In high-gloss small-appliance enclosures—vacuum cleaner motor housings, rice cooker control panels, electric kettle lower shells, and hair dryer casings—CHIMEI Zhenjiang ABS PA-707K is conditioned in desiccant hopper dryers with a dew point at or below -30 °C for 2–4 h at 80 °C; residual moisture above 0.05 wt% generates silver streaks, splay, and surface haze during plastication. Typical injection molding uses a single-screw injection unit with a non-return check ring and a screw L/D ratio of 20:1 or 22:1. Barrel zones are set from 210 °C near the hopper through 230–250 °C at the nozzle, while melt temperature is maintained at 230–250 °C. Mould temperature is held at 50–70 °C because gloss replication on SPI A-2 or A-3 polished tooling degrades below 45 °C, producing a frozen skin that prevents cavity detail fill. Injection speed is set high enough to prevent premature solidification but low enough to avoid jetting from gates smaller than 1.0 mm. Hold pressure is applied until gate seal, commonly 5–8 MPa packing pressure depending on gate diameter. At wall sections of 2.0–3.5 mm, cooling time follows the square of wall thickness; demolding sink marks appear if holding time is shortened below gate seal. Parting-line vents of 0.02–0.03 mm depth prevent the diesel effect and gas burn marks during fast fill. End-product compliance for household appliances requires PA-707K to meet UL 94 HB at 1.5 mm, RoHS 2011/65/EU as amended, and REACH SVHC candidate list obligations. Flame-retardant enclosure requirements under IEC 60335-1 clause 30.2 may require V-0 grades beyond PA-707K. Regrind incorporation up to 20 wt% typically reduces notched Izod impact by 5–10%; above 30 wt%, melt-flow drift and brown streaks appear from repeated heat history.
Weld lines form where melt fronts converge at holes, ribs, and multi-gate layouts. In toy shells—building block containers, ride-on body panels, play food appliances—PA-707K has a reported ISO 180/1A notched Izod impact at 23 °C near 20 kJ/m², but weld-line zones can retain only 60–70% of bulk tensile strength as measured by ISO 527-2, depending on melt temperature and mould temperature. To maintain impact resistance in load-bearing play components, the mould temperature is kept at 40–60 °C; lower mould temperatures increase frozen orientation and deepen the V-notch at the weld line. Gates should be located away from snap-fit insertion points. Multi-gate tooling is redesigned to merge melt fronts at low-stress regions. Pigment masterbatches at 2–3 wt% are employed without phthalate plasticizers because ABS PA-707K contains no ortho-phthalate plasticizers; REACH Annex XVII entries 51 and 52 remain applicable to the masterbatch and any printed surface coating. Toy safety compliance for painted and unpainted components is assessed under EN 71-3:2019+A1:2021 migration limits for soluble elements, and under ASTM F963 for the US market. PA-707K is not intended as a food-contact toy unless the finished article is tested for overall migration under EU Regulation 10/2011. Processing residence time in the barrel is limited to 5–10 min; longer residence at 240 °C may generate degradation odour that complicates organoleptic testing.
At wall thicknesses below 1.2 mm, such as handheld enclosure clamshells, router housings, and power bank shells, PA-707K is selected for its melt mass-flow rate, typically reported at 22 g/10 min under ISO 1133-1:2022 at 220 °C/10 kg. Thin-wall filling requires injection speed of 120–200 mm/s, barrel temperatures 240–250 °C, and gate diameters of 0.8–1.5 mm to avoid freeze-off. Flow length-to-thickness ratio is limited to approximately 150:1 for PA-707K under a cavity pressure of 35–45 MPa; beyond this ratio, short shots occur even with high melt temperature. Mould temperature is set at 40–60 °C for cycle-time compression, but lower temperatures increase in-mould stress and reduce dimensional stability. Post-mould shrinkage measured to ISO 294-4 is 0.4–0.7%, with anisotropy between flow and transverse directions causing warpage in long flat panels. Hold pressure is profiled: 60–80 MPa initial, decaying to 40 MPa for gate seal. Vents of 0.02 mm depth on the parting line reduce gas burns. End-use housings rated UL 94 HB at 1.5 mm may require additional shielding if electromagnetic compatibility is required, because unfilled ABS is not conductive; metallization via electroless plating after chromic acid etching or conductive painting is used.
For printer and copier paper trays, monitor stand covers, and non-flame-rated internal chassis components, PA-707K is dried at 80 °C for 2–4 h and processed at melt temperatures 225–245 °C. Mould temperatures of 50–60 °C are typical. The flexural modulus of PA-707K, measured under ISO 178, is approximately 2300 MPa; this value supports screw boss retention and cover rigidity in office equipment when rib-to-wall thickness ratios are kept at 0.5–0.7. Thicker ribs produce sink marks on Class A surfaces. Boss design follows an outer diameter of 2.0–2.5 times screw root diameter, with a hole depth of 2.0–2.5 times screw diameter to reduce hoop stress. Moulded-in stress is relieved by annealing at 80 °C for 2 h when parts are exposed to low-molecular-weight esters from cleaning agents, because ABS stress cracking depends on the tensile stress in the surface layer. Long-term creep in office equipment is evaluated under ISO 899; published data for PA-707K under constant tensile load in this specific configuration are limited, so conservative load limits apply for load-bearing snap fits. The grade is not suitable for fire enclosure barriers requiring V-0 under IEC 62368-1 unless used behind a metallic or V-0 rated internal shroud. Compliance for electronics supporting components includes RoHS 2011/65/EU Annex II restricted substances and REACH SVHC screening.
PA-707K is used in lower interior trim—door pocket shells, seat side covers, console lower side panels—only where heat exposure remains below the heat deflection temperature of approximately 96 °C under ISO 75-2/A. Upper instrument panel and air vent components are outside the operational boundary because cabin surface temperatures can exceed 100 °C and PA-707K may soften. Grain replication on injection-moulded ABS follows mould surface texture depth; typical interior grained surfaces with Ra 5–10 µm and depth 50–120 µm require mould temperature of 60–70 °C. Lower mould temperatures produce gloss variance and washout at the grain boundary. Melt temperature is maintained at 230–250 °C. Volatile condensate generation is the main limitation: general-purpose ABS such as PA-707K may release residual styrene and acrylonitrile in enclosed cabins. Accepted low-emission specifications such as VDA 278 or VDA 270 are not automatically met; whether PA-707K passes depends on pigmentation, mould release selection, and drying history. For OEM interior applications, black neutral or trim-specific colors are compounded at the molding plant and tested for light stability under ISO 105-B06 if exposed to transmitted sunlight. Uncoated PA-707K is not recommended for direct sunlight upper trim because of UV-induced yellowing and gloss loss. Mechanical validation for interior side trim includes ISO 527-2 tensile yield around 44 MPa and ISO 180/1A impact at 20 kJ/m² at 23 °C, but multi-axial impact at cold temperatures requires part-level testing because notched Izod alone does not predict ductile-to-brittle transitions in complex ribs.

On production lines for toilet seat hinges, bath trap covers, and soap dispenser housings, PA-707K is processed at melt temperatures of 220–240 °C and mould temperatures of 40–60 °C. Water absorption measured under ISO 62 reaches approximately 0.3–0.5 wt% after 24 h immersion at 23 °C; this dimensional change is small but must be considered in close-clearance moving parts such as hinge pins. Chemical resistance is acceptable against dilute acids, alkalis, and alcohol-based household cleaners, but continuous contact with ketones, esters, chlorinated solvents, and aromatic hydrocarbons causes stress cracking in PA-707K. Molded-in stress from cold moulding intensifies environmental stress cracking; annealing at 80 °C for 2 h reduces surface tensile stress in thick sections. For toilet seat hinges, bosses are molded with a minimum 1.5× nominal wall thickness and the hinge pin bore is reamed after conditioning to avoid ovality. Because PA-707K is rated UL 94 HB at 1.5 mm, its use in public restroom enclosures may be restricted by local fire codes requiring V-0 for sanitary partitions. In drain trap covers exposed to intermittent hot water at 60–70 °C, the heat deflection temperature of 96 °C under ISO 75-2/A provides a margin, but hot chlorinated water above 70 °C may cause surface dulling and micro-cracking over repeated cycles. No separate food-contact grade claim is available for PA-707K; NSF/ANSI 51 approval is end-product specific.
Unfilled ABS such as PA-707K is used in switch plates, socket faceplates, and non-current-carrying electrical accessory housings where UL 94 HB at 1.5 mm is permitted by the end-product standard. The comparative tracking index of unfilled ABS is often reported near 600 V under IEC 60112, but published test data for PA-707K in switch plate configurations are limited; therefore surface contamination, carbonized dust, and humidity can reduce tracking resistance below the dry-material value. Moulding is carried out at melt temperatures 230–250 °C and mould temperature 50–70 °C to produce high-gloss show surfaces free from flow lines. Gate location is placed on the rear face or edge to avoid visible gate blush. Electrical accessory housings in Europe are evaluated under IEC 60669-1 for switches and IEC 60884-1 for socket outlets; PA-707K may be used only when the enclosure does not need to pass glow wire at 750 °C for unattended current-carrying parts. Where IEC 60695-2-11 glow wire testing at 650 °C is specified for small non-current-carrying parts, thickness and color affect performance. The grade should not be used for circuit breaker covers, terminal shrouds, or other parts requiring V-0 or 5VA classification. Drying is mandatory: moisture above 0.05 wt% causes splay at the high melt temperatures required for thin front plates. Screw bosses for socket faceplate mounting are designed with outer diameter 2.0× screw root diameter to prevent cracking during installation torque.

CHIMEI Zhenjiang ABS PA-707K is an injection-molding grade of acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene terpolymer produced at Chimei Corporation’s Zhenjiang polymerization and compounding site. The grade is classified under ISO 2580-1:2004 as an ABS moulding material in the general-purpose flow segment. The designation PA-707K denotes a high-gloss, elevated-flow formulation in which the melt mass-flow rate is intentionally raised relative to standard PA-707 while preserving the styrene-acrylonitrile matrix modulus. Representative lot data list a melt mass-flow rate of 36 g/10 min at 220 °C and 10 kg piston load according to ISO 1133-1:2022, a density of 1.04–1.06 g/cm³ by ISO 1183-1:2019, and a tensile yield stress of 42–46 MPa by ISO 527-2.
The supplied pellets are natural or precolored. Actual lot-specific values are governed by the certificate of analysis, not by the typical property table. The polymer is marked >ABS< under ISO 11469:2016 unless a commercial specification requires additional traceability. Regulatory documentation for the Zhenjiang product positions PA-707K within the standard ABS compliance matrix: EU Directive 2011/65/EU for lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, PBB, and PBDE; Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 for SVHC disclosure; and UL 94 flammability classification at 1.6 mm. The grade is not marketed as a food-contact or medical material, and no FDA 21 CFR 177.1020 food-contact precondition should be assumed without a separate manufacturer declaration.
Moisture control in ABS molding is governed less by equilibrium moisture content than by the visual threshold for splay and the thermal stability of the butadiene phase. For PA-707K, pre-drying in a desiccant dryer at 80 °C for 2–4 h is standard when the granulate has been exposed to ambient relative humidity above 60% or when regrind is introduced. The target residual moisture is below 0.05 wt%. Drying temperatures above 90 °C are not recommended because surface oxidation of the butadiene-rich phase can shift the yellow index before the melt reaches the nozzle. Lower drying temperatures near 70 °C require longer residence, and production-scale dryers should maintain a dew point at or below -30 °C to prevent rehumidification. If the dryer cannot maintain that dew point, the drying time should be extended and the outlet moisture verified before molding.
Melt-temperature selection is constrained at both ends. Above 250 °C, thermal degradation of the butadiene domain produces silver streaks, gas inclusions, and a permanent reduction in Charpy impact. Below 210 °C, the elevated-flow matrix shows incomplete homogenization of the rubber phase, leading to visible weld-line fragility and non-uniform gloss on texturized surfaces. In practice, the working melt-temperature band is 220–240 °C. The residence time at melt temperatures above 240 °C should not exceed 5 min; longer residence causes batch-to-batch variance in yellowness and lowers melt strength at the gate-freeze point. On production machines with 20:1 to 24:1 L/D general-purpose screws and compression ratios of 2.0:1 to 2.5:1, back pressure is held between 0.5 MPa and 1.0 MPa to homogenize the melt without excessive shear heating. High-shear dispersion is not required because the rubber phase is already dispersed during polymerization and compounding; therefore, excessively high screw speeds or narrow clearances can degrade the impact modifier without process benefit.
The injection-molding window for PA-707K is defined less by the material’s absolute thermal stability than by the interaction between mold temperature, gate geometry, and hold-pressure decay. A mold temperature of 40–70 °C is typical for high-gloss surfaces. Below 30 °C, the flow front freezes prematurely in thin ribs and the surface gloss becomes inconsistent; above 80 °C, cycle time increases and ejection deformation on flat cosmetic panels becomes measurable. Medium-to-high injection velocities are used, but the velocity profile should be staged to prevent jetting from small gates. For wall sections of 1.0–1.5 mm, gate depth is set at 0.6–0.8 mm and land length at 0.5–1.0 mm. Smaller gate depths produce shear heating that reduces local melt viscosity but may also burn the butadiene phase and create gate blush.
V/P switchover is best controlled by cavity-pressure or screw-position methods at 85–95% of the filling volume. Hold pressure is typically 50–70% of the peak injection pressure, and hold time is determined by the gate-freeze curve. Because PA-707K has a higher melt mass-flow rate than PA-707, the gate remains open slightly longer under identical packing pressure. If hold time is not re-established after a material substitution, the gate seal is lost and the part can exhibit sink marks or dimensional drift of 0.02–0.05 mm in multi-cavity tools. The required clamp force is in the range of 3.0–5.0 kN/cm² of projected area, depending on flow length, wall thickness, and melt temperature. Screw decompression after plasticating is kept below 3 mm to prevent air ingress into the melt cushion.
Typical property data for CHIMEI Zhenjiang ABS PA-707K are listed in Table 1. These values are generated from injection-molded specimens, not from pelletized material, and should not be interpreted as specification limits.

The notched impact values in Table 1 define the principal limitation. The drop from high-impact ABS levels is a deliberate consequence of the lower elastic rubber-phase content required to achieve elevated flow. Components with snap-fit arms, living hinges, or threaded inserts should be evaluated under ISO 179-1/1eA conditions at the lowest service temperature, because PA-707K passes through a ductile-to-brittle transition below 0 °C and the unnotched behavior does not offset the notched decline. For parts exposed to subambient impact, the designer should compare the required notched energy with the 14–18 kJ/m² Charpy band rather than relying on room-temperature data alone.
The substitution of PA-707K for standard PA-707 is most defensible when the existing tool produces short shots, flow marks, or excessive injection pressure in walls below 1.5 mm. The higher melt mass-flow rate reduces the pressure drop across the runner and gate, but the lower impact strength and slightly increased mold shrinkage must be compensated by gate and hold-time changes. If the same tool is run without adjusting the V/P switchover, PA-707K may generate flash in regions that were pressure-limited with PA-707. The comparative positions of PA-707K, PA-707, PA-746, and PA-757 are shown in Table 2.

In the comparative table, PA-707K occupies a middle position between the high-flow PA-746 and the high-impact PA-757. PA-746 provides higher flow for very thin-walled electronic connectors and battery trays, but its lower notched impact makes it less suitable for snap-fit service. PA-757 provides higher impact energy at 23 °C and is preferred for thick bosses and ribbed structural enclosures, but its lower flow can increase injection pressure and weld-line visibility in thin-wall tools. PA-707K therefore is selected where the part must maintain high-gloss surface quality and moderate ductility at a reduced wall thickness, but does not require the extreme impact retention of high-rubber ABS grades.
Documented industrial use of PA-707K is concentrated in injection-molded housings for computer peripherals, small appliances, and electrical control panels, where texture reproduction and field-impact resistance are balanced. The resin is also encountered in cosmetic interior trim components where high-gloss black or precolored grades are required. It is not the first choice for outdoor load-bearing components, continuous hot-water contact, or chemical exposure to aromatic hydrocarbons, ketones, and esters because the butadiene phase and SAN matrix are susceptible to environmental stress cracking. When the service environment includes contact with cutting fluids or aggressive cleaners, the part should be tested under ASTM D543 or a site-specific chemical immersion protocol; published data for PA-707K under these specific configurations is limited.
Regrind use in production-scale molding of PA-707K is generally limited to 20 wt% for cosmetic parts. Higher regrind fractions shift the melt mass-flow rate upward and reduce notched impact because repeated extrusion alters the butadiene domain size distribution. If the regrind fraction exceeds 30 wt%, the yellowness index and gloss uniformity should be checked against the original molded sample, and the dry blend should be re-dried to 0.05 wt% moisture before molding.
