REACH Annex XVII phthalate restrictions. This application is excluded from food-contact and mouthing-toy use unless the specific ABS 87322 formulation, masterbatch, and final article are certified under the applicable food-contact or migration legislation for the destination market.
For hard-shell luggage shells and equipment cases, ABS 87322 is processed as extruded sheet and then thermoformed, rather than direct injection moulded. The sheet extrusion formulation uses ABS 87322 at 88–95 wt%, a UV stabiliser package at 0.3–0.8 wt%, pigment masterbatch at 3–6 wt%, a styrene-acrylic processing aid at 0.5–2.0 wt%, and an antioxidant at 0.2–0.4 wt%; black sheet may replace part of the pigment masterbatch with carbon black at 1–2 wt%. Extrusion is run on a sheet line with a flexible lip die of 1.2–2.0 m width, melt temperature 210–240°C, and polished roll stack temperatures of 70–90°C to control sheet thickness between 1.5 mm and 4.0 mm and to prevent internal orientation that causes warpage during reheating. Thermoforming is performed at 170–200°C sheet surface temperature with plug-assisted air pressure of 0.4–0.8 MPa; aluminum tooling must be temperature-controlled at 60–80°C to maintain corner thickness in deep-draw luggage shells. Terminal products are hard-shell luggage shells, protective equipment cases, transit cases, and interior lid shells. Compliance is assessed under ASTM D256-23 notched Izod impact at −20°C, ASTM D638-22 tensile yield and tensile elongation, ASTM D790-17 flexural modulus, and REACH Annex XVII restricted-substance requirements; weathering and colour retention for coloured shells are evaluated under ISO 105-A02:1993 grey-scale rating after accelerated exposure.

Dongguan Dahe ABS 87322 is a general-purpose acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene resin supplied as cylindrical pellets. The grade belongs to the Dahe ABS 87xxx series and is formulated around a styrene-acrylonitrile matrix with a discrete butadiene rubber phase. The 87322 designation is the supplier’s internal model code and does not, by itself, encode a public filler or additive specification. Supplier technical literature positions the material for injection moulding and sheet extrusion where an intermediate melt-flow range, controlled shrinkage, and notched impact retention are required. Published datasheets for this specific grade remain limited; the representative data presented below are drawn from supplier technical literature for the 87322 model and from the corresponding general-purpose ABS class, and should be superseded by the lot-specific certificate of analysis before production qualification.
Injection moulding of Dongguan Dahe ABS 87322 is governed by the melt residence-time window rather than by barrel setpoint alone. The supplier’s nominal melt mass-flow rate of 18–24 g/10 min under ISO 1133-1:2022 at 220 °C/10 kg places the grade in the intermediate-flow category; it is not a high-flow thin-wall ABS with MFR values above 35 g/10 min. Barrel temperature settings from the rear zone to the nozzle are typically 200–210 °C, 220–235 °C, 230–240 °C, and 230–240 °C. The mould temperature should be held at 40–80 °C, with a practical production setting of 60 °C for dimensional stability and surface replication. Melt temperature should not exceed 250 °C. When melt temperature exceeds 250 °C or hold-up time exceeds 5 min, the butadiene phase undergoes thermal-oxidative degradation, producing brown streaks, loss of notched impact, and a shift in yellowness index. Hot-runner systems should be balanced to avoid dead zones and should be operated with manifold and tip temperatures not more than 10 °C above the nozzle set-point. Injection speed is maintained at low-to-moderate linear velocities to avoid jetting; back pressure is set between 5–10 bar and screw decompression at 3–5 mm to prevent material drool at the nozzle. On hydraulic machines of 80–120 t clamp force with general-purpose screws of 20:1–22:1 L/D, the observed melt temperature deviation across zones can reach +5 °C when regrind exceeds 30 wt%; therefore regrind fractions above 30 wt% require re-qualification of the processing window.
Before melt processing, pellet moisture content must be reduced to <0.05 wt%. A desiccant dryer with a dew point not higher than -30 °C is used; at relative humidity above 60%, the dew point should be -40 °C or lower. Drying at 80 °C for 2–4 h is specified for sealed packaging. Resin exposed to plant air for more than 2 h at relative humidity above 60% should be re-dried before processing. Hopper dryers alone are insufficient in high-humidity production environments because the residence time in the hopper does not reliably remove surface moisture. Drying at temperatures above 95 °C or for more than 6 h can initiate yellowing and additive migration. Regrind streams should be dried under the same conditions as virgin pellets; if regrind content exceeds 30 wt%, impact testing under ISO 180/A should be performed on the first production run to establish the retained Izod notched impact. Moisture-related defects in ABS 87322 appear as splay, silver streaking, and occasional delamination at weld lines; these defects are not corrected by increasing melt temperature.
Table 1 lists representative values for Dongguan Dahe ABS 87322 from supplier technical literature. These values are not release limits and may vary with colour, regrind content, and compounding lot. The designated test methods are given alongside each property; for dispute resolution, the supplier’s certificate of analysis controls.

Divergence from flame-retardant ABS grades is primarily additive-related. Dongguan Dahe ABS 87322 is not formulated with brominated flame retardants or antimony trioxide synergists; therefore it does not carry a UL 94 V-0 classification and typically falls under UL 94 HB at 1.5 mm and 3.0 mm. In comparison, a halogenated flame-retardant ABS of equivalent base viscosity may exhibit density of 1.17–1.20 g/cm³, a higher melt temperature sensitivity, and a tendency to form plate-out on mould surfaces from flame-retardant decomposition products. The absence of these additives in ABS 87322 reduces tool-surface fouling and permits a wider colouration window, but removes the possibility of V-0 documentation unless a separate flame-retardant compound is selected.
Compared with glass-fibre-reinforced ABS grades, ABS 87322 shows a flexural modulus of 2,200–2,600 MPa under ISO 178:2019, whereas short-glass ABS grades commonly exceed 5,000 MPa at 20 wt% fibre loading. The unfilled grade exhibits substantially lower machine and tool wear; it also avoids the anisotropic shrinkage and warpage associated with high-fibre orientation. However, the glass-filled material is superior where structural stiffness and dimensional stability under load are controlling.
Against high-flow ABS grades with MFR above 35 g/10 min, ABS 87322 is less suited to very thin-wall parts below 0.8 mm nominal wall thickness. It retains better weld-line impact because the higher melt viscosity reduces the degree of weld-line molecular orientation and filler separation in complex multi-gate tools. The grade is not a direct substitute for high-heat ABS with HDT values above 100 °C or for ASA/acrylic-modified styrenics specified for outdoor UV exposure.
Published application-case data for ABS 87322 are limited. Supplier documentation positions the grade for general injection moulded housings, electrical enclosures, appliance control-panel surrounds, office equipment covers, and industrial guards where the required wall thickness is not below 0.8 mm and where notched impact requirements do not exceed 26 kJ/m². Extrusion applications include thermoformable sheet for non-food packaging trays and transport trays; however, published data for thermoforming window and sheet extrusion screw design for this specific configuration are limited, and the grade should be evaluated on a sheet line with a barrier screw of 30:1–33:1 L/D and a melt pump if thickness tolerance below ±0.05 mm is required.
The material should not be specified for continuous outdoor exposure without UV stabilization. Contact with ketones, esters, chlorinated hydrocarbons, and strong oxidizing acids can produce environmental stress cracking. Adhesive bonding with methyl ethyl ketone or methylene chloride is not recommended; mechanical fastening or ultrasonic welding is preferred. The grade is not supplied with a food-contact declaration; if the finished article is intended for food-contact use, migration testing under EU 10/2011 or compliance with FDA 21 CFR 177.1020 must be completed on the final formulation and pigment package.
Table 2 summarizes the documentation status commonly required for ABS 87322. Each item is lot-specific or formulation-specific and must be confirmed through the supplier’s extended technical data package.
| Requirement | Standard or regulation | Status or condition |
|---|---|---|
| Restriction of hazardous substances | EU RoHS Recast 2011/65/EU and (EU) 2015/863 | Supplier declaration required |
| REACH SVHC content | Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006, Article 33 | Not automatically supplied; request SVHC statement |
| Flame rating | UL 94 at 1.5 mm and 3.0 mm | Nominal HB classification |
| Food contact | FDA 21 CFR 177.1020 / EU 10/2011 | No supplier certificate for this grade |
