Injection moulding of floor-care enclosures—vacuum-cleaner canister bodies, dust-cup assemblies and motor covers—is among the higher-volume downstream conversion routes for CHIMEI ABS D-1700. The resin is pre-dried in a dehumidifying hopper dryer at 80 °C to 90 °C for 3 h to 4 h to reach residual moisture below 0.05 wt% as measured by ISO 15512:2019. Melt preparation in this segment uses three-zone rotating-screw injection moulding machines with screw L/D ratios between 18:1 and 22:1, barrel settings from 210 °C to 250 °C, and nozzle temperature held 5 °C to 10 °C below the final heating zone to control drool. Mould surface temperatures are maintained at 50 °C to 80 °C to preserve polished cavity finish. For multi-cavity canister tools, clamp-force planning based on 4.0 kN/cm² to 5.0 kN/cm² of projected area prevents flash at high flow rates; hot-runner valve-gate configurations are preferred over open sprue systems because decompression stringing is more severe with high-flow ABS. Formulation addition ratios commonly include pre-dispersed ABS-carrier colour masterbatch at 2 wt% to 4 wt% and source-segregated reclaim at maximum 20 wt%, provided regrind is dried to the same moisture target and lot-controlled to prevent gloss drift. Where dust-contact surfaces require surface resistivity below 1×10¹² Ω/sq, antistatic masterbatch is added at 8 wt% to 15 wt%; this addition increases melt viscosity and may require a nozzle-temperature increase of 5 °C to 10 °C. Compliance obligations in the European Union are governed by IEC 60335-1:2020 clause 30.2.3.1 and IEC 60335-2-1, with RoHS 2011/65/EU Annex II and REACH 1907/2006 SVHC threshold of 0.1 wt% in the article. Terminal products produced under this profile include canister bodies, dust-cup assemblies, brush-motor covers, wheel housings and rear-wheel-bracket covers.
Thin-wall consumer-electronics bezel conversion uses CHIMEI ABS D-1700 for front covers, remote-control bodies, set-top box panels and monitor rear shells with wall stock commonly between 1.5 mm and 2.0 mm. Melt volume-flow rate is assessed under ISO 1133-1:2022 at 220 °C/10 kg, and the lot certificate value is used to set short-shot-based injection velocity profiles rather than fixed machine settings; for sub-gated cold-runner tools, melt-front velocity is derived from cavity-pressure data rather than assumed from screw position. Regrind inclusion is restrained at 15 wt% maximum for high-gloss black and high-chroma parts because higher random regrind particle-size distribution produces visible silver streaks and gloss variation under D65 visual assessment; when a matte texture is specified, the same 15 wt% cap is retained to avoid batch-to-batch appearance shift. Colour masterbatch is added at 2 wt% to 3 wt%, and internal mould release at 0.1 wt% to 0.3 wt% is used only when ejection-force data from the mould tool indicate a need. Compliance in this segment is driven by RoHS 2011/65/EU Annex II and the fire-enclosure requirements of IEC 62368-1; the grade’s UL 94 Yellow Card classification at the minimum wall thickness of the finished enclosure must be confirmed for each colourant lot because thickness- and pigmentation-dependent ratings are not transferable. Terminal products include remote-control front and rear shells, set-top box decorative frames, monitor rear covers and seam-free bezel rings.
Toy and recreational product moulders using CHIMEI ABS D-1700 typically operate within EN 71-3:2019+A1:2021 migration limits for 19 elements; compliance is determined by the complete formulation—resin, colour concentrates, release agents and regrind—not by the base ABS alone. For North American inventories, soluble-element requirements under ASTM F963-23 and ISO 8124-3:2020/Amd 1:2024 may also apply, but grade certification alone is insufficient for end-product testing. Downstream production uses open-loop injection moulding machines with clamping forces between 80 t and 400 t, depending on cavity count and projected area; polished cavity steel at SPI A-2 finish is selected where high-chroma items are produced. Mould temperatures are kept at 40 °C to 60 °C to shorten cycle time, but when weld-line strength in deep ribs matters, the preferred range is 60 °C to 80 °C. Formulation addition ratios for toy-grade production frequently use a 3 wt% to 5 wt% colour masterbatch; regrind is restricted to 15 wt% maximum and segregated by colour family to avoid cross-contamination with phthalate-plasticized materials from other production lines. Terminal products include building-block components, toy vehicle bodies, hobby hulls, board-game racks and protective shells for non-mouthing play items.

Personal-care appliance shells—hair-straightener bodies, shaver chassis, epilator covers and charging cradles—are converted from CHIMEI ABS D-1700 when the surface specification demands weld-line concealment and high gloss without secondary painting. In rapid heat-cycle injection moulding, the mould surface is heated to 100 °C to 120 °C during the filling and packing phases, then cooled to 40 °C to 60 °C before ejection; this process suppresses frozen-in stress at weld lines and permits mirror-finish cavity replication. Melt temperature is held between 220 °C and 250 °C, and holding pressure is profiled by cavity-pressure transfer at 2 s to 4 s after gate-freeze onset. Formulation addition ratios for Class A personal-care surfaces commonly include high-gloss black masterbatch at 2 wt% to 3 wt% and external mould release at 0.1 wt% to 0.3 wt%; regrind is either excluded from visible housings or capped at 10 wt% from the same production lot because rapid heat-cycle moulding magnifies contamination-induced specks. Compliance under IEC 60335-2-23 and RoHS 2011/65/EU Annex II applies, with special attention to accessible-surface temperature limits; D-1700 is not specified for continuous-use surfaces exceeding 75 °C because modulus retention and creep resistance are not equivalent to heat-stabilized ABS grades. Terminal products include hair-straightener side covers, shaver body shells, epilator front covers and charging-cradle bases.
Glow-wire ignition resistance in wiring-device housings is a thickness- and pigmentation-dependent property rather than an inherent grade constant. For CHIMEI ABS D-1700, application in switch plates, wall-box surrounds and low-current socket covers is limited to end-product categories where IEC 60335-1:2020 clause 30.2.3.1 permits the relevant glow-wire temperature class, or where national wiring-device standards do not impose a V-0 polycarbonate/ABS barrier. Published data for this specific configuration is limited; qualification therefore uses the finished article at worst-case wall thickness. The grade is processed as a standard injection-moulded article with melt temperatures between 200 °C and 240 °C, mould temperatures between 40 °C and 60 °C, and holding pressures capped to avoid sink over bosses. Formulation for decorative switch plates typically contains 3 wt% to 5 wt% colour masterbatch and up to 20 wt% clean in-house regrind, provided the regrind carries no flame-retardant or impact-modifier carryover. If glow-wire end-product testing requires a temperature higher than 650 °C for unattended appliances, selection of a flame-retardant ABS or ABS/PC grade is the required path; addition of flame-retardant masterbatch to D-1700 is not recommended because the resulting UL 94 V-0 rating cannot be guaranteed without reformulation. Terminal products include surface switch plates, rotary-dimmer knobs, wall-box frames and low-current socket surrounds.
Aftermarket automotive-interior trim conversion uses CHIMEI ABS D-1700 for audio mounting brackets, switch bezels, gear-lever surrounds and decorative trim rings where the installed part is outside airbag deployment zones and continuous surface temperature remains below 80 °C. Flammability dominates compliance in this segment: FMVSS 302 and ISO 3795 horizontal burn-rate requirements are applied to the finished article, and EU aftermarket parts may also fall under EU 2018/858 and REACH 1907/2006 SVHC threshold of 0.1 wt%. Because the grade is not supplied as an OEM automotive weather-stable compound, exposed upper-deck surfaces are either painted with an automotive two-component primer and topcoat at 15 µm to 30 µm dry-film thickness or produced with a UV-stabilized masterbatch at 2 wt% to 4 wt%. Vacuum-metallized components require a basecoat layer at 5 µm to 10 µm to cover surface defects before aluminum deposition; published data for this specific configuration is limited, and electroplating adhesion on high-flow ABS must be pre-validated with an etch and peel test. Processing uses conventional injection moulding with wall stocks between 1.8 mm and 2.5 mm, melt temperatures from 210 °C to 240 °C, and mould temperatures from 50 °C to 80 °C. Terminal products include aftermarket audio mounting brackets, shift-bezel inserts, dash trim rings and non-airbag side garnish panels.

CHIMEI (Chi Mei) ABS D-1700 is an acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene copolymer supplied by Chi Mei Corporation as a general-purpose injection molding grade positioned in the high-flow region of the manufacturer’s ABS portfolio. The product is specified for thin-wall enclosures, appliance fascia panels, monitor rear covers, and non-structural interior trim where balanced melt flow, surface replication, and moderate impact resistance are required. Pellets are supplied in 25 kg polyethylene-lined sacks with a bulk density of approximately 0.57–0.62 g/cm³ measured by ISO 60:2023 and a packed moisture content below 0.10 wt% determined by ISO 15512:2019. The base resin is classified as non-flame-retardant under UL 94, with typical performance limited to HB at 1.6 mm thickness. Published data for this specific configuration are limited for ultraviolet-stabilised outdoor grades; therefore unmodified D-1700 is not recommended for continuous exterior exposure without additional carbon black or hindered amine light stabiliser masterbatch.
Pre-drying at 80 °C for 2–4 hours to a residual moisture threshold below 0.05 wt% is required when ambient relative humidity exceeds 60%, because absorbed water hydrolyses the acrylonitrile component at barrel temperatures above 220 °C, producing surface splay and up to 7% loss in notched Izod impact. Barrel temperature profiles from rear zone to nozzle are set between 210 °C and 260 °C, with the rear zone near 210 °C to prevent premature melting in the feed throat. Mold temperatures of 40–70 °C are adequate for gloss and dimensional stability; a core/cavity temperature of 60 °C reduces visible knit lines in ribbed housings. Hydraulic back pressure is maintained at 0.5–1.0 MPa, and screw surface speed is limited to 60–100 rpm on a general-purpose 20:1 L/D single-flight screw. Clamp force is estimated at 30–50 MPa cavity pressure multiplied by projected area, allowing a 120-tonne press to fill a projected area of approximately 250–350 cm² at nominal wall thickness under controlled injection velocity.
Representative property data for D-1700 were derived from injection-molded specimens conditioned at 23 °C and 50% RH for 48 h before testing. The following table lists values obtained using internationally recognised methods.

|---|---|---|
| Density | ISO 1183-1:2019 | 1.04 g/cm³ |

| Flexural strength, 2 mm/min | ISO 178:2019 | 66 MPa |
| Notched Izod impact, 23 °C | ISO 180/A:2023 | 24 kJ/m² |
| Notched Izod impact, -30 °C | ISO 180/A:2023 | 8 kJ/m² |
| Heat deflection temperature, 1.8 MPa | ISO 75-2/A:2020 | 85 °C |

Secant tensile modulus at 0.2% strain is approximately 2400 MPa, and Poisson’s ratio is near 0.38. The ductile-to-brittle transition in notched Izod testing occurs between -10 °C and -20 °C under standard conditioning, which restricts cold-impact applications. At -30 °C, the fall in notched Izod values below 10 kJ/m² indicates that snap-fit features subjected to high strain-rate loading require generous corner radii and low residual orientation from melt temperature control. The property set is representative of a low-rubber high-flow ABS and is not intended for components requiring sub-zero impact toughness above 15 kJ/m².
Direct substitution of D-1700 for medium-flow PA-757 in existing hot-runner tooling requires rebalancing of gate freeze-off and pack pressure because the lower viscosity of D-1700 shortens gate seal time. Under identical ISO 1133-1:2022 conditions, D-1700 exhibits approximately 25–35% higher melt volume-flow rate than PA-757, permitting 0.8 mm nominal walls in laptop bezels without short shots. However, weld-line depth in high-flow grades can increase by 10–20% because melt fronts cool less before meeting in multi-gated or boss-rich parts, so gate placement must be revised rather than retained from existing tooling. Compared with high-impact PA-746H, notched Izod impact at 23 °C is approximately 25–35% lower, while tensile yield strength remains within 3 MPa of the general-purpose baseline. The high-gloss surface of D-1700 molded at a 60 °C tool exhibits 88–94 GU at a 60° measurement angle; the same surface drops to 12–20 GU when textured with a SPI B-1 finish. This places D-1700 above PA-757 in flow, below PA-746H in impact, and below heat-resistant PA-777D in thermal stability under load.
Compared with other Chi Mei ABS grades, D-1700 occupies a high-flow, medium-impact, medium-gloss position. The styrene-acrylonitrile phase ratio is shifted toward SAN to raise melt flow, reducing polybutadiene rubber content and lowering notched Izod values relative to PA-746H. The grade does not replace heat-resistant ABS in underhood automotive applications; PA-777D retains heat deflection temperature above 100 °C at 1.8 MPa, whereas D-1700 remains near 85 °C. In electroplating applications requiring etched surface uniformity, a dedicated plating grade such as PA-765 should be selected, because D-1700 is not formulated for controlled butadiene domain size distribution during chromic acid etching. Published multi-axial impact data and weld-line strength data for this specific configuration are limited; tooling trials at defined mold temperatures are required before snap-fit or boss-loading designs are finalised.
On production-scale compounding lines where D-1700 is used as a carrier resin for color masterbatch, melt temperature must not exceed 260 °C for more than 5 minutes because the polybutadiene phase undergoes thermal crosslinking and generates black specks. Barrel residence time in injection molding should be kept below 80% of shot capacity, and hold time at temperature should remain below 30 minutes. Purging with acrylic or SAN-based purging compounds is preferred; purging with polyolefins is not recommended unless the barrel is completely drained, because amorphous-polyolefin incompatibility causes stratified residue and intermittent contamination. The material is not compatible with brominated diphenyl ether flame-retardant packages due to plate-out on mold surfaces and loss of release consistency. Outdoor-use formulations require UV stabiliser masterbatch at 2–4 wt% addition and carbon black at 0.5–1.0 wt% to achieve more than 12 months of gloss retention under ISO 4892-2 xenon arc testing; unmodified D-1700 exhibits surface chalking after 300–500 hours in accelerated weathering, although published data for this specific configuration are limited to regional compounding reports rather than a single manufacturer datasheet.
Compliance status for D-1700 applies to the base resin and does not include post-added flame retardants or colour concentrates. The grade meets RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU and REACH Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 at the time of commercial supply; a supplier certificate of compliance should be requested for each lot because additive packages vary by production campaign. The resin is insoluble in water, alcohols, and dilute acids; it is attacked by ketones, esters, aromatic solvents, and chlorinated hydrocarbons. Stress-cracking resistance under constant strain in isopropyl alcohol is poor; therefore solvent-based cleaning agents must be avoided before assembly. Food-contact compliance is not claimed for D-1700 unless explicitly stated in a lot-specific additive disclosure and supported by FDA 21 CFR 180.22 or equivalent national migration testing.
