As an accredited Braskem UTEC UHMWPE 3040 factory, we enforce strict quality protocols—every batch undergoes rigorous testing to ensure consistent efficacy and safety standards.
| Packing | Braskem UTEC UHMWPE 3040 is packaged in 25 kg moisture-barrier paper bags, 40 bags per pallet (1,000 kg net). |
| Container Loading (20′ FCL) | Braskem UTEC UHMWPE 3040 loaded in a 20′ FCL container, palletized bags, dry ambient conditions, securely stowed for export shipment. |
| Shipping | Braskem UTEC UHMWPE 3040 is shipped as a non-hazardous, moisture-sensitive polymer solid in sealed bags or containers. Keep dry, clean, and protected from UV, contamination, and excessive heat. No special transport classification typically applies; follow the supplier SDS and local regulations. |
| Storage | Store Braskem UTEC UHMWPE 3040 in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight, heat sources, and open flames. Keep material in original, closed packaging on pallets to prevent moisture, dust, and contamination. Avoid prolonged UV exposure and contact with incompatible chemicals or strong oxidizers. Maintain good housekeeping and follow local regulations. |
| Shelf Life | Shelf life is indefinite if stored dry, in original sealed packaging, away from direct sunlight and contaminants at ambient temperature. |
When lithium-ion battery separator manufacturers shift a wet-process line from an HDPE-dominant film to a UHMWPE-containing precursor, UTEC 3040 is introduced at 20–30 wt% of the total polyethylene phase, with the polymer solids suspended in paraffinic process oil at 25–35 wt% of the extrudate. The powder is pre-dried in a desiccant hopper at 80 °C for 2–4 h when ambient relative humidity exceeds 60%, reducing moisture to below 100 ppm before feeding. A co-rotating twin-screw extruder with L/D 48:1 and segmented kneading blocks disperses the UTEC 3040 without measurable reduction in viscosity number, maintaining melt-zone temperatures below 190 °C. The gel sheet is cast through a slot die, quenched on a chill roll, and extracted to residual oil content below 0.5 wt%; sequential machine-direction orientation at 5:1–8:1 and transverse-direction orientation at 4:1–7:1 are held within ±2 °C of the crystalline draw-window to prevent local thinning. Separator qualification includes ASTM D882-18 for thin-film tensile, ASTM E96/E96M-22 for water vapour transmission, and ASTM F316-03 for pore-size characterization; cell-level compliance is demonstrated under UL 1642, IEC 62660-3, and UN 38.3. The terminal product is a microporous polyolefin separator with thickness from 5 µm to 20 µm, average pore diameter between 0.03 µm and 0.10 µm, and Gurley permeability commonly in the 180–600 s/100 mL range for commercial UHMWPE/HDPE membrane grades.
Gel-spinning of UTEC 3040 into high-modulus polyethylene fiber requires the polymer to be dissolved into decalin or a low-volatility paraffinic oil at a dope concentration of 6–10 wt%, with hindered phenolic antioxidant added at 0.1–0.3 wt% of polymer mass to suppress thermo-oxidative chain scission during dissolution. The dope is prepared in a high-shear kneader at 135–160 °C under inert gas, then metered through spinneret holes of 0.5–1.0 mm diameter into a water quench bath held at 10–25 °C. Removal of the solvent is followed by staged hot drawing at 120–150 °C to a cumulative draw ratio of 60:1–120:1; incomplete dissolution or residual solvent above 1 wt% produces visible gel defects and draw breaks, particularly when the draw ratio exceeds 80:1. Tensile verification of the final yarn is performed according to ISO 2062:2009, rope constructions are tested under ISO 10325:2009, and ballistic packages are evaluated under NIJ 0101.06. Terminal products include cut-resistant glove yarns, ballistic prepreg laminates, and high-modulus mooring ropes; this application does not use melt-spinning equipment because the material exhibits no practical melt flow.
Ram extrusion of UTEC 3040 replaces screw-driven melt pumping entirely and is used where wear strips, chain guides, and timing screws must retain dimensional stability after machining. The feed formulation is 100% UTEC 3040 with 0.3–0.8 wt% calcium stearate, 0.05–0.2 wt% hindered phenolic antioxidant, and optionally 2–5 wt% PTFE micropowder where dry-running coefficient of friction must be reduced below 0.10 against steel. A single- or double-ram extruder applies compaction pressure between 20 MPa and 35 MPa, with heated die zones maintained at 190–220 °C and reciprocating piston speed regulated from 0.2 m/h to 1.2 m/h. The profile is cooled through an air-annealing tunnel at a ramp not exceeding 10 K/h to limit core/shell crystallinity mismatch; after machining, shaped components are stress-relieved in an oil bath at 120 °C for 4–8 h. Food-contact conveyor parts are specified under 21 CFR 177.1520(b)(1) and EU Regulation 10/2011 migration limits, while material property verification follows ASTM D4020-18 and ISO 11542-2:2016. Finished stock is machined into bottle-handling star wheels, conveyor chain guides, wear strips, and timing screws for packaging lines.
Compressed-air aeration diffusers and vacuum suction filter plates made from sintered UTEC 3040 powder rely on a bimodal particle-size distribution rather than a melt-formed matrix: 65–80 wt% of the 125–180 µm fraction is mixed with 20–35 wt% of the 45–75 µm fraction and dry-packed into steel mold cavities without solvent or binder. The mold is compacted at 15–25 MPa at ambient temperature, then heated under nitrogen or vacuum to a sintering plateau of 180–210 °C for 15–40 min, followed by controlled cooling at 1–3 K/min to prevent part cracking. Wall thickness is held above 3 mm because thinner sections exhibit pore collapse and reduced permeability after sintering. Bubble-point and pore-size distribution are tested according to ASTM F316-03, compressive properties are measured under ASTM D1621-16, and formulations containing only listed stabilizers comply with 21 CFR 177.1520 and EU Regulation 10/2011 for potable water and food-contact service. The resulting open-cell products include aeration diffusers, suction filter discs, sintered vent plugs, and laboratory filter elements with typical pore diameters of 5–25 µm and porosity between 30% and 45%.
Slurry transfer systems handling magnetite, bauxite, and tailings require a liner material that resists gouging without the brittle failure of ceramic tile or the tear propagation observed in rubber-lined spools. UTEC 3040 is compression-molded into cylindrical liners at 100% polymer or at 97–99 wt% polymer with 1–3 wt% carbon black for UV-stable above-ground service; glass fibre and mineral fillers are excluded because hard inclusions accelerate abrasion of the surrounding UHMWPE matrix. Cylindrical molds are vibrated during filling and compacted at 10–18 MPa, heated to 195–215 °C for 1.5–3 h depending on wall section, and cooled under pressure at 0.5–2 K/min to suppress void formation. Wear resistance is verified against material specifications in ASTM D4020-18 and ISO 15527:2018, with slurry-pot testing performed according to ASTM G75-15 when the specific tailings particle-size distribution is available. UHMWPE liners are not joined by conventional butt fusion; mechanical flanging or embedded metallic fastening plates are required because the material does not flow sufficiently for standard thermoplastic welding. Terminal products include slurry pipe liners, elbows, hopper liners, and transfer chute plates for mining and mineral processing circuits.
