Braskem MDPE RO-015 is a 0.940 g/cm³ medium-density polyethylene intended for biaxial rotational moulding, with a melt flow rate measured to ASTM D1238-20 at 190°C/2.16 kg of approximately 4.0 g/10 min, placing it in the low-shear plateau required for uniform wall formation across potable water cisterns from 500 L to 50,000 L. Potable-water contact formulations use 100 phr Braskem MDPE RO-015 with 0.08–0.15 phr hindered phenolic antioxidant, 0.05–0.10 phr phosphite secondary antioxidant, and 0.15–0.25 phr high-molecular-weight HALS where the finished tank is installed outdoors. The stabilizer package is dry-blended in a high-intensity mixer at 300 rpm for 90 s, followed by pulverization to 35 mesh with not more than 15% retention on 50 mesh; powder stored above 70% relative humidity is purged with 40°C dry air for 2 h before charging to prevent steam pinholes. On multi-arm carousel machines rated for 2,500 kg payload, the mould rotates at a 4:1 minor-to-major ratio while the oven air is held at 280–300°C and peak internal air temperature reaches 200–215°C for 18–24 min at 6 mm nominal wall. Cooling is staged with forced air at 8–10°C/min to 120°C, then water mist at 15–20°C/min to 80°C demould temperature, after which the vented fill ports, baffle plates, and threaded fittings are finish-machined. Finished part types include vertical cylindrical potable water tanks, underground cisterns, gravity-fed distribution tanks, and transport bowser tanks. Compliance is verified against NSF/ANSI/CAN 61 and FDA 21 CFR 177.1520(c); the external mould release is specified as silicone-free because residual silicone can elevate extractable volatile organic compound levels beyond the pass/fail threshold in the NSF/ANSI/CAN 61 extraction protocol.
Agricultural vertical storage tanks for urea-ammonium nitrate solutions, starter fertilizers, and dilute phosphoric acid blends are rotomoulded from Braskem MDPE RO-015 using 100 phr resin, 0.20–0.30 phr hindered phenolic antioxidant, and 2.0–2.5 phr of a 40% carbon black masterbatch to provide UV stabilization equivalent to 5,000 h outdoor exposure under ASTM G154-16 Cycle 1. The carbon black masterbatch is capped at 3.0 phr because higher loadings raise melt viscosity at 280°C and reduce Charpy impact by 15–20% when tested to ISO 179-1:2020, with the impact loss concentrated in the cone-bottom base where wall thickness transitions from 4.5 mm to 6.0 mm. The aluminium A-356 mould is preheated to 230°C before charging with 35 mesh powder, then run on a three-arm carousel at 275–290°C oven air, 20–26 min soak time, peak internal air temperature 205–215°C, and demould at 85°C. Chemical compatibility is qualified by 30-day static immersion in site-specific fertilizer chemistries using ASTM D543-20; published data for Braskem MDPE RO-015 in phosphoric acid blends above 5% acid concentration is limited, so full-scale tank testing is required before specifying the grade for that service. Manufacturing records exclude copper-based pigment systems because copper ions catalyze thermo-oxidative chain scission in polyethylene at processing temperatures. Terminal product types include 1,000–10,000 L cone-bottom storage tanks, nurse tanks, sprayer tanks, fertigation day tanks, and secondary containment basins supplied to ASTM D1998-21 for upright polyethylene tanks.
Because outdoor playground structures experience cyclic impact at sub-zero temperatures and continuous solar load, Braskem MDPE RO-015 is formulated with 0.30–0.50 phr UV-stable HALS, 0.05–0.10 phr acid scavenger, and 2.0–4.0 phr inorganic pigment masterbatch free of lead and cadmium. The moulded wall is held at 6–9 mm for impact-bearing sections such as slide bedways and tunnel arches, and the oven air temperature is limited to 260–280°C because thick sections degrade above 280°C, producing gloss loss and surface microcracking. The mould rotates at 4:1 minor-to-major ratio on multi-arm carousel equipment, with demould at 80°C into cooling fixtures that restrain warpage on long asymmetrical parts. Post-mould flame polishing is prohibited because surface chain scission creates microcracks that fail EN 71-3:2019+A1:2021 after 1,000 h accelerated weathering. Compliance is documented against EN 71-3:2019+A1:2021 for migration of elements, ASTM F1487-21 for public playground equipment performance, and REACH SVHC screening. Terminal product types include rotomoulded slides, tunnels, roof panels, activity panels, and climb-on components where the polyethylene wall replaces metal or coated timber.
Marine buoyancy modules and floating dock elements are rotomoulded as hollow or foam-filled enclosures with wall thickness of 8–10 mm to resist hull strikes, ice pressure, and repeated flexure at waterline interfaces. The formulation is 100 phr Braskem MDPE RO-015, 0.25–0.45 phr UVA/HALS stabilizer, 0.10–0.20 phr antioxidant, and 2.0–5.0 phr closed-cell polyurethane foam injected after the polyethylene skin has cooled below 100°C. The mould is run at 285–295°C oven air, 25–35 min soak, peak internal air temperature 210–220°C, and 4:1 minor-to-major rotation ratio to produce uniform wall thickness around the foam cavity. Foam overfilling above 5.0 phr creates internal pressure that can deform the outer wall during thermal cycling, so injection ports are pressure-relieved during post-mould cooling. Structural verification is performed to ISO 527-2:2012, ISO 179-1:2020, and ASTM G154-16; no harmonized marine product standard exists for polyethylene dock floats, and project specifications may invoke USCG or IMO buoyancy requirements, though published data for Braskem MDPE RO-015 in specific marine exposure is limited. Terminal products include 0.5–2.0 m³ float modules, gangway floats, dock connectors, and buoyancy collars for small craft moorings.
Industrial material handling containers are rotomoulded from 100 phr virgin Braskem MDPE RO-015, 10–30 phr clean in-house regrind generated from trimmed flash, 0.05–0.10 phr antioxidant, and 1.0–2.0 phr colour masterbatch when colour coding is required. The regrind ceiling of 30 phr is maintained because post-consumer regrind cannot be validated under EU 10/2011, and higher regrind fractions reduce environmental stress crack resistance below 200 h in ASTM D1693-21. Double-wall pallet moulds with structural ribs are charged with 35 mesh powder, then processed at 270–290°C oven air, peak internal air temperature 195–210°C, and cycle time 22–30 min; internal air pressure of 0.2–0.3 bar is applied after the first 5 min of rotation to suppress pinholing in rib roots. Forced-air cooling reduces the part to 80°C before demould, after which steel reinforcing frames or fork tubes are inserted where required. Food-contact totes are tested for overall migration to EU 10/2011 at 10 mg/dm² and for repeated-use compliance under FDA 21 CFR 177.1520(c). Terminal product types include 48 × 40 in pallet boxes, 200–1,000 L bulk bins, insulated fish totes, and nestable handling containers for food and pharmaceutical secondary packaging.
Equipment covers, pump housings, and water-treatment enclosure panels are rotomoulded from 100 phr Braskem MDPE RO-015, 0.08–0.12 phr antioxidant, 0.3–0.5 phr UVA/HALS if installed outdoors, and 2.0–3.0 phr colourant. The machined aluminium mould uses internal rib root radii of 1.5 mm minimum, oven air at 260–280°C, wall thickness of 4–6 mm, soak time of 22–30 min, and demould temperature 80°C. Enclosure flame rating is verified to UL 94 HB at 3.0 mm thickness, and gasketed housings are tested to IEC 60529 IP65 when sealed against water and dust ingress. Continuous immersion in chlorine dioxide above 5 mg/L is not recommended because published data for this specific configuration is limited. Terminal product types include pump housings, filter vessel jackets, wastewater equipment covers, electrical cabinet enclosures, and mechanical guards.
