The trade designation Dongguan Anshuyi ABS 346A-PCFR Nature identifies a natural-colour ABS-based engineering resin supplied under the Dongguan Anshuyi trade name. The suffix PCFR is not an ISO or ASTM resin classification; in supplier and trader documentation it is frequently read as a polycarbonate-modified flame-retardant descriptor, although the exact polycarbonate content, flame-retardant system, and recycled fraction cannot be derived from the alphanumeric string alone. If that interpretation is confirmed by the supplier lot certificate, the processing and testing boundaries below apply; if the suffix instead denotes a recycled-content stream, additional migration and volatiles testing is required. Published technical data for this specific configuration are limited; therefore, quantitative values presented here are comparator ranges for the nearest publicly documented ABS/PC FR natural compounds, not lot-specific guarantees. The descriptor Nature denotes an uncoloured base resin, which reduces pigment-related interference in flame-retardant testing but makes thermal and hydrolytic degradation products visible as yellowing or brown streaks.
The model code 346A functions as an internal viscosity or formulation identifier rather than a standardized melt-flow rating. Release documentation should therefore include the melt volume-flow rate determined under ISO 1133-1:2022 at 260 °C/5.0 kg, density under ISO 1183-1:2019, ash content under ISO 3451-1:2019, and moisture content under ISO 15512:2019. Without these four values, incoming resin cannot be assigned to an existing processing window with confidence. This is particularly relevant for a flame-retardant ABS/PC material because lot-to-lot shifts in FR loading, polycarbonate content, or rubber-phase morphology can move both viscosity and thermal stability enough to create surface defects in thin-wall electrical housings.
Before committing an injection moulding line to ABS 346A-PCFR Nature, the following release package should be obtained and compared against the internal production specification. The comparator ranges in the table are based on the general class of natural PC-modified flame-retardant ABS and are not a substitute for the supplier’s certificate of analysis.

| Heat deflection temperature at 1.80 MPa | ISO 75-2:2013/Af | 90–110 °C |

| Yellowness index, natural plaque 2 mm | ASTM E313-20 | Supplier control limit, typically <15 for unexposed natural resin |
The V-0 expectation is not a material property independent of part geometry. Flame-retardant performance is thickness-dependent, and natural grades may require higher FR loading than black grades to reach the same afterburn time because carbon black is absent. Moulded plaques should therefore be tested at the thinnest wall section of the actual part, not at a standard 3.2 mm plaque if the production wall is 1.2–1.5 mm. The yellowness index should be measured on a conditioned plaque after 40 h at 23 °C/50% RH per ISO 291:2008, rather than immediately after demoulding, because post-crystallisation and moisture uptake shift the visible colour of natural FR resins.
Drying and melt processing define the practical quality limit for natural-colour PC-modified FR ABS. A desiccant dryer with supply-air dew point no higher than -35 °C, inlet air temperature of 80–100 °C, and drying time of 3–4 h is the standard pre-treatment envelope for this material class; the dried moisture target is <0.02 wt% under ISO 15512:2019. Over-drying above 100 °C for more than 6 h can pre-oxidise the butadiene phase and intensify yellowing of the natural base colour. If the dried granulate is transferred through an open hopper in a plant with relative humidity above 60%, moisture regain can exceed the target within 30–45 min; therefore an insulated closed feed throat, hopper dryer, or desiccant-bed hopper should be used rather than an ambient open hopper.
Melt rheology should be mapped with a capillary rheometer according to ISO 11443:2021 before setting production parameters, because a single melt volume-flow point does not capture shear-thinning behaviour in the injection-moulding shear-rate range near 1000 s⁻¹. Typical melt-temperature bands for PC-modified FR ABS fall between 235 °C and 265 °C; continuous exposure above 275 °C for more than 5 min total residence time increases the probability of FR decomposition, acid generation, and mould deposit. Barrel temperatures from feed to nozzle should be profiled so that the melt reaches the upper band only in the final two zones. Screw geometry with an L/D of 20:1 to 24:1 and a compression ratio of 2.2:1 to 2.8:1 is typical for this class; screws with compression ratios above 3.0:1 or aggressive barrier sections can create local melt temperatures 10–20 °C above the barrel set point, producing silver streaks and brown degradation lines in an unfilled natural FR resin.
Injection parameters are tool-specific, but for a 1.2–1.5 mm wall-thickness electrical enclosure the fill time is commonly in the range of 0.8–1.5 s, with hydraulic pack pressure between 35 MPa and 55 MPa. Mould temperature should be controlled between 55 °C and 80 °C with a turbulent-flow water or oil unit; surface temperatures below 50 °C can freeze the skin before full packing, increasing sink marks and weld-line visibility. Parting-line vent depth should be 0.02–0.03 mm, with land length 1–2 mm and channel depth 0.5–1.0 mm open to atmosphere. Inadequate venting in an FR grade turns the end-of-fill area yellow-brown, and the defect is more visible against the Nature base colour than in black or dark grey grades.
If a hot-runner system is used, manifold and nozzle temperatures should be held between 245 °C and 265 °C with no more than ±3 °C variation across nozzles. Externally heated manifolds with insulated gate tips are preferred over internally heated torpedoes because they reduce dead-zone residence time and local overheating at the shut-off needle. Sequential valve-gate control should be verified with short shots to ensure that no gate block remains part-filled; a part-filled gate can expose stagnant melt to repeated heat cycles and generate amber streaks that appear only in natural or translucent grades.
Production-scale validation should record screw recovery time, actual melt cushion, and cycle time across at least 50 consecutive shots. If shot-to-shot cushion variation exceeds 1.5 mm on a 25 mm screw, the check-ring or screw wear should be corrected before assessing resin quality. A worn check ring creates short residence-time heterogeneity that appears as occasional brown streaks or unmelts in natural FR parts and is often misattributed to resin lot variation.
Substitution of unmodified ABS with a PC-modified flame-retardant ABS changes the mechanical and thermal response before tool transfer. Unmodified ABS typically shows heat deflection temperature under 1.80 MPa in the range of 75–95 °C by ISO 75-2:2013/Af, while a PC-modified FR grade may shift this value upward by 10–25 K. Tensile modulus can rise by 10–30%, and notched impact at 23 °C may remain comparable or increase, but low-temperature impact at -30 °C can be lower because the matrix is stiffer. In a natural colour, unmodified ABS appears water-white to light yellow, whereas PC-modified FR natural grades show a deeper translucent to amber cast, especially above 3 mm wall thickness. Colour acceptance should therefore be based on instrumental readings after conditioning at 23 °C/50% RH for 40 h per ISO 291:2008, using a d/8 spectrophotometer with 10° observer, rather than visual inspection under shop-floor lighting.
The increase in rigidity also affects mould design. Core drafting that is adequate for unmodified ABS at 0.5° may be marginal for a higher-modulus FR resin at the same shrinkage. If the supplier data show a higher modulus, vertical walls should be checked for drag marks and ejection stress. Moulding shrinkage can be measured after 48 h post-moulding according to ISO 294-4:2018; PC-modified FR ABS often shrinks 0.4–0.7% along flow and 0.5–0.8% transverse, with more anisotropy than unmodified ABS. These values should not be applied directly to ABS 346A-PCFR Nature without a moulded test plaque because FR fillers and polycarbonate content shift absolute shrinkage and directional balance.
Compared with halogenated FR ABS, a PC-modified FR grade of the type suggested by the PCFR designation typically offers higher heat resistance and higher stiffness but may require higher melt temperature. Halogenated FR ABS can show density near 1.17–1.23 g/cm³, while PC-modified FR ABS often occupies 1.12–1.20 g/cm³; the two classes therefore cannot be switched on a fixed part weight without rechecking specific gravity under ISO 1183-1:2019. Against a generic unfilled PC/ABS blend, the flame-retardant grade usually trades 5–15% of room-temperature notched impact for shorter afterburn time in a UL 94 vertical burn test; the exact trade is thickness-dependent and lot-dependent.
Potential use cases for Dongguan Anshuyi ABS 346A-PCFR Nature are injection-moulded electrical enclosures, power adapter shells, power strip bases, small appliance control boxes, and internal frames where a flame-retardant rating is specified at 1.5 mm or thinner. In these parts, gate location should be arranged so that weld lines do not coincide with screw bosses, snap-fit hooks, or living hinges subjected to assembly stress. If a weld line cannot be eliminated, melt temperature at the nozzle can be raised by 5–10 °C and injection velocity reduced by 10–20% to promote flow-front re-entanglement. Weld-line strength should then be checked by flexural testing or tensile testing on a plaque with a butt weld line under ISO 527-2:2012, because a neat plaque value does not predict weld-line performance.
Rib-to-wall ratio should be held below 0.6:1 for a natural flame-retardant material because thick ribs create sink marks and colour variation at the opposing surface. Wall-thickness transitions should be gradual, with a radius of at least 0.5 mm at sharp corners; abrupt transitions can produce different post-moulding shrinkage and visible stress whitening. If ultrasonic welding is specified near a visible surface, trial parts should be checked for local colour shift at the joint because PC-modified FR ABS can generate local interface heating above 120 °C during welding, which may be sufficient to alter the natural colour in thin sections.
Regrind from ABS 346A-PCFR Nature can be reintroduced at 15–20 wt% in non-cosmetic applications if the material has been dried and the granulator is dedicated. In natural cosmetic parts, regrind should be limited to 5–10 wt% or eliminated because multiple thermal histories shift yellowness index and reduce notched impact. Yellowness index should be measured on injection-moulded plaques with ASTM E313-20, not on pellets or granulate.
Do not blend with unmodified ABS unless flammability dilution is acceptable for the end use. A 10 wt% addition of standard ABS can reduce the flame-retardant reserve and change the UL 94 classification at thin wall, even if the blend is visually homogeneous. Avoid wet regrind, mixed-colour post-industrial scrap, and contact with acetal or unplasticised PVC residues; degradation products from these polymers can contaminate a halogen-sensitive flame-retardant package and create odour or mould deposit. Do not add amine-based antistatic masterbatches or unapproved colorant dispersions without compatibility testing, because basic additives can react with acidic decomposition products generated from some flame-retardant systems during extended melt residence. When purging, a low-viscosity HDPE or PP purge compound is preferable; acetal-containing or PVC-containing purges should not be used immediately before processing this resin class.
Storage of unopened bags below 30 °C and below 60% RH is a typical warehouse boundary for this resin class. If bags are opened in humid southern China plant conditions above 80% RH, drying time should be extended and the material should be processed within a single shift; otherwise moisture regain at the feed throat can produce surface splay that is immediately visible on the natural surface. Because published data for this specific Dongguan Anshuyi configuration is limited, first-article approval should compare the supplier lot CoA, moulded plaque flammability at the intended wall thickness, and CIELAB colour values against the released part standard.
