Application of Chongqing Kejufu PC/ABS FRH06

Does UL 94 V-0 at 1.5 mm Survive Regrind Reintroduction in AC Charging Wallbox Enclosures?

For AC charging wallbox enclosure production, Chongqing Kejufu PC/ABS FRH06 is evaluated against IEC 61851-1 and UL 2594 for insulating housing components. A two-cavity wallbox shell tool with projected area 450 cm² and 2.0 mm nominal wall is run on a 380 t hydraulic machine. Dehumidifying predrying at 80°C for 4 h with a dew point of -40°C reduces pellet moisture to <0.02%. Barrel settings from feed to nozzle are 230°C, 240°C, 250°C, 255°C; mould temperature is 70°C. Injection pressure reaches 85 MPa with fill time 1.8 s, holding pressure 55 MPa, and cooling time 22 s. Regrind is limited to 20 wt%. Repeated regrind through desiccant drying can reduce phosphorus-based flame-retardant efficacy at 1.5 mm, so UL 94 V-0 must be re-verified on first-pass and third-pass regrind. Weld lines at snap-fit bosses shift to load-bearing areas if gate position is moved more than 8 mm, causing boss cracking during assembly. Terminal products include Mode 3 AC wallbox housings and charging plug retainers.

In automotive instrument panel lower carrier and HVAC housing applications, the melt rheology of Chongqing Kejufu PC/ABS FRH06 introduces a processing window that differs from flame-retardant ABS on the same 2400 t moulding line. Shot-to-shot melt viscosity stability is maintained by predrying at 80°C for 4 h, while the PC phase requires a mould-surface temperature above 70°C to avoid cold-slug delamination at gates and jetting marks on visible surfaces. Screw backpressure is held at 0.8 MPa and screw speed at 60 m/min to preserve flame-retardant dispersion without over-shearing the PC phase. The typical regrind fraction for visible interior parts is 15 wt%. Higher regrind fractions above 20 wt% have been associated with silver streaking when reclaimed pellets contain moisture above 0.03%. Gate sequencing for a two-cavity lower carrier tool uses melt front divergence angles below 45° to keep weld lines away from airbag deployment zones. Terminal finished parts include instrument panel lower carriers, climate control housings, and centre console side supports. Odour and emissions are controlled to VDA 270 limit ≤3, ISO 3795 horizontal burn rate below 100 mm/min, and DIN 75201 fogging condensate below 2 mg.

When the Grade Replaces Flame-Retardant ABS in Thin-Wall USB-C Adapter Shell Production

Substitution into a 65 W gallium nitride charger shell tool with 1.0 mm nominal wall alters the injection pressure requirement. The Chongqing Kejufu PC/ABS FRH06 melt exhibits higher zero-shear viscosity than a 10 g/10 min FR ABS at 260°C, shifting injection pressure by 10–15% on a 120 t electric moulding machine. Screw boss ruptures at weld lines are the dominant failure mode at boss outer diameter 3.2 mm and hole diameter 2.0 mm when clamp force is below 140 t. Mould cooling uses 80°C water for dimensional stability, but high shear thin-wall filling can raise melt front temperature inside 1.0 mm ribs above 280°C, producing yellowing and polymer degradation. The process window is melt temperature 250–265°C, mould 70–80°C, fill time below 0.8 s, and holding pressure 70–80 MPa. Flame-retardant certification under UL 94 is validated at 1.5 mm; sub-1.0 mm claims require independent Yellow Card verification because published data for this specific configuration is limited. Terminal products include USB-C power delivery charger shells, mains plug blade holders, and cable strain relief collars under IEC 62368-1.

Across outdoor small-cell radio shroud and surge protection enclosure programmes, the unpainted ultraviolet performance of PC/ABS FRH06 must be verified before deployment. The base PC/ABS may not carry an outdoor f1 listing under UL 746C unless a UV-stabilised variant is specified. Published data for this specific configuration is limited. Moulded enclosure covers for IP65 rating per IEC 60529 require perimeter gasket grooves with dimensional tolerance ±0.05 mm, and flame-retardant additives must not migrate to sealing surfaces during 85°C/85% RH ageing. Screw inserts are installed using heat-stake equipment with tip temperature 320°C and dwell time 3 s. Low-temperature impact performance is evaluated by ISO 180/1A at -30°C. Terminal parts include 5G small-cell internal chassis, AC surge protection housings, and outdoor telecommunication accessory enclosures.

Power Tool Clamshell Housings Under Glow Wire 850°C and Ball Pressure 125°C

In double-insulated power tool clamshell production, Chongqing Kejufu PC/ABS FRH06 is processed on 180 t hydraulic machines with accumulator-assisted injection. Glow wire testing is performed to IEC 60695-2-11 at 850°C for parts surrounding live terminals. Ball pressure testing is performed to IEC 60695-10-2 at 125°C. Draft angles on rib features are held at 0.75° minimum to reduce ejection stress. The clamshell tool uses two hot-tip gates and sequential valve opening with 0.4 s delay to displace weld lines away from the gearbox mounting ring. Thermodynamic mould surface differential must remain within ±5°C across the cavity to prevent warpage exceeding 0.3 mm over a 180 mm housing length. Regrind use is limited to 15 wt% for drop-impact-critical housings because repeated granulation reduces notched impact. Terminal products include angle grinder two-shell housings, drill motor clamshells, and reciprocating saw front covers tested to IEC 60068-2-31 drop procedures.

Replacing ABS+PVC in DIN Rail Relay Housings with Halogen-Free FR PC/ABS

DIN rail relay housings and logic-controller enclosure bases are moulded from Chongqing Kejufu PC/ABS FRH06 to replace ABS+PVC because PVC carries halogen content restrictions under IEC 61249-2-21 and REACH. The moulded part snaps onto 35 mm DIN rail per IEC 60715. Snap-fit retention force is verified after thermal cycling from -40°C to 85°C for 96 h. An 8-cavity hot runner valve-gated tool runs at cycle time 18–22 s for 2.0 mm wall thickness. Melt temperature is 255°C, mould temperature 75°C, holding pressure 50 MPa. Insulation coordination follows IEC 60664-1 with creepage distance verified on ribbed bases. Terminal products include DIN rail relay bases, industrial timer housings, and programmable logic controller terminal covers.

When diagnostic ultrasound cart enclosures are specified for IEC 60601-1 compliant systems, PC/ABS FRH06 is considered for non-patient-contact shells, display bezels, and cable management trays. Fire enclosure integrity is evaluated according to the end-product risk management file under IEC 60601-1 clause 11.3. Biocompatibility assessment is required through ISO 10993-5 if skin contact duration exceeds 30 days; published data for this specific configuration is limited and must not be assumed from general-purpose grades. Mould release agents containing silicone are avoided because they interfere with subsequent polyurethane topcoat adhesion on cart shells. Processing uses gas-counterpressure 0.3 MPa to prevent sink marks around boss arrays on 2.5 mm wall sections. Terminal products include diagnostic ultrasound cart covers, laboratory analyser front fascias, and non-patient-contact display enclosures.

    More Introduction

Chongqing Kejufu PC/ABS FRH06 is a flame-retardant polycarbonate/acrylonitrile–butadiene–styrene alloy supplied in pellet form for injection molding. The material is specified for electrical enclosures, power-distribution modules, and appliance housings where a UL 94 V-0 vertical burn classification at 1.5 mm nominal thickness is an acceptance criterion. The FRH06 model designation separates the grade from general-purpose PC/ABS, and the manufacturer’s product-line documentation identifies a halogen-free flame-retardant system; the exact phosphorus-based chemistry and CAS-level disclosure are limited to the safety data sheet and REACH communication. Because the grade-specific datasheet is not reproduced in this document, the numerical values cited below are representative ranges for halogen-free flame-retardant PC/ABS systems obtained from public industrial datasheets and from ISO, ASTM, and IEC test methods. Lot-specific values must be confirmed against the certificate of analysis for the FRH06 production batch.

The designation FRH06 denotes a flame-retarded PC/ABS alloy, not an unfilled blend

The base resin family is a polycarbonate/acrylonitrile–butadiene–styrene alloy. In unfilled PC/ABS, the continuous polycarbonate phase contributes ductility and heat resistance, while the styrene-acrylonitrile phase lowers melt viscosity and improves flowability. The inclusion of a flame-retardant package in FRH06 modifies the melt rheology and thermal ageing response. Data published for halogen-free FR PC/ABS grades show density values of 1.17–1.20 g/cm³ under ISO 1183-1:2019, compared with 1.13–1.15 g/cm³ for general-purpose PC/ABS. The flame-retardant additive is melt-compounded into the alloy and may act as a plasticizer at processing temperature while simultaneously lowering the Vicat softening temperature. Molecular weight retention at the molding machine is governed by residual moisture and barrel residence time; hydrolysis of the polycarbonate segment leads to chain scission, which appears as lower notched Izod impact and surface splay.

Combustion inhibition in halogen-free PC/ABS is frequently achieved with phosphorus-based esters such as bisphenol A bis(diphenyl phosphate) or resorcinol bis(diphenyl phosphate), which promote char formation in the polycarbonate phase and release phosphorus species into the gas phase. The FRH06 designation indicates a flame-retarded grade, but the exact phosphorus loading and any nitrogen synergist are not published in the present document. At total flame-retardant addition levels typical of 10–15 wt%, the melt becomes more temperature-sensitive, and the melt volume-flow rate at 260 °C/5 kg is generally observed between 15 and 25 cm³/10 min under ISO 1133-1:2022 for halogen-free FR PC/ABS. This flow range is relevant to thin-wall components of 1.2–2.0 mm nominal wall thickness. Representative tensile yield stress is 50–60 MPa under ISO 527-1:2019, flexural modulus is commonly 2300–2700 MPa under ISO 178:2019, and notched Izod impact at 23 °C is typically 35–55 kJ/m² under ISO 180:2023. The corresponding Vicat B50 value is commonly 105–115 °C under ISO 306:2022. These ranges locate FRH06 within the halogen-free FR PC/ABS class rather than in the unfilled PC/ABS class.

Why does pre-drying at 80 °C govern melt stability in FRH06?

Pre-drying in a desiccant dryer at 80 °C for 3–4 h is required before injection molding. The target residual moisture is below 0.02% by weight, and the dryer dew point should be maintained at or below -30 °C. At moisture levels above 0.05%, hydrolysis of the polycarbonate segment accelerates in the barrel, and the phosphorus-based flame retardant can generate acidic by-products that further degrade the molecular weight. Production-scale molding trials on similar flame-retardant PC/ABS grades have shown that excess moisture produces splay, weld-line weakness, and intermittent UL 94 V-0 failures in the gate region. Barrel temperature profiles are typically set from 230–250 °C in the rear zone to 240–260 °C in the center and 250–270 °C at the front, with nozzle temperature 250–270 °C. The melt-temperature upper limit is 280 °C, and total residence time should not exceed 5 min.

Injection pressure is generally 80–120 MPa, holding pressure 60–80 MPa, back pressure 0.5–1.5 MPa, and screw speed is kept near 40–80 min⁻¹ to limit shear heating. The shot volume should occupy 40–70% of the barrel capacity. These conditions are derived from processing guidelines for halogen-free flame-retardant PC/ABS and are not a substitute for FRH06 lot-specific processing data. Hot-runner systems with internal surface temperature above 280 °C are not recommended because the flame-retardant additive may degrade in stagnant zones. Mold design for FRH06 must account for higher melt viscosity at the gate. Hot-runner drops should be individually heated and thermally profiled to avoid stagnant zones above 260 °C. Cold runner diameters should not be below 4 mm for parts with flow length above 150 mm. Venting depth should be 0.02–0.03 mm to allow gas escape without flash.

When the mold surface remains below 60 °C, gloss and knit-line retention deteriorate

At mold temperatures below 60 °C, the flame-retarded alloy freezes before full packing occurs in regions around bosses, ribs, and snap-fit features. This condition produces lower gloss, visible flow lines, and reduced weld-line strength. In injection molding of FRH06, the recommended mold surface temperature range of 60–80 °C keeps the melt front mobile long enough to reduce frozen-in stress. At mold temperatures of 40–50 °C, the flame-retardant additive can migrate to the surface and create a waxy deposit at the venting areas, especially when fill times fall below 1 s. The gate size should be 50–70% of the nominal wall thickness, and the runner design should maintain a shear rate below 50 000 s⁻¹ to avoid local degradation. Mold sweating at 12–15 °C surface temperature must be avoided by adjusting cooling water temperature to the ambient dew point.

Thermal decomposition of the polycarbonate phase follows chain scission and hydrolysis mechanisms; the apparent activation energy for PC hydrolysis increases when the moisture content is elevated. In FRH06, the phosphorus-based flame retardant may hydrolyze to phosphoric acid, which catalyzes further chain scission. This explains why melt viscosity can drop sharply during prolonged residence even while impact properties decay; the melt may appear to flow well but the molded part will be brittle. Monitoring melt pressure stability and performing a notched Izod impact check after 5 min barrel residence is therefore a practical production control.

Halogen-free versus brominated flame-retardant chemistry in thin-wall enclosures

Replacement of a brominated FR package with a halogen-free phosphorus-based system changes the thermal stability, smoke profile, and rheology. Brominated grades often achieve UL 94 V-0 at lower additive loading and can retain higher notched Izod impact, but they may drop the comparative tracking index below 400 V under IEC 60112:2020. Halogen-free FR PC/ABS grades of the FRH06 type generally produce lower smoke density and often retain a comparative tracking index above 500 V, which is relevant in power-supply and e-mobility charging infrastructure. The trade-off is greater sensitivity to hydrolysis during molding and a higher tendency for deposit formation at the tool surface. Production-scale data from twin-screw extruders with L/D 40:1 indicate that halogen-free FR packages require tighter temperature control than brominated systems because the additive begins to volatilize or degrade between 270 and 290 °C. Die pressure can increase by 10–20% when FRH06-type material is run immediately after a low-viscosity PC/ABS grade; purging with a high-viscosity acrylic or PC-based purging compound is recommended before production.

In alternating-current charging stations, the polymer housing is subjected to internal heat from contact resistance, external ultraviolet exposure, and a requirement for electrical tracking resistance. Halogen-free FR PC/ABS grades are specified in these designs because a comparative tracking index above 500 V reduces the risk of surface carbonization under polluted conditions. FRH06 can be considered for charging-pile housings, socket covers, and power-distribution enclosures where thin-wall sections between 1.5 mm and 2.5 mm must pass UL 94 V-0. However, published data for this specific configuration is limited; application-specific weathering and long-term thermal ageing must be validated by the end user under ISO 4892-2:2013 and IEC 60216 where service life is declared. In appliance housings, the selected material must also meet glow-wire requirements under IEC 60695-2-11 when unshielded live parts are present.

Flame-retardant performance is assessed under UL 94 using conditioned specimens of 125 mm × 13 mm × 1.5 mm in the vertical configuration. Five specimens are tested, and a V-0 classification requires total afterflame time ≤ 50 s across all specimens, any single afterflame time ≤ 10 s, and no cotton ignition. FRH06 is positioned to meet V-0 at 1.5 mm; compliance at lower thicknesses such as 0.75 mm must be confirmed on the specific color and regrind content because pigments and regrind can alter flame-retardant performance. Published data for this specific configuration is limited at 0.75 mm.

Comparative property ranges for halogen-free FR PC/ABS, general-purpose PC/ABS, and brominated FR PC/ABS are given in Table 1. The values are compiled from publicly available commercial datasheets for similar flame-retardant systems and are not lot-specific guarantees for FRH06.

Electrical and electronic applications require documentation under the RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU Annex II, where lead, mercury, hexavalent chromium, PBB, and PBDE are limited to 0.1 wt% in homogeneous materials and cadmium to 0.01 wt%. Under REACH Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006, the manufacturer must communicate SVHC presence above 0.1 wt% under Article 33. Table 2 summarizes the standard compliance matrix. Grade PC/ABS FRH06 should be accompanied by a safety data sheet and REACH statement; the absence of these documents creates a supply-chain compliance risk.

Operational boundaries for FRH06 include sensitivity to high-humidity storage. If pellets are exposed to ambient air above 60% RH for more than 30–60 min, dryer residence time may need extension, and the feed hopper should be kept under dry-air purge. The material should not be combined with polyamide or acetal resins in the same barrel without purging; incompatibility can produce delamination and black specks. Regrind usage is typically restricted to 20–25% by weight for flame-retardant PC/ABS because repeated heat history reduces the flame-retardant synergist and lowers notched Izod impact. Processors should not exceed melt temperatures of 280 °C or residence times of 5 min. In high-humidity production environments, mold surface temperature must be kept above the ambient dew point to avoid condensation and flame-retardant surface migration.
