When nominal wall thickness in consumer charger housings falls below 1.2 mm and flow length-to-thickness ratio exceeds 150:1, CHIMEI PolyLac ABS PA-756S is processed at a melt temperature of 230–245 °C and a mould temperature of 60–80 °C. The datasheet-published melt mass-flow index of 40 g/10 min at 220 °C/10 kg under ISO 1133-1:2022 reduces filling-pressure demand relative to lower-flow general-purpose ABS grades, but gate freeze-off remains the limiting failure mode at wall stock below 0.8 mm. Thin-wall charger shells are moulded on servo-hydraulic injection machines with screw L/D ratios of 20:1 to 24:1 and clamp force of 4.0–5.0 kN/cm² projected area. The pre-drying protocol is 80–90 °C for 3–4 h in a desiccant-bed hopper dryer with a dew point of −30 °C or lower, targeting residual moisture below 0.05 % by weight; higher moisture generates splay and reduces molecular weight during plastication. Shot size is maintained between 30 % and 70 % of barrel capacity, and melt residence time at 240 °C is limited to 5 min; interruptions above 10 min require purging with general-purpose polystyrene to prevent yellowing of retained melt.
For a 0.8 mm section, gate land length is set at 0.5–0.8 mm and a valve-gate diameter of 1.0–1.2 mm is used to avoid premature gate freeze. Melt temperature for 0.8 mm walls is held within ±5 °C of 240 °C, because lower settings produce short shots and higher settings raise the risk of splay and gate-stringing. Mould venting channels of 0.02–0.04 mm depth are positioned at end-of-fill locations to prevent dieseling. At thin-wall shear rates, melt viscosity should be confirmed by capillary rheometry under ISO 11443 when balancing multi-cavity charger tools with hot-runner manifolds. After moulding, the charger enclosure is inspected for dimensional stability after 24 h conditioning at 23 °C ± 2 °C and 50 % ± 5 % relative humidity under ISO 291. Mechanical verification references ASTM D638-14 for tensile yield, published at 40 MPa for PA-756S, and ASTM D256-10 for notched Izod impact. The end-use enclosure is a USB charger or power adapter shell evaluated under IEC 62368-1:2018; if a V-0 fire rating is required, PA-756S in its UL 94 HB classification is not suitable without an approved flame-retardant masterbatch or substitution, and fire-enclosure compliance must be re-tested at final wall thickness.
Internal regrind streams from sprues, runners, and start-up reject parts in toy construction-component moulding are typically reintroduced at a maximum loading of 20 wt% when PA-756S is used. The limitation exists because multi-pass heat history reduces notched Izod impact under ASTM D256-10; at 20 wt% of single-pass regrind the impact retention is generally acceptable, but above that threshold the probability of brittle failure in thin snap-fit features increases. Toy parts such as interlocking blocks, hinged panels, and accessory clips are moulded with 0.8–1.5 mm wall sections and require a mould temperature of 60–80 °C to control shrinkage and maintain dimensional interchangeability. PA-756S exhibits published mould shrinkage of 0.4–0.7 % under ASTM D955-08; cavity dimensions are cut with a scaling factor of 1.004 to 1.007 on primary axes. Melt temperature is held at 220–245 °C, and back pressure is maintained at 0.5–1.0 MPa to stabilise melt density before injection. The regrind fraction must not exceed 20 wt% in white or pastel shades because thermal oxidation can shift colour coordinates beyond the agreed CIELAB ΔE tolerance; masterbatch for PA-756S uses SAN carrier resin and is limited to 2 wt% to avoid viscosity drift.
Compliance for the European market requires migration testing under EN 71-3:2019 + A1:2021 for the specified 19 elements, while the United States market references ASTM F963-23 for heavy-metal limits and use/abuse testing. Components below 3.0 mm in any dimension must be assessed against the small-part cylinder requirement of ASTM F963-23; if the part fits through the 31.7 mm small-part cylinder, it must satisfy the corresponding impact, torque, and tension tests. End products include toy construction bricks, interlocking track segments, and playset structural panels.
Home appliance fascia panels moulded from PA-756S are specified where surface gloss, flow length, and dimensional consistency drive part design. For a washing-machine top deck or air-conditioner front panel with a projected area of 0.2–0.5 m², the grade is processed at a melt temperature of 235–250 °C and a mould temperature of 70–80 °C to promote replication of polished cavity surfaces; lower mould temperatures produce dull flow marks at the gate and visible knit lines in ribbed locations. The high-gloss surface is not scratch-resistant; a UV-curable hard coat of 15–25 μm dry film thickness is applied post-moulding when appearance requirements include resistance to wiping abrasion. The material is characterised by a datasheet-published flexural modulus of 2.3 GPa under ASTM D790-17, which permits large flat fascia panels to be demoulded with minimal sink at nominal wall thickness of 2.0–2.5 mm. Rib-to-wall ratio is maintained at 0.5:1 to 0.6:1 to prevent sink marks; bosses for control switches are designed with a wall thickness of 0.7 mm and a draft angle of 1° minimum. Mould filling uses a sequential valve-gate system with 3–5 gates along the long axis to move the weld line into low-visibility edges. In-mould labelling with polycarbonate film requires melt temperature not exceeding 250 °C to avoid film distortion. Electrical safety for appliance housing components is evaluated under IEC 60335-1:2020; because PA-756S has a UL 94 HB classification rather than a V-0 rating, parts located within 3 mm of ignition sources or carrying uninsulated live parts require glow-wire testing under IEC 60335-1:2020 Clause 30.2. If the glow-wire ignition temperature exceeds 650 °C, a flame-retardant ABS grade or PA-756S modified with an approved flame-retardant masterbatch is required. The finished panels are control-panel trim rings, display bezels, and decorative front fascia elements for domestic appliances; all EU-bound parts are covered by RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU Annex II and REACH Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 SVHC Candidate List declarations.

For office equipment internal structural brackets with nominal wall thickness above 2.0 mm, PA-756S is moulded according to the supplier's published pre-drying condition of 80 °C for 3–4 h, melt temperature 220–250 °C, mould temperature 40–60 °C, and clamping force calculated at 3.0–4.0 kN/cm² of projected area; dimensional verification follows ISO 291 conditioning at 23 °C ± 2 °C and 50 % ± 5 % relative humidity for 24 h before release.
Conversion of point-of-sale display bezels from high-impact polystyrene to PA-756S introduces changes in mould shrinkage, melt viscosity, and surface energy. The ABS grade is processed at 230–245 °C melt temperature, which is 10–20 °C above the HIPS setting for the same tool; mould temperature is raised from 30–40 °C to 60–70 °C to prevent visible weld lines and surface ripples. Because PA-756S has a higher melt viscosity than high-flow HIPS, injection speed is reduced by 10–15 % relative to the HIPS parameter set, and holding pressure is increased by 10–20 % to compensate for faster solidification. Mould shrinkage shifts from a typical HIPS range of 0.5–0.8 % to the PA-756S range of 0.4–0.7 %; therefore the same cavity produces slightly larger parts in ABS, and hole-to-edge dimensions are re-verified on first-shot samples. Paint adhesion on PA-756S requires surface energy above 40 mN/m; moulded surfaces are flame-treated or corona-treated before primer, particularly when parts have been stored longer than 48 h after moulding. The finish is a painted or unpainted high-gloss bezel with improved scratch resistance relative to HIPS; however, PA-756S is more notch-sensitive than HIPS at low temperatures, so snap-fit tabs are designed with a minimum root radius of 0.5 mm and are not flexed below 0 °C. Point-of-sale display bezels that contain no electrical components are outside the scope of IEC 62368-1:2018, but RoHS and REACH documentation is maintained for retailer compliance. End products include shelf-edge display frames, kiosk monitor bezels, and signage trim profiles.
Non-food cosmetic outer closures produced from PA-756S are dried to a residual moisture content below 0.05 % before moulding at 220–240 °C. The part type is typically a polypropylene- or polyethylene-lined ABS outer cap for a fragrance or skincare jar; the liner isolates PA-756S from the formula because ABS exhibits environmental stress cracking in contact with low-molecular-weight esters, ketones, and terpenes present in many fragrance oils. High-gloss black or white outer caps require an SPI A1/A2 polished cavity finish and a mould temperature of 70–80 °C; lower mould temperatures produce gate blush at the pinpoint gate. For a cap diameter of 18–30 mm, thread depth is set at 0.6–0.8 mm with a clearance of 0.25 mm to avoid skirt cracking during mechanical capping. Internal threads are moulded with an unscrewing tool or a collapsible core; ejection force is controlled with a draft angle of 1–2° on the outer wall. PA-756S is not used for food-contact applications and no FDA 21 CFR 177.1020 listing is assumed. Compliance for the finished cosmetic article is evaluated under Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 for heavy-metal traces and REACH Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 SVHC Candidate List; if the closure is marketed in California, Proposition 65 screening for styrene and benzene is also documented. End products include lipstick outer caps, fragrance overcaps, and outer shells for skincare jars.

Within the CHIMEI acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene product matrix, CHIMEI (Chi Mei) ABS PA-756S is classified as a high-flow general-purpose injection-molding grade. The product is supplied in pellet form for thin-wall housings, enclosure panels, and structural interior components in which flow length relative to nominal wall thickness exceeds the practical capability of standard-flow ABS at equivalent clamp force. The grade is differentiated from high-impact ABS by a deliberate reduction in the polybutadiene rubber phase that raises melt volume-flow rate and surface gloss while lowering notched Izod impact safety margin. The material carries an UL 94 HB classification at a nominal test thickness and is not formulated as a flame-retardant or high-heat ABS. In the manufacturer’s nomenclature, the S suffix identifies the high-flow variant within the PA-756 series; this designation is a grade-specific rheology choice, not a molder-defined processing parameter.
Pre-drying is the primary boundary condition for defect-free molded surfaces. At ambient relative humidity above 60%, a desiccant dryer with a return-air dew point of -40 °C or lower is recommended; hot-air hopper drying is insufficient because the equilibrium moisture content of the pellets can rise above 0.05 wt% during bulk storage. The manufacturer’s published drying guidance for ABS grades requires 80 °C for 2–4 h in a desiccant dryer with an airflow rate of not less than 1 m³/h per 100 kg/h throughput. Residual moisture above 0.05% is converted to steam during plastication and produces surface splay, longitudinal silver streaks, and localized reductions in weld-line strength. Production-scale verification is typically performed with a Karl Fischer titrator at 160 °C; values above 0.05 wt% indicate that hopper residence time must be extended rather than raising the dryer temperature, because temperatures above 85 °C can agglomerate the pellets and interrupt gravity feed.
The melt-temperature window is bounded by incomplete screw recovery at the lower limit and by thermo-oxidative degradation of the polybutadiene phase at the upper limit. Typical barrel set points are rear 180–210 °C, center 190–230 °C, front 200–240 °C, and nozzle 190–230 °C; the melt temperature measured with a needle pyrometer at the nozzle should remain between 210 °C and 240 °C. Mold temperature is held between 40 °C and 80 °C. Mold temperatures below 40 °C reduce transcription of polished cavity surfaces and increase molded-in stress, while mold temperatures above 80 °C extend cycle time without a corresponding increase in impact for wall sections below 3 mm. At melt temperatures above 260 °C, the butadiene phase undergoes thermo-oxidative crosslinking faster than the SAN matrix, producing yellowing and a measurable drop in notched Izod impact before the bulk resin reaches thermal ignition.
Injection speed should be profiled to fill 90–95% of cavity volume before switchover to hold pressure. First-stage injection pressure from 70 MPa to 140 MPa is typical for multicavity tools; hold pressure is set at 50–70% of peak fill pressure and maintained until gate-seal. Back pressure of 0.5–1.5 MPa maintains melt density and colorant dispersion, but back pressure above 2.0 MPa raises shear heating and shortens the allowable residence time. A screw with L/D of 20:1–25:1 and compression ratio of 2.0:1–2.5:1 is preferred; on a 50 mm diameter reciprocating screw, screw speeds of 60–120 min⁻¹ are commonly used. The shot cushion should be held at 3–6 mm. Total residence time at melt temperature should not exceed 15 min; at 240 °C, residence time exceeding 10 min is associated with a visible shift toward yellow in natural resin.
On high-clamp-force reciprocating-screw machines, the limiting step in fast cycles is frequently screw recovery rather than injection fill. If the screw diameter is undersized, a high-flow grade may shorten fill time but extend plasticating time because the screw must rotate longer to deliver the shot volume. A 50 mm screw on a 1500 kN injection unit typically provides sufficient plasticating capacity for shot weights up to 30–35% of barrel capacity; larger shot weights shift the bottleneck to recovery and allow melt temperature to drop at the nozzle. Gloss consistency is affected by cavity pressure at the end of fill and by mold surface temperature. A cavity pressure transducer located near the last-filled point should record a pressure drop from peak to holding of no more than 20–30%; excessive pressure decay produces gloss heterogeneities and visible knit lines.
For design calculations using ISO methodology, the nominal physical properties of natural-colored pellets are consolidated from the manufacturer’s technical data sheet and third-party material databases. Because lot-to-lot variation and colorant loading alter impact and melt-flow values, these data are typical values under the indicated methods and are not specification limits.

The mold shrinkage range 0.4–0.7% must be verified on the intended tool steel because packing pressure, gate-seal time, and wall thickness shift final dimensions along and transverse to flow. The flexural modulus of 2400 MPa is appropriate for short-term stiffness calculations; creep and fatigue inputs for PA-756S require part-specific testing under the actual temperature and load regime because published data for this specific formulation is limited.
Processors replace standard-flow general-purpose ABS with PA-756S when the same cavity geometry requires a lower hydraulic pressure or shorter fill time. Compared with a standard-flow injection ABS such as CHIMEI PA-757, PA-756S provides a higher melt mass-flow rate under an identical 220 °C/10 kg loading and can fill a 1.2 mm wall section over a longer flow length before short shot. The trade-off is lower notched Izod impact and a slightly lower heat deflection temperature margin under load. The grade is therefore selected for thin-wall appearance parts rather than for thick structural components subjected to high-rate impact.
Relative to high-impact ABS grades such as CHIMEI PA-746H, PA-756S contains a lower butadiene rubber content and consequently exhibits lower notched Izod impact but improved surface gloss and reduced melt viscosity. In multi-cavity tools, this difference appears as a reduction in maximum hydraulic pressure of the order of 10–20% at identical fill time; however, the same dynamic load that is acceptable for a high-impact grade can produce brittle fracture in PA-756S at the same wall thickness. The lower rubber content also alters failure morphology: notched Izod tests of PA-756S typically show a higher fraction of brittle crack propagation and a smaller stress-whitening zone than high-impact ABS. Snap-fit design strain for ABS without impact-modifier enhancement is normally limited to 1.0–1.5% at room temperature; parts made from PA-756S should be prototyped at the lower end of this range unless strain-at-break data are generated under the intended strain rate.
PA-756S is not a flame-retardant ABS. If a UL 94 V-2 or V-0 classification is required, the molder must switch to a flame-retardant grade in the manufacturer’s FR series because PA-756S carries only UL 94 HB at the listed thickness. Chemical resistance is controlled by the continuous SAN phase and is therefore similar to general-purpose ABS: aromatic hydrocarbons, ketones, esters, and chlorinated solvents induce environmental stress cracking, while dilute aqueous acids and alkalis are tolerated at room temperature for short contact times. The lower rubber content does not confer practical outdoor weathering resistance; UV-stabilized variants or coatings are required for continuous exposure.
Compliance records for PA-756S are specific to the lot and the manufacturing site. The grade is routinely supplied under RoHS 2011/65/EU and REACH SVHC requirements for electrical and electronic enclosures; however, certification must be confirmed for each shipment because additive packages can vary with color concentrate. The material is not halogen-free flame retardant and is not marketed as a food-contact grade. For food-contact or medical applications, published data for this specific formulation is limited; additional migration testing under EC 10/2011 or USP Class VI is required before use. When secondary painting, electroplating, or laser marking is planned, the annealing step should be validated at 75 °C for 2 h because the lower heat deflection temperature of PA-756S makes it more sensitive to oven-induced relaxation than a high-heat ABS grade.
Mold-filling analysis for thin rectangular plaques indicates that PA-756S can fill a 1.2 mm wall section over a flow length of 180 mm at an injection pressure approximately 20–30% lower than a standard-flow ABS with a melt volume-flow rate near 25 cm³/10 min. In such tools, the gate should be positioned to maintain unidirectional flow and to place weld lines outside high visual-impact areas; the melt-front temperature at the end of fill is ideally above 210 °C to avoid visible flow marks and loss of gloss. Packing time should be set at 0.5–1.0 s per millimeter of nominal wall thickness and increased until part mass plateaus at constant shot volume. Hot-runner manifolds with low-shear tip geometry are specified to limit stagnation zones; residence time at manifold temperature should not exceed 10 min because shear-induced discoloration occurs before the SAN matrix reaches bulk degradation temperature. Ejector placement must account for the lower hot modulus of PA-756S: deep ribs and bosses should be drafted at 1°–1.5° to prevent white stress marks, and the part should be held until the average ejection temperature is below 75 °C.
