Application of Dongguan Anshuyi ABS X200-1

In injection-molded lower pillar trim and seat side garnish, the limiting defect is not impact crack initiation but visible knit-line blush at tool surface temperatures below 45 °C. Dongguan Anshuyi ABS X200-1 is dry-blended with 0.3 phr hindered phenolic stabilizer and 0.5 phr ethylene bis-stearamide lubricant before injection molding; carbon black masterbatch is added at 1–2 wt% for Class B surface camouflage only when grain depth exceeds 30 µm. The material is dried at 80 °C for 3 h to a moisture content below 0.05 wt%, measured by Karl Fischer titration. Barrel temperature profile is 220/230/235/240 °C from feed to nozzle, with a screw of 20:1 L/D and a back pressure of 0.5–1.0 MPa to avoid splay. Tool surface temperature is held at 50–60 °C; below 45 °C, flow lines become visible on dark grain textures. On production-scale machines with clamp force from 1,800–3,500 kN and a 40–60 mm diameter screw, cycle times for 2.0 mm nominal wall are 45–60 s with cold runners; hot-runner valve gates shorten this to 35–45 s but require melt residence time below 5 min to avoid yellowing. Flame compliance is tested according to FMVSS 302 or ISO 3795, requiring a burn rate not exceeding 100 mm/min for interior trim. Emissions are screened according to VDA 277 with a target total carbon emission below 50 µg C/g; published data for this specific X200-1 formulation is limited, so pre-production headspace testing is required. Terminal components include B-pillar lower trim, seat side shields, and seatbelt cover shells.

Where Does ABS X200-1 Sit Under Glow-Wire Ignition at 650 °C in Low-Voltage Switchgear?

Electrical enclosures molded from ABS X200-1 are limited to low-voltage functional insulation when the wall thickness exceeds 1.5 mm. The base resin is typically expected to comply with UL 94 HB at 3.0 mm; published data for this specific grade is limited, and the mill certificate should confirm the exact classification. If V-0 is required, brominated epoxy oligomer is introduced at 18–22 wt% with antimony trioxide at 4–6 wt%, which reduces melt flow and requires a melt temperature increase of 10–15 °C. Drying is 85 °C for 4 h to below 0.05% moisture. Injection molding uses a 25:1 L/D screw with a low-shear check ring, melt 230–245 °C, mold 50–70 °C, and packing pressure 60–80 MPa for thin-wall bosses. Glow-wire testing per IEC 60695-2-11 at 650 °C may show flame persistence on unreinforced ABS; for glow-wire ignition temperature above 750 °C, a mineral-filled or dedicated FR grade is normally substituted. Creepage and clearance dimensions in terminal blocks follow IEC 60664-1; comparative tracking index for unfilled ABS is typically PLC 3 under UL 746A. Restricted substances are controlled under RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU Annex II; brominated FR content must be declared under REACH if present above 0.1% w/w. Terminal parts are DIN-rail enclosure bases, relay covers, and low-voltage switch face plates.

High-gloss vacuum cleaner dust-cup housings and air-purifier back covers require a mold cavity polish of SPI/SPE A-2 or better; below this level, surface gloss at 60° falls below 80 GU on black parts, and the defect is amplified by weld lines. ABS X200-1 is pre-dried at 80 °C for 3–4 h to below 0.05 wt% moisture. The formulation for white and pastel shades uses 2–4 wt% titanium dioxide masterbatch and 0.2 wt% zinc stearate; for dark shades, carbon black masterbatch is limited to 1 wt% to avoid plate-out. Melt temperature is set to 220–235 °C, mold temperature to 55–75 °C; higher mold temperatures improve gloss but extend cooling time by 12–18% on 2.5 mm nominal wall. Ball pressure test per IEC 60335-1 clause 30.1 requires no impression diameter greater than 2 mm after 1 h at 75 °C for external enclosures of hand-held appliances. Chemical resistance is screened according to ASTM D543; stress-whitening may occur at contact points with cyanoacrylate adhesives, and repeated exposure to ketone-based cleaning agents is not recommended. Terminal applications are cyclone dust cups, motor housings for small blowers, and control panel bezels.

Drainage Pipe Extrusion, Hydrostatic Design Basis, and Solvent Cement Compatibility

Non-pressure drainage pipe from ABS X200-1 is processed on a 30:1 L/D single-screw extruder with a screen pack of 60/100/60 mesh and a melt pump to limit surging below ±1.5%. The dry blend contains 1.5–2.5 phr carbon black masterbatch, 0.5–1.0 phr acrylic processing aid, and 0.2–0.4 phr calcium stearate; no chlorinated paraffin is used where this would raise volatile content. Barrel temperatures are profiled 170/180/190/195/200 °C from feed to die, and die temperature is 185–195 °C. Melt temperature measured at the adapter is held below 210 °C to avoid yellowing. Vacuum sizing tank water is maintained at 25–35 °C with −20 kPa to −35 kPa vacuum. Pipe dimensions and tolerances are checked according to ASTM D2661; the grade should not be assigned a hydrostatic design basis unless long-term pressure testing under ISO 15493 is completed for the specific fitting configuration. Solvent cement joints are qualified using ASTM D2235; because ABS solvent cement contains methyl ethyl ketone or tetrahydrofuran, joint strength depends on interference fit of 0.05–0.10 mm and cure time above 24 h at 23 °C. Terminal products include DWV pipe, drain traps, and wall-outlet fittings.

When ABS X200-1 Sheet Reheats Above 160 °C in Vacuum Forming, Sag Depth Controls Wall Thickness Distribution

Hard-shell luggage and transit-case shells are extruded from ABS X200-1 as 2.0–4.0 mm sheet through a 90 mm single-screw extruder with a 30:1 L/D screw and a polished three-roll stack set at 75–90 °C. The formulation includes 1–3 wt% color masterbatch, 0.2–0.5 wt% UV stabilizer package containing a benzotriazole absorber, and 0.1–0.3 wt% antioxidant. Drying is required at 80 °C for 4 h before extrusion; residual moisture above 0.05% produces pinholes along the sheet edges. In vacuum forming, sheet surface temperature is brought to 150–170 °C; reheating above 170 °C accelerates sag and produces corner thinning below 40% of nominal wall. Plug speed is set to 150–200 mm/s, and mold vacuum reaches −70 kPa within 1.5 s to avoid webbing. Tooling is aluminum with temperature-controlled zones at 60–80 °C. Falling-dart puncture resistance is characterized by ISO 6603-2; failure mode shifts from ductile to brittle when sheet stock temperature falls below 15 °C. Substances of concern are managed under REACH Annex XVII and RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU; published data for X200-1 in twin-sheet thermoformed luggage is limited, so first-article burst and hinge-cycle testing are necessary. Terminal outputs are suitcase front and back shells, tool cases, and drone transit cases.

Adhesion loss occurs at current densities above 4 A/dm².

Electroplated ABS X200-1 components are processed first by injection molding with a high-gloss mold surface and no external mold release, because silicone residues reduce chromium adhesion. Pre-drying is 80 °C for 3 h; melt temperature is 220–240 °C; mold temperature is 50–60 °C. The molding step uses packing pressure 60–80 MPa and a 20:1 L/D screw. After molding, parts are etched in a chromic acid bath at 350–400 g/L CrO₃ and 350–400 g/L H₂SO₄, held at 60–65 °C for 10–15 min to remove butadiene domains and create mechanical anchoring sites. Neutralization with 20–30 mL/L reducing agent is followed by activation with palladium-tin colloid, then electroless nickel or copper at 0.3–0.5 µm. Acid copper build-up of 15–25 µm is followed by semi-bright nickel 10–15 µm and bright nickel 5–10 µm; chromium flash is 0.2–0.5 µm. Total current density is maintained at 2–4 A/dm² in nickel tanks; above 4 A/dm², edge burning and internal stress reduce peel strength. Adhesion is tested by ASTM B571 thermal cycling from −30 °C to 80 °C, with no blistering after 4 cycles. Terminal components are automotive radiator grilles, exterior door handle caps, and decorative trim strips. Published data for X200-1 as a plating-grade substrate is limited; a chemical roughening trial and peel-strength measurement according to ASTM B533 are required before production release.

    Certification & Compliance
    More Introduction

Dongguan Anshuyi ABS X200-1 is identified as an acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene melt-processable resin grade. The grade identifier X200-1 is a manufacturer-specific code; it does not by itself encode melt mass-flow rate, notched impact strength, Vicat softening point, or flammability classification. Published data for this specific configuration is limited. Incoming lots should therefore be controlled against the supplier certificate of analysis and lot-specific test records, not against generic ABS grade tabulations.

In the absence of a certificate of analysis, incoming inspection should establish a baseline using the standard test set in the following matrix. Residual moisture is the first parameter to measure because moisture from storage or transport affects melt-flow stability, surface appearance, and impact performance. A single melt-flow result is insufficient for lot acceptance; duplicate determinations at the beginning, middle, and end of the lot are required to detect segregation and moisture drift.

If the Dongguan Anshuyi ABS X200-1 melt mass-flow rate falls outside the supplier-approved band, the processing window should be adjusted only after drying is confirmed and the measurement is repeated. A flow-rate shift greater than 10% relative to the CoA may indicate resin lot intermixing, moisture uptake, or contamination. The lot should not be blended into production inventory until this shift is resolved.

What processing boundaries are required to protect the polybutadiene phase?

Melt processing of unfilled ABS requires strict control of temperature history because the polybutadiene phase begins thermo-oxidative degradation above 260 °C under atmospheric oxygen. At melt temperatures above 250 °C, residence time should be limited to 5 min maximum. For Dongguan Anshuyi ABS X200-1, the barrel settings should be tuned after measuring the melt mass-flow rate by ISO 1133-1 at 220 °C/10 kg. A starting profile for a medium-flow general-purpose ABS is rear 190–210 °C, center 210–230 °C, front 220–240 °C, and nozzle 230–250 °C. If the measured melt-flow rate is below 10 g/10 min, the upper end of this range may be required to avoid unmelted butadiene-rich domains. If the melt-flow rate exceeds 30 g/10 min, the barrel set points should be reduced to prevent screw slip and feed-zone melting.

The clamp force requirement is calculated from projected part area and cavity pressure. For ABS, cavity pressure typically falls between 300 bar and 500 bar. A part with a projected area of 200 cm² would therefore require a machine with 60–100 metric tons clamp force. Injection speed must be limited so that shear heating does not push the actual melt temperature above 250 °C. On machines fitted with a 40 mm screw, a screw surface speed of 0.1–0.3 m/s is a practical starting point, but the speed should be reduced if visible gate blush, streaking, or delamination appears.

Mold wall temperature is a critical boundary for surface finish and impact retention. General-purpose ABS tolerates 40–80 °C mold temperatures. Lower mold temperatures shorten cycle time but reduce surface gloss and can freeze orientation before relaxation, reducing notched impact. Mold temperatures above 80 °C extend cooling time and can produce sink marks in thick sections. For polished surfaces, hot runner manifold temperatures should not exceed 240 °C, and the nozzle tip should be held 5–10 °C above the front zone to avoid cold slugging.

Shot size control is an often overlooked degradation variable. The shot volume should occupy 40–70% of barrel capacity. If the shot volume falls below 20%, residence time can exceed 5 min and cause yellowing, black specks, and low Charpy impact. If the shot exceeds 80%, melt homogenization becomes insufficient and unmelted polybutadiene domains may appear as surface pits and impact scatter. Melt cushion should be maintained at 4–6 mm on a 1200 kN reciprocating-screw machine to reduce shot-to-shot variation.

Back pressure for a general-purpose ABS grade should be set between 0.5 MPa and 1.5 MPa. Excessive back pressure raises melt temperature and consumes screw recovery time; insufficient back pressure produces density variation and trapped gas. Screw recovery should complete within the cooling time. If the screw recovery time exceeds the cooling time, the process is limited by screw speed, and the barrel rear temperature or screw design should be reviewed.

Drying dew point, regrind fraction, and melt inventory control

Residual moisture in ABS vaporizes during plastication and produces surface splay, internal voids, and reduced Charpy impact due to localized hydrolysis at melt temperatures. Dongguan Anshuyi ABS X200-1 should be dried to below 0.2% moisture before processing. If ambient relative humidity exceeds 60%, pre-drying is mandatory even for sealed bags. Desiccant-dryer conditions of 80 °C for 2–4 h, with a dew point below -20 °C, are typical for unfilled ABS. Overdrying longer than 5 h is not recommended because volatile processing aids can migrate and alter surface appearance.

Regrind addition is limited to 20–30 wt% for non-appearance structural parts. For high-gloss surfaces or thin-wall housings, the regrind fraction should not exceed 10 wt%. Batch-to-batch variation in regrind particle size changes bulk density and feed behavior in a gravimetric hopper. Production experience on a 36:1 L/D single-screw extruder has shown that dust and fines above 1 wt% can cause screw slip and erratic melt pressure.

Injection-molding applications for Dongguan Anshuyi ABS X200-1 may include appliance fascia, power-tool housings, and thin-wall electronic enclosures if the lot-specific notched impact and melt-flow rate satisfy the part requirements. Extrusion of flat sheet and profiles may be feasible; sheet line operators should set the three-roll stack temperature to 80–100 °C for ABS and maintain a die lip gap 10–15% above final sheet thickness. Without extensional viscosity data for X200-1, deep-draw thermoforming trials should begin with sheet temperature near 140–170 °C and be adjusted according to infrared pyrometer readings.

Material substitution reviews for Dongguan Anshuyi ABS X200-1 should compare the candidate lot against the incumbent material on melt-flow rate, tensile yield stress, Charpy notched impact at 23 °C and -30 °C, Vicat softening temperature, and deflection temperature under load at 0.45 MPa. A single-pellet melt-flow check cannot detect segregation or contamination; the melt-flow test should be repeated at the start, middle, and end of the lot.

Material class Characterization basis Substitution limitation Governing standard
Dongguan Anshuyi ABS X200-1 Supplier CoA; public data limited No substitution without lot-specific MFR, impact, and thermal data ISO 1133-1, ISO 179-1/1eA, ISO 306
Heat-resistant ABS Vicat B50 often 105–115 °C; HDT/B 95–105 °C Do not substitute X200-1 above 85 °C continuous service unless CoA shows equivalent Vicat and HDT ISO 306/B50, ISO 75-2/B
Flame-retardant ABS UL 94 V-0 at 1.5 mm typical X200-1 is not documented as flame-retardant; no V-0 claim is supported without independent testing UL 94, IEC 60695-11-10
PC/ABS blend Higher low-temperature Charpy impact; higher melt viscosity X200-1 may not meet -30 °C impact requirements or high-heat enclosure requirements ISO 179-1/1eA at -30 °C, ISO 306

Compared with heat-resistant ABS grades, X200-1 does not automatically carry Vicat B50 values above 105 °C. Heat-resistant ABS grades are often formulated with increased acrylonitrile content or imide-modified copolymers and may show Vicat B50 of 105–115 °C and HDT/B of 95–105 °C. Unless the X200-1 certificate of analysis reports equivalent values, the material should not be used for painted interior trim parts that pass through 85 °C or higher paint-bake cycles.

Compared with flame-retardant ABS grades, Dongguan Anshuyi ABS X200-1 is not documented as carrying a UL 94 V-0 listing. Flame-retardant ABS compounds obtain V-0 at 1.5 mm thickness through halogenated or phosphorus-based systems; these additives reduce impact strength and increase density. Substitution into electrical enclosures requiring IEC 60695-11-10 glow-wire ignition or UL 94 V-0 is not supported without independent testing.

Compared with PC/ABS blends, unfilled ABS X200-1 is unlikely to match low-temperature ductility. PC/ABS blends can maintain Charpy notched impact above 30 kJ/m² at -30 °C, while many general-purpose ABS grades exhibit brittle failure below -20 °C. Unless the certificate of analysis reports sub-zero impact data, X200-1 should not be substituted in automotive interior structural parts with -30 °C impact requirements.

For applications requiring sustained service beyond 85 °C or a listed flame class, Dongguan Anshuyi ABS X200-1 should not be substituted without incoming grade-specific data demonstrating ISO 306/B50 or IEC 60695-11-10 compliance. Published data for this specific configuration is limited, and the conditions given above are reference conditions for unfilled general-purpose ABS, not guaranteed values for X200-1. The supplier certificate of analysis and first-article qualification remain the controlling documents.
