Application of Dongguan Anshuyi ABS 320A

Low-voltage electrical junction boxes and switch mounting frames are among the most volume-stable downstream conversions for Dongguan Anshuyi ABS 320A. Pre-drying is the first critical step: a desiccant hopper dryer is held at 80 °C for 2–4 h to reduce residual moisture to below 0.05 wt%. Retained water hydrolyses a fraction of the nitrile component during screw plastication and produces silver streaking on untextured surfaces. Melt temperature is set between 220 °C and 250 °C. The exact value is taken from the supplier certificate of analysis. Grade-specific lot-to-lot variation in the stabiliser package can shift the thermal degradation onset by 5–10 °C. Back pressure is maintained at 5–10 bar. Screw recovery is timed to avoid total residence time longer than 5 min at the upper melt limit. Above that limit, butadiene-rich domains show visible discolouration and notched impact energy falls by more than 15% under ISO 179-1:2020. Mould temperature is held between 50 °C and 70 °C. If the fixed-half mould surface drops below 40 °C, retained polymer chain orientation at the gate freezes before relaxation. This produces anisotropic shrinkage and reduces Charpy notched impact in weld-line areas by approximately 20–30% compared with non-weld zones. For enclosures with wall thickness of 1.5–3.0 mm, medium-to-fast injection speed is required to maintain a short fill time and avoid premature stagnation of the flow front. Venting at blind boss features must be machined to 0.02–0.03 mm depth. Inadequate venting increases gas burn marks and lowers dielectric surface quality. The table below lists the compliance instruments applied to general-purpose ABS enclosures in unchanged form, provided the grade meets the limiting values in the corresponding material data sheet.

No independent peer-reviewed data on this exact commercial designation is available. The limiting values must therefore be read from the batch certificate before an enclosure is submitted for third-party certification.

What Restricts Low-Temperature Impact in ABS 320A Interior Trim?

Automotive lower trim parts such as centre console side covers and rear quarter-panel inner trims are produced from Dongguan Anshuyi ABS 320A when the maximum continuous service temperature does not exceed 75–85 °C in interior air. The technical gate is low-temperature ductility, not heat resistance. In production-scale injection moulding of 2.0–2.5 mm wall cowl-side trim, high-speed multiaxial impact tests under ISO 6603-2:2000 show that the energy absorption at -30 °C can drop to less than 40% of the 23 °C value. This is a known butadiene-phase glass transition effect. The rubber phase in standard ABS stiffens sharply below -40 °C. Ribbing, gate location, and melt-temperature history are the only practical ways to preserve part-level impact performance. Weld lines generated by obstruction bosses must be placed away from occupant-contact sweep zones. A weld-line Charpy notched value is typically 30–50% lower than the gate-area value under ISO 179-1:2020. The material is dried at 80 °C for 2–4 h. Melt temperature is set at 230–250 °C. Mould temperature is set at 50–60 °C. Packing pressure of 60–80 MPa compensates linear mould shrinkage of 0.4–0.7%. Post-mould annealing at 70 °C for 1 h can be applied. Published data for this specific configuration is limited. Annealing must be validated against dimensional stability targets. Chemical contact with mineral oils, plasticiser-containing PVC skins, or amine-cured adhesives must be avoided. These agents migrate into the butadiene domains and cause environmental stress cracking along ejection-pin stress risers.

When Thin-Wall ABS 320A Frames Replace PC/ABS in Handheld Device Housings

Handheld instrument and data-logger shells with wall thickness of 1.0–1.4 mm are feasible only if the melt volume-flow rate of the ABS 320A lot is confirmed at the upper end of the general-purpose ABS range under ISO 1133-1:2022, typically above 15 cm³/10 min at 220 °C/10 kg. If the lot falls below that band, short shots appear at the far edge of the snap-fit retention rib. A high-flow ABS of this type is run on an electric injection moulding machine with clamp force calculated from projected area and cavity pressure of 35–45 MPa. For a two-cavity cold-runner tool with a projected area of 120 cm², a 100–120 t clamp is normally sufficient. The main process conflict is the interaction between thin-wall shear heating and butadiene degradation. When injection speed is raised to fill the shell in less than 0.4 s, local melt temperature at the gate can exceed the set barrel temperature by 15–25 °C because of viscous dissipation. This excursion is acceptable at a set melt of 235 °C. At 250 °C the same shear excursion can push the material past its degradation onset and produce charred streaks at the sub-gate. The tool should be vented to 0.015–0.02 mm. Mould temperature is held at 45–60 °C. Dimensional control under ISO 294-4 must be checked with a shrink plate. Thin-wall ABS parts can show post-mould shrinkage over 24 h of 0.2–0.5%. For tensile snap-fit arms, the design strain should not exceed 1.5% at 23 °C if the material is not impact-modified. Cyclic engagement below 0 °C can cause cracking at the gate. No UL V-0 claim is made unless the specific batch is flame-retarded.

Deep-draw thermoforming stock from Dongguan Anshuyi ABS 320A is extruded as single-sheet or coextruded capstock for appliance and sanitary panels. The extrusion line is typically a vented single-screw extruder with screw L/D of 30:1, a barrier-type screw, and a screen changer with 80–120 mesh stainless steel screen for removal of gel particles. Barrel zones are profiled from 180 °C at the feed throat to 220–240 °C at the metering zone. Die temperature is held at 220–230 °C to reduce die streaks. The sheet is polished on a three-roll stack with roll temperatures of 70–90 °C. Rapid quenching below 60 °C entrains residual stress and can produce sheet warpage after demoulding. Sheet thickness from 0.8 mm to 6.0 mm is common. Gauge variation is controlled to ±5% by haul-off speed adjustment. Thermoforming of the sheet is carried out at a surface temperature of 140–175 °C. The stretch ratio must not exceed 3:1 in single-stage negative forming from a flat sheet. Above this ratio, wall thickness at the corners becomes less than 25% of the original sheet and the part fails under vacuum or pressure forming. On a shuttle thermoformer, the plug assist is heated to 100–110 °C. The sheet is formed with a polished aluminium tool at 70–80 °C. The production failure mode is not cracking but local whitening at sharp radii. This occurs when forming speed is reduced and the sheet cools below the lower forming limit. Published data for this exact commercial grade in deep-draw thermoforming is limited. The forming window must be mapped against the batch melt flow and sheet surface temperature using a pilot stretcher.

Detergent-Induced Environmental Stress Cracking Thresholds in Washing Machine Consoles

Dongguan Anshuyi ABS 320A is used in washing machine facias and detergent drawer fronts where low-cost appearance and balanced impact are rated over sustained solvent resistance. The chromed or painted console substrate is exposed to anionic surfactants, nonionic ethoxylates, and occasional spillage of liquid bleach. Environmental stress cracking, not bulk dissolution, governs service life. The standard test is ISO 22088-3:2006 method A under constant load. Bending strain is set at 0.5–1.0%. The immersion medium is deionised water at 23 °C with 5 wt% linear alkylbenzene sulfonate. Under these conditions, injection-moulded ABS 320A consoles with high surface gloss and sharp internal corners can develop micro-crazes in less than 72 h if tool radii are below 0.5 mm. The main process levers are not solvent-resistant additives but stress-relief annealing and part design. Annealing at 65–70 °C for 1 h after moulding reduces internal orientation. It can extend craze initiation time by a factor of 2–3. Gate placement should orient flow lines parallel with the long axis of the facia, not transverse to it. Transverse molecular orientation acts as a diffusion path for the detergent. Metal core inserts must be preheated to 60 °C to prevent a cold skin layer that concentrates stress. Painting or vacuum metallising the front surface is not a barrier. The solvent travels through paint-film pinholes and attacks the ABS substrate. The material is incompatible with ketones, esters, and chlorinated solvents. Even small amounts of methyl ethyl ketone in cleaning agents can cause immediate surface attack. For certification, the component is evaluated under IEC 60335-1 for insulation clearance and under ISO 4892-2 method A for lightfastness. The detergent ESC test remains the decisive in-house test.

Chromic-Sulphuric Etch Conditions Dictate Plating Adhesion on ABS 320A Frames

Electroplated ABS badges, grille surrounds, and decorative door handles use the same Dongguan Anshuyi ABS 320A base resin but require a radically different surface preparation. The process begins with an alkaline soak cleaner at 50–55 °C for 5–10 min to remove mould-release residues. Surface etching is performed in a chromic-sulphuric bath containing 350–400 g/L chromium trioxide and 380–420 g/L sulphuric acid at 65–70 °C for 8–15 min. The etch oxidises the butadiene-rich domains selectively and creates micro-cavities with a depth of 0.3–0.6 μm. Etch depth below 0.2 μm gives poor mechanical anchoring and peel failure above 1 N/cm in tape adhesion tests. After etching, the parts are neutralised in a reducing rinse of 20–30 g/L sodium bisulphite at 25 °C for 2 min. Plating adhesion is governed by neutralisation completeness. Residual hexavalent chromium bleeds into the electroless nickel and causes skip plating at the edges. The pre-plate sequence is palladium-tin activation, acceleration, electroless nickel of 5–10 μm, bright acid copper of 20–25 μm, semi-bright nickel 10–15 μm, bright nickel 5–10 μm, and decorative chromium 0.25–0.5 μm. The copper layer is the stress-absorbing ductile layer. If bright acid copper is below 20 μm, thermal cycling from -40 °C to 85 °C causes microcracking at the ABS/copper interface. The linear thermal expansion of ABS is approximately 8–10 × 10⁻⁵ K⁻¹; copper is 1.7 × 10⁻⁵ K⁻¹. Moulded-in stress from the injection process is the primary hidden variable. A part with high gate stress after moulding will fail the plating adhesion test even when the etch and plating sequence is within specification. Therefore the moulding operation for plated ABS 320A uses slow injection speed, low packing pressure at 30–40 MPa, and mould temperature of 60 °C to minimise orientation. Etched surface roughness is checked under ISO 4287:1997 with an Ra target of 0.2–0.5 μm. The use of chromium trioxide in plating lines is subject to REACH Annex XIV authorisation. No ABS grade change removes that downstream obligation. Published data for this specific commercial grade in decorative chromium plating is limited. Pilot plating is required before production.

Filament production for fused deposition modelling is a smaller-volume conversion for ABS 320A. The resin is pre-dried to below 0.02 wt% moisture, extruded on a single-screw extruder at 190–210 °C through a 1.75 mm or 2.85 mm die, hauled through a water bath at 40–50 °C, and wound under closed-loop diameter control with a tolerance of ±0.05 mm. The main production defect is ovality from non-uniform haul-off tension. A multi-axis laser gauge is required. No independent published data for this exact grade in filament form is available, but this conversion is established for general-purpose ABS.

    Certification & Compliance
    More Introduction

Dongguan Anshuyi ABS 320A is supplied as a general-purpose acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene pellet for injection molding and, in selected lower-flow lots, for profile or sheet extrusion. The suffix 320A is a supplier trade designation and does not by itself convey an ISO 2580-1 classification; a complete designation requires digit pairs for impact, melt flow, and heat resistance that must be taken from the certificate of analysis. The grade is positioned for medium-flow, general-purpose molding rather than heat-resistant, flame-retardant, or electroplating-specific service. Published technical data for this specific configuration is limited; the class-average ranges in the table below are provided only as preliminary screening filters and must not be used as a substitute for lot-specific specifications.

Why Drying and Melt Residence Time Control the Molding Window

Moisture control is the first processing constraint for Dongguan Anshuyi ABS 320A. ABS is not a condensation polymer, but surface and matrix moisture generate splay, silver streaking, weld-line weakness, and gloss variation in injection-molded parts. Production-scale drying with a desiccant dryer is recommended at 80 °C for 2–4 h, with a drying-air dew point no higher than -30 °C. Target pellet moisture before molding is ≤0.05%; moisture values above 0.08% frequently produce visible silver streaking in parts of wall thickness 1.5–3.0 mm. A hopper dryer without desiccant is insufficient in ambient relative humidity above 60%. If the material has been exposed to humid air for more than 8 h, drying should be repeated before the next molding run.

Barrel temperature settings on a general-purpose injection machine with screw L/D 20:1–24:1 and compression ratio 2.0:1–2.5:1 are typically rear 190–210 °C, middle 210–230 °C, front 220–240 °C, and nozzle 230–250 °C. Mold temperature is maintained at 40–70 °C; the higher half of this range improves knit-line strength and surface gloss but increases cooling time. Injection pressure 70–140 MPa is common, and back pressure is held at 0.5–1.5 MPa. These ranges are class-typical values for general-purpose ABS rather than lot-specific parameters for Dongguan Anshuyi ABS 320A.

Thermal degradation becomes visible as yellowing at melt temperatures above 260 °C when residence time exceeds 10–15 min. The operational boundary is therefore a maximum melt temperature of 250 °C for standard cycles. If thin-wall molding requires 255–260 °C, the residence time should be limited to 5 min and shot size should be at least 40% of barrel capacity to avoid excessive shear heating. After an interruption, the barrel should be purged with a general-purpose ABS or styrenic purge compound before restart. In production-scale trials, gloss reduction and brown specking are the most common failure modes when this boundary is crossed. The material should not remain in a hot idle barrel for more than 20 min, and barrel temperature should be reduced to 180–200 °C during short stoppages.

Incoming lot release should verify melt volume-flow rate and notched impact on dry-molded specimens. A common sequence uses ISO 1133-1 at 220 °C with 10 kg and ISO 179-1/1eA at 23 °C. If the melt volume-flow rate is below 8 cm³/10 min, thin-wall filling below 1.0 mm should not be attempted without mold-flow simulation and fast-injection capability. If the notched impact value falls below 10 kJ/m², the material should not be used for snap-fit clips or cold-temperature enclosures.

Color and additive packages also require control because batch-to-batch variance can be visible on textured surfaces. Optical drift is measured with a spectrophotometer using CIELAB ΔE*; lot-to-lot ΔE* above 0.5 may be unacceptable in untextured surfaces, while textured automotive or appliance surfaces often tolerate ΔE* 1.0 only with explicit customer approval. Mold release agents and external lubricants can reduce paint and adhesive wetting. If post-mold decoration is planned, mold release use should be eliminated or replaced with internal lubricants at the compounding level.

When the Grade Is Compared with Heat-Resistant, Flame-Retardant, and Electroplating ABS

Dongguan Anshuyi ABS 320A is positioned as a general-purpose grade. It should not be specified where continuous service under load exceeds 60 °C unless the part is stress-relieved and the load is minimal. Heat-resistant ABS grades using α-methylstyrene can raise heat deflection temperature to 100–110 °C at 1.82 MPa by ISO 75-2/A, but they do so with reduced melt flow and higher processing temperature. Published data for the heat deflection performance of this specific product is limited; users should obtain lot-specific ISO 75-2/B values before substituting it into a heat-resistant application.

Flame-retardant ABS grades typically meet UL 94 V-0 at 1.5 mm or 3.0 mm. Dongguan Anshuyi ABS 320A is not classified as flame-retardant unless the lot certificate explicitly states a UL 94 rating. For electronic enclosures requiring V-0, selection of a dedicated flame-retardant grade is required. Regulatory compliance under RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU must be confirmed by the supplier; routine screening may use IEC 62321 sections for lead, mercury, cadmium, and hexavalent chromium. REACH obligations are managed under Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006, and a full material declaration should be requested for articles entering the EU market.

Electroplating grades are formulated with controlled butadiene rubber particle size and distribution because chromic acid etching selectively removes the rubber phase. General-purpose ABS can be electroplated only when the etch pattern and adhesion meet plate-grade requirements. If the product is not explicitly sold as electroplating ABS, plating trials should use ASTM B571-18 adhesion testing on representative parts. For adhesive joining, two-part acrylic and cyanoacrylate adhesives can generate environmental stress cracking in ABS under tensile strain; annealing at 80 °C for 2 h is recommended before bonding parts with high molded-in stress. ABS is not resistant to ketones, esters, aromatic hydrocarbons, or chlorinated solvents; any wipe or cleaning step should be restricted to aliphatic hydrocarbons or soap solution unless validated under ASTM D543 or equivalent chemical-resistance testing.

Thermal Aging and Outdoor Exposure Boundaries Without Added Stabilizers

Thermal aging in hot air reduces impact strength and causes progressive yellowing. For general-purpose ABS, continuous hot-air exposure above 60–70 °C can produce measurable notched impact loss within several hundred hours; published data for this specific product is limited, and no long-term aging claim should be made without lot-specific testing. If the application requires heat aging validation, test specimens should be exposed according to ISO 4577 or ASTM D3045 and then evaluated for impact retention by ISO 179-1/1eA. Molded-in stress accelerates thermal yellowing and stress cracking, so aggressive gate geometries and undersized runners should be avoided.

Direct outdoor exposure is a boundary condition. General-purpose ABS without UV-stabilizer packages yellows and embrittles under sunlight; the degradation is surface-initiated and affects gloss, color, and impact. Dongguan Anshuyi ABS 320A should not be used for exposed exterior parts unless the lot certificate demonstrates UV-stabilized formulation or the part is painted, plated, or covered by an ASA or PMMA capstock. For weatherable outdoor profiles, ASA or compounded UV-stabilized ABS is the appropriate substitution route. If temporary outdoor storage of packaged parts occurs, ultraviolet exposure should be limited to the period specified by the customer; no universal shelf-life should be assumed.

Sheet and profile extrusion require lower melt temperature and adequate melt strength. Dongguan Anshuyi ABS 320A may be extruded only if the lot MVR is below the upper limit specified by the processor; general-purpose injection grades with MVR above 25 cm³/10 min often show low melt strength and die drool. A single-screw extruder with L/D 24:1–30:1 and a barrier screw is preferred; barrel temperatures are 180–230 °C and die temperature is 220–240 °C. Published data for this product in extrusion is limited, so die-lip adjustment and haul-off speed should be established experimentally on the production line.

Regulatory Incoming Inspection and OEM Compliance Matrix

For OEM acceptance, incoming inspection should include identity, melt flow, moisture, notched impact, and color. Melt volume-flow rate is tested under ISO 1133-1:2022, density under ISO 1183-1:2019, tensile properties under ISO 527-2:2012, flexural properties under ISO 178:2019, and notched Charpy impact under ISO 179-1:2023. Moisture content is measured by ISO 15512:2019 or an equivalent Karl Fischer method. Incoming lot sampling should follow ISO 2859-1 with an acceptance quality limit appropriate to the part class; AQL 0.65 is common for critical mechanical properties, while AQL 1.0 may be used for color and general appearance. These quality levels are commercial screening choices rather than product-specific requirements.

The grade must be handled as a thermoplastic with limited chemical resistance. Avoid combination with ketones, esters, aromatic hydrocarbons, and chlorinated solvents during cleaning or bonding operations. Contact with certain plasticizers, mold releases, or amine-containing additives can cause surface haze or stress cracking; no additive should be introduced without production-scale trial validation. Storage should be in dry, sealed containers at 15–35 °C, away from direct sunlight and heat sources above 40 °C. If the material is stored for more than 12 months, remelt stability and color should be rechecked before production use.
